A sickness has spread over Pern. After turns and turns of devastation from the reemergence of Thread, and the death of the greatest Weyrwoman seen on Pern in hundreds of turns, this spreading illness is the last thing Pern needs. Not only are riders and dragons being affected all over the continent, rumors of conspiracy are circulating in the strongest Weyr on Pern. Is Southern Weyr responsible for this chaos? Have they sunk so low as to unleash a deadly sickness at Victory’s End, in hopes that they can wipe out the mutated dragonets?
The mutated Queen has Risen and clutched. The beloved Weyrlingmaster has passed, along with several others, and more have already been infected. One bronze has already gone into battle, crazed with sickness and the death of his rider, which he blamed on Southern. Who is the source of this mysterious illness, and how are the Pernese to cure it? And what will Southerns reaction be to more mutated dragons? Especially when they are now forced to share a Weyr with Victory‘s End.
