((this is late in the evening, after candidate/weyrling curfews.))
Gwyn sat slumped looking into the fire. Her eyes were blank and her hands held up her head as she sat there. Her sister had gone to bed, but thie greenrider was just not tired. She had no want to sleep and dream or anything. Gwyn was not sure why she felt so blank tonight. Maybe it was because her green had just been flown a few sevendays days ago and once again she was displeased with the rider half of the pair. Pull yourself together, Gwyn. This is no time to be a silly girl. This is the way of the Weyr, get used to it, She told herself. Thank goodness she had her sister here to knock some sense into her every once in a while.
The greenrider sat back in her chair. T'ran would be wanting her back, but she really didn't want to go. Gwyn sighed, promising herself to be stronger with the man. She'd break things off. . . tomorrow. Gwyn didn't really want him as a weyrmate anyway. Why she had kept him around until now was beyond her. Maybe she was just lonely. But that would be a stupid reason.

K'dyn was up every night for the most part. He traveled the Weyr looking for things to do. Tonight he was seated with some other riders, playing dragon poker. As always, he cheated. When he won, a lot of money, he shot up from his seat, "Thank you gentlemen for playing. I'll see you again sometime." He pulled all the marks into his bag and once the others had left, cursing themselves he sat still, at the table, laughing at their stupidity.
"And that folks is why you can't trust the Zahra Wing." He grinned in his misheif. Standing he walked over to his favorite seat. He had thought there was no one else at the Night Hearth so the suprise on his face when he almost sat on the woman there nearly killed him. "Oh! I didn't see you..." He explained. Not really wishing to start a conversation with the woman. After all women were more trouble than they were worth. This one, looked to be in more trouble than she was trouble. Which made him think there was a man involved. "My apologies, lady."

"Oof!" had escaped her lips as some one's bum came crashing down upon her. Well, maybe not crashing. He stood and she pushed herself into the corner of a chair. She was leary of men in general. Her eyes fell on his face and then she looked into the fire and mumbled, "Uh, no harm done. Did you want me to move?"
Gwyn did not have the best of luck with men. She smiled weakly, not really wanting to talk and getting the vibe that he didn't want to either. Yet the silence was annoying. She cleared her throat and said softly, "So you won tonight?" ((sorry, short))

"Oh, no, I just don't normally see anyone up this late." He hoped she wouldn't be angry, the last thing he needed was a woman yelling at him. She was being very gracious about it all. Thank Faranth. He had won, indeed, those losers!
"Yup, looks like I've got enough money to get that bed I wanted." He spoke without thinking. Shards and Shells! Now she was going to think he wanted to talk about beds and bedding people and that wasn't something he was interested in. He really was a complete deadglow tonight.
He had to get off this topic before he committed social suicide. "What has you up so late?" Late and alone in the dark passageways, she ought to have a care. Not all men in the Weyr were the friendly sort.

"Oh, no, I just don't normally see anyone up this late."
She nodded, for it was indeed late. Even she was usually in her own weyr by now. Well, at least he didn't ask her to move, not that she would have. Alright, yes, she would have. She smoothed out her skirt and sat back up in the chair. Well, he wasn't horrible company-as of yet. And she really didn't want to go back to her weyr. Not yet, anyway. She was just kind of staring off when he talked again.
"Yup, looks like I've got enough money to get that bed I wanted."
She looked at him briefly, but her expression remained the same neutral look. She briefly wondered what had happened to his old one that he'd need a new one. She blushed a little but didn't remark too much on it. It couldn't be what she thought. She knew men were not all like T'ron and some others. After a moment, she couldn't help herself so she asked him politely, "Oh yea? Is yours then really old?" Yea, that must be the reason.
Gwyn was well aware that there were plenty of unfriendly men about. Not that she really cared right now. She shrugged to his question, "I just wanted to get out. To get away from. . . " she hesitated to say my weyrmate because she really didn't think of him as one. He wasn't really devoted to her anyway. ". . . just from it all. I couldn't sleep."

