Neory's weyrling class had been learning to fly, not just the dragons, but together as pairs, and Neory found it absolutely exhilarating. There was nothing like being in the air together with the beautiful Gold. Even though flights were short and limited, it was an incredible experience and Neory knew that they would get to do it for even longer periods the more they practiced.
While Sheluth was getting bigger and Neory had her own weyr, she still liked to spend time in the common area of the weyrling barracks, and she was absolutely hyper from the ride that afternoon with Sheluth. The Gold Rider could only be described as giddy, and she wanted to share that giddiness with her fellow clutchmates, though she would share it with others as well.
Dressed casually in a pair of comfortable brown pants and a red shirt, she was positively bouncing, waiting for someone else to come to the common area so she could share the joy!

Amneris wandered into the common room. Her face was flushed from the wind and her hair, now short, seemed to be askew. The weyrling looked about the room and spotted Neory. Labeth was sitting on her ledge now and worn out.
"Hello..." Amneris said as she approached the Goldrider. Neory too looked a little excited and like ahse had just been outside. The wind had just begun to pick up when she had Labeth land her in the Weyrbowl.
Neris had her riding leathers on. Chocolate brown was the color. Her shirt underneath her jacket was a deep green. "Theres a storm coming. The weather is getting fairly nasty...autumn is here." Amneris said as if her saying ti made it official.

Neory grinned and pounced on Amneris - though not quite litterally. She moved to her and hugged her, "Isn't it wonderful? The incredible feeling of your dragon flying beneath you, the wind in your hair, the freedom of flight?" She was positively glowing.
And then she realized what Amneris had said, and she wrinkled her nose slightly. "Oh... that means they won't let us fly as much, probably." The normally steady Neory had been quite taken with the experience of flying with Sheluth, and for the moment it was the first and foremost thing in her mind.
"Did you just land? Are you ok? The coming storm didn't cause you any problems did it?"

"Of course it is. There has to be some perks to dragonriding. I mean we are risking life and limb for Pern. Why not have fun while doing it?" The greenrider acted like risking life and limb didn't bother her but deep down, it did. She was not afraid of much. Death by thread was something however that scared her. What scared her more was the possibility of losing her closest friends while fighting to save people she didn't think deserved saving.
"I'm sure the storm will be over after tonight. Its the wind that worries me. I wouldn't go flying just now. Labeth and I were fine. We landed when we felt the wid pickign up. You know Labeth though, she flies on point and with precision. She may not be a large dragon, but she wasn't getting knocked around by a little wind." The green was tired though.
Speedy greens were great for threadfall, but they never lasted the entire fall. Amneris figured thats why there were so many greens. "Sheluth looks great up there. She's looking like one of Beynath's line." Adeloth, Valoith and Talorath were all average sized well colored, Queens. How she had come by this knowledge? Well she did talk to people, a lot of people. The older generations remember the other Golds and had commented that Sheluth looked like her granddam's daughters.

Neory smiled, calmed down, but still very excited. "There are perks that we get that others don't. I know there are some who think that we don't do anything for Pern. I think soon enough, maybe too soon, they're going to learn what exactly we do do." Thread did not entirely scare her, though she knew that it would be a time of pain for the weyr just as much as it would be a time of vindication. She wished that they could have respect without the loss of life, but fighting thread was their purpose.
"Don't worry, we're done for the day. And I think if any Weyrling tried to fly in bad weather would probably find themselves in more trouble than the little rebellion was worth. I don't think the larger dragons and Riders would allow them to get far off the ground." She grinned. She knew how exhilarating flight was, but she also knew how strict M'ren could be, and knew full well that that would result in a punishment probably worse than any seen thus far.
"Thanks, and your Labeth really is incredible. I can't even imagine how good she is going to be when we graduate. I think she's the best flyer of all of us. You should be proud." She blushed at the compliment to her Sheluth. "Thank you. I don't think she'll get larger than her mother, but that's ok. I do believe that she'll make her mother proud, and would have made Beynath proud." Neory teared up just a little bit, but was smiling.

G’eph wandered in, a towel tossed over one shoulder with only pants pulled up and loosely tied as he exited the bathing area. Vanarth had been one of the first to fly that day and as such G’eph had been one of the first dismissed. With the weyrling barracks empty for such a lesson, he had taken the chance to have a bath alone.
Entering the commons area on his way to his assigned weyrling weyr, he stopped at the sight of the two young women. Both were obviously happy with their own performances and the brown rider smiled at them.
“I can’t imagine our dragons would take us in flight if the conditions were dangerous to us unless it was an emergency of great importance. They do, after all, love us beyond anything else. Labeth and Sheluth would never let anything happen to you two.” he said confidently, picking up only the last little bit of the conversation.

The green was not at all concerned about the weather but they were no longer in the sky. Labeth had settled onto her couch and was beggining to doze off. Poor dear was tuckered out. She was about to respond to Neory's statement when G'eph came in, without a shirt on. Amneris was not a weyrbred person but generally things of that nature were not going to get much of a reaction out of her. Still he did look good without a shirt on.
"I'm sure they would defend us with their own lives if the need arose but who would want to live without their dragon?" She smiled. "I saw Vanarth up there, he's probably the best brown in our clutch." Not that Amneris thought any dragon was awful at flying but some of them listened to instruction better. It was clear to her that the other really good greens in her clutch were Barsamith and Nariath, though she obviously felt her Labeth was better than both.
"As for Labeth, thank you Neory. I'm not sure she's the best... but she'd like to think that." Amneris laughed. "Oh and I got a friend of mine to help out mentoring Searchriders. M'ren scheduled a mock Search for us too. I do hope Labeth likes it..." She wasn't going to mention that the green could possess no innate talent for Searching. Some dragons did and some didn't. This would be a good way to tell.

Neory smiled to G'eph, "I'm not particularly concerned about our dragons, but remember that every dragon has its own personality." And the fact of the matter was that weyrlings did indeed die during trainings every turn. "Some dragons may be arrogant, just as some riders may be. That's why we have a Weyrlingmaster to try to keep us in check."
She then grinned more widely to him, "So... how much do you absolutely love flying? Isn't it incredible?"
She then heard Amneris' news and grinned, "Amneris! That's fantastic! I know how much you want to do that!" Neory was confident that her friend and Labeth would both excel at searchriding. She definitely hoped for Amneris' sake that they would, as she really did know just how interested in that area the Green Rider was. "I'm sure Labeth will enjoy it."

G’eph did not comment as Amneris mentioned the possibility of Vanarth being the best. To the brown pair, it was a known fact that none could match the brown, but despite their confidence, they were not a bragging pair.
Listening to Amneris continue her conversation with the gold rider, the tall man thought back to the short lecture on searchriding they had been given. He did remember Amneris had shown interest in it but he could not remember if the other green and blue riders had. Seeing as Vanarth was brown, G’eph had not given any thought to himself being a search rider. Even so, he couldn’t help but feel it wouldn’t be a bad position for a female rider. It at least seemed less dangerous than the thought of fighting thread.
G’eph agreed as Neory told Amneris that her green would enjoy the mock search. “Yes, and I hope you enjoy it just as much. Neory is right, you have been looking forward to it. I wish you luck.”
As Neory turned to him grinning, he couldn’t help but laugh. “I’ll admit I wasn’t too keen at the idea of leaving the ground at first, but once we lifted off… I’m looking forward to doing it again. It’s the same feeling as riding out a gale upon the mast, but you have control over the ride.” Smiling broadly he laughed. “I don’t know who wouldn’t love a thrill like that.”
