Rory walked his neices home fromthe creche every evening, so that their mother had some alone time before the kids got there. They were fully capable of walking home alone but Rory liked spending time with them and the foster boys too. Both of whom seemed to look up to Rory in a good way.
When he got to Allior's rooms she mentioned a broken hinge on the door which Rory was only too happy to mend for her. She gave him her thanks and he was on his way back towards his own room. He didn't have much other than what he made for himself and the things he could afford were not so grande as those of a rider.
He was thinking back on the Gather and not really paying much attention to where he was going. He knew these routes well enough that he didn't need to pay full attention. When he got to his room, he unlocked the door slowly and sighed. He wished at times that he was his sister, to have all the men she wished and when the men were gone, there was the children.
Her love was tangible because she had something to show for it. He had nothing but an empty room and now little Rorie had been gone for many months but he could not let go of the feeling that he had lost his chance to have that fatherly connection with anyone. Slowly the drudge walked into his room and closed the door behind him.

The room however, was not quite empty- at least not this night.
A stone faced N'zule was sitting on a chair near the middle of the room, tapping his fingers on his lap. From simple looks, it was apparent that this N'zule was going to be a pain to deal with. His clothes were more messy than they ever were, and the green top didn't match the green pants. His eyes, usually a cheerful green, were stormy.
Nothing that boded well for anyone he set his sites on. The added fact that it wasn't near time for Delith to rise again meant even more. N'zule could be a brat when PFSing, but when he was angry, and himself, oh then, he was much, much worse.
Nisha, who was also in the room, had an extreme emotion on her face. Her dark brown eyes were bloodshot, her face red, and her face showed every inclination to drop back into tears. Hands cradled themselves against her stomach, though they started to wring occasionally, before she restrained them.
Her clothing- a dress- was an odd brown color, though her Weyrling self wearing a full dress was rather odd by itself.
"Hullo Rory." She said, speaking tremulously.

Rory saw the green eyes first and new instantly that something was very very wrong. Next to N'zule wasNisha who looked scared and upset. He wondered what could be so bad that N'zule would have dragged...oh shards! N'zule had found out about that day. What Rory wouldn't do to take that back. He cared deeply for N'zule like he had never cared for another man but if Nisha were to tell him something like this, N'zule may never forgive him.
"Hi Nisha, N'zule." Rory swallowed hard, gray eyes neither resting on Nisha or N'zule. He was a bit scared that N'zule might in fact kill him. He looked murderous anyway. "What can I do for you?" He wasn't entirely sure why they were confronting him in his room but he could be certain it wasn't good. Nothing good came of N'zule's angry side.
If anything he was more worried that N'zule might make Nisha feel worse. It was increasingly apparent that the girl was all nerves. She did look changed. Not necessarily unkept more ill or maybe that was this mood that N'zule had inflicted upon her.
On the bright side he had two greenriders in his room, on the downside he had slept with both of them and they were related. Looks like its going to be a bad conversation if we are even going to call it that. Rory thought to himself before preparing himself for the word slashing he was about to get.

"Well, we have some news-" Nisha face whitened when N'zule began speaking.
"You impregnated my niece?" N'zule thundered, cutting off Nisha. "You got Nisha pregnant and then went and acted like you were my friend? But more importantly, you got my candidate niece pregnant!
Breathing heavily, N'zule stopped talking, though that might have had something to do with Delith telling him to stop, and the desperate looks Nisha was giving him. Fists clenched, and eyes narrowed, he paused, visibly brought himself under control- for then at least.
"Explain yourself." N'zule grated out slowly. He hoped it wasn't true, he hoped that Nisha was wrong somehow.

News? Good news was simply told to someone, bad news required discussion... this wasn't good. Impregnated? The words tumbled into his brain slowly. He couldn't have. It was just the one time and he had truly regretted it afterward not because Nisha wasn't a good person to be with but because it had been wrong.
Rory turned white as snow. His eyes couldn't meet N'zule's. Explain what? "Well, I couldn't have known she'd get pregnant." Probably not the best thing he could ahve said there. Hmm. "What I mean to say is, while Nisha is a beautiful young woman, you and I both know my tendancies." Not that being attracted to men had stopped him. " She was out of sorts walking toward my room when I saw her. In order to help her from whatever was going on I brough her to my room and from there something happened that only Nisha can explain to you."
She would have to tell her uncle about the dragonlust, not him. Rory felt stranded. Even as his ex was pissed off, Rory couldn't help but feel some sort of elation at having a child. He'd always wanted to be a father. "Nisha, why didn't you say something sooner?" He looked concerned for the Weyrling.

