A break in her schedule was much needed. What with chores and helping her mother with the Weyrbrats, Kesstriel was glad to have a few moments to herself. The brightness of mid-day didn't do much for the cold air of Telgar Weyr, but Kess didn't mind. This had been her home since she was born, she knew it like the back of her hand, and couldn't imagine living somewhere else.
Taking full advantage of this small amount of free time, Kess made her way down the lawn of the lake to watch the dragons bathe. It was something she enjoyed doing, actually watching the dragons do anything was a favorite past time of hers.
Once she hit the flat bank she took a seat against a rock. She settled in and enjoyed the view. The sun was glinting off the moving water, the dragons made pleasant rumblings as they splashed in the cool waves.

Jeyna did not like the cold weather. At least not outside of the comfort of her weyr with Amneris to warm her--and of course she returned the favor. Perhaps she was getting older and was actually beginning to find the cold more uncomfortable than she once did--though she would vehemently refuse to believe anything of the sort. No, she stuck to the story that it was because she and Amneris could not skinny dip as much, or that she had to wear layers to go running in the morning--which she did unless Amneris convinced her to stay in bed.
Most dragons did not spend as much time playing in the water either, though they were able to deal with the cold and the water far better than their riders were.
Ragoth, however, made sure to complain about it the whole time.
Finish so I can go lie in the sun! This is cold.
Jeyna rolled her eyes, "And you need oiled so that the cold water and the lying in the sun doesn't cause your skin to get itchy. Now stop complaining and let me finish, you great beast." She grinned as she rubbed at a favorite spot of his behind the foreleg as she spoke and then resumed scrubbing him.
"Besides, it could have been worse... our wing schedule could have made baths a morning activity. So don't complain."
He grumbled half heartedly, which caused her to laugh, "All right, all right, out of the water and onto the rocks. Let's get you oiled so you can go laze in what sun there is to be had."

The cold air stung her lungs and made her breath into puffs of steam. She loved the feeling. It made her feel alive. She stretched her arms out in front of her and curled her knees to her chest. Silver eyes fell a brilliant looking blue dragon. His gorgeous hide glistened with water in the sunlight.
Her mouth twisted into a smile as she watched as his rider bathed him. Taking care of a dragon was all encompassing and Kesstriel felt that belonging to a dragon was an honor higher then anything. She wrapped her arms around her legs and rocked back. They seemed content with each other. The dragon needing his rider, his rider tending to him. A relationship like that was daunting and scary, but exciting.
For now however Kess was to be content with her chores, and tending after weyrbrats. She rose to her feel at gave a good look at the pair, rider and dragon, a brilliant match, based on site alone

A very large, very bronze head dropped down next to Kess, Caidenth rumbled as if to say 'what in the world are you doing?' Even without words, the dragon's expression was nearly human; certainly it was understandable to any who had grown up in a Weyr. The bronze was more of a copper shade in the sunlight than could be considered a true bronze and he regarded the candidate with amused, whirling blue eyes.
Not more than two steps behind the huge beast, E'riol, clad in a thick riding jacket came up along Caidenth's other side. He thumped the dragon's shoulder. "Stop scaring the Candidates." The bronze swung his head to regard his rider with no small amount of entertained affection. Why, you always do.
E'riol grinned and thumped his bronze again, then peered around the dragon's chest to look at Kesstriel. His gray eyes were unusually merry, he hadn't had to deal with any errant riders yet this morning and that always was an unlikely, if appreciated, blessing. "Ah, good morning Kesstriel."

Her eyes scanned the rider meticulously, watching and making mental notes of how she did things. Her mind was focused on the task being completed. So much so, that she didn't hear the dragon behind her until the low rumble reached her ears. She turned to see a large bronze colored head looking her in the eye, whirling blue eyes met her steely silver. She gave a holler and fell to a heap on the cold ground. She had been taken completely off guard. Nice one Kess, way to miss the DRAGON sneaking up behind you... some observer you are... Her groans turned to a howl of laughter.
She stood and dusted herself off and turned to the face E'riol and Caidenth. She cracked a large smile and stifled her laughter. Ah, good morning Kesstriel E'riol's melting voice greeted her. "A good morning to you as well Wingleader." She smiled warmly, "I trust you both are well." She flashed a smile at the dragon then looked back up at E'riol.

The Wingleader nodded, amusement clearly evident on his face for once. He walked around Caidenth's chest and the bronze padded forward to wade into the icy water. It was a good thing dragons never tended to mind cold. E'riol watched the bronze as Caidenth neatly picked his way foward, must be because they went between so often. He looked back at Kess and inclined his head.
"Yes thank you, very well. My apologies for Caidenth giving you such a start. And you, Candidate?" He sat down on the shoreline watching his dragon play in the water and nearly shivered. How could they stand it? The bronze's head popped up out of the water, only forehead and whirling eyes visible. At least Caidenth seemed to be enjoying the morning's weather. But then, the bronze nearly enjoyed everything.
It is not that cold. E'riol raised his head to grin at the bronze. "It is far too cold for me, my dear. " Caidenth snorted, sending a rush of bubbles upwards and sucked underwater again. E'riol shook his head, if only people were more like dragons.

