Neory had heard that Marisol had ordered that no one come visit her. She did not work in the creche, but she had heard the rumors about what was going on with the children. However, the way Neory figured it, she'd already been exposed to a sick Marisol, so staying away from her would not do much good. So she came down to the weyrwoman's weyr.
She would come up to the open door. "Weyrwoman Marisol? Please, its Neory. I know you don't want to get anyone sick, but I've already been exposed to you sick. If I'm going to get sick I will. I figure you need a drudge to help with things, someone who is already exposed. I know you don't want people around so you don't make them sick, but," she shrugged with a smile, "I've already been exposed. Please, can I come in? At the very least, I imagine you'd at least like some company."

Marisol was not lying in bed as one might expect nor was she relaxing in her bath. She was standing on her Queen's ledge looking over the Bowl. Hearing a woman's voice, she came in off the ledge, pulling her deep blue shaw over her shoulders. "Come in...come in. No use standing out in the hallway."
She wouldn't need company long, if the rumors were correct and the Headwoman had evacuated the Creche then she might be taking care of a little person or two. "Neory, I do hope I have not made you ill. Would you like some klah?"
Beynath lay on her couch, sleeping deeply. "I'm afraid, you've caught Bey at her nap time. She does get tired more easily nowadays. I imagine she'd be happier if Tlanth were about more often." Once Adeloth flew, that would no longer be an issue. For now, with Q'tre being Weyrleader (havign been the last to fly the most senior Queen), Tlanth was busy while Beynath and Marisol were a slight bit lonesome without them. The plan to be retired together by now was thrown out to the breeze.

She shrugged some as she entered at Marisol's invitation, "I've not noticed anything yet. But I'm strong. I'll be fine." She winked at the retired weyrwoman. "And so are you. And yes, please, some klah would be nice."
She smiled seeing the sleeping dragon. "Its ok. I'll be back to visit quite a bit, if you don't mind. Actually, if you don't mind, I've thought about asking Headwoman to be assigned to you. At least until this illness is passed."
She grinned to her. "And don't give me that you're a strong independent woman who doesn't need help. I'm well aware you're not. But there are chores that you should not have to do for yourself, and other issues that I'm sure demand your attention more than running errands or straightening up around here. Especially in this current crisis. And I'm fairly decent at conversation."
And even if the retired weyrwoman did get a couple littles to watch after, having an extra set of hands could not be a bad thing.

"That is kind of you Neory. I can indeed look out for myself. If you would like to stay with me that is fine. Though I don't think it will be long before I have another visitor. R'net is always coming up here for a talk and no doubt he has caught wind of my potential illness. Being my grandson, no doubt he won't be able to stay away long." Plus Reiko will need to stay with someone and he would rather stay with Mari than his mother.
Beynath's tail twitched lightly. Marisol took the opportunity to pour some klah into two mugs. She gently handed the young woman a mug. "Well since I expect we will be here for some time, do tell me more about yourself. Your Weyrbred no doubt. Have any family on dragons that I might know?" Marisol liked to know who was related to whom. Though it made little difference to dragons who was who's child.

She smiled warmly to the woman. She had no desire to claim that the woman was anything short of able to care for herself, but her rank - and now her sickness - meant that she definitely deserved someone to help her out.
She smiled a bit at the mention of R'net, though if Mari noticed it, she would see that it was not a wistful smile or even a dreamy one. It was just a smile as she thought of a friend, and even more his devotion to his grandmother. Neory thought of R'net as a friend, though they had certain privileges with each other. She had no interest in "claiming" him in anyway.
"Thank you" as she accepted the mug of Klah. "My family? Well, my father is P'rry, rider of Brown Daleth. And my brother is also a brown rider. K'dyn of Ortath. My mother is a kitchen drudge, and my sister works in the lower caverns. My younger brother is a candidate. I'm hoping that I can stand at the next hatching. I enjoy working in the kitchen and lower caverns, but... I guess I'm still young enough and dreamy enough to hope to be a Rider myself."

Marisol coughed into her kerchief, away from Neory. It was mostly habit to do so. "Ahhh so thats where you get it. Koldyn met me on the Hatching Sands one evening. No doubt he is quite at home in Zahra Wing. I was so glad when he impressed a sturdy looking brown. How are they? I really haven't had the chance to check in on K'dyn. " She smiled, doubting that Neory had ever been told that her brother and the Weyrwoman were friends. He had been one of those boys she insisted on getting to stand.
"I'm the reason your brother became obsessed with dragons. I put the idea into that young moldable brain of his." She grinned wickedly. "No doubt you are now dragon obsessed as well. If there is a Gold on the Sands Elisha will have women stand though if not, I doubt even I can persuade her. Besides you seem like a strong, willful person no doubt you want to try for a Gold." She didn't say more than that. The girl's personality would definately come out if she were going to hang about.

She chuckled at the weyrwoman's description of her brother's dragon-craze before he impressed. "K'dyn is the model of all that Zahra is." She kept her concerns about his cynicism to herself though. The last thing she needed was her brother whining to her about her having "tattled" on him to the weyrwoman, retired or otherwise.
She frowned a bit though, "Well, K'dyn is fine. But Ortath..." She sighed, "He seems to have some kind of... hide problem. I helped K'dyn wash and oil him the other day. And hated it... the oiling I mean. His hide is so very dry. I know K'dyn is concerned about it. Though he was going to have the healers look at him."
She shook her head some and grinned to Mari, "I didn't know you had had such a strong influence on him, but I suppose I'm not surprised. And I don't think I'm the only dragon-crazed member of the family. Parrin is too."
She would not comment on the Gold thing, just because there was really nothing short of the obvious, "Of course I want a Gold" to say. So she simply smiled at her and let it go at that.

