Character Info
Name: H’seo (huh-say-oh)
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Rank: Wingrider/Searchrider
Family:
Father-Korr (58): A scavenger, hunter, and farmer for Telgar, and has been since birth. Dark grey eyes are overshadowed by a wid-brimmed hat always covering his sparse, greying hair. He was once strikingly handsome, but that has long since faded. He never takes time for fun or nonsense, and has become gruff and abrupt in his old age. He knows his work, and will not tolerate any nuisance when he is about his business. Thin and wiry, he still has a few turns left in him.
Mother-Maily (62): A drudge in the lower caverns, she too was weyrbred. Her once-black hair is now nearly white, with a few silver strands to mar the snowy color. Her eyes, set in a rounded face, are a rather unattractive shade of brown–flat and unremarkable. It was her body that drew Korr to her at the time, not the trimmings. She is a bright and cheery old woman, though her limbs now grow thin and frail. She will soon be retired.
Brother-Morr (39): A scavenger like his father, he was never found to have the potential to be a dragonrider like his brothers. He is, however, quite content with what he is, and doesn’t really care to think beyond what the day holds. He has no ambition to become more, but is good-natured and amiable. His mother’s eyes watch you beneath an untamable shock of black hair.
Brother-H’wor, rider of green Grenth (33): A rider now, he has always been amorous and was constantly having secret trysts with many of the girls in the lower caverns. He was selected as a candidate at an early age, and Impressed quickly. His green is more than happy to oblige his erotic tastes, which, by the way, swing both directions. He drops both sexes with wavy black hair and bright green eyes, and a flirtatious grin.
Sister-Kaily (14): The only daughter of Korr and Maily, she came as a surprise much later than her brothers. She has been doted upon by all three of her siblings, and enjoys their overprotective attentions. Her hair is a pretty shade of brown, and curly, accented by brown eyes darker and deeper than her mother’s.
Appearance: It has long been a whispered expression among the females of the lower caverns the Weyr grows both it’s dragons and sons tall, quick, and handsome. H’seo is no exception. The blue rider has always been an attractive man; you can ask the many girls who have vied for his attention since he was old enough to be interested in females. He isn’t really the most physically attractive man that inhabits the Weyr, (take a look at some of those bronze riders), but as seems to be Dragonrider tradition, he’s a looker.
Your first impression of the blue rider puts you in mind of a runnerbeast built for racing–lean and all legs. From his narrow hips to his lanky build, H’seo towers above all the woman and many men of Telgar, claiming a nearly obnoxious height of 6'5" for his own. His arms are long and visibly corded, lean with muscle, yet he possesses far less strength than any smith or miner. His hands are rough, calloused beyond repair, and large. His first few sevendays in the fields caused his skin to crack and bleed and blister, and now his hands are so worn they are nearly dead to sensation. He can hold his palm against a fire and not feel a thing. Another side effect to working the fields is visible only when he removes his tunic (which is rare), and that is his farmer’s tan. He generally wore sleeveless vests, so his face, neck, and arms to the shoulder are browned, but his chest and legs are as pale as a holder’s daughter.
Black hair is chopped short so as to be of no nuisance when flying, maybe an inch long, and H’seo goes to no bother to style it. He doesn’t really care what his hair looks like, as long as it’s out of his way. His eyes are a dark grey that ring his iris in a stormcloud, the expression glinting in those charcoal orbs always open, holding none of the grim or wicked secrets that many riders seem to harbor. His thin, pale lips are always set in a grin of sorts, whether it be mischievous or genuine. When he speaks, his words are always accented with his slow, farmboy drawl, something he was blessed with in birth.
