Character Info:
Name: Raelwyn (Ray-el-win)
Age: 28 (1027)
Gender: Female
Rank: Senior Weyrwoman
Location Telgar Weyr
Family:
Grandfather: G'tor, rider of bronze Beornath (Deceased) In life, G'tor was a tall, strong, striking man with a commanding air. It is no wonder he rose in rank quickly. Though Raelwyn never knew this man, there is more of the bronzerider in her than many would think. Several of his stout qualities, including his determination, was passed down to the weyrwoman. Rael never knew him, though.
Father: G’dim, rider of brown Warenath (52) He is tall and dark, blessed with a handsome face that seems chiseled and hard. He is a quick-tempered man, but nevertheless is considered a good rider and has a respectable standing with the riders about him. His green eyes are accented by graying black hair and dark skin. He is, however, proud of his daughter's Impression to a gold, and is happy to see her realize her dream.
Mother: Kami, Headwoman's Assistant (48) She is short, but her presence is a forceful one, and it does not take you long to figure out where her daughter received her strong will. She possesses a passionate soul and fiery temper. Light blonde hair, short and spiky, is a touch lighter than Rael’s, with blue eyes that are so sharp they could spear a fish. She, unlike everyone else in the family, wasn't surprised in the slightest when her girl Impressed her little queen. She knew Raelwyn was made of tough stuff.
Brother: K’dim, rider of brown Zerith (31) He has his mother’s eyes and hair, but his personality is all G’dim. His temper rises to the surface faster than you can spit, but all the same he can be a pleasant and likable person. He has never been close to his sister, so they do not know much about each other. It did surprise him, however, to one day have to answer to his 'baby sister' as a queenrider.
Sister: Koulvi, Creche Nanny (25) Nearly a twin to Seara, she has her father’s wavy black hair and her mother’s piercing blue eyes. She and Seara grew up together with the same foster mother, and so they are closer than weyrbred siblings usually are. She has Kami’s strong spirit, but is a far more laid-back woman. She liked Rael as they grew, but never spent much time with the goldrider since she was Searched quickly. She is however, extremely jealous of her sister’s figure, since having children has ruined her flat stomach.
Sister: Seara, Creche Nanny (24) Only born a turn after Koulvi, she also has her father’s wavy black hair and her mother’s piercing blue eyes. Like her sister, she inherited her mother’s strong will but her father’s biting temper. Like her almost-twin, she liked Rael well enough, yet they are not close.
Brother: G’mir, rider of blue Ulrith. (19) He is an interesting boy, surely enough, considering his red hair and striking green eyes have stunned both of his parents. The eyes they understand, but neither of their parents had red hair.... Aside from that, he is a laid-back guy with a ‘just let it go’ attitude. He never really got to know his sister as they grew, but he does have a sort of 'hero worship' attitude towards the Weyrwoman. Raelwyn has endeavored to spend time with him, since he requested to get to know her, but her duties keep her too busy to be able to know him well.
Appearance: It has long been said by more than one person that Raelwyn’s best feature is her eyes-a gaze that could melt a Bitran’s heart. Her bright, liquid orbs stare from oval-shaped eyes, surrounded by a fringe of long lashes black as coal. Her irises are the most gorgeous, deep emerald one has ever seen, the color of a rich forest. They are clear and open, yet unfathomable and infinite. The Weyrwoman's face is delicate, unlike the rest of her, with a gentle, small chin and petite nose. She is more cute than truly beautiful, and the only thing really striking about her is her eyes. Her face is framed by long, honey-blonde hair that reaches just beneath her shoulder-blades when left loose, with a just enough of a wave to it that it curls very gently. She does like her hair. Rael ties it up into a messy bun when flying or working, but for formal events and restful times she keeps it down.
As far as her body goes, she is a lithe but well-built woman, and though she is far from heavy or robust, she does have enough weight on her not to be too delicate. At the unimpressive height of 5’4”, Raelwyn has to keep a commanding presence or none will take her seriously. Her figure is not what one would call willowy, but she is built nimble, almost like a feline. Certainly, she may have subtle curves, but she isn't going to attract 'hordes' of attention for her great body, either. Her arms and legs are petite, but working for turns with her beloved gold has strengthened her limbs to the point where her appearance is deceiving. She may look lithe, but she is tough enough to care for a Queen, so do not underestimate her. It is not to say that she is muscular, because she's not, but she is stronger than you would think.
