Early one morning Adeloth started humming, she was joined by other dragons in the Weyr, and soon all knew that the eggs were going to hatch. Nearby lords and ladies were fetched, people assembled into the stands, and the candidates were awoken. Of course the girls would not be led onto the stands, but rather told to sit in the stands, but it would be a good day for the boys. They didn't quite get sixty candidates for the eggs, though there was a fair choice.
Elisha was anticipating the turn out for this hatching, two large clutches for Telgar now, right when they needed them most. The sickness had horrendously short handed them, even to go as far as crippling them, and she needed all of these dragons Impressed and later matured. This might have been an impossible wish, but was something to hold on to. This marked the start of something new for Telgar Weyr.

Phwyn heard the humming of dragons and knew what it meant immediately. Without a second thought the young man changed into his white robes. He was determined not to be left on the sands this time. There was little time to lose, so he ran to the HAtching Sands. He wanted to be one of the first one's there.
This could very well be the beginning of the rest of his life. It was exciting! Phwyn wanted nothing more than to be chosen by a dragon. His brother would be able to see him more and he wouldn't have to be the one who didn't impress anymore. He was sick of his parents talking to him about his options. He didn't want options! He wanted a dragon!
When he arrived on the Sands, he looked at the Gold Adeloth first. The few times he had seen her he decided no dragon was as beautiful or mesmerizing than a Queen. Not when she was sitting among her eggs, clearly proud of herself. He then surveyed the eggs for the first time. The clutch was as large as he had hoped it would be. He knew he had a fair chance of impressing with the limited number of Candidates.

Adreazioh didn't know why'd he'd been told to report to these burning hot sands, or why'd he'd been asked to put on this ridiculous white robe. He wasn't sure why he was placed with a large number of other boys, or placed in a half a circle around very large circular rocks, and there was a large shiny dragon(gold?) who was near all of them. It was the first dragon of that sort he'd seen(female?), and he was fascinated.
But he wasn't sure what was going to happen. If this was the way they gave out Dragons, where were they? Were they in the rocks? They sorta looked like eggs, but there were many more boys than rocks, so they obviously weren't passing them out.
His feet were hurting terribly too- the shoes the Holders at Telgar had given him were fine for him normally. In fact, most of the time they were too much, but now they were as though he wasn't wearing any.
What was going on?

Everyone was pretty much present, many talked about the pairing of Adeloth and Bristith. Some speculated that it was the coming of thread, others said it must be because Adeloth had taken advantage of her gene pool, still others, the romantics, claimed it was because Adeloth and Bristith were so perfectly matched. The murmuring would die down once the first resounding crack had drowned all other sounds out. The egg cracked to reveal a large brown that was so dark, that from far away, he looked nearly black. Of course, close up he was distinguished brown. Those who had bet what would hatch first were furiously arguing when the second egg hatched. He was followed by the cracking of one of the largest eggs. All eyes looked upon it. It could not be a disguised as a gold, though it shelled a bright bronze dragon. He was pretty large, not even comparable to the brown though. Neither moved to Impress right away. They had a decision to make. The third to hatch was a smoky blue colored dragonet who found his Mine in a young lad of just 14 turns. Three greens hatched, and all Impressed well. Another brown hatched and Impressed the Headwoman’s steady nephew Itrian, or now, I’tan. “He is called Panorth!”
A bright blue dragonet emerged next and stopped in front of Adreazioh, and at the last moment Impressed to the 13 turn old boy called Zanit. Now, he was Z’nit, and he too called out his blue’s name, “Tremath!” Another green hatches, and Impresses to an older, slight boy. Two blues seem to then hatch simultaneously, with one a dark midnight blue, and the other a pale cyan. But before they could Impress, the dark brown dragonet had chosen. He approached a very small boy, who couldn’t have been much over the age requirement, though the child didn’t shrink from the large brown, but stood firm. Would the brown Impress?

