It had been one of those days that nothing had gone right, and Nisha was feeling rather exhausted. It was lunch time, and she hadn't timed it right to get there before the big rush, nor after it. Though she didn't have to worry about getting jostled about, the drudge stood rather still, trying to find a good place to sit.
Preferably, she would find a table with family sitting at it- today was a day for family. They might laugh at you as much as the next person(even more in some cases more than others), but at the end of the day, they'd still look after you.
Smoothing her rough brown dress, her dark brown eyes darted about, looking for the perfect seat. Spotting it after only a few minutes of searching, Nisha settled herself across from a very familiar face.
"Hullo, Uncle." She announced happily, starting her quest for the food already placed on the table.

No wine for two days, Rory was going through some serious withdrawl, though he wouldn't let on to anyone. His hands betrayed him by shaking now and again. He had planned to sit alone so he wouldn't be tempted by wine. Good company often led to wine.
When he heard a voice across from him he looked up. Nisha? Surely she knew that he wasn't...oh she didn't. "Hello Nisha. Having a good day?"
He bit into a redfruit, careful to make sure no one noticed anything about him. Rory didn't want people to talk about him. Not when he was doing something like this. No one else would understand, other than family. His struggle with wine had been ongoing for many turns. Most people thought it was normal but the amount that Rory drank was not normal nor was the fact that he drank everyday. Now he would undergo the opposite. No wine at all.

Feeling free to talk around another drudge, Nisha smiled sweetly. She had a soft spot for Rory, not only was he her brother and cousins foster mother's brother, but he was also weyrmated(or at least, he had been the last time she'd checked) with her uncle, N'zule. It wasn't an uncommon relationship, not in the Weyr, but she'd always liked him anyway. Spending time with her family was how she spent most of her free time, so she had better relationships with outer relations anyway.
"I misjudged the time, but if it means spending time with my dearest friend, it'll only get better." Heaping her plate up with food(she'd already dealt with not being the thinnest girl around, and while not happy about it, she was past the point of limiting her food), she leaned forward slightly to continue talking.
"Haven't seen you around lately. How've you been?"

He grinned at Nisha. "Too bad I never pay attention to the time. Its a waste to think about it. Though admittedly, my job isn't on a time limit." Not many in the Weyr could fix things as quickly and as well as Rory did. Not that he liked to brag of his handiwork.
"I didn't want to be the one to tell you...." He trailed off, his eyes going from bright and happy to utterly depressed. "I assummed you would know why I've been hard to find. I'm sorry Nisha. N'zule and I had a fight and I can't go back to him." He kept tears from coming because he didn't want her to know how much it hurt.
"I hope it won't affect us though. I think we should still be friends and Nisha, you can still talk to me about anything." Rory didn't like estranging people just because his personal life wasn't going as it should be. Especially after the other night when he had pushed Allior away enough to make her bring up his drinking problem when he was sober the next morning.
"Also I'm going on two days without wine. Allior says it will be best for me not to drink it anymore. You and I both know she's the one with all the common sense in my family. "

"But- you were like- and." Nisha was shocked into speechlessness. N'zule and Rory- no longer together? Sure, they'd only been together a turn, but N'zule and Rory had seemed destined to have a long future together. In a Weyr that had a problem with commitment, it had seemed that the two would form one of the rare lasting bonds.
"I'm sorry." Nisha offered, blinking. Her mind quickly grasped for a different topic of conversation. Not necessarily a topic that was safer, but definitely a different one.
"Oh my. Getting the shakes?" Rory off wine, well that was an interesting idea. She, like everyone else in the family, knew that he drank a little too much, a little to much of the time. She wondered how long it would last.

It had never been about not loving one another. Rory would always love N'zule, whether the greenrider knew it or not. Even if Rory could go back, he wouldn't, not now. He had to get his own life in control before he tried for a relationship of any kind. Allior was right. She was usually right. If there was anyone who had his best interests in their heart it was her. He had to believe that not drinking would get better and he would become a person that wasn't looked down upon.
"Last night a lot more so than now." he looked down at his hands. He had lovely hands. If it was one thing he was vain about it was them. When they were shaky and unsteady he was miserable. This was only the beginning to changing his life around for the better. "I'm well rid of it.... and don't tell your uncle that he was right, he has a big enough ego as it is."