There is not an ounce of fat on the Weyrwoman, so her stomach is smooth and completely flat, the envy of her sisters who have already given birth. Aeriath has kept the woman on the move, so she is trim and fit. Her skin is a golden brown, since Raelwyn has spent her life outdoors, though not as tanned as some riders. She holds herself with dignity, but not really pride, so although you get the idea that she is a very confident person, one would never assume by her appearance that she is an arrogant individual. The goldrider has her own amount of vanity, so her clothes are always meticulously clean and pressed to fall just so-so. She loves skirts, and though she cannot wear them often running around with her queen all the time, Rael wears them whenever possible.
For a woman who has toiled her whole life and worked hard for what she wants, the queenrider looks great, considering. She has a good complexion, really, with only a sprinkling of freckles along her nose and cheeks that do not stand out unless you are close. Her face is unmarked by scars, and there are only two noticeable ones on her whole body. One rests on her left hand, a shiny white line that runs diagonally from her middle knuckle to her wrist. She was cutting some tubers when a few errant children ran through the kitchen, and the last one rammed into her full-throttle and caused the knife to slip. The other is on her ankle, also the left side, on the inside of her leg. It is five inches long, pearly white, and ridged. Rael doesn’t remember how she earned it. Naturally, she has many other small marks from candidacy and weyrling training, but they are not easily discernable.
Personality: The first thing anyone notices about this goldrider is her confident presence. As a candidate, Raelwyn was always very sure of herself, but after Impressing Aeriath and becoming Weyrwoman, she was introduced into a completely new world where strong belief in her and her gold was crucial. She is has grown into a secure and self-assured woman, and once she sets her mind to something, she does it. Rael is not exactly arrogant or self-righteous; she just has concrete faith in her own abilities as well as her queen's. She is also slightly stubborn, and once something is a certain way in her mind, there is no changing it. I'm sorry, did I say slightly? I meant she is voraciously stubborn and though it may not happen all the time, when an idea she wants nestles in here head there is NO getting it out. It is hard to argue with this goldrider when she really has set her heart on something, and it is generally a losing battle.
That is not to say she will not listen where the affairs of the weyr are concerned. That would make her a terrible leader otherwise, and that was not what her senior intended for her protégé. Her elder goldrider was wise, and one lesson is always at the front of her mind. Listen to your underlings, girl. They know this Weyr inside and out. It is YOUR weyr, YOUR decisions, and don't let anyone tell you different, hon, but they are the blood of this place. You are the brain, and the dragons are the heart. Listen to their council, and then you will know what is best. And so Raelwyn understands the need for their input, and welcomes it. As long as they seem to know what they are talking about, anyway. She will listen to her headwoman, and craftmasters, and also her Weyrleader (on the matters of fighting wings) and take their advice utterly seriously.
Intelligent from an early age, it is no wonder she was Searched. Raelwyn has a quick mind that processes things rapidly, and it is easy for her to commit information to memory. The goldrider hardly ever forgets a name, and she has dozens of record skins and information memorized. A very sharp mind resides in this lithe woman, and anyone around her would do best to remember it. However, she is not always logical, and just because she is very clever doesn’t mean she is always reasonable. She has a good head on her shoulders, but sometimes she can leap without looking. Rael does have a tendency to respond to situations with her emotions first and logic second, but she has good intuition when it comes to weyr circumstances. Following her gut has never lead her wrong before, but we will see if ill comes of it in the future.
As Weyrwoman, she now also understands it is not possible to please everyone, and so she is very good at keeping her personal feelings hidden when need be. Though her emotions may be vulnerable, and Raelwyn has been hurt before, being a Weyrwoman she cannot show it. You will always assume her to be completely confident. She does have a compassionate side, and if you grow close enough to her you will perhaps eventually see it, but otherwise you will never really see any weakness from her. She has grown to understand the need for a hard shell, as she is criticized by many. Especially on the matter of Aeriath's inability to clutch a queen egg. That is a sore spot for both woman and dragon, and I wouldn't mention it if I was you. But she is approachable enough, however, so do not be dissuaded from sitting with her in the weyrhall if she isn’t busy. She enjoys talking with her fellow riders.
But we all have our dark side, don't we? Aside from being emotionally vulnerable and impulsive, Rael also has a temper. She does not easily get mad, but she does get irritated frequently and quickly. The goldrider has several odd pet peeves that grate on her nerves swiftly, such as seeing someone talk with food in their mouth or fidget when they want to speak with her. She also tends to get annoyed if something she planned does not go the way she envisioned, or gets interrupted. Raelwyn’s true anger does not come out often at all, however. It takes quite a bit to get her mad instead of simply irritated.
