Muddy footprints followed Vittor's every step as a sloshed his soggy feet across the Creche. While they were out at the lake, he had gotten into a mud fight with some of the other children. He was now drenched, cold and dirty. He loved it! "Does this mean I have to keep these clothes on the rest of the day?" He asked the nanny, who had followed him in.
"Maybe..." The nanny wasn't really paying much attention to Vittor, which he hated. So he sat on the cleanest place on the floor and rolled around. "Mud Shadow!" He rolled off the smudge he made. It looked like his shadow on the ground. After which he giggled loudly. "Altor look what I did!"
The curly haired blonde called to his brother. The pair were not exactly well behaved, mostly they just weren't easy to deal with together. Vittor was curious in a way that he had to put his hands on everything, whereas his brother asked a million questions at once. Together it was a combination of a pain in the butt and an annoyance.

Altor liked to be involved in the horseplay, though sometimes it meant he got hurt. He never let his size keep him from having fun.
However, Altor was not a huge fan of mud. Oh, if Vittor was leading an adventure in it, he could tolerate it, but he liked to be cleanish. That did not mean that he did not get dirty, just slightly less so than most kids his age.
So this time, he had watched the fight, though the mud would not keep him from snuggling his brother later, even if the Nanny didn't make him change.
When they were back in the room, he had started to find a Nanny to see if they were going to have lessons. He knew the other kids did not enjoy lessons as much as he did, but he loved getting to learn new stuff. Of course, lessons were not always as much fun as just asking questions because he had to give the other kids turns and sometimes they taught things he already knew - which he just hated when there was so much new stuff to learn!
However, he didn't make it to the Nanny before his brother called him. Running over to his not-twin. "OOH! Neat!" He lowered his voice so as not to attract the attention of a Nanny, since he was pretty his brother's mud painting would get Vittor in trouble. "That's good!"
He giggled, "They're going to know it was you though. No one else got as muddy as you did."

Vittor, while obviously knowing what he did was bad, could not resist the urge to do it. "I wonder what a dragon's shadow would look like..." He looked down at his clothes as his brother mentioned it. Vittor didn't usually get dirty but seeing as it was a particularly busy day in the Creche, he would do anything to get noticed.
"Vittor!" One of the nannies came over, looking very stern and unhappy. "Why on Pern would you do a thing like that?" HE looked up at her with innocent blue eyes, "I made a mud shadow! It looks like me..." He said as he took a peak at the muddy patch where he had laid his body.
Raising an eyebrow the older woman took the boy by the hand. "First you are going to get a bath and then you will be in time out. No talking to any of the other kids and no playing with them, least of all your brother Altor. We may even place you in different nap rooms today." Vittor felt sad then. He had only wanted attention, he didn't really want to be in trouble.
Pouting the curly haired boy was pulled towards the bathing areas. He could not fathom what he would do without someone to cuddle with him at nap time. It was going to be the worst day ever!

"It would be a loooot bigger. And have wings." Altor's description of what he thought a dragon's shadow would look like was interrupted when the nanny called for Vittor.
Altor was not the kind of kid to be all "Ooooh" when someone else got in trouble. He loved his bold not-twin, but he tried to keep out of trouble when he could. So he frowned and followed after his brother and the Nanny a short distance.
He could not really protest to the "especially Altor" regarding the time out part. He would not want to get his brother into more trouble, anyway, so he'd make a point to not try to talk to him while he was in time out. Sometimes if you behaved really well in time out, it ended quicker, which was a good thing!
But then the Nanny threatened that the two boys might be put in different nap rooms, and Altor's eyes got big and he ran up the rest of the distance to the Nanny. "We'll be good after Altor gets out of time out. I promise!" He looked at Vittor hoping that the other would agree with him and cooperate. "Please, please, please. If he's good and I don't try to talk to him during time out and we don't get into any more trouble, can we be allowed to nap right?" Being forced to nap apart was the very definition of napping wrong. "Please?"

