Venaru was working under the Headwoman yet again. After a few turns in the creche, it was a welcome change of duties. She found herself taking some inventory and overseeing some organizational work. She rather liked working in the kitchens and for the Headwoman. Screaming kids was not her forte. She had taken that job because she was pregnant and thought she might as well take a chance to raise her own kid. Well she had been a mother for 2 turns now and that was enough. She did not doubt she'd be a mother again. She had a nice body, not to skinny but rather curvier than many riding women she knew. And who wouldn't want to bed her? Well now that she decided not to stand anymore, she didn't mind having other children- she didn't mind not having children either.
Venaru was looking at the numbweed stocks when she decided to go and ask the Headwoman something. She lingered a moment, not sure if she heard footsteps or not.

R'net had followed his orders- find out the existing number of Numbweed barrels, decide from past records how many would be needed, then go gather a corresponding number of older riders to take Weyrfolk outside and gather. It was simple enough, and it had been done for countless years, by countless retired riders.
It was simple enough, except for the fact that the Headwoman hadn't a clue what the number of barrels were, nor who to go to find out. She was getting up in her years, and had forgotten. So, in all of his "exuberance" to get helping out, he'd found himself wandering down into the deep, cold, and rather odd smelling caverns of the Weyr. He was pretty sure he'd headed to the right area(Numbweed just had that smell about it), and had slowed into an easy amble.
He truly had been stupid to agree to help out with the woman's work. He could have thought of another reason to have stumbled into her quoters. Shards, even pretending to have wanted a chance to flirt with her would have been a smarter idea. But nothing he could do would change it now, best just got along with the flow.
As was beginning to form into an unfortunate habit, R'net was too wrapped up in his own thoughts to pay much attention to sounds outside of his own head. He did not hear anything.

Venaru now knew that some one was coming and came face to face with R'net. A handsome young bronzerider, and a slow smile came to her face and then dissapeared. Surely he had not come to have a chat with her or any other lower cavrens woman. He had an air of business about him, and she did not want to appear to be a silly little flirt. She curtsied to him, "Ah, bronzerider, are you looking for something?'
Though what he'd be looking for down here was beyond her. She couldn't really think of any excuse and was rather curious to find out his reason. He couldn't have been lost. Usually by the time a person is a few sevendays into candidacy, or even weyrlinghood, they know most of the main passages and not to go down abandoned ones. This man was clearly no weyrling, and actually, he looked like some one she'd seen around in her few turns of being here. Indeed, she would very much like ot know what he was doing down here. Venaru had not expected anyone else to come find her, not even the Headwoman. "Might I help you?"

Still walking, he found himself facing a rather good looking woman- he was fairly sure he'd heard her described before, and had heard a rare bit of news about her recent advancement. Of course, for the life of him, he couldn't remember her name, and Torenth was all wrapped up with a pretty green, and was no help at all.
"Headwoman's Second, yes? Call me R'net." It wasn't the smoothest of his lines, but R'net really wasn't look for a girl at that time- though he wouldn't be brisk now in case a later need showed it's head.
"I'm attempting to fine the one who will show me how many barrels of numbweed we have, how many we need, and how many people will be needed to gather enough raw material. I suppose then I'll fall unto bended knee and take the person away with me- male or female, since I've been trying to find all of that out since this morning, and the person to free me from this task will be my savior."
It was more than a little speech, as R'net was getting a tad exasperated with the whole process of finding information. He continued looking over the woman(girl?), hoping her name, and anything else he might know about her would come up.

"Yes, one of her assistants." He hadn't asked for her name at all, so she did not give it to him at the time. Anyway, he went on quickly. She found her self looking at him wide eyed and the smiling at him. He had said: "I suppose then I'll fall unto bended knee and take the person away with me- male or female, since I've been trying to find all of that out since this morning, and the person to free me from this task will be my savior."
"Well I can show you, Bronzerider. And you may call your savior Venaru. Though I think that my Headwoman might need me so after you are done taking me away you'll have to return me." The young woman smiled at him slowly and folded her arms in front of her. "If you'll follow me please, it's none too far and you take the inventory."

"You know where everything is, and how it works?"
R'net's face exploded into a smile of joy. The man, who had a habit of showing off his emotions physically after being frustrated, seemed to expand with joy, letting out a whoop. Before he could remember that spinning people into impromptu dances(especially went there was no music) was a bad idea, the rider reached over to Venaru and spun around in a happy circle.
"Thank you, my Lady," He said, after regaining his composure. "I hope-ah, I didn't muss you?" Looking rather embarrassed, and hoping earnestly she wouldn't spread about that he was a little too joyful about finding numbweed, he carefully stepped a little farther away from her, hoping she wouldn't slap him. A Headwoman's assistant shouldn't have to worry about exuberant Wingseconds, after all.
"I suppose we should be going to the Inventory, then." Though it was the destination for his task, R'net didn't sound to happy about it. He wanted to go somewhere, and do something. Promising himself a swim with Torenth after this, R'net waited for Venaru to lead the way.