H’seo is always seen in the simplest of clothes, proving that he really doesn’t care what he looks like, as long as he’s presentable enough for the ladies and not to bring shame to his wing or dragon. His tunics are generally sleeveless, with a simple half-circle cut beneath his throat, and tucked into his pants. Well-worn leather vambraces scuffed from many turns of use cover his forearms, but they are obviously oiled and cared for. The blue rider’s dark pants are always tucked into his heavy boots, and adorned with a simple, wide belt which holds his sword. A dark leather scabbard nearly matches his vambraces perfectly–scarred from use, but well-kept nevertheless. The sword itself is just as simple as the man who wields it, yet like H’seo, it is strong and capable where it counts. The pommel is nothing but a simple work of leather threaded with a small hint of silver, which meets a bone grip that has been wrapped in leather for easier handling. The crossguard is matching in simplicity, with nothing but some silver traces and one red gem set into the center. The blade is single-edged, with a deep, thin fuller running down the center to add strength.
Personality: A ready smile is always dancing on H’seo’s lips, whether it be from mirth or joy, and a hearty welcome for all who can boast the same. He is the kind of simple, honest person that will never be anyone remarkable, but you can always count on him to be who he needs to be. It is his belief that all people should just be decent, honest folks, and never try to beat out someone else. He is not so naive as to believe that is how the world is–that is merely his opinion of how things should be. He would give you the shirt off his back if you asked without a second thought, and then freeze the rest of the day himself. He has simple standards. It is a pity there are not more like him, but then again, it is not qualities such as these that breed true leaders.
He is an overall stark person–always just himself and nothing more or less. He doesn’t see any point in pretenses, and is content to be just what he is. Nor does he harbor any dark secrets or ill ambitions. The blue rider’s laugh comes easily, you will find, as well as his cheery banter and good-natured jokes. He loves nothing more than a good jest. H’seo is a rather amiable man, slow to anger and quick to forgive, and many view this as a weakness in him. However, he little heeds them, and tends to merely shrug off any anger or ill will pointed his way. He gets along with just about everyone.
H’seo was raised with a tool in his hands, so he is never lazy or slack in his duties. Reinth is always bathed and oiled regularly, and his drills are taken to with upmost respect and graveness. He is used to having something to do, so he is more than happy to work up a sweat during flight drills or performing labor for the Weyr. He feels discontent when he has nothing to occupy himself with, and as such is regularly seen out hunting with the drudges if there is no duty to claim his time. All the same, even workers know there is a limit to man’s reach, and the blue rider never misses a chance to hit the weyrhall during the evening to joke, flirt, or even gamble with a little dragon poker. Speaking of flirting, he also makes plenty of time for ladies, and loves to tease them gently until they are blushing red and giggling.
There is plenty to this blue rider, yet he is a simple man content with what he has. Life with Reinth is good–he does his job, and he does his part to ensure the safety of those he cares about. What more does a man need?
History: H’seo was born Haseo in the lower caverns of Telgar, his mother’s third child. His father was proud to have sired yet another son, and so gifted him with the name of his great-grandfather, a bronze rider. He had a great vision for the child, picturing him to be a strong, capable farmer who knew the land as well as his father did. He and Maily agreed that as their last child, he would be the one to take on the task of learning all of his father’s knowledge of the soil and the land, and take his place as one of the Headwoman’s most trusted agriculturists. His future had already been laid before him, without him having much say in the matter. As the boy grew, Korr pounded farming knowledge into the dark-haired child’s mind, pushing him to learn about the land and the animals that surrounded him. Haseo was a willing apprentice, for he had a ready mind that begged to be challenged. He was quick to learn, and by the age of 14 turns he was already well on his way to knowing even more than Korr.
Haseo loved everything about the outdoors, but by far his favorite activity was foraging and hunting with his brothers. He liked the feeling of being surrounded by nothing but an untamed expanse, as if there was a matching wildness in him that flourished in such a place. His eye was sharp, and he could fell nearly any beast whose tracks he followed. He was actually loathe to leave the forest at the end of the day and return to the weyr, a proud catch slung over his shoulder and his short hunting bow held in his hand. Morr and Hewor would often compare their catches with his, and it became custom for the three brothers to see who could fell the superior animal. It was simple pleasures like this that made Haseo’s childhood a cheerful one.