Phwyn was patient, well more patient than usual. The eggs were beginning to crack and first to hatch was deep brown dragonet. He seemed to be taking his time as a Bronze shortly after the Brown, broke free of his shell. Phwyn had been trhough all this before. He wouldn't let the dissapointments of the past interefere with the now. He was worthy of a dragon he just hadn't met his yet.
He watched a blue impress and before long the eggs seemed to be hatching simultaneously. Phwyn couldn't keep up but noted a brown and Bronze were still unimpressed. That was either hopeful or bad. If those dragons failed to impress, they would Between. He didn't think he wanted to see that. A dragon preferring death to a life partnered with him? That was almost inconcievable in his mind.
He noted the brown had moved close to a young boy, though from this distance he couldn't see who it was. Not that it mattered. It wasn't HIM after all. Some of these boys were five turns younger than he was. For being seventeen, he sure didn't feel like he was the oldest person there either. Phwyn stopped himself from thinking more on the other people. He needed to focus on what was happening on the Sands.

Adreazioh nearly shrieked when the loud crack rent the air, and the piteous creeling of small dragons filled the air. It was so loud! So painful. He wanted to give them whatever they needed.
It wasn't orderly, not like he'd expected. And the Dragonriders weren't deciding anything- the Dragons were. If they were really dragons. They were much smaller than the ones he'd seen, and wet and awkward. If he'd seen baby animals, it would have made sense, but this was his first real experience with them.
And when dragon picked a person to go to, their was less sadness in the air, less sometimes he couldn't define. And they cried out odd sounding names every time a dragon picked a person. He'd never met someone with a name ending with a -th. He wondered why they said a name like that.

The brown gazed into his Mine’s eyes and declared, L’zule, you and I shall be together forever, do you promise? I am hungry too. And the small boy led his big ol’ brown off the sands, which left a bronze, and two blues. Two more greens hatched, and the first of the two bonded to Prewen, making him the Pr’wen, rider of green Genasith. The paler blue Impressed an older boy, and the midnight blue dragonet seemed to be regarding Nanor, and it wasn’t long before they were Bonded as N’nor and Zaborenth. Another brown hatched then, a small brown not much larger than the biggest blue thus far. He Impressed dutifully and joyously they left the sands. A green, a blue, and another green hatched and scattered, trying to find Theirs. The only bronze that had hatched so far finally decided who His was. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/47967505@N00/272605424/ the bronze color)
Ph’yn, your Ganymeth has come at last. I need meat. Mine get me food? Finally the boy would have the dragon he had always dreamed of. The large bronze, would prove to be an envy of plenty of other boys. Meanwhile another brown hatched, followed by three little greens. Soon all of dragons left on the sands were Impressed except for one green and one brown. Then, the other large egg hatched to reveal another bronze, and he Impressed quickly, much to many of the boys’ disappointment, but to the great satisfaction of the Impressed one. The green Impressed a tall lanky boy, and the brown lazily walked over to Adreazioh.
A’drazo, your Austranth hungers! Where are you hiding meat? The brown’s eyes whirled with contentment just before changing to hunger. Then bursting from their shells came a blue, a green, two more blues, and three greens. Two of the greens got into a tumble and hissing started. Apparently they both wanted the same boy, and before long, one green betweened never to be seen again. It filled the room with cold disappointment, though the others Impressed alright. There was one more blue dragonet to hatch, and then there was one more egg and a handful of boys left around it.
The egg was smallish, and it didn’t really rock the whole time. Finally, after what seemed like forever, and as some boys walked off thinking it was a dude, it hatched, revealing a pale sky blue dragonet. He was small, probably would fit in well with the greens, and he creeled out, looking for His. He couldn’t have left, could he? But no, the blue was attatched to a boy of 18 turns, a boy called Lonru, but now it was fitting to call him L’ru of blue Sorith.

The only bronze that had hatched so far finally decided who His was. Little did Phwyn know that that someone was him. Moments passed like seconds as the dragons hatched and impressed around him. When out of the blue, a strong voice entered his mind. He must not have noticed one of the dragonets. Then he realized the Bronze that everyone had been admiring was talking to him.
Ph’yn, your Ganymeth has come at last. I need meat. Mine get me food? Ph'yn was in shock. He had never thought, a Bronze? Seriously? His brother wouldn't be allowed to hold rank over him at least. That was a plus. Of course. We will get you food straight away, Ganymeth. "His name is Ganymeth!" Ph'yn shouted loudly over the din. There were so many people cheering he doubted anyone could here it. Still it was a wonderful feeling.
Ganymeth wasn't just any Bronze dragon either. He was the larger of his clutch and the most picky about who he wanted for a rider. He was destined for greatness. If Ph'yn had anything to do wtih it, the dragon would achieve it. Oh he couldn't wait to introduce Ganymeth to P'len and Nargoth.
He walked the dragonet over to where the meat was being handed out. There wasn't a second to lose, jusdging by the ache in his own stomach. The Bronze butted him in the arm. He was HUNGRY! "Wait just a fire breathing second..." Ph'yn saw that there were people there to help but being Weyrbred had its advantages. He already knew what to do. He began to feed the dragonet who was eternally grateful for it.