Do not be mistaken, though, Raelwyn can be a very likable person when possible, such as at Hatching Feasts and Gathers. Though her duties keep her busy, when she chooses to be she is rather charismatic, and inspires belief in her words. That is to say, when she likes, she can turn on the charm. It is an important quality of her, actually, because in order to lead, you HAVE to make people want to follow. The goldrider isn't always the easiest person to talk to, though. It is hard to juggle being open and guarded at the same time, so more often than not she could be considered standoffish. She is 'nice', but being friendly is a different league from nice. Rael used to be open and cheerful constantly as a candidate, but duty and decorum have changed that to mostly polite. To her Senior and her closest friends, she can let that drop, but until you enter her trusted ring she will continue to be 'nice' but 'professional'. Although, those under her tutelage are exempted from that a bit. Raelwyn can see herself in the gold candidates and the weyrlings she has instructed, so they bring out more of her compassion than others.
She wants what is best for her beloved Weyrs, more than anything, and so took the teachings of her Senior very seriously and worked to commit everything she could to memory. Raelwyn isn't exactly driven to be the absolute perfect Weyrwoman herself, she just wants her Weyr to be as perfect as possible. Happy dragons, and talented riders to fill the skies. The goldrider is content with this life, and so does what she can realize this dream. It makes her happy.
History: G’dim, rider at High Reaches Weyr, was a man in good standing with his wing, though he allowed his temper to run with him at times, and was your rather average brownrider. He was a wingsecond, and enjoyed his position and his responsibilities. He had never been attached to a certain female, either, and his brown tended to enjoy flying many different greens. However, the first time he caught sight of Kami in the weyrhall, that certainly changed. She was beautiful and as hot-tempered as he, and through several sevendays of wooing, he managed to win her over. The drudge, an assistant to the headwoman, was stubborn and determined, and though she was a servant she was tough. G'dim may have been in Flights because of his brown, but he only had eyes for Kami. Though their tempers clashed at times, they were happy together, and had several children, Raelwyn among them.
Raelwyn grew up as many weyrbrats do, playing small pranks here and there and just enjoying her childhood with her friends. As she grew older, of course, her mother put her to work in the weyrhall and kitchens, and that was something she did not enjoy. The girl was not afraid of hard work, mind you, but she was far too driven to spend her days being content to work as a drudge. Her mother knew this, though Kami never spoke of it. She wasn't surprised in the slightest at the events which followed.
Chosen for candidacy at an early age, Rael leapt into her studies with vigor. She adored her father's brown more than anything, and wanted a dragon of her own with all she had. Her instructors were pleased with her willingness to learn, and it did not take long before her sharp mind began to show. Raelwyn memorized information admirably quickly, and she was a brilliant student. Chores were a dull necessity, but during lessons she excelled. Finally, after turns of waiting, at the age of nineteen the girl stood at Aeriath's hatching, and met her destiny.
Her queen was strong and willful, but Raelwyn was stubborn too, and they passed through weyrlinghood well. She learned about the weyr, what her duties were, and how to care for her gold, herself, her Weyrleader, and everyone in her Weyr. It was going to be an intense life of duty, but she was ready. Under the tuteledge of her Senior, she grew into a excellent Junior Weyrwoman, and generally had the good favor of all in High Reaches. Her gold has risen in Flight several times, of course, and her clutches have grown steadily each time. However, she has never managed to clutch a queen egg.
During the epidemic, the goldrider worked hard to keep her weyr in order, doing everything she could to aid the Weyrleaders keep sanity in High Reaches. Now that it is apparently gone, Raelwyn rests easier. She can never forget the things she saw, however. It will forever be in her mind.
Rael never really worried herself with 'weyr politics', especially concerning their state with other weyrs, but now they are affecting her more than anyone. With the recent conclave deciding to transfer the juniors, she has been uprooted from the Weyr she has known her entire life. She was close to her bronzeriders at High Reaches, and she looked up to her Senior almost like a mother. But it is not her say, and so Raelwyn and Aeriath moved to Telgar. Her birth weyr is not on the best of terms with Telgar, oh no, and so only time will tell how her new Weyr will react to her. The fact that her gold has failed to lay a queen egg is not lost either. Adeloth is a beauty of a gold, known for laying the largest clutches many has ever seen, and Raelwyn doubts they will be pleased for Aeriath to take her place.