N'zule was shocked silent, for at least a while, and Nisha used the silence to speak quickly.
"I would have said something, but I just found out. I hadn't realized- I though I was just stressed, and I would have never realized- it is your child." She suddenly added, and paused. "I'm wondering how we're going to do this- I'm not going to be able to be a mother. We could foster the child out to your sister, or- I don't know. I'm so, so lost."
Nisha sat down on the bed quietly, looking worn out.
N'zule had restored himself to a certain amount of composure. He didn't say anything, but he didn't look pleased. However, there was nothing he could do about it now, except watch the proceedings.

Rory took the opportunity to stake his own claim on the unborn child.He sat down next to Nisha and rubbed her back gently with his hand in reassurance. "Nisha, you needn't worry about that. I'll take care of the baby. Drudges can care for children and I can apply for another room then for the babe. You can visit as much or as little as you like. I couldn't foster it." He was starting to sound happy, almost excited then regained his composure only to look at Nisha with a smile in his eyes.
"Its been one of my deepest wishes, to be a father. Since Rorie died, I've been realizing more and more how much she had been the baby that I wanted for my own. " He took a second to glance at N'zule. He wasn't sure that his composure would last long. Not if he knew the green rider as well as he thought he did. He hoped N'zule could see that the relationship he had with Nisha wasn't one of lust. It was more that he cared about her as family does. They were family now, whether she wanted to be or not. The baby made that true.
"N'zule, I'm sorry. I never meant to betray your trust or hers. In fact I had thought this was far behind us." Apparently it wasn't but Rory saw it as a blessing in disquise rather than the ruining of their lives. He wished at times that N'zule could be more rational but it was the fact that he was not rational that Rory liked most about him. His crazy, stubborn and fiery attitude made him very much the opposite of Rory.

Nisha relaxed into Rory's comforting back rub, feeling better that he'd accepted what she'd said, and even seemed pleased on having a child. And it wasn't as if Nisha wasn't happy to have a child- she just hadn't wanted one during Weyrling training. And perhaps not this father- at least not as an accident. Had Rory and N'zule wanted a child to raise as their own, Nisha would have been fine with this idea. This just wasn't as planned and prepared as she would have wanted.
"I'd rather you raised it than Henegret. She's a terrible mother, and with my luck, the Headwoman would assign her my child. And I'd rather keep the child in the family." And while N'zule and Rory might be fighting, or broken up, that didn't stop Rory from being part of her family.
N'zule looked angry, and about to speak, but Nisha didn't want to deal with that. She knew she'd done right to explain to him first, but she didn't have to put up with much more. And for the child's sake, she was going to shut N'zule up.
"And before parents, and uncles and aunts are mentioned, Rory was my first choice. His sister my second. It's my baby, so if he accepts, it's settled."
After her three minute leader phase, Nisha paused, now unsure of what to do.

"Then it is settled. Are you in need of any help?" Rory wanted to make sure she didn't overexert herself or strain her relationship with her dragon. Though he knew nothing he did could really help with the dragonrider part of her but he wanted to put it out there that if she needed anything he would help her. Rory was used to serving people and it didn't bother him. He felt a sense of pride in his work and took even the most menial and boring jobs without complaint.
Unable to keep himself from looking at N'zule's reaction, Rory saw that the man was holding back angry words. He wished N'zule could understand and still want to be Rory's friend. At the same time he knew that N'zule would not let his neice be so used without some form of retaliation. As if anything could be worse than breaking someone's heart. Rory figured there was little more N'zule could do to him.
"Nisha, have you thought about names?" That could be interesting. Of course he always had more trouble thinking of boys names than girls. Having so many neices prepared one more for a girl, though Rory had nephews and then there were Lazule and Nashin. Both of whom seemed to be at home with Allior and her daughters. Strange that he had met with four members of the same family in the last hour and he wasn't at a family reunion or anything of that nature.

"They- well, Marisol said she'd talk to the WLMs about lightening my load." Nisha said quietly, happy that at least Rory hadn't blown up at her. Unlike some of the others who'd found out, including her parents, and a couple of the family members who'd never spoken to her until she'd Impressed.
"So, I shouldn't need any help," A fair smile appeared on Nisha's face, "But if I do, you're the first one I'll speak too."
It was the first time in, perhaps, a week that Nisha had been completely unburdened.
"I actually hadn't thought about names. I haven't had much of a chance. Do you have any ideas?"

Rory let out a slight chuckle, trust Marisol to know everything about everyone. "Marisol is quite the all knowing person around here. I do hope they come to some arrangements for you while the baby has to stay with you. You can't very well live in the Barracks with a baby. Though I'm sure that the Weyrlingmaster will think of that when he is told. You needn't worry about it." He realized he was getting ahead of himself and possibly loading her with questions she needn't answer.
"I'm better with girls names. I've had more practice with them." He grinned and then thought for a moment. "I like Nishory for a girls name and maybe Roisha. For a boy...ummm let me think." He paused again,"Nishor?" He was looking at Nisha to see her reactions to the names. She probably had better ideas. It was ultimately her decision.
He was suprised at N'zule's silence. Rory couldn't recall a time when the greenrider had kept his mouth shut this long. Either he had resolved that this needed to happen or he was waiting to erupt at Rory.