"I'm well thank you." Her voice was quiet was she took a seat on the ground beside the Wingleader. It was cold through her pant and send a quick shiver up her spine. Her eyes scanned the water and she watched as the Bronze playfully made his way into the water.
She stared for what seemed like a long time before speaking agian. She had been pondering exactly how to put this question. "E'riol, can I ask you something?" Her voice was pensive.

Crossing his arms across his legs, E'riol remained where he was. As Caidenth enjoyed the water his mind wandered, planning and strategizing as usual. When Kess finally spoke again it nearly startled him out of his reverie. He nodded succinctly, still watching his bronze. "Of course."
What in the world could the Candidate want with a statement like that, wouldn't it be better to just ask? What was the point of asking to ask a question anyway. E'riol's mind began to wander again and he pushed a lock of shaggy hair out of his eyes as he thought.
His mind switched patterns again as he saw Caidenth leap up and out of the water before slamming back down. It was rather a good thing the bronze was far enough away that he didn't soak his rider. The water was as cold as between and the Wingleader did not fancy getting sick just now. The bronze, as usual was rather joyfully oblivious.

She curled her knees to her chest and crossed her arms around them. She scanned the beach around her, picking out changes of color in the sand. This question had been weighing on her mind since her young cousin left for training. It just seemed different to her. Why would they send the young wyerbrats away when they would be needed here.
She perced her lips before deciding to dive in. "I've been thinking about the wyerbrats since they left. I don't think Iaslia is where they tell me she is, I don't know why I question it. I just kind of know it." She curled more into her knees. She didn't want to question the Wingleader, but she figured he of all people would know where his daughter was. Though she doubted she would get an answer she figured it was at least worth a good try.

Not nearly a good Pokirr player by any standards, E'riol swung his head to look at Kess, gray eyes wide. He recovered after a moment and sighed, running a hand through his hair again. How could she know that? Well, she'd spent a lifetime with Iaslia and he barely knew her. So, he supposed, it would not be unreasonable to suppose that family as close as those two were, would have some inclination of the others whereabouts. Twins were supposed to function that way, or at least so he had heard.
"She is safe and training. They picked out a few who had some... different potential. I'm sure you know they sent several children." That was really as much as he wanted or could say, at least until the group returned. And if he tracked time right, which he tended to, that couldn't be too far off. He turned his head back to Caidenth who had stopped his sporting at the sudden change of attitude in his rider to look back at the pair of humans on the shoreline.
"Don't worry about them. They're all fine." It wasn't that the Wingleader meant to be cryptic, but then he was more often than not that way. It was just, privileged information, any leaks could put the whole project in jeopardy. He responded once more after a pause. "They should be back in a few weeks anyway."

Kesstriel dug her toes into the sand, sending soft sprays of it across the ground. She noted the bronze looking this way. She smiled softly, he had probably caught E'riol's response to her question.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to pry." She paused for a moment, "I was curious that's all." She grinned at him. Sometimes she wondered about things, and the only way to find out really was to ask. What could the harm in asking be? The worst that would happen would be the person being asked doesn't answer. Her mind wandered as her eyes scanned the waters surface.

He sighed very softly as Caidenth went back to his previous sporting around. "Curiosity is not something to apologize for." It was in fact a trait that the Wingleader had in abundance and had often found to his benefit. After all, knowing something was always better than not knowing. Even if the knowing was not pleasant. "Just, remember to ask questions you really want to know the answer to."
He let the sentance drop off his tongue and glanced back out at his bronze once more. Playing, flying, or sleeping, E'riol always found Caidenth impressive, but then he was his rider after all. Others find me impressive.
The Wingleader snorted and shook his head, yes of course they did Caidenth was one of the larger bronzes in the Weyr. Faster too. What do you mean by that Instead of replying, Caidenth went back to blowing bubbles underwater. And at that moment, E'riol was fairly sure that he still rode a Weyrling despite their turns together.

Kess' toes disappeared under the sand. She hugged her knees for a little extra warmth. Fall in the Telgar Weyr was her favorite, cold air was moving in, and it was only going to get colder.
Her eyes followed the Bronze. "He's rather impressive." She noted how large the dragon was, yet so agile. You wouldn't think a creature so big would have the control that Caidenth possessed.

If E'riol was a preening sort of man, he would have at that moment. If there was one way that was gauranteed to get you in good with any rider it was to compliment their dragon. Instead of preening, E'riol simply nodded in agreement.
"They all are, in their own ways. But a big hulk like Cai is hard to miss." The bronze waded out of the water carefully, several feet away from Kess and E'riol. The cold water streamed off his hide and the bronze nearly steamed in the cold air. I would like to sun now. "Well, off to your ledge then my dear."
Caidenth stretched wings, only slightly green at the tips and leaped into the air. Not for the first time, E'riol wondered at the bronze's nearly copper coloring. He was a far different shade from most, it was not a bad thing. Just something one would not necessarily expect. After watching Caidenth sprial upwards toward their ledge, he looked back over to Kess and shrugged. "Hopefully you will Impress a more... bidable dragon. He is alot to handle."
So are you. E'riol smirked slightly and shook his head, such banter always went on between the two of them. At least there was no contest as to who was the louder of the pair. His eyes went distant as he spoke to his bronze. And bigger. Oh yes, much bigger.