She nodded, and then got a pretty big shock. R'net looked so happy, so relieved, so sweet, and she felt happy that she had the power to do that. Even though it wasn't exactly her, just the line up of circumstances. He reached for her and swung her around and she could not help but to smile and laugh. It was almost childish, but she didn't think of that at the moment.
She ran a hand through her hair after he stood still and smiled, "No you didn't muss me up, all is well." Actually, if she hadn't been laughing. she might have hit him, given her current avoidance of them. Men were trouble, but she had liked to see him all lit up and happy because she had the power to help him. "I s'pose we should, this way, Bronzerider."
She led him not too far away and took a right into a cavren with mostly healing type herbs. There were only a very few barrels of numbweed. They would need more, but for the moment, there had been no need. "Here we are."

"Is it suppose to be this low?" R'net asked, having become more serious by the time he reached the Numbweed. "You'd think, what with the chance that single injury on a green could probably use up a whole barrel of this stuff we'd have more stockpiled.
Quickly counting out how many barrels of the painkiller they had, R'net recorded the number on a small sheet of hide. He then turned back to Venaru, smiling.
"Well, I did promise to take you away- where would you like to go?" He winked at her, but was dead serious. He owed this lady a favor- the idea that he could still be wandering around looking for a few measly barrels of Numbweed bothered him.

"Ah, well, these are the stocks, the healers have plenty of smaller pots for use. I guess they don't really expect to be used. I guess you could say we've gotten lazy with the fewer deaths and serious injuries. We should change that, I s'pose. I mean with the making of more numbweed. I'm pretty sure there is a day coming up scheduled for the numbweed process." She answered as proffessionally as possible.
He turned to her and had smiled. How she liked it. It suited him very well. Then he wanted to make good on his promise. Her eyebrows arched, she had though he was only kidding. And she grinned back at him mischieviously, "Well, I have no idea, actually. Do you have anything in mind? Unless you just want to get klah anywhere but here. I could really use a change of scenery."

R'net offered her his arm, while pondering the places they could go. Sadly there were no current gathers he could think of to go to. Gathers, with their lovely dancing and singing were always fun, and Riders were always treated well at them.
"Well, I could take you to a pretty mountainside if you wanted that kind of change in scenery." R'net offered, his eyes narrowed in concentration.
(Bleh, short!)

She took his arm, smiling to herself just a bit. She, on the arm of a bronzerider? Venaru would have never dreamed of it! Not that she would act like a star struct girl. She was more mature than that. Venaru would be happy to go any where with him. And when he suggested a mountain side, she nodded, "That would be absolutly perfect. How thoughtful! I'm sure I could get us a picnic, if you'd like, Wingsecond."
The Assistant was very pleased with her day thus far. This sevenday, actually. How glad she was to be doing inventory this day! Venaru liked R'net better than her former love, the father of her son, just for being much more mature. The young woman thought him responsible, and actually very friendly. She had not expected him to be so. She had invisioned bronzeriders to be arrogant, demanding fellows with gruff voices. Perhaps this was an exception? Or perhaps she had an incorrect assumption. Probably the latter was true, but she did not know.

"A picnic sounds lovely!" R'net smiled helpfully, with a glimmer of happiness at how well everything was turning out. They passed into a place that was well lit, and obviously a part of the real Weyr- not the stores.
"Meet you in the weyr bowl in a half an hour? You get the food, and I'll get everything else." His mind was quickly checking off things that would be needed. A blanket, extra harness straps, and a thicker jacket.
He bowed slightly to her after she answered, and went off to do her bidding.

Venaru beamed. He was pleased with her. She paused for a moment and wondered how she found happiness in pleasing a man when she had avoided them for the last three turns? Well, it seemed that she had forgotten how they could make her feel. Even as she started to blossom, she knew that she'd always love men, then she got pregnant and was a little dismayed, gave up her riding dream, left guys alone all together. But now she was actually beaming at a man- a bronzerider of all! Yes, it would seem that Venaru was coming back into her old self.
"Sounds good!" He bowed and left her and she scurried to the kitchens, ordering a drudge to help her pack. She wanted to impress him with some of the best morsels. Venaru and to pause and think of why, but then just grinned. She was a Headwoman's Assistant. She was going on a picnic with a very handsome young man. There was nothing for Venaru to worry about. Things were finally going her way.