Especially as Senior Weyrwoman of Telgar.
But Raelwyn is not concerned with how pleased they are going to be. She questions the wisdom of being sent to Telgar, but she is confident in her ability to lead well. She knows a working weyr like the back of her scarred left hand, but under her shell and in her heart of hearts she knows it is going to take some work to get them to trust her. But they will, for the queenrider is stubborn as a draybeast and they are not going to hold out against her long. She is their Senior Weyrwoman now, and if they have hard feelings about her birth-weyr, they are going to have to get over it. Perhaps a little less than pleased herself with being forced to Telgar, Raelwyn and Aeriath know their duty and will perform it, but that doesn't mean they have to be thrilled about it.

Dragon Info:
Name: Aeriath (Air-ee-ath)
Age: 9
Color: Gold
Appearance: Aeriath is an absolutely gorgeous dragon and she knows it. Her proportions are utterly perfect for her color, and coupled with her sleek head and carved wings, she turns all heads. Though not the largest queen on Pern, this lovely gold lands right in the middle, neither bigger nor smaller. Her size is rather normal for her age, but she is happy with how well-built she is.
Her color is not exactly a true gold, but more of a sunny, bright gold that is the color of early rays in the sky. Her hide does not gleam vibrantly in the sun as the darker queens do, but rather shimmers with almost iridescence. Aeriath's face is sprinkled with a lighter white-gold, and the same pale color graces her wingsails. Her belly and underside of her tail are a darker sheen, as are the insides of her legs.
Personality: Even more hard-willed and confident than her rider, Aeriath has several good qualities of a leader. Self-assured and strong-minded, she leads without hesitation, takes control of a situation without question. She knows that she is queen of her weyr, and as such she is to be obeyed. She generally simply surveys the goings-on around her mildly, yet when something happens she does not like, do not expect her to be silent. The gold will let anyone know very quickly that she is not pleased with something, and she expects it to be changed faster than immediately. She is a queen dragon through and through, and very imperious.
Yet like alllll queen dragons, Ari absolutely loves to be complimented. If you want to get on her good side, speak of her graceful face or her shimmering hide, or comment on her lovely proportions. The gold thinks she is simply beautiful, and will believe any comment sent her way, no matter how extravagant. She will even overlook something that displeased her if you give this dragon enough compliments. Aeriath is especially fond of compliments from bronzes, and they can win her favor quickly if they are attentative to her.
Aeriath is stubborn and tough, yes, but she gets bored easily with her rider’s studious habits. She is not too interested in the state of the weryhall kitchens, or how many herdbeasts they are going to need to feed she and her fellow dragons this month. The queen is good with helping her rider plan things, but they have to do it quickly or Ari will lose interest before long. She loves Raelwyn more than anything, and is very affectionate, but she still can’t be held long by mundane scheduling and plans. She would rather swim or sun…or flirt with some bronzes. That is fun too.
History: The queen egg had been rocking since the beginning of the hatching. Four other smaller, mottled eggs broke open almost simultaneously, and the lower colors took the attention of the crowd. However, the little gold was not going to allow anyone to look away from her for even a second, and her shell burst with a resounding CRACK. Shaking herself to rid her body of the sticky fluids and bits of egg, the queen raised her head imperiously and surveyed the grounds.
She noted happily that everyone was now staring at her, and was pleased. Striding forward as gracefully as a new dragonet could (so, not at all) Aeriath came before the waiting girls. Her girls. Almost immediately, she knew which one would be Hers, and rushed forward on unsteady feet. She may have accidentally hurt a couple of girls in her frenzy to get to her chosen, but they would live. The little queen lifted her head to stare straight into green eyes, and began to croon lowly. Raelwyn, Mine, your Aeriath is hungry and sticky. But still beautiful, am I not?
Weyrling training was uneventful and boring to her, and though Aeriath did well under the tutelage of her Senior gold, she enjoyed the attentions of her bronze brothers more. She was immensely pleased with herself upon graduation as Junior queen, and loved spending her time getting to be fawned over by others. However, she was very displeased with her transfer to Telgar, and had no problem being vocal about it. Ari liked her bronzes at High Reaches, and she doubts the Telgar ones can be as handsome and nice as they. They will obey her, of course, for she is their Senior queen. But they had also better compliment her.