Nisha chuckled. "Oh, Rory, I'd never betray you to N'zule." Her eyes were light with poorly concealed mirth. "Those Greenriders need to be kept in place." A slight wink was given to her "Uncle", and she reached out to cover his hands with hers. Rory was a man who worked this his hands- it would been degrading to have them not function.
After removing her comforting hands, the drudge looked back down at her meal. It looked, more than usual, strangely appealing. Quickly, and efficiently, she began eating, relieving in how tasteful the food felt. Really, it was the same food as always, but it was good- perhaps she ought to take more days off from her- ah, habit.
"Us non-riders must stick together after all. What do you have planned for after lunch?"

"Else they'd ruin all us Lower Caverns folk with their amiable natures." He wasn't about to let all this get him down when in the company of a friend. A friend he could trust not to turn this into any sort of situation that would get him into their bed. He wasn't sure he was ready to move on to that level, with anyone.
"I had planned on visiting my sister and the girls. Little Rorie has requested we go to the Lake. And when a two turn old says Lake, its so cute, you can't help but want to take her." Of course, all of Allior's daughters had a soft spot in his heart. They were almost his, he was the only man constantly in their lives.
"Nishan has been doing very well by the way. He's full of advice. One of these days I think either Kerzule or Alene will bop him on the head. He is a bit of a know it all. Not to worry, he has the best teacher in that area. Allior is an expert at running other peoples lives." He knew Nashin was getting it from Allior, which was saying a lot. Foster children rarely grew as attached as the boys were to Allior. She had always been like a mother to everyone even as a kid. Being the eldest child, it wasn't suprising.

"I imagine it must be cute." Nisha said, feeling distanced. Due to her record of being a flake, the Headwoman would have never entrusted Nisha with a child- probably not even one of her own. She was around her cousins and brothers, but none of them were closer than four turns to two turns old, and she'd never been around the younger ones much anyway.
"Nishan will find it hard to dish out advice when he realizes that we see when he doesn't follow his own advice." Nisha commented with grin. She had a soft spot for all of her brothers, and Nishan was one she fully expected to Impress, and do her family proud.
"Is it just me, or is the food really good today?"

She did seem to be scarfing down her food with a voracity he had not known she possessed. Rory meanwhile had barely touched his food. "I think its you. Going through another growth spurt or something?" He looked a little concerned.
He'd keep and eye out for her later, just to make certain she wasn't ill or something. She wasn't acting herself. Well he'd just be sure she was okay before he left.

"Hmmm." Another growth spurt? It was doubtful, even if she was a little under average height. "I hope not. Attempting to get new clothes out of the Headwoman is about as easy as finding a Firelizard."
As in, it was as hard as catching smoke. Or killing a tunnelsnake without getting wounded. There was a reason that most of her clothing was ratty, and that was because she hated having to get spare things from the Headwoman, or the ranking drudges(a contradiction in terms, but one that did exist).
"And I'm at the perfect height anyway." She suddenly smirked, and decided on another option.
"Maybe I'm pregnant." She didn't sound serious, or worried at all. Though most of the girls her age had experienced pregnancy, or at least a pregnancy scare, Nisha never had. Infertility didn't run in her father's side of the family, but on her mothers- well, neither of her aunts had more than a child or two, and her uncles less than that. In fact, Nisha looked like she was about to start laughing from the very idea. She doubted she'd ever have children at all.

"Yes, both are doubtful." He agreed, knowing they had talked about both things in the past. She was unlikely to ever become pregnant and as far as Rory knew was too old to be getting another growth spurt. "As long as you are well. I heard rumors of illness in the weyr earlier and I'd hate to see you become ill."
Rory was genuine with close friends. He wouldn't see her sick if he could help it. Not caring about the time was probably not in rory's favor at this point. "Shards, I'm late! Allior is going to flame me. I swear if she were a dragon, she would."

Nisha laughed cleanly. "Well you'd best be off then. I'd hate to have my leisure time interrupted by the sound her beating you." She gave the older man a little wave, and went back, with an interested curiosity to her food.
"See you later, Rory." She hoped that his little nieces would enjoy their afternoon at the lake, but was sure that didn't need to be stated. That settled, she turned her attention downwards.
Honestly, Rory must have been missing his taste buds- this food was delightful. Her hands went back to fidgeting with her dress(a worn brown color, with stains at the bottom of it), and she was soon distracted by her own thoughts and feelings.