He smiled. It was payback for a prank that he now had no bed. "Nah. I don't have one at the moment. A 'friend' of mine burned it."He laughed, remembering the event. Between his laughter he explained. "See I umm, played a prank on him. He was seeing this really shy young woman and we cut holes in all his regular attire, right in the crotch area. Even his under garments... It was great!"
Well it was funny up until. "Then someone snitched and he found out I was behind it. He got a hold of a flame thrower and burned my bed to the ground." Which really hadn't been a bother. "No worries now though. I got him back for it. He now has a rather itchy scalp." His smile was genuine as if life was just one big prank.
"Now you probably think I'm insane. I'm K'dyn of Brown Ortath, Zahra Wing." He added, knowing that everyone in the Weyr knew Zahra Wing's reputation it would make sense.

Gwyn laughed a little, he was a clever one, wasn't he? At least now she knew the real reason why he needed a new bed, though perhaps imagining a man with strategically placed holes in his knickers should make her blush. She giggled again, "Well at least you got him back, that's the important thing. Though where the man got a flame thrower. . ." She mused.
She wondered breifly where he was staying if he had no bed. Surely not on the floor. She thought she'd ask, thoughtful as she was, "But what makes me curious, is where you are sleeping currently? Surly you have somewhere." She blushed, he probably had a weyrmate, what a stupid question. "Oh nevermind, you probably have some one to take you in."
He introduced himself, Zahra, that explained it then. "I'm Gwyn, of Triveni."

Where he slept now? HAHAHA! Ortath was tired of sharing his couch. "He probably snuck into the smithy and stole it." Thats where he would have gone.. or even to Marisol. She found Weyr pranks funny. So long as she didn't 'know' about them.
"Well, my dragon is very good to me and he lets me sleep on his couch with him." He grinned again. He could get a nicer bed this time. The greenrider seemed to find this all more than a little amusing. Triveni wing, eh? Heh. The worst thing she probably ever did was during flight.
"An excellent Wing." He commented though he really only liked Triveni for Poker reasons. They were oh so gullible. This woman however, seemed to have poker face. Not that he really cared what she was thinking about. He wasn't one for prying into people's lives.

The greenrider half smiled, "Yes, I bet your dragon appreciates that. I know my Aurath would be complaining and commenting on it all the time until I found a new spot. She hasn't been fond of sharing a couch with me since weyrlinghood." She smirked, "But for a brown or a blue. . . Well you must know how armorous greens can be. Then again, maybe it's just mine, but she's a flirty thing." How very unlike me. . . She thought. Not that Gwyn would ever trade Aurath for another green. Not that any rider would ever do that. Gwyn figured that she and Aurath were more alike than most people knew, it's just that Gwyn was better at filtering and censoring herself than the dragon was.
"An excellent Wing."
Gwyn grinned there, "What a bold face lie, brownrider. No one compliments another's wing except if he's being polite. Every one thinks their own wing is much better than the other two. Especially here at Telgar." Her face softened a bit, "And I'll be the first to tell you that Triveni really is the most excellent. Don't play me a fool, like you of the Zahra Wing do to the rest of us Triveni's." She smiled at him a little before turning to the fire.
Truth of the matter was she was gullible and too trusting, but she didn't need to let him know that on the first night. She had promised herself to not be so weak on first impressions. You might say she was more talk than anything. She turned back to him. "So now that I know you're one of those tricksy Zahra riders, did you pull the wool over their eyes? I won't tell, I promise," That was true, you never met a greenrider with tighter lips. However, sometimes she let things slip to her only confidante: her younger sister. But why would a candidate care?

Ortath wasn't that bad at all. In fact the dragon was mostly in a good humor, as was he. "I'd have to say that many greens are like that." It was part of their purpose, something to sate the males lust when they couldn't fly Queens. He wondered if that statement had been too bold of him but she spoke again, breaking off that train of thought.
"Your calling me a liar?" The brownrider looked incredulous. Then he laughed. "Honestly I have nothign against Triveni but you are right I believe my Wing is the best of the Weyr and it is truly my niche. I'm much too wordly to be placed in Triveni and don't have the temper to deal with those in Pyralis." He hadn't expected her to be so fiesty... it was interesting.
"I would never say you were a fool but you are indeed being foolish. Out at night, wandering the caverns alone. Its not something one would do when they were being wise. Still, I will let you know what I did. I dealt the last round, had it calculated so that I would know where to sit.... and then I cheated them out of their marks and won, though quite honestly my hand was already superior than many of theirs."

