Shaking the shorter man’s hand firmly, he let go and leaned back on the desk that was currently behind him. Nodding to the man’s question, he spoke again excitement still easy to detect on his voice. “Yes, yes I did. I wanted to talk to you about the current Weyrling Classes and the class up coming.”
Reaching out an arm, he pointed to the top hide which contained the oldest class. “Class A9. That’s the oldest one and nearly to its graduation day. Rather than forcing them so late in training to get use to a new teacher I was wondering if you could handle them alone for the last few classes until graduation.”
Now moving both hands, he took the hides back again and took hold of the two middle hides among the four total. Turning so both men could see, Lan’ae held them up so both were visible. “Classes B51 and A10 are either at or past the halfway mark in their training. Its been a long time since I’ve been to classes and I’m afraid you’ll have to update me on what they should be learning at their ages along with where the classes currently stand. I thought for the next couple of sessions you could still run the class and I would act as the assistant at least until I begin to remember my own weyrlinghood.”
Pausing to turn his head and look at the man, he wondered if the idea would be approved or not. It was asking the Assistant to take on a good deal of responsibility, but Lan’ae had been humbled by his many children and asking for the help now didn’t bother him. He wanted to be able to teach the upcoming class well and correctly, but first he needed to remember what lessons he himself had been taught as by now it all seems common knowledge. What had he not known when he first impressed?