As the trio grew in age and wisdom, it soon became apparent that although the brothers shared a common bond growing up, they were now beginning to grow apart instead. Morr was satisfied with what he knew of the land around him, content to forage and farm, and in striking contrast Hewor began to despise his work and often shirked his chores to go wandering off with some pretty face or watch the riders. Haseo was torn between the two. Although he loved the feel of the wind on his face and the quiet serenity of the forest, be was starting to feel discontent with pulling weeds and nourishing plants. It was not that the boy did not like farming–it was that his mind was starting to wander elsewhere. Skyward.
At the age of 18 turns, Haseo was selected along with his brother Hewor to stand at Impression. Korr and Maily were torn at this decision, unsure if it was an honor or a tragedy. They were glad Haseo had a chance at a better life, but at the same time he carried all of his father’s knowledge. That was wasted a-dragonback. In the end, the two boys stood on the heated sands of Telgar’s hatching ground, each equally excited and anxious. As the eggs rocked and hatched, Hewor Impressed to a small, fiery green, while his brother looked onward alone. Haseo did not Impress. The dark-haired candidate was disappointed severely by his failure, but as his father taught him, you never give up just because the road becomes rocky. He was discarded at six more hatchings, but at the age of 20 turns he met his beloved Reinth and became H’seo. It was during this time his father sought him out during the Hatching Feast and gave him the only thing a poor drudge like him could offer a rider, Korr had said. It was a simple sword in a plain leather scabbard, but it meant much to the weyrling and he wears it to this day.
Weyrling training passed without true incident, the blue pair occasionally goofing but never really causing any significant mischief. They both sport the usual small scars that all dragons and riders seem to gain during that trying time, but nothing serious enough to speak of. When the pair graduated and became part of Triveni Wing, they both fell right into their new duties. H’seo had been raised to work, and it was merely part of Reinth’s nature to take to labor with vigor. They had no enemies within the wing, and their Wingleader was happy with their performance and their willingness to learn.
During the course of Reinth’s life, he has flown a few greens, but H’seo has never forged any substantial relationships with the riders. Neither does his dragon show favor to any particular female. I suppose it could be said that they have just not met the ‘one’ yet. If they do, the wingrider would surely be more than happy to settle down with her.
Dragon Info
Name: Reinth (Rain-th)
Age: 9 Turns
Color: Blue
Appearance: Looking at this blue, it is easy to match him to his rider, for in Reinth you can see H’seo reflected as clearly as your own image in clear water. He is nothing if not lanky, with long limbs that ripple with lean muscle when he moves. Compared to the bronzes, who are known for their ripped chests and worthy prowess, he is rather weak, but for a blue, he is strong enough to hold his own. His wings seem disproportionally long to his small body, but it is his tall frame and rangy limbs that create the illusion. He is actually a good size for his color, not really the smallest or the largest of his kind, and nothing special.
A dark, midnight blue graces the dragon’s frame, adorning his face, body, and tail in that velvet color. If he took to the skies at night, one would be hard-pressed to discern his form from the inky abyss above. It is a rich, thick hue, accented by a slightly lighter, royal blue brushed upon each of his clawed feet. On his belly, the black-blue fades into a slightly dark sapphire, which lightly trails down the insides of his legs to disappear at his knees. Cerulean stretches between each of his wingjoints, adorning his sails with that lighter form of blue. A dusting of bright azure flecks can be found in his hide, but only if you look closely enough. Overall, he is a healthy blue dragon, with a well-shaped face that tells of his intellect.
Personality: Intelligent eyes regard you as you stare up at this blue dragon, and though his color is hardly known for their mental prowess, he is far from stupid. Reinth is cool and calm, a hard worker when it counts but laid back all the same. He enjoys hard labor and working countless drills, and just like his rider, is never really content unless he knows he has done a good day’s effort. He feels most alive when his muscles are put to the test and his resolve is pushed to the breaking point. Reinth always applies himself completely to a task, whether it be something as simple as carrying goods for his rider or something as vital as Thread drills. He is purely devoted to doing his best. Although, even the most enthusiastic of laborers know there is a time and place for everything, and he certainly does make time for other activities besides work. The blue enjoys going hunting with his rider in the woods, but rather than trying to sneak up on his prey (which is rather difficult for a hulking brute) he prefers to crash his forelegs down and roar like a thundercloud. H’seo hardly misses with his bow after this.
