Kycira knew that there wasn't a Gold egg on the sands that meant that girls couldn't stand. This was upsetting, she was a little riled but she would deal with it, she wanted to go and slap Elisha because she was so stubborn. Women were impressing more and more, so why stop them from standing when obviously they were meant to ride fighting dragons. She however did not do anything except scream into her pillow and think things over, just because she wouldn't be on the Sands didn't mean she wouldn't impress. People impress from the Stands all the time, she would merely hope to impress from there, she wanted a fighting dragon.
Once she was past not standing she sat up on her bunk and began to think up a way on to the Sands. Possibly leading the other girls on to them once the Hatching started, that was an idea. She would have to earn their trust and she would also have to talk to some of the boys so they could help.

Phwyn was in the Candidate Barracks wandering about. Completely unhappy that he hadn't been allowed to catch a peak at the eggs before the Hatching. He wouldn't have minded sneaking onto the sands except before he was going to do just that a friend of his stopped him. They generally kept you from standing if you snuck onto the sands. He didn't want that to happen to him.
He heard someone on the girls side of the barracks moving around, so he decided to go and see what was going on. The girls were all a little upset. Not that he blamed them but he definately agreed with Elisha. Women had their place and they should learn it.
" Hey, Kycira, I was on my way out to the stables... but uhm...you look upset. Is there anything I could do for you?" Phwyn had a way with women for the most part so he planned on her wanting to talk to him. He did love women as a whole but he also knew that with the decreased population and with riders going Between and getting killed in accidents they needed women to procreate more than ride dragons.

"Just...Goldriding Wherry. Why can't we stand? Just because we can have kids doesn't mean we are useless!" Kycira snapped before thinking things through. She hung her head then thought of a decent reply to Phwyn he was an ok guy unlike the others, she was a little upset and would talk to him soon.
"Sorry I just can't believe that just because women are the ones that carry the babies we can't still fight Thread. I mean why allow us to stand for a Gold Dragon if we can't even stand for the other colors?" She asked looking at him her emotions were running on high, she wanted more than anything to look at the eggs, and maybe touch one in the hopes that it would ensure her impression.

Phwyn knew that all the girls were upset but there were reasons for Elisha to have the rules she had. "You know all the other Weyrs are much more strict on women standing than Telgar ever has been. There are no women on fighting dragons at places like Fort and Igen. Its only found here." Phwyn personally didn't want there to be no women on dragons because heck, when he impressed he still wanted to sleep with women.
"The reasons for this are numerous you know. The first being that women are the best people to take care of things. Thats why women are in charge. The second being they are excellent at raising children. Lets not forget that they are the best cooks I've ever seen. They can do things that men cannot do, such as have children. Women are much to precious to send to their deaths fighting thread. It would be a pity to lose the most beautiful creatures on Pern to Accidents in Weyrling Training and Threadfall. Not to mention the Weyrgames. I'm not saying women shouldn't impress, I'm just saying there are so many reasons for them not to that it seems to me it makes more sense. " Phwyn knew he was probably headed for an argument.
"I don't think you should take this too personally. You'd be good enough for any dragon not just Gold. The Weyrwoman is doing what is best for the Weyr right now, not to mention Pern. We just lost half the dragons in the Weyr and all you can think of is why you can't stand for impression. Your so lucky just to be alive. Unlike many other people you still have a chance to stand in the future. "

Adreazioh was in the candidates barracks. He didn't know where else to go, so he was merely sitting next to his cot. The cot wasn't comfortable- much to high off the ground, so Adreazioh avoided it as much as he possibly could. Which was most of the time.
It also meant that spotting him was an art form. When two of the possible dragonriders started chattering with each other, Adreazioh took the time to figure out what they were saying.
And was deeply confused.
He'd been searched by a female rider, and her Dragon was Green. He'd never even seen a Gold dragon, and didn't understand why a Gold Egg was needed for girls to be given dragons. Deciding he wanted to be closer to the dark and fair possible dragonriders, Adreazioh stood, and moved closer, marveling at the fact that the female was the same height as him.

"So what! We can still ride and it has been proven we are worth more than our parts make us." Kycira snapped back at Phwyn she wanted to slap the Weyrbrat he would never have to worry about standing or not. He would always stand until he impressed a dragon, he was not at the same disadvantage she was he was just a weyrbred boy who was repeating what he had been told.
She looked as though she were ready to kill something, she got up off her bunk and looked Phwyn in the eyes. He was just a thing that didn't think for himself, he would never have to worry about not fulfilling his dreams because of a Golden Riders whims.