The Weyrwoman quirked an eyebrow at the mention of a hide problem. "So then, he isn't flying is he?" Marisol hoped not. If thread fell in three turns as expected, then he would be at the perfect age and training to fight thread. Ortath might even make a good Wingthird in time. Marisol was one of those who looked after her favorites and now, she felt like she had let them down a bit.
"Perhaps I'll have a talk with the Dragonhealers myself. At another time, to go over the possibilities. I can also see if dragons at any of the other Weyrs have had this problem and we my dear, have complete access to the records room. Surely helping Ortath would be a good way to spend our time."
Funny that she now had two favorites who were siblings, she should like to meet their mother now. In any case she wondered at the young woman's not saying about Golds. It must be that she did want a Gold but didn't want to say so. "Don't you worry. Leadership flights are always better clutches. There is a good liklihood that she will clutch Gold this time." Mari said that almost every clutch, trying to reassure Elisha that there would be a Junior Weyrwoman to help them.

She smiled, "I'm sure there will be." If Mari knew K'dyn then she would probably know that her brother had every intention of smuggling her in if there were not, but Neory did secretly agree with her brother, and now Mari, that she was more suited to a Gold. "I'm not overly concerned about it." Overly was a relative word, so that was true!
She positively grinned at Mari's suggestion that they go through the records to try to help Ortath. "If you're feeling up to it, that'd be wonderful. Ortath really is a dear, and there's just something fundamentally wrong with a worried K'dyn. It really does not suit him at all."
"Though I fear the healers will have their hands full for the next little bit. How is it possible for an illness to spread to so quickly?" She frowned a bit, though she was thankful that none of her family currently had littles.

Bursting into the retired Weyrwoman's weyr, without knocking, was a good way to get in trouble. R'net, at the end of his rope, didn't even bother thinking about it, racing threw the door(the fact that he had to pause and open it was a distraction he disliked.
"Mari, I have Reiko- and, Adoleth is flying, Torenth needs me, please take him?"
It was a wretched sentence, the structure stretched and twisted, but most of R'net's thinking was no longer with this part of his soul. Most of it was residing in the eager Bronze, who just wanted to Fly.
Too far gone for societal niceties, he didn't bother recognizing Neory's presence, looking around for a place to lay his son down and go. Deciding on a plush chair, the bronzer laid his son down, blinked, and left.
He would, later, of course, probably apologize- for now, he had places he needed to be.
I will be there in a minute, Torenth. And knowing how fast R'net could run when he truly put his mind to it, a minute later, he was probably standing in the Flight Room, waiting for the Weyrwoman's Dragon to Rise.

Neory didn't feel slighted in the least. R'net had done a good job of describing the situation and why he was in a hurry, even if the sentence was rather mangled. She was not about to expect that as he ran to a Gold fight and tended to his sick son that he should take a moment and say hi to her. That would have been - beyond silly.
She would smile a bit over to Mari, "Looks like the influx of littles starts now."
She would move to get cool clothes, but would not get in Mari's way of getting to the child. Reiko was Mari's great-grandson, and she would not take away Marisol's proprietary rights to tend to him.
Privately she thought it would have been nice if Adeloth could have waited a day. She doubted R'net was the only bronzer with a child who would be torn between making sure they were taken care of and getting to the flight room. She would very much not express that outloud though!

R'net looked so flustered that MArisol didn't even bother asking what was going on. He explained good enough for her. "Sorry about his inconsiderate behavior. He is usually quite the gentleman." At least thats how he behaved around Mari.
"Now now. Reiko isn't a normal little. He visits often." She looked over at the flushed child. He had her red hair. It was funny he looked more like her than her own children. Well, Reisol had looked like her but the girl had been such a huge dissapointment. Afraid of dragons. The very thought...
She walked over to her great grandson then knelt down to him. Marisol felt his forehead and shook her head. "Fever."

She nodded. Based on the limpness of the boy when R'net brought him in, she had expected it might be a fever. She brought over a bowl of cool - but not cold water and some clothes to Marisol. "Hopefully these will help break his fever."
She then would gently lay a hand on the older woman's shoulder. "I'm not worried about it. His explanation gave plenty reason to not be offended." She would smile at her.
"And I can tell he's not a normal little one. We'll get him through this."
She then slipped away and poured a cup of cold water for the boy. She tried to remember the basic first aid kind of things. If they wound up getting more, she'd find a healer to give them some basic instructions.
She brought the cup over and set it near Mari, "I'm sure he must be thirsty."

"Thank you dear." She said, taking the cold water and dipping a clean cloth in it. Marisol gently laid the cold wet cloth on the boy's head. "He's such a healthy boy. I'm sure he will be fine."
Marisol had a slight amount of pride in her bloodline. Besides she could give him the best care, one on one attention. He'd thrive here. She wished at her age she could foster him but it would seem that she was too old to take him on full time.
"He and I both. Mind brining me some as well?" Marisol moved Reiko to a more upright position. Then she brought the cup to his lips, forcing him to drink. So many young ones ill made her worried.

"Of course." She smiled a bit. As horrible as it was to see the boy sick, it was touching to see how the Retired Weyrwoman cared for him. "Did you want water or something a little more?"
She moved over to get Marisol something to drink.
"If you wind up getting more brought to you, I'm going to go for a Healer. Make sure that we're not missing something." She might would do it anyway if Reiko didn't show signs of recovering in a reasonable amount time. However, she would not question Marisol's ability to care for her grandson - and she knew the healers had to have their hands full.