"I like them. I want my child to have a longer name than mine." Yes, Nisha had wished she had a long name that could sound formal, and could be shortened into a friendname. And her child would have that. Male or female. Her child would have a name fit for a Dragonrider- and while she didn't mind if her child didn't Impress, she'd make sure they were more than just a drudge.
"Oh!" With that little exclamation, Nisha jumped up. "I have to go- I have a meeting with Lan'ae!" She gave them a little wave, and looking much recovered, and less red-faced, and more confident, Nisha bounced out of the room, leaving an angry N'zule and Rory in the same room. They needed to work it out anyway, Nisha justified to herself, and closed the door tightly behind her.
~~~~~~~~~~
N'zule had kept quiet for Nisha's sake. He wanted to beat what had happened out of Rory, but his niece wouldn't be pleased, and she was his favorite girl. N'zule supposed that he couldn't hate Rory, and he felt Delith confirm that. His green lady was giving him no uncertain thoughts that he would calm down, and act like a rational man. And so he tried- he didn't want both of the women in his life angry at him.
"I'm not going to hurt you because she would be angry." Which she was unclear, even to N'zule. "I am going to say though, if you ever give Nisha cause to be upset with you, I'll have my satisfaction."
The threat speech now fully given, N'zule forced himself to stop growling. And to try and be rational, just like Del had asked.
"I will assist you in making sure she stays healthy. Weyrling training is hard enough as it is." And if it sounded like he was blaming Rory for Nisha's condition, well, he was. But he was beating the other man(like he sorely deserved), and everyone could be satisfied he was trying. Because he was. Really.
Rory smiled. There would be plenty of time for names. He didn't catch on to what sh ewas saying immediately when she got up to leave but after she had left, in a bit of a rush, he knew what it meant. HE was to be alone with N'zule. Rory wasn't just scared at what the rider could possibly do, it was that now he knew N'zule could never forgive him and as such, never love him.
That was quite possibly the worst feeling in the world. "Have I ever mistreated a woman?" Rory countered. There was nothing about Rory that would suggest hurting anyone ever. He cared too much to let anything happen to Nisha, thats what had gotten him into this predicament. Wasn't it?
"N'zule, you know, we weren't together then... I was an emotional wreck and at the time we were both vulnerable. Her flight lust was sort of overwhelming and I couldn't leave her out in the halls to be preyed upon by some man who might have hurt her. I couldn't do that to her. You need to understand I was trying to protect her from worse."
Rory loved them, they were his other family. He couldn't bear this. The hope that there might still be something on N'zule's end bordering on love for Rory, was no longer there. He had to hand it to N'zule, not beating Rory to a pulp or even trying to say really hurtful things. If they had been together, he would have been better off. He certainly would not have slept with Nisha.
"I can do math." N'zule responded coldly to Rory's attempt at an explanation. He didn't care. That neither of them had thought to inform him, and had sprung this tryst on him in the form of his niece was the greatest betrayal either could have done upon him.
"And there is always a first time for anything. And I don't mean physically. Emotionally, mentally, or do damage to her reputation, and there will be retribution." Yes, N'zule was bringing out the big words.
The Greenrider was angry after all. But he was going to work with this man in a manner that a Triveni wingmember would envy.
"Nisha is going to need new clothing. I know you're a drudge, and don't have a lot of free time, however you know more women who would have clothing suited for Nisha. If you need my help for some reason, don't be afraid to call me. We can work together, for Nisha's sake."
He was hurt that N'zule thought he could cause any harm to the young woman. Hadn't he been a good friend? Other than this one thing. Why she had to get pregnant he didn't know. This all came at a bad time. Just when N'zule was starting to be nice to him again, he finds out Rory impregnated his neice.
There was moment that he thought N'zule was angry enough to storm out but it seemed the greenrider wanted some sort of assurance from Rory. This was not the way he had envisioned things going.
"I would never do anything to harm her. Emotionally, mentally or physically. Had I thought for one second she was going to get pregnant I would never have done what I did. She doesn't need this, not now when she has so much on her plate already." Rory was worried. He didn't want her to over stretch herself.
"Allior probably has things that will fit, she is only slightly taller than Nisha. I'm sure she has some very comfortable shoes, if Nisha's feet swell like hers did." As strange as it may seem, Rory knew a lot about pregnant women. He had helped his sister through four pregnancies not to mention some other women of the Lower Caverns who had asked for his help. Not that he was great with children but he was patient and he was there when needed. Things that Nisha too understood, even if N'zule did not.