Elra walked in completely oblivious that a possibly privet discussion was going on. Her dress wasn’t exactly modest either as she had just come from swimming in the lake and offering her help to wash one of those wonderful dragons bathing there. Her light cotton pants were soaked and clung to her body as her button down shirt hung open with only the back wet from her hair. It was obvious she had taken it off for the swim and left only her under clothes and pants on. The men at the lake had certainly not complained.
Coming up to her bunk she caught sight of the others and gave them a broad smile and waved before opening the small trunk at the end of her cot and looking for dry pants.
“Good Morning, did you guys hear how big the clutch is? I’m so excited!” it was obvious Elra was in a cheerful mood. Noticing a new face a few cots down as it barely peaked over the bed she smiled again and waved at the newcomer. “Hello.”

Phwyn's green eyes darkened. If she wanted to be rude to him fine but he never expected her to agree anyway. "Personally I think you need to calm down. You act like this is only happening to you and that no one else is affected by it. Dragons don't need self conceited, whiny hold bred girls who think they know better than the Weyrwoman. Its her dragon and therefore its her decision. Learn your place." Phwyn said angrily.
He was not aware of the young boy watching. Not until Elra walked in. Phew. At least he knew Elra was a level headed individual. "Yes. Adeloth and Bristith have done well together. I am sorry that there was no Gold but Beynath never had two in a row. Maybe Adeloth's next clutch will be better for you girls..." He glanced back at the youth whom Elra greeted.
He figured it couldn't hurt to be friendly. This boy was a new one whom had most liekly been picked up on Search. He seemed a bit quiet but other than that, Phwyn was sure they'd get along fine. He sure hoped that he knew someone before the HAtching so he didn't feel alone out there. He really did wish the girls were allowed to stand but knew his place in the Weyr well enough not to judge the Weyrwoman's decisions. She was doing the right thing for the Weyr. Even if it upset some of the women here. Telagar was much more liberal with girl candidates than the rest of PErn.
"Welcome to the Weyr. I'm Phwyn..."

They were angry, and loud about it too. He'd known people to get angry at the Caves, but rarely was anyone that loud about it. That took energy, and people didn't have that much in the Caves.
People also weren't this tall in the Caves. Well, not those born there. The newest girl(much fuller and more beautiful than he'd ever seen before a few weeks ago) was tall enough he had to look up. The boy, now that he'd moved close to them was huge. The dark skin didn't phase Adreazioh at all, but the height(he'd hurt his neck if he had to look the boy in the eye) did. Why was everyone so tall? He could understand them being bigger with muscles and the like, but food didn't effect height, did it?
And was the tall man speaking to him? It sure looked like he already knew the girls, and Adreazioh was pretty sure that welcome was what you said to the people you hadn't met before. Tengen had said it to him, hadn't he? And his name was Phwyn. That'd be fun to say.
"Fff-winnn." Adreazioh said happily. "'M Adreazioh." His blue eyes glinted with interest. Phwyn. So fun to say! He was completely distracted from prior thoughts of women, dragons, Golds(?), and how this egg hand out worked.

"Hello, Adreazioh and Elra why are you so happy? We can't stand." Kycira asked of the other girl as she walked over to the other boy glaring at Phwyn. He was a wherry not understanding why women can't stand this clutch and they have a place, this was irritating and also frustrating. She wanted to slap Phwyn for his words, he was just a boy he would never understand.

Elra’s smile quickly faded as she heard Phwyn’s angry words, but it wasn’t so much the words that bothered her – simply the tone in his voice. It was one she hadn’t heard before and she had always thought of Phwyn as a nice and easy-going guy. Even so, she couldn’t really argue for or against Kycira as she let her opinions be known.
Elra herself had mixed feelings about this hatching. Yes it was disappointing that she could not stand, but she was in no place to argue; especially when it could mean the difference in her eligibility to stand in future hatchings. At the same time she was excited simply at the chance to sit in the stands during the hatching. While there were many Weyrs, few holdfolk were invited to such an event.
Her smile began to return as she heard Phwyn’s voice lighten up toward the new comer. At the smaller boy’s words, however, Elra couldn’t help but let her eyebrows raise as she leaned toward Phwyn.
“What did he say?” she asked softly. The sound of Kycira had her turning again, however, and Elra gave her fellow gold candidate a smile despite the heated discussion that had been taking place.
“I’m happy because, while we can not stand we can watch the hatching from the stands. Just think, there are few from the holds that are invited to such an event and even fewer women. Not to mention it will let us see what its like, that could give us a better chance when there is a gold egg compared to girls who will be searched after this hatching.”
Pausing a moment, she added “And I don’t know about you, Kycira, but I turned 21 turns this turn. The next hatching is my last chance, and if there is a gold egg upon those sands next turn, I want to have the best odds available to me to ride that beautiful queen.”
