It had been a turn since she and Enald had gotten married. While there were a few problems, for the most part Leshya was happy.
Except for a couple of things, Leshya was happy.
The young Lady Holder was well aware that rumors were beginning about her, about the fact that she hadn't produced an heir yet. She herself was beginning to wonder if some of the rumors weren't true. A full turn, and definitely plenty of "trying" and nothing.
However, that was not her primary concern as she came into her bower this evening, to the one place where she would be sure to have the privacy she needed.
Dressed in a relatively simple dress of pink silk, her hair down for the evening, and not wearing any jewelry, the Lady of Telgar Hold moved to her desk.
She had had records from the Hold brought to her for her to study. While it had been a turn, she knew that a new Lady needed to be careful about how she insinuated herself within the Hold. However, she had developed more than just a working relationship with the Headwoman. The two had actually become allies, and the older woman was full of advice on how to conceive. Advice that might be worth listening to if one considered how many children she'd given birth to.
So she was now able to go through the records without anyone fearing that she would rain wrath down upon them, change their whole lives, or simply try to displace the headwoman.
What she found in the records disturbed her greatly. Apparently, her husband was following the lead of his father, and not tithing to Telgar Weyr properly. They were sending about three-quarters of the amount of grain and beer that they should have been. It seemed the materials were not their highest quality, and almost none of the proceeds from the selling of other goods were going to the Weyrs.
Leshya loved her husband, but she would always have the heart of a Benden. And this, this was most unacceptable. With a sigh she pushed the records to the side and stood up, pacing.
She bit her lip lightly as she tried to think about the right way to lead her husband into righting this wrong.