N'zule felt pride fill his chest as L'zule impressed to a Brown. What would his son's mother think? They were the parents of a Brownrider. A smile filled his face, and tears wet his face. Delith shared in his delight- they both were proud of their baby who'd impressed a turn before they'd thought he would, and too a sturdy brown. A brown. He had a dragonriding son.
N'zule cheered loudly. He was so proud! ~~~~~~~
P'len was watching from the sands, eyes carefully on his brother, and relaying any information his own bronze wanted to hear. And when Phwyn- no Ph'yn yelled out his dragon's name(he didn't quite catch it, but Nargoth did- Ganymeth), P'len smiled deeply. They had the same color dragon- that was a plus. He needed them to remain equals on all fields. ~~~~~~~~~~
Adreazioh watched with ever widening eyes as more dragons chose who they wanted. Chaos, his mind told him seriously, mindless chaos. How did they handle it. His feet continued to hurt, and the small boy was seriously considering leaving. No dragon had chose him yet, and he was hurting, and nothing was going as he'd thought it would.
But that was all before the most amazing feeling surrounded him, bliss, more happiness than he'd ever known. He was someone's and someone was his, and they'd never be apart, and neither would hunger alone.
In the end, it was hunger that brought Adreazioh back from that place of endless bliss. Just as his Austranth hungered, the boy could feel the knots of hunger biting his own stomach. Eyes widened, Adreazioh looked around, wondering where the meat was hidden.
Deciding to follow the other boys with dragons, Adreazioh headed in that direction, and winced suddenly as his Austranth keened, and he, himself felt like falling over. He wasn't sure what had caused that pain, worse than the pain of hunger, and didn't want to know.
"C'mo, Aust'th, w'll git yas'm 'eet."
Soon enough, that was true. They were handed a bowl of meat, and not realizing that his brown might have as much trouble knowing when to stop as he did, Adreazioh fed his dragon large handfuls, stole pieces of raw meat when his dragon was swallowing and ate them, then handed Austranth more food when the little dragon was done.
Thank you A'drazo. The little stomach told his rider after he finished his first bowl of meat, having miraculously managed to not choke.
"Adreazioh." The small Weyrling told his dragon absentmindedly, not knowing that the dragon's name was the name he would have from now on.

V'nes watched, standing by the table holding the buckets of meat for the newly impressed dragons. Rarely did the man have favorites, but he hoped desperately that Phwyn would finally impress this time. The young man and his brother had become friends, and he had been concerned about Phwyn, especially after P'len had impressed in the previous clutch. He greeted each now former student as they came and pressed the buckets of meat into their hands with specific instructions as to how to safely feed their new partners. However, when he looked up to see the Bronze impress Ph'yn now, he grinned. It is ok. He was a good boy and will be a good rider. You can be happy for him.I know."You know the drill, Ph'yn, but let me go through it anyway. Make sure he chews and finishes what he has before giving him more. This one time it is ok to let him stuff himself, but make sure he chews. And congratulations." And then Ad'razo came with his new Brown, and the same instructions were repeated, though V'nes took more care to make sure that the former holdless boy with the odd speech understood what was being told to him. He would be careful not to take too much time, but did keep an eye on him to be certain. *** This time, Ry sat in the stands. She had not even offered to volunteer to help with the newly impressed, and tried not to rub at her arm - which did not bother her, but there was some psychological remembered pain - as she watched the Hatching. When she saw the little green between, a lump caught in her throat. That was hard to see. *** Daevon woke up excited hearing the humming. He had recovered from his collapse after the death of Beynath and ran to the Sands. He stood back, helping with handing out the meat, but only when the others hands were full. Rather he mostly kept an eye on the little dragonets. Not interrupting the bonding, by introducing himself, but making himself familiar with the pairings. He did feel the little green's betweening and stumbled momentarily, but there was too much going on to focus on that at that moment.
