"Looks like the dragons will ahve some good Candidates to choose from this time." He smiled thinking that N'zule was in a very good mood. When the food came he took a moment to look at it. He wouldn't be able to eat all of it, with his nerves the way they were at the moment. He wondered at how T'sar could be so quiet. No doubt the man had guessed at the past relationship of Rory and N'zule.
There wasn't much to say really. Rory ate his food, listening to background noises. He didn't need to talk anyway. At least he didn't think so. When T'sar started to speak he was being very nice, as he usually was, "It must be a great honor to have so many in the family able to impress." He didn't want to be rude to Rory.

"A least they have good heads on their shoulders." N'zule said easily, smiling at T'sar, and realizing exactly how good looking the other man was. "I do have to say, each of them is about as good of choice as I was, but as we all know, Dragons don't always go for what we see as the perfect choice."
N'zule paused, looked as though he was about to say something, then changed his mind. He was simply too hungry to continue anything resembling a converstation. As usually, he ate his greens first, then continued onto his meat, and finally sipped his wine, glancing around the Zahra table with interest.
He'd never sat there before, as he, like most of the Pyralis Wing, felt that all other tables were inferior. It was quieter than Pyralis' table was. No arguments were breaking out, no yelling or thrown wine. It was pleasent, even if it did feel a little, well, boring.

T'sar nodded his agreement. He had finished eating and looked around momentarily. "It has been a pleasure talking with you N'zule." He smiled and then addressed Rory, " I've got to go get in some practice. See you later." The statement was in a way a warning toward N'zule though he said it without malice. Rory had never felt so akward before but he nodded to T'sar as the man stood and left.
He personally didn't know what to say after that. He had never been in this sort of position before. Rory knew he shouldn't say anything but he couldn't help it. "He's a bit obsessed with time. Likes to be everywhere early."
After saying it he ate more of his food but left a considerable amount on his tray. He had lost his appetite. Finishing his juice, he stared at N'zule's wine glass for a long while. How he missed wine...

N'zule nodded pleasently as the Bluerider headed off for practice, and continued sipping his wine slowly, savoring the taste. It really was a good vintage, and very smell was heady, and delicious.
"Good trait." N'zule replied. "I actually have to go too. I need to look Delith over, and make sure she didn't pull anything." It was the standard thing he did after a flight, and it helped him. After being Del in his mind, it always was nice to be near her after.
As he stood, placing his half finished glass down, he turned to Rory, and gave a tentative smile. "I was also wondering- um, Bitra's having a Gather sometime soon, and I was wondering if you'd like to go?"
It would have been easier to just offer him a ride, and see what happened from there, but N'zule wondered exactly where they were standing at this point, and felt this invite would show the most.

"Oh right." As if Rory could forget tradition so easily, yet somehow he had. "I hope Delith is in good condition. Would you mind saying hello to her for me?" He didn't like to make riders messengers for their dragons. It was usually seen as rude however for some reason he and Delith had bonded over the past turn. He couldn't very well not send her greetings.
He was watching N'zule intently as he began to ask a rather alarming question. Shocked and confused, he didn't answer right away. Rory wasn't sure what this meant. Did N'zule want him back? He doubted it. After how he behaved, he very seriously doubted it. At least they were on speaking terms again.
With that in mind he knew he couldn't deny the offer. Not only was it the first time he was asked to a Gather, but it was a very sincere question. "You mean, go with you... as what? friends?" Rory had to ask. He would always love N'zule but N'zule's nature was much more changing than his own.

"She'll like that." Delith always did like it when she had admirers- and she was a rather good looking Green. And for some reason, she really did like Rory, remembering him even now, when they hadn't seen each other for a good while.
Rory's next words shocked him a little. "Well, I did think- I mean, we are friends, aren't we? I just though that we'd, well," N'zule sighed. "I'm not trying to assume more than I should- and it's not as though I have any claim on you. I just thought that we could see if we could be friends, and a Gather's as good a place as any to find out. But if you don't want to go, then I'm not going to force you."
Looking a little defeated, N'zule tucked his chair in, and turned to walk away. It had been no worse than he'd expected, but he still wished he didn't feel as hurt as he did.

He listened to N'zule. Rory was at the very least a decent listener. He could hear in the rider's voice the way he felt. He had not meant to cause him any pain.Force Rory into anything? He had never even thought that. Just because he was completely besotted with the man didn't mean he couldn't think for himself. After his thoughts stopped he noted he may have let all of his words come out wrong. Mistakes, such mistakes, and now he had to say something. As N'zule walked away Rory realized he had not spoken fast enough.
"N'zule. Wait." Rory wanted nothing more than to tell him that he couldn't be friends with him because his feelings were well past friendship. Still he knew what N'zule wanted now and at least he was on the same level. "I didn't mean it like that. I was a little shocked. You know, I've never actually been invited to a Gather by a friend."
He had walked over to the greenrider by then and hugged him. His voice was low as he spoke into the other man's ear. "And you aren't just a friend you know. You are my best friend."

N'zule was still a little unhappy, and even as Rory hugged him the Greenrider remained a little stiff. All tention melted out of his body when Rory called him his best friend- that had never happened before.
The Greenrider was a friend to many, but no one's best friend. Hesitating only slightly, N'zule returned the hug, inhaling deeply, smelling the comforting scent of Rory. It really was nice to not be fighting with him, even if N'zule was well aware that Rory didn't want him back- at least not in a sexual way.
Slightly regretful, but feeling Delith start to get irriated by his slowness, N'zule released Rory.
"So," His voice was still slightly worried, "You'll go then, right?"

Finally Rory felt relieved of all of his burdens. Just being able to hug N'zule without any hard feelings or harsh words following it would be a great step forward. Even if they had to be friends and not what he would have really liked to be. Still he wasn't going to rush into anything with N'zule again. They both had some things to deal with and mostly it was themselves.
He released from the hug, feeling so much better. He watched N'zule's expressions but found the greenrider hard to read. This was one of the few times he had ever heard N'zule so unsure of himself. "Of course!" He smiled at the greenrider reassuringly. "Though I can understand if you have to cancel or something in the future." In other words he was trying not to get his hopes up. One never knew when the plan would change. N'zule might have someone else to bring with him then.
"Anyway, I better not keep you." He understood that N'zule had one person he would always love more than any man. That was the one love he could understand. Delith was a good dragon too. He couldn't think of another green who was as beautiful or sweet as she was. In many ways her rider could be the same but both were just as likely to be quick to anger.
