Kanoni entered the Weyrhall chuckling. Yet another prank, gone down without fail. And now, time for lunch. Soon after, of course, they would have their wing practice, but until then, it was Relax Time. And Kanoni was very experienced at relaxing.
She sat at the Zahra wing table. So far, the Hall was deserted. It was early for lunch, but she didn't want to be late for practice. Far be it from her to be the one responsible for the "Zahra is lazy" rumor. Raising a hand, she flagged a drudge over. "I would like to have a roast beast meatroll and some cider to go along with it. Please," she added, remembering her manners. She was well-trained in them, but her stomach got so excited sometimes that she just forgot. The drudge smiled and nodded.
Kanoni sat back and smiled. Perhaps someone would join her soon.

The more the brownrider thought about drills, the hungrier he got. He wasn't looking forward to them. Lately, well since Adeloth's flight, E'riol had been less upbeat. No pranks, no jokes... nothing. It was unlike the Bronzerider and was unfortunately having an effect on how he conducted drills.
K'dyn would rather stay in bed than go to drills. Speaking of bed...the rider looked over his shoulder. Yes, Ortath was still snoozing. He had better get moving to the Weyrhall. Either that or miss out on lunch. That of course was not an option to his grumbling stomach. No doubt Ortath would be hungry today as well.
He expected a lot of people from Zahra would be eating before drills but it seemed the Weyrhall was all but deserted. After taking his time choosing what he wanted to eat, he took his tray to the Zahra Wing Tables where he saw Kanoni. Well he ought to eat with someone. "Hi there. Mind if I join you?"

Kanoni was dragged out of her musings by the sight of a familiar face. "Not at all. Sit, please." She grinned. In his hand was a tray, carrying some delicious food. "I surely wish that drudge would come back with my own edibles. I would like to get a bite to eat before what is sure to be a grueling practice." Making a face, she sighed. "I wish someone would pull him out of this funk he's been in." And she was sure they would both know to whom she referred.
The drudge came back with her meatrolls and cider, and had even put some ripe fruit on the side. "Can't be lettin' ya get the scurvy, milady," he told her, winking.
Kanoni giggled. "No, never." The drudge went away, and she attacked the purple fruit with voracity. "I'm a bit hungry," she said, after swallowing the yummy juices and flesh. The cider, however, she sipped in a more lady-like fashion. It was delicious and very much quenched her thirst. "So, what's wrong, K'dyn? You can't fool me; you came into the Weyrhall with a funny look on your face."

He smiled, genuinely glad that he wasn't going to be eating alone. K'dyn set his tray down then sat across from Kanoni. "No doubt he thinks he should be Weyrleader but personally I don't think V'rak's that bad. It's not like we have to deal with D'rian anymore." The asshole.
"I'm more than a little hungry." His stomach rumbled in agreement. "No doubt Ortath will need to feed today after drills." He grabbed his red fruit and began to peel the skin off. Sometimes he just didn't feel like eating the skin. "Besides not looking forward to drills and that our Wingleader has turned into someone as honest as a Triveni."
He looked down at his food, slightly irritated by recent events. "Ortath and I aren't agreeing on the matter of flights." That was as much as he felt like revealing but no doubt Kanoni would want to know specifics. These kinds of things seemed to really interest girls.

He seemed genuinely irritated by both E'riol's recent lack of fun and by the problem with Ortath, though she did notice that he didn't seem to want to put a name or detail to the issue of the latter. "I dunno," she said thoughtfully, tactfully avoiding the Ortath Issue, "I think E'riol might've been in over his head as Weyrleader." She grinned. "He has a hard enough time dealing with his own wing, Faranth bless him." The only thing was, she was only half-kidding. "You're right in saying that he's turning more serious. I noticed it too, and drills are nowhere near as fun as they used to be." Her expressive face turned thoughtful. "I wonder if there's something else bothering him. Surely it can't all be just the Weyrleadership flight, although I would suppose that that's a large part of it." She shrugged. "I don't even know why someone would want to lead the weyr. A wing, maybe, but the whole weyr?" Laughing, "I guess that's why I'm a greenrider."
Kanoni turned serious. "It seems that you don't want to talk about your problem with Ortath, and I can respect that. But if you do need to talk, I've always an open ear for a friend." She smiled. Her compassionate nature almost always got her in trouble, but sometimes, it really came through for her.

He could only agree that E'riol wasn't himself. The brownrider knew little of why someone would care about leading the Weyr. "Perhaps it wasn't just about that. Perhaps it was losing. Lots of people hate to lose. Or I suppose it could be that he truly wants to be with Elisha." K'dyn couldn't believe he just said that and quickly covered having to go into more depth by drinking some of his juice.
"Do you think he's going to have us carry around firestone or something Weyrling like?" He drew the line at being treated like a fifteen turn old. At least he hoped E'riol went easy on the physical training.