The nanny ignored Vittor's pouting, bad behavior required punishment. When his brother came over pleading for them to be allowed to nap together the nanny couldn't help but feel a bit odd about the situation. The boys were entirely too close, if you asked her. Of course no one would ask her.
"Altor, your brother must be punished. If he doesn't improve his behavior today he will be sleeping in another room." the nanny, was a strict one. This didn't please Vittor at all. His eyes started to water but he tried not to cry. He didn't want to be in the other room. Thats where the babies slept! He wasn't a baby.
"Vittor. Hurry now, we need to get you bathed..." The woman went on but Vittor didn't hear her. He was too upset about nap time to even think about anything. Vittor loved naptime...not today he wouldn't. They could do what they wanted but he was going to snuggle with his brother.

"Go with her Vittor." Altor hoped he could get through to his brother. The Nanny had said "if." That meant that it was not for sure, but Altor had also understood that it was dependent on whether or not Vittor behaved for the rest of the day - at least until nap time.
"Go get your bath, and then after your time out we can play." He grinned to his brother. "And we'll be good. Very good. Then the Nanny won't make you nap with the babies. Kays?" When one asked as many questions as Altor did, one learned to listen very closely to what adults said, and Altor had caught that nap time wasn't wrong - yet at least.
Altor grinned to the Nanny, "He will be good the rest of the day. You'll see! You said, 'if'." He grinned, but would walk with his brother the rest of the way until they got to the door, knowing he could't go with him, but hoping to reassure his brother, and make sure he knew to be "good."

Vittor really didn't think what he did was that bad. All he did was get a little mud on the floor. Still pouting he went along more willingly with the nanny, who had made the obvious mistake of wording things in a way that would make the boys optimistic and only think of time out as possible punishment.
" Don't worry Altor. I'll be good." Vittor said, slightly annoyed that everyone suddenly thought he was bad. Just because of a little mud that could be washed off so easy. His clothes would be fine, the floor would be fine and he knew he was fine. What did they have to punish him for?
Sighing heavily he walked into the bathing area, taking one last peak at his brother before having the door closed behind him.
---
A little while later, Vittor exited the bathing area, clean and dressed in clean clothes. Though he preferred his own, these would have to do till his went through the laundry. He walked over to his place in Time Out, staring at the wall.

Altor didn't think that Vittor was bad. But he knew that sometimes he did things that the Nannies thought were bad. Just like he sometimes knew, afterwards, that he sometimes irritated the adults with his questions. In his 6 turn old opinion, the adults were silly, but he knew they had to do what they told them to because they were adults.
He played with their other friends while Vittor was getting cleaned and waved to him when he came back in. He hoped that the Nanny would not make him sit in time out too terribly long. If she did, it would be hard to not talk to him, but Altor really did not want to risk nap time!
By the time of Vittor's time out being over, Altor was as restless as Vittor probably was. He really wanted the time out to be over! He kept looking at the Nanny and then at Vittor, though he was trying to play with the other kids.

Time out was very hard for Vittor to be patient about. He didn't like not being social with the other kids and had a hard time being alone in general. He was beginning to get more impatient when the nanny finally let him out of time out. Vittor smiled and ran over to where he saw Altor playing.
"Mommy is gonna be mad about my clothes." He said looking down at the ones he was wearing with obvious dislike. At least a nice color other than this drab tan color would have been nice. He wondered if any of the other muddy kids had gotten in trouble.
The young boy then asked about what they were playing now. "Are they still playing dragonriders?" Who wanted to be one of those? Dragons were cool but who'd want to be a rider when they could be the dragon. They never allowed him to be a dragon so the game had long ago lost interest for him.

Altor giggled and hugged his brother when he ran over to him. "Mommy will forgive you though." It helped that Mommy did not work in the laundry, but rather in the creche. He hugged his brother very tight, knowing that Vittor had been miserable in time out.
"No, they finally stopped that." Sometimes Altor thought that that was all that the other weyrbrats played. He understood the fascination. He wanted to be a Rider when he grew up too. But there were lots of interesting things in the world to pretend to be other than just Riders! "Now they are playing Lords and Ladies." It wasn't always as exciting as playing Dragon Riders - cause Dragons fly and go between and breath fire! - but since all the children were weyr born, the life of Holders - especially Lords and Ladies - was different enough that it seemed exciting.
Altor was excited that his brother was back. Games were sometimes boring, but with Vittor there was always fun. "We can start another game, I bet. Or, I can see if the Nanny will sing one of the teaching songs to us! One that's a story!"

