Bristith was very... VERY contently mowing down on what had once been a herdbeast. The resounding crunch of bones breaking and cracking, the wet meaty sounds of tearing and ripping.
The bronze certainly did like to make a mess of his meal. Oh well. Couldn't be helped. V'rak sat far enough away as to not disturb his dragon, the sounds still reaching his ears as he watched, his face pleasantly neutral.
Bristith crooned happily, completely intent on his meal that he was hardly aware of his rider's presence. Of course... he knew V'rak was there, but he delightfully ignored him.
The bronzer sat calmly watching, one hand cupping his chin, propped on a knee. The barest hint of a smile pursed his lips, enjoying the day out of the Weyr. He supposed he should schedule a drill for later in the day, the thought smoothed out his smile. His Wing was nearly flawless... yet... they hadn't been tested against Thread yet... and somehow, he was almost eager for the challenge.

Beynath glided down to the Feeding Grounds after dropping a reluctant Marisol on the ground. The Gold had insisted that it was time for her to feed, just as the Retired Weyrwoman had returned to her Weyr. So much for that nap she had been looking forward to. The Gold watched Bristish tearing into a good beast and asked, Which beasts look best to you today?
She was constantly asking advice on what was the better catch. Beynath was only content if she had the best meat she could have. Otherwise she could be rather snippity about it. If it wasn't to her liking she would kill a different beast. Marisol used to fight with her about the waste it was a lost cause. The dragon was stubborn about her food.
Marisol looked over at the Bronzerider, placing a name with the face. It took her only a moment. "Greetings Wingleader V'rak." She used titles when greeting people but often found them a bore. "Bristith is well I hope?" She looked out at her own gold, watching her in good humor. The dragon could be a show off at times. Even for a 59 turn old dragon she was strong and graceful. She had stopped rising to mate but that did not stop her from flying.

V'rak stood at the first sign of the older Gold and her rider. The smile that was instantly on his face was genuine, warm, friendly. His head dipped kindly at her greeting.
"Bristith is quite...content at the moment, Weyrwoman Marisol." He still referred to the older woman by her former title, as that is certainly what she had been during V'rak's years in training, and as wingrider, and even as Wingleader. However, the fondness in his voice was either held for his dragon or the Weyrwoman. He didn't give any hint as to which. Perhaps it was for both.
"Likewise for Beynath, I hope." he added with a smile. The aging Gold looked well enough, her hide still shiny in its thick luster, muscles still firm under the hide. Yes, she looked well.
The bronze had paused his chewing and tearing momentarily to watch the gold Beynath for a moment, pointed snout raised. The herd to the south is very juicy this season, the bronze answered without a hesitation. There'd be plenty of meat, but Bristith wasn't particularly a fussy eater.

"I'm glad to hear it. We need our Bronzes in tip top shape. If I overheard Weyrwoman Elisha correctly. Our Weyr will be participating in the Weyr games this turn." She was starting a rumor, yes but it would get the riders excited. Marisol was always worried for people in the Weyr games. People and dragons did die in them. She had over fifty turns to get over that but it seemed to her, a lot to waste.
"Oh yes, Beynath is very well. She is enjoying retirement and all its perks. Unfortunately some of us still have to work." She reminded not only herself and the Bronzerider but her comment was intended for her dragon.
My thanks, Bristith. She said warmly, almost motherly in her praise. Then she spoke to her rider in a completely different and quite possibly an arrogant tone. It is not MY fault that Adeloth has yet to lay a Gold. Remember I laid three and for an interval that was more than usually recorded. Just be glad theres no nineteen turn olds bossing you around. Marisol hadn't thought of that... some nineteen turn old Junior Weyrwoman bossing her would end very very poorly.

