Thirty-three years have passed since the colonists first set foot on Rukbat's third planet, the planet Pern. They have survived against the odds, against the unexpected arrival of Thread and the untimely destruction of Landing. The people have lived through starvation, twenty-five years of Thread filled skies, and destructive epidemic. They are now keeping an eye to the future when this Pass of the Red Star will end and the People can expand.
Sean of bronze Carenath, the Fort Weyrleader has looked to the future and has made good on his promise that all the North will be under Dragonwing. (It is also rumored that Windblossom fears a dragon epidemic… don't put all your eggs in one basket so to speak.) He has established 6 new Weyrs of which Benden and High Reaches were the second and third founded.
Now in Year 33, Telgar is seeing her turn, although she was one of the first three new Weyr locations chosen she has had to wait all this time because rock doesn't need to be protected. She will be the sixth and final Weyr built. With people looking toward the farming that the rich Dunto River Valley offers, Telgar is growing into more than just a mining Hold. Igen Weyr is becoming harder pressed to keep up with the chore of defending this region from Thread.
Through the drawing of lots, Telgar has been assigned four wings (a hundred dragons) and three golds to begin the population of the new Weyr. Her original assignment of riders were reassigned to High Reaches 5 years ago and now most of her fighting force are younger dragon pairs in need of more flight practice over less vital lands and also in need of learning how to run a Weyr and Fighting Wing.
Now with four wings stationed back at Telgar and the finishing of the Hatching Grounds she is now a functional Weyr... if not quite finished. High Reaches used the last of the Stone Cutters... so the miners beholden have worked steadily to chip away at the stone that will house and protect their winged defense.
Although rough and considered primitive by some, it has many of the same amenities as the other Weyrs- or soon will have, once the riders and miners finish out her corridors. However, it is not the most prestigious real-estate. It's location in the northern mountains makes it colder than many people find comfortable and so not everyone who drew the assignment is happy to be sent to her heights.
Leadership duties have been left up to a culmination of Wingleaders and Goldriders until a mating flight can decide a more permanent Weyrleadership.
And so the story begins...
Choose a Rider, Miner, or Support Personal and begin building your Weyr.
