The Bronzerider was waiting patiently for his current date to arrive, and was taking some gentle teasing from his bronze. Apparently there was big difference between courting a green, and courting a lady.
R'net leaned up against Torenth, waiting for Venaru to come out with the food. He had readjusted his safety harness so that Venaru would have a place to sit, and had tied down the blanket and other supplies he'd gathered together quickly.
It was a beautiful day for a picnic.
Tor, ask the Watchdragon what the weather's like around, okay?
Torenth rumbled his agreement, and then bespoke the brown watchdragon, finding out which of many places of Pern was having the best weather right then.

Venaru had fussed with her hair while a drudge packed her basket. They were fine morsels, though she didn't think she could keep klah warm enough for the trip, and wine seemed to forward for a first date. So instead she brought some nice, chilled fruit juices, along with two cups. Got some good meat, some bread, some fruit, some sweets. All the bases were covered, in her opinion.
She straightened out her dress a little, and then grabbed the basket and went to meet R'net. The woman smiled as soon as she saw him, and her eyes lit up as she saw the bronze, "Oh how lovely your dragon is! And how lovely you look, R'net! I have a basket with plenty of food. Have you got a place in mind for us to picnic?"

Telgar's having good sun. Southern Boll is balmy. I like Southern better. R'net nodded slowly to his dragon's request, and decided on the small beach on the tip of Boll. Water, food, sun, and sand- what could go wrong.
He was startled out of his reverie when Venaru spoke to him, and he blinked. Bowing to give himself a second to think of answers to her questions, he stood, and smiled sweetly.
"Yes, he is rather fine looking isn't he? Not even half as spoilt as he looks either." The Bronzerider sounded teasing, but the dragon ignored the joke, and sent him a completely serious message. Thank you. Now let's go. I want to take a bath in warm water. Ignoring his dragon for just a little bit, the man continued to answer Venaru's questions.
"I know a nice little beach in Southern Boll, and I figured we could go there." He paused and reached out to take the basket of food off of her hands, and attach it to Torenth's harness.
"Need a boost up?"

She returned his sweet smiled and said, "Oh! Southern Boll, how exotic. I'd like to go there very much." And she would. She had never been to Southern Boll before, nor anywhere remotely tropical with wide sand beaches. . . And with a handsome bronzerider to boot. Always the ambitious girl, she was already thinking ahead. How could she catch his affections? Snare his attentions?
Maybe that was silly and she pushed the thoughts away from her when he spoke next, and she was not going to decline his kind offer of helping her up, plus that meant there would be some contact between them. She also was not used to riding dragons, so a boost would probably help her from making a fool of herself, "Why, yes thanks, I love a boost."

Clasping his hands together to make a step, the bronzerider waited for the assistant to take a step onto his hand and then be flung up onto Torenth's back. It wasn't the most graceful of things, but neither was scrambling up the side of a dragon trying to get on.
In fact, it was a constant amazement that regular Dragonrider's could make mounting look graceful. R'net supposed it had something to do with lots of practice, and the dragon anticipating your moves instead of standing stiffly still, waiting for the foreigner to mount.
"You've never been to Boll?" The Bronzerider asked, in surprise. Telgar and Boll were pretty far away, but Fort and Telgar had a fairly good relationship. He supposed the girl(he had trouble thinking of the bubbly lady as a woman) had to yet make a dragonriding paramour who took her places.

The assistant put her basket on the ground so she could get on the dragon first. Venaru used his hands as a step and with his boost scrambled up and got situated. She held her hand low, "I'll take the basket now, and thanks for the help."
She wondered how riders found it so easy to mount such big creatuers, especially bronze and gold riders, who rode the biggest dragons. She was just happy she hadn't fallen, yet. She was a little nervous, but even more excited to be going flying. She hadn't flown on dragon back since she was Searched, and that was a few turns ago already.
"You've never been to Boll?"
"Nope," She said, "I'm originally from Crom, and I never got a chance to travel too much" And no, her only actual lover, if you could call them that, for they had only been with eachother a short while, was not yet a rider when they were together. Venaru was always aware she looked younger for her turns, but fancied that it would help her when she was older. She was not always so bubbly, the only other person to see her as such was her son, or perhaps some one she wanted to impress, like R'net. The drudges she ordered around would never have recoginized her laughing and smiling, for usually Venaru was highly disciplined, and many times displeased. Not even Venaru could be turned of by the male sex for too long.

"Well, I hope that I show you place that does it justice." R'net remarked calmly, mentally checking where everything was on Torenth. Torenth confirmed his initial check, and he looked at the woman placed safely in front of him.
"If you're afraid of heights, it's best not to look down. Just stare at Torenth's head." It was easy advice- the same he gave any of the rare people who rode on his dragon's broad back.
Are we clear to go? The rider asked silently, ready to leave.
The watchrider wishes us a good day, and reports that we are free to go.
Torenth's moved his wings down in a powerful downdraft, lifting his large bulk up into the air- then R'net focused on a clear picture of the beach they were going too, and passing it onto Torenth, they popped Between and were soon circling the beach.

Venaru was never one to be afraid of much anything. Perhaps the one exception was that she secretly was afraid of being rejected by dragons, being mauled to death. It was the biggest reason that she blamed not Impressing on her pregnancy. Perhaps then riding was just not her thing. But boy, she'd love to be weyrmated off. Riders had a certain allure to her, and R'net was a handsome one. She smiled to herself, loving the fact that she was so close to him on dragonback. It had been a long time since a man roused her to romantic notions. Many men had tried and failed to get her armourus attentions.
"I'm not afraid." She declared with some confidence. She knew between would be cold, but she had quite forgotten just how cold it could be. The breaking above the beach was a welcome relief, and it seemed that her limbs became much less numb in the first seconds, and she looked down, awed by the beauty of being at bird's eye view. She breathed, "Wow."