V'rak's thick brow raised. "The Weyr games, hm?" he asked, his voice and tone indicating that he'd had no idea of such a ploy, for indeed, likewise for him, it seemed a great waste to lose such talented riders and dragons. He rubbed one stubbly cheek thoughtfully with a grunt.
He let the subject go, though it didn't go far from his mind as the subject switched back to the Queen. the brilliant blue eyes flicked back over to the golden form as Bristith conversed. No doubt the bronze was being up most respectful. That was the funny thing about Bristith. He wasn't very respectful... unless it was soneone who REALLY mattered. Beynath was no Adeloth. Beynath was his clutch mother, and older more experienced dragon, and Bristith held no such high respects for Adeloth... yet. He complimented her, but not nearly as much so as the other bronzes.
The bronze seemed smile in that praise, watching the gold go off before he returned to the remainder of his meal. Enjoy your meal, Beynath.

"I'd be prepared if I were you. Benden has won almost every Turn and we want to out do them. It will be good for morale and with thread imminent no doubt it will be a good way to whip everyone into shape." Marisol was always doing bussiness without even thinking about it. It wasn't that she didn't enjoy herself but Weyr politics had always been her priority and here she was trying to get the Wingleader prepared before thinking that Elisha was trying to unsettle everyone. In fact, Mari often felt that the poor girl had a hard task ahead of her. Not that any Goldrider had it easy.
Still she almost wished that she hadn't been Senior for so long, it seemed that most people were having a hard time transitioning their respect from her to the younger Goldrider. Change took getting used to, even for a woman as formiddable as MArisol.
Enjoy yours as well, Brisith. My apologies for interrupting. Beynath really had forgetten her manners. She should have waited till he was finished to disturb him but the old Queen wasn't as sharp as she used to be. After eating she'd probably sun for a while, hopefully with Tlanth.

V'rak's lips curled into a smile. "Ahh of course." he agreed. "Bristith shall give them a sound beating." he chuckled. A little egotistical as it were, however, such nature came by V'rak and his bronze naturally; it never hurt to brag a little.
He slipped off the bounder he had been standing on and offered it to the retired Weyrwoman. "However, it shall be interesting to say the least," he continued speaking even standing, his arms crossing lazily over his chest, a soft breeze fluffing his dark, coppery hair around his face, as he looked from the Weyrwoman to the dragons.
No need, my beautiful Queen. Bristith cooed, even as he munched, the sound of a bone cracking filling the area.

Marisol smiled, "Oh good. I'm sure they'll deserve it. Apparently I've let the Weyr become weak. Allowing women on fighting dragons and not holding Weyr games." Marisol was of course being playful and meant not a word of it. She believed herself to be a good leader, possibly the best the Weyr had had in a long time. No Goldrider was without pride.
Beynath never remembered a kindness done to her. She would have to mention Bristith to Adeloth at some point or other. No doubt he would be good company for the young Gold. It would at least give the Bronze someone to sun with. Not someone as old as she anyway. All the dragons knew that they were welcome to sun with her when Tlanth was not.
She picked out a healthy looking beast from the south and began to eat. She never had reserves about just tearing into the fleshy animals. Beynath was hungry and she was going to eat like she was.

V'rak smiled easily at the way Marisol described her leadership. In good humor, he could only play along, " Ahh of course. Our wings are as weak as our riders, our dragons as mangy as the beast they feed on." the smile never changed from that of genuine amusement.
"A Weyr is only as strong as those whom lead them, Marisol." he chuckled. "And you are anything but weak." he tilted his head thoughtfully, one hand rubbing his stubbled cheek again. A habit often displayed when he was thinking, his fingers tracing the ragged scar down his neck. Well, everyone had their moments of weakness; a shortcoming of some sort.
He glanced back at his bronze as another crack echoed in the silence. Then he shrugged, bright blue eyes turning back to the Weyrwoman. "Like I said, it will be interesting in the very least. A sad waste of fine flesh, both dragon and rider alike, though...."

She laughed. Oh it felt good to let go at times. It was rare that she could let her gaurd down with people but since retiring, she found it all too easy. "Ahh well, Elisha is no different there. I don't think people are giving her enough support..." And at this the Retired Weyrwoman looked genuinely concerned.
Marisol was not perfect, even if she had perfected her leadership after turns of work. When she had started out no one thought she was that great but after time it became the norm. She just wished she could have been young enough to fly thread.
"Yes, it is." She agreed, her eyes blinked rapidly holding back thoughts and tears for someone very dear to her. "Do caution people that the games are not just for fun, its a test. If someone dies then something didn't go as it should..."