Gwyn thought perhaps she had insulted him, and almost regretted pointing out his obvious fib. Maybe it was too bold of her. It was said and she couldn't take it back. He laughed so it was a good thing that he had not taken it badly. She smiled, a bit more confident that she wouldn't be too socially disasterous. "Ah yes, I agree with you. And I would say that I am too softly spoken and not very mischievious for your own wing. It takes quite a lot to unleash my temper, and well, I know I just couldn't stand Pyralis." She did not know him, or at the most she saw him once or twice. Aurath, His-
No. Ortath never tried to fly me.
Oh, okay. Well that answered that, and she was relieved. It wouldn't be akward or anything. Gwyn wasn't too keen on talking about flights either, so she wouldn't have to worry about it. Fortunately she didn't have to medidate on that because the conversation moved on. . . Somewhat.
"I would never say you were a fool but you are indeed being foolish."
She flushed deeply and looked away from him. Yes it was foolish, to be out and away from her weyr. Gwyn was usually pretty good in the way that she was always doing what she was told and overall was some one who took orders well. She was a rule follower. But this night she was restless for some reason. She just couldn't go back to T'ron, and perhaps this was her way of getting things under her control. She needed time to herself to think about things, and she had it. But she couldn't tell him that. Gwyn wasn't about to tell this rider her whole life story. So instead she didn't say anything at all.
". . . and then I cheated them out of their marks and won, though quite honestly my hand was already superior than many of theirs."
She smiled slowly, "Naturally, I'm sure." She looked at him and then looked at his bag of marks, "So do you play often? I'm afraid I never got into gambling."

"Then we are all happy in our choices. Besides if we were all pranksters there would never be a moment to relax. I mean I have to constantly watch my own back." Especially taking recent pranks into consideration. K'dyn better not do what he was planning on doing to the Wingsecond.
"I play poker, when I feel lucky." He had been very very lucky that the other dragonriders were too tipsy to care very much that he had beat them on his own deal. "It can be very profitable when you know what you are doing. I don't see you as the type who would enjoy gambling. No doubt you use your marks sparingly. "
Ortath had never really condoned his gambling either but then K'dyn had bought him some comforts for his ledge that changed his mind completely. Sometimes K'dyn didn't even need to cheat.

Gwyn giggled, no she did not gamble at all and she did cling on to her marks. She liked to save and was accustomed to an unlavish life now. At the hold she was given some trinkets, a ring once, but now she was definately not a spender. "How right you are, I save my marks to if I need anything, I have enough. I'm not exactly a huge fan of risks. I wasn't even on the sands when I Impressed. Perhaps I should learn to be more bold?"
Gwyn smiled again, it had been rather lucky how she Impressed Aurath. Gwyn liked to feel safe, content and secure, especially financially secure. You never knew when you needed some spare marks. But afterall, K'dyn knew what he was doing, and she had no idea where to even start in dragon poker.

"No need to change yourself. The world needs all types of people. For instance I would not be able to cheat other people out of their marks if they hadn't saved it to begin with." He hoped that didn't make her angry at all. That he was relying on people like her to make more for himself. Well he didn't much like the way that would go... but then maybe Gwyn wouldn't care.
"I think you should probably do things you are uncomfortable with every now and again but not all the time. It just happens that I'm more comfortable with risk than you are."

"No need to change yourself. The world needs all types of people. For instance I would not be able to cheat other people out of their marks if they hadn't saved it to begin with."
Gwyn chuckled, "You are a piece of work, you know that? You are right, though, no matter how blunt and slightly offensive as it was." He was certainly different from the Triveni riders she usually talked to. Not that it was a bad thing, actually it was interesting to meet some one new. And he was definately interesting, to say the least. He spoke again, and again she laughed a bit.
"Yes, I agree full heartedly that you are more comfortable with taking risks. It's admirable, a little." Well to her if you took risks for the sake of others, that was admirable, but dragon poker wouldn't really be considered that. Well she wasn't going to explain the difference, or even make the inclination that there was a difference.