"Awww... I was hoping they were going to play shipfish and firelizards." It was his favorite pretend since both creatures were deemed, imaginary or legend. Either way they weren't supposed to actually exist, as far as Vittor knew. The boy shook his head, he didn't think he'd want to be a Lord Holder then he'd have to have a Lady Holder and girls were known to have all sorts of icky things attached to their presence. Cooties being one of them.
He wasn't going to be suckered into that. No way no how. Altor's other idea was good but he didn't think the nanny would want to do it. Even if she did, she'd probably tell them one they had heard before. On the other hand, Altor really liked stories, and as his brother, Vittor would be okay sitting through one he had heard before.
"Yeah, lets see if the nanny will sing to us. The other kids will want to hear too. Jus' remember don't ask a zillion questions. kay?" He hoped altor would listen to him. The last thing they needed was to annoy a different nanny. They'd be split up for sure.

Anistora came into the crèche holding a clean pile of neatly folded blankets (of the smaller kid version) that she had been asked to bring by the laundry women. Since the illness struck Anistora had found herself stopping by the crèche more and more despite having her own little room in her father’s weyr. She missed having other kids around and it was nice to see other weyrbrats.
Finding a nearby nanny, Anistora offered the blankets with a smile as she eyed the children playing. While many were younger than herself, she found it okay. She didn’t always have to be the youngest after all. Perhaps she could talk them into a game of tag or keep-away ball – that is if the nanny would let them outside for a while. Why, she even had her brother’s old ball back in her room…
The thought made her hesitant to join the children right away as she found herself missing her older brother. It wasn’t fair that he had left her like that.

Vittor wasn't the smartest or the strongest boy in the Creche but he certainly recognized people when he saw them. "Altor look! It's Anistora!" He took off toward the older girl at a pace that would be hard to follow. He dodged out of the way of a kid playing Lord Holder, blah blah. The simple truth was, Anistora was fun to play with.
"Anistora!!" Vittor shouted as he ran up to her and hugged her. "Where have you been?" He looked up at her. She was a nice person and didn't mind when Altor asked a zillion questions or when he had to go make sure that something could or could not be done.
He hoped that Altor had been able to keep up. Vittor knew his "not-twin" was not the fastest runner. That was fine by him though. He didn't want to be the same as Altor. He liked being who he was.

Anistora was properly surprised as the boy hugged her and shouted out her name. She had not seen him sprinting toward her and she tilted dangerously as she fought to keep her balance. It was enough to chase her brother away from her playful mind. Laughing she returned the hug to the blonde haired boy.
“Hi Vittor!” she answered back with a smile. This boy was never without his brother and Anistora knew they would be willing to play as long as the crèche lady would allow it. At the question of where she had been Anistora had to put in a bit of a fight to keep her smile from wavering. “I’ve been sick, but I’m okay now and I wanna have some fun.”
Looking up she spotted the boy’s brother and waved at him. “Hi Altor. Are you up for a game of tag or keep-away ball?”

Elirian sort of toddered in, hearing some excitment. His big brown eyes went from one child to the other. A game might be fun, just as long as they didn't get into trouble. Trouble would dissapoint his mother and he didn't want to do that. Instead of calling him 'Ely' she'd use his full name and tell him that she heard about him acting up. Well he couldn't act up, he needed to be a good example, Mommy said.
He saw Anistora. He liked her, and since she was older, he listened to her. He had heard his foster mother talking to her friend, and he had heard that she lost some of her family, including her mother. It made Elirian sad because he lost a parent too, but also because he loved his mommy so much that he couldn't imagine living with out her presence. Elirian decided he'd be especially nice to Anistora."Hi Anistora." He smiled a little at Vittor and Altor, "Hi guys. What are you playing?"
