Leshya had calmed down a little bit. She knew that, under the circumstances, Enald could not get upset about this news bothering her - it would bother anyone. However, she did not want to overly concern him.
She had not yet moved her stuff into the office, waiting on the desk that he was going to have moved in there. If she had moved in, then she would not have been able to calm down before going to Enald. Though to be honest that would not have been bad either.
She did not knock, not now that she was going to be using the office too. She did not see much reason to knock if it was no longer his refuge. She also did not worry about whether there was anyone in there. Even a completely empty-brained woman would be concerned about the death of children in her hold.
"Enald? Have you heard these reports? About the disease in the Hold?"

Enald had been looking over a complaint by several journeymen smith's and miners about the management of a minor Hold at the very edge of his territory. Apparently, the man had been shortchanging everyone to make it look like his hold was higher producing than it actually was. Enald was fairly sure it had something to do with enticing a young girl into becoming his newest wife, but he wouldn't have told anyone those suspicions.
When Leshya entered, he didn't even look up from the report until she started speaking.
"Ah- no. I thought that we were out of sickness season?" Enald asked in confusion. It was springtime, the time that babies were born, not the time of death- that was in the deepest of winter.

Leshya handed him the reports she'd gotten from the headwoman, with the bit of information from outside the Hold proper. "There's something going around. It seems to have a high death rate for the very young, old, and sickly."
"The reports I've gotten aren't complete. I don't know how many we've lost. But it has hit the hold proper. Two of the drudges have lost children already."
She was managing to share the news with him without her own fear coming through, something she was quite proud of herself for at the moment. "We need to have a meeting with the Healers, at least the leader of the Healers assigned to us." Yes, she'd gone to the Master Healer at Fort for her own checkup, but they were a major hold, they had Healers. "We need more details."
She looked at her husband, and while her voice was steady, he'd see the fear in her eyes.

As the disease didn't effect the able-bodied working class, Enald didn't quite grasp the problem. The idea that one of his Holders was abusing his powers was rather more important to him, and seeing about getting wrongs righted, or removing the man from his position was far more important that a disease that killed off drudges children. He might have been more concerned if the two of them had children, but they didn't- and his father made sure to stay healthy, and away from those who weren't.
"Well, you'll need to set up a meeting with them, approve them emergency funds to pay for extra workers. And- we have enough empty rooms, or do we need to empty some more out?"
His mind wasn't fully on the subject, but he looked up at his wife and frowned. He doubted he was forgetting anything, but there was always a first time.
"Will that be enough?"

She'd be concerned about the injustice too, if she knew about it. But children were dying, and while she might not have her own yet, that definitely saddened her.
"None of the reports say what happens if a pregnant woman gets sick."
There it was. He had been the one to point out that she might be pregnant and they don't know it yet. "I don't know if it would cause a miscarriage or birth defects or what..."
She managed to still keep her voice calm. "I'm not sure. Those reports aren't complete. I don't know how much this has spread in Telgar. Some of the minor holders might have lost children. It seems to be highly contagious, it spreads quickly. At least from what I can tell. The Hold could lose most or even all of its children, Enald."

It would be a long term problem then- when the children were suppose to take their places as the workers of the Holds would have a loss for several turns. Just how big the gap was, had yet to be determined.
"Well, if our first child is born a Dimglow, I'll set him up with my brother as a worker." Enald said. It was, after all, fairly common, no matter which family you came from. It usually wasn't the first child- but you never knew.
"How old do children have to be before the disease stops effecting them?" He hoped it was ten- a decade of under population was not something that he even wanted to consider. "And is it effecting the Weyr?" If the Weyr had a problem with population- and they needed to Search more children, they just might be facing a disaster of great strength.

She blinked at her husband, trying to figure out which part of her not having enough information he had not understood. And tried to ignore the comment about if their child was a dimglow.
She took a deep breath, he was just being the Lord of his Hold, and she was the one who brought the information to him. At least he understood the gravity now. "I don't know the answer to any of those questions, Enald. That's why I suggested we set up a meeting with our head healer. We need more information."
She didn't notice that her eyes had teared up a bit at the thought of finally getting pregnant only for something to be wrong or worse.

Enald blinked. "Well, then why haven't you set it up already?" Enald paused. "Go set it up, and I'll get this desk in here for you."
The slender man stood up, and offered his arm to Leshya. Though they would part barely seconds after they exited the door, it didn't matter to him. He would, however, find out what was taking the drudges so long- the desk should have been up there by now.

"Because I had hoped you had more information than I did!" She sighed, not yelling at him, just frustrated - and not at him either. "I also didn't know if you already had."
She would kiss his cheek before heading off to find the head healer assigned to Telgar. To be honest, he should have come to them to start with, but... but he might have had his hands full. "I'll set up for this afternoon. We really need that information."
It did not even occur to her that anyone who saw her as she parted from her husband would see that she had a determination that was not what one would expect from the empty-brained lady she pretended to be.