Besides the most obvious of draconic pleasures, such as swimming and sunning, Reinth also likes to hang with the boys or occasionally he might even gather the courage to approach a green. The blue is very shy when it comes to females, and he is especially backward around the shamelessly amorous greens. He has, however, been cornered by a lady dragon on a rare few occasions, but on all of these said occasions he could do nothing but stutter and rustle his wings until they were ready to fall off. If a gold were to ever speak with him, even if she was just snapping at him to get out of her way, it is likely he would faint on the spot. He has never had any sense with women, and it is likely he never will. The few Flights he has won have put him in the most embarrassing situations on the following mornings, and if dragons could blush, he might be permanently red even now.
One of his better points, though, rests in his completely laid-back nature. Besides getting ruffled by the rare green, Reinth never gets worked up over anything. In his mind, you do your job, and if something goes wrong, you fix it. Simple as that. He has even allowed himself to be influenced so far by his rider that he draws out his words, resulting in a slow drawl for a mindvoice that mimics H’seo’s. It’s cute, if nothing else. He takes insults without real anger, and pretty much lets things just slide off him. The way he sees it, if you are talking about him, you are giving someone else a break. The blue is just a plain, simple dragon with an amiable attitude and no ambition outside of just doing his best. He, like H’seo, is just a ‘good old boy’, but don’t think that means he never manages to find some mischief to get into every now and then.
History: When Reinth broke from his shell and was first welcomed into the world of the light, he felt an overwhelming hunger, yet more pressing still was the wave of loneliness that washed over him. He was all alone—the blue was all alone now and he needed someone, a partner he could face life with. He stumbled forward, aware that bronzes and browns and greens all milled about him, squealing and squawking noisily as they shoved each other aside in the frenzy to find their lifemate. Well, he wanted none of that. A bronze shoved past him, causing him to stumble to the side. Reinth let out a small whine, no more than a quiet mew like a feline would make. Easy brother. He thought silently, sure to keep his feelings to himself. He did not want to cause any trouble, after all, and something so small was not worth getting angry about. Managing to avoid the rest of the hatchlings, he staggered to the waiting candidates, watching as many of the other dragonets found Theirs and walked away. The blue wanted to find His.
Making his way carefully along the line of waiting humans, the little hatchling brushed lightly over each of their minds, trying to find that telling pull he would feel when he found his rider. All of the candidates were very nice, but they were surely destined for other colors. Strong-willed men belonged to the bronzes, and the loyal, stout boys to the browns. And, to even consider taking a boy or girl with that type of amorousness…he could not even speculate. Finally, after what was surely an eternity, his mind met that of Haseo, and the two plunged together like rocks in water. Adoring rainbow eyes lifted to meet good-humored grey, and a smile spread across the boy’s face just as the little blue grinned mentally. H’seo, I am Reinth, and I am Yours. He said softly, humming lowly in his throat with happiness.
“Reinth…” The boy repeated, his voice a slow drawl, then he shouted the blue’s name for all to hear. He could feel the dragonet’s presence slowly bleed into his own, a certain feeling of completeness settling over him like a comfortable mantle. He could feel everything the dragon felt, and what he felt most strongly of all was hunger. Now that the loneliness had been banished, he had but one desire left: to be fed. H’seo led him out of the cavern.
After they were assigned to a weyrling class, it was not long before everyone agreed that Reinth and H’seo were surely one of the most well-matched pairs in the history of Telgar. Both man and dragon were easy-going, good-natured, and hard workers. They loved to be put to the test, and were generally very dogged about doing their jobs well as could be expected. The blue, however, had absolutely no sense at all when it came to women, so the greens usually found him to be rather boring and shy. He had enough friends, however, and when he graduated and was assigned to a wing, he was welcomed warmly for his work ethic and overall good temper. He gets along plenty well with his wingmates, and has no quarrels with other dragons. Life, as his rider says, is good.