V'rak's hand dropped from his face, watching the woman in her concern for the new Weyrwoman. He took a moment to think before speaking, choosing his words carefully. "I think Elisha is inexperienced, however, I do believe she will find her own way of operating." he paused, "she's young yet. No doubt she'll mature quickly, even if it means sleepless nights spent in worry." he smiled, "And Adeloth is a lovely Queen." he remembered to include the pompous gold, having learned long ago how closely one is associated with their dragons.
"If she learns to up her drink tolerance she'll do just fine." he chuckled. It was hard for him to stay serious in such a relaxed atmosphere.
"But I do realize where your concern comes from. There are already rumors flying and breeding as it is. Some pleasant... some not." He nodded simply, the smile back in place. "I also think, it will be a very, very, very interesting day when Adeloth flies...." his expression gave nothing away as to any further thought on that subject. He DID think it would be interesting with a new Queen flying, the Weyr lacking a Weyrleader and all.

Marisol knew his opinions on Elisha and though he had some of them right, others were speculation. Very few people knew what a Weyrwoman was truly thinking. Marisol cast a shadow that was very hard to come out from. "I just hope everyone gives her the time she will need. No one here remembers when I was first a Senior Weyrwoman. It was a hard transition as well."
She remembered her other juniors as well. They had to be transferred while they both seemed more like Marisol than Elisha did. Well she would help the girl as long as she could. Retirement would be nice. As it was, Q'tre (at seventy five as well) was doing many Weyrleader duties. The two retired Weyrleaders were doing almost as much work as they were when they weren't retired. Adeloth needed to fly and soon.
"Thats the way of it, dear Bronzerider. A Leadership flight is always interesting. Having been in a few myself I can honestly say they are more fun and more pleasurable." Her brown eyes were looking out at her Gold, who was now on her second beast. Three is your limit dear. But I'm FAMISHED!Three only! I mean it!Fine.

V'rak's smile widened a bit. He chuckled softly again. "Aye." he agreed. "I'll have to take your word on that as it were." he said with no shame. Bristith had never excelled in a leadership flight, but then, the former Gold had her favored bronze, and that was the way of things. "More fun as the suspense is higher, yes?"
He followed the older woman's gaze to the Gold, not interrupting any could be reverie or discussion. Bristith had since finished his bone-cracking meal and had bounded off for seconds. Three might be the gold's limit, but Bristith ate a lot if given the opportunity!

"For now at least." She grinned. The woman had always had her favorites. Sometimes her favorites in bed were not the ones whom she wanted as Weyrleader. She had been a promiscuous woman though she was as discreet as can be. Her behavior after all, reflected on the entire Weyr. "I do hope Adeloth lays a Gold this time. If the other Bronzes, her favorites or not, were not producing Golds she needs this. Change can be a good thing. The better the flight the better the clutch. Thats what makes these Leadership flights so great...."
She looked as excited about the possibility of a new Gold as a Candidate would. She wanted to retire completely in the next few turns and that meant Elisha would need a trained Junior Weyrwoman to help her.
Beynath scarfed the second beast down before Marisol even got a good glimpse of that she was eating. One would thinkg you were dying of starvation. Don't be jealous that I can eat as much as I want, as quickly as I like and still look this good. Marisol laughed. "Dragon humor."

V'rak nodded. That was Marisol. Always thinking for the better of the Weyr. However, with all the fit bronzes sunning over at the Weyrbowl, it would, no doubt, be an excellent flight. And as the retired Weyrwoman had said, the better the flight, the better the clutch. Gave the Wingleader a moment to think over Marisol's words; more like mulling over them. He'd save that for later, however, pulled from his thoughts.
"Dragon humor"
The blue eyes glanced from gold to woman then smiled. "They do have some, don't they?" he chuckled.
And naturally, Bristith had something to say about that. We do. the dragon agreed, More than most of you riders at any rate.
V'rack smiled. Ahh of course. you overgrown lizards, have more wit than we educated people do.
