OOC; Chomping at the bit to jump into RP, but I wanted to preface the "open" part with the fact that I'm out of town Wed for the following week. Just in case the thread is still active when I leave, wanted to give a warning instead of just leaving someone hanging.
------------- The lake was still chilled in the early morning hours, though not nearly as much as a month ago, for that L'res was grateful. Not that it did to dwell on that fact, he knew. A Dragon's mockery knows no bounds, and Zaneth would certainly seize the opportunity to do so at any hint of complaint. Not that he felt the cold, of course, L'res shook his head at the blue figure still playing in the water, while he climbed out onto the shore. L'res just watched him for a moment, the morning light glinting off the scales and the water painting quite the picture.
Flattery won't get you out of those exercises. Scones yesterday. You'll have a middle soon enough.
L'res chuckled aloud at that, a glance down at his midsection showing no worry of that in the foreseeable future. I recall that someone helped themselves to a few more wherries than he probably needed last night. Still, the scones were good, and L'res dropped to the ground, beginning a long series of sit-ups.
Fully necessary. Training was long. came Zaneth's response, but there was a hint of humor before he dove deep into the water.

Jeyna usually ran in the mornings, but this morning she had chosen - at Ragoth's insistence that he wanted to swim - to come down to the lake instead. Well, she could still run if she wanted to, a couple of laps around the lake. She wrinkled her nose, not as private as she tended to like her morning runs, but Ragoth was her first responsibility - and her first love.
Play for a while. I'll bathe you after I've run a few laps.
When there was no flight, Ragoth did not see other blues as rivals, so the blue vain one would dive in close to where the other dragon had, content to have company as he swam.
Jeyna smiled and started to run, perhaps after she washed Ragoth, she'd go for a swim herself.
Only if you oil me first.
Yes, vain one.
She shook her head as she was running around the lake. She blinked as she came upon L'res doing situps. While she did not stop running, she would jog in place for a moment, "Ever notice how you don't see Brown or Bronzers exercising during these insanely early hours." She grinned down at him.
Of course, Jeyna didn't technically consider running exercise.

L'res finished his count before swinging up into a full seated position, glancing around until he located the voice. "Funny how that works," he said, a smile to greet the woman. "Let them laugh now, though. We'll have the last laugh when they're too fat to pull the bench to the table." After a brief, conspiritorial pause, he added, "Though truth be told, if he wasn't such a light sleeper..." a nod toward the rippling waters where Dragon had just disappeared.
You would laze the entire day away. Zaneth provided, head emerging from the water, before pushing off length-wise, a nod of greeting and indication of swimming challenge to the other blue.
L'res rolled his eyes, before springing to his feet. "Needed some variety this morning, Jeyna? Don't see you around here that often."

She glanced over at the two blues and grinned, Keep it friendly, vain one.
It is always friendly.
She smirked and then turned her attention back to L'res, still jogging in place, "The vain one wanted to come swimming and insisted that I not abandon him for my morning run."
She chuckled at the idea of any Riders becoming decrepit. "Oh, I don't think it'll be that bad." She grinned, "But we'll be the ones still able to find bed partners."

"Now don't go breaking my fragile fantasy. Although I suppose the last is reward enough," L'res replied, a grin of his own in response.
He glanced at the retreating forms of both dragons. "Yes, they both seem to suffer from abandonment issues. As Zane would tell it, I don't spend nearly the proper time grooming him. It must be just part of the way they're born. Enough on him, though. Anything exciting for you lately?"

Jogging in place wasn't quite the same as going for a run, "Wanna run with me? Long distance running - the key is not to go so fast you can't talk anyway, and you can count it as exercise." She grinned a bit at that. Others thought of running as exercise, for her it was as necessary to life as breathing and as freeing as flying.
She chuckled, "Nothing too exciting, especially now that we're not doing sweep riding or searching, its kind of boring actually." Gold flight wasn't even as exciting for a Blue Rider. She had watched somewhat and even Mothed, and had quite enjoyed it, but it was simply not the same as being one of the pursuers yourself.

By way of response, L'res took off ahead of her, setting an easy pace around the basin.
"I have to agree with you on that one," he said, when they were near enough again to continue the conversation. "Life's been pretty dull. Well, at least if you're not dealing with the sick," he added, mild distaste at the thought. "I imagine they're keeping busy enough. But the rest of us...
"Need something big to shake things up a bit."

She laughed at the implied challenge and would speed up just enough to catch up with him. As a runner, it did not take long at all for her to catch up with him. "I know you like to compete, L'res, but I'm a runner born and bred." She winked over to him.
"I don't envy those taking care of the sick. Though it makes me glad that I've never had to worry about a little of my own. However, I hate feeling all helpless in a crisis like this." She shrugged a bit, not much she could do about it.
She smirked a bit over to him, "Be careful about what you wish for, L'res. Something big to shake things up could be rather dangerous. Besides, after the flight the other day, we should have a hatching in a few months - and once this quarantine is lifted, that'll mean search rides."

L'res simply turned his head to the side long enough to offer a bright grin her way. "Someday, you know, you'll meet someone who can actually beat you in a footrace. And I just hope I'm around to watch."
"Search will be good," he nodded, letting his words fall into time with his pace. "Get out, around. Doing something. That's what drives away helplessness. Well, that and running."

Jeyna laughed merrily, "I never said that I was the fastest runner on all of Pern. There are many Runners who could easily beat me. After all, one run each morning is nothing compared to what they run every day." She smiled over to him, "Though they'd find the things we do every day a bit different."
"Well, our Dragons seem to think that pampering the vain selves is one thing we can do to keep from feeling so helpless as well." She smirked.
"So where would you want to go Search? I mean, if your Wing could be assigned to Search anywhere, where would you want to go?"

"Different kind of endurance, hmm?" L'res lifted an eyebrow her way, then turned thoughtful. "Where would I go? Somewhere warm. Anywhere that's warm, actually. More than tired of the cold. How about you?"

She grinned, "Works all kind of different muscles to bathe and oil a vain and not tiny dragon. Going between is much scarier than a sprained ankle, at least until you're used to it. And flying... that's a whole different issue."
And that was not even talking about Green Flights.
"Me?" She grinned, "Anywhere I've not been before would be good. I like going new places. And I do have to admit, between is a much faster way to get there than running."
