Character
Name:
Enald
Rank:
Lord Holder of Telgar
Gender:
Male
Age:
27(Born 1028)
Family:
Father: Delach, sixty seven, and happily retired. He’s a little bothered that his son hasn’t produced an issue on his wife yet, but there is still time. He’s become gruff in his old age, and sometimes(often) forgets that is son is the one in charge of the Hold. He loves his wife, though he’s been unfaithful in the past.
Mother: Lamica, sixty, gracefully retired. She’s a quiet, obedient woman who rarely thinks for herself, and relied greatly on the headwoman during her tenure as Lady Holder, though no one is quite as good at being a hostess as she is. Retiring has done wonders for her health, and she feels that more
Wife: Leshya, 25, Daughter of Benden’s Bloodline
Leshya’s Children:
Kimlye, newborn, Female
Siblings:
Ulria, 36, married to a Minor Holder in Fort
Teriana, 32, married to a Minor Holder in Crom
Sirish, 31, married to a Minor Holder in Nabol
Leana, 28, married to a Minor Holder in Telgar
Torant, 24, unmarried, being considered as a Lord Holder to a minor hold, technical rank is Heir to Telgar until his brother has a son.
Rishna, 22, married to a Healer
Korenish, 21, deadglow. Employed in the main hold as a cleaner.
Origin: Telgar Hold
Appearance: Enald is attractive- he’s only in his twenties, and hasn’t had a chance to loose any of his intense good looks. Like many Lord Holders he’s attractive, due to generations of selective breeding on the mother’s side for only those very attractive.
He’s tall, six feet at least, with deep blue eyes, and tousled dark brown hair(a few inches long, though not long enough to bother him- he’s been told it makes his face less harsh). His nose is large, and the underside is slightly hooked. His chin is also big, though his lips stay near the average mark. Skin is light, for skin is always covered during Telgar’s winters, though it gets a rosy glow over the summer.
The best clothing is what is commonly accepted as what Lord Holders, and their Heirs were, and so he’s used to it. He doesn’t feel like his clothing is special- after all, it’s what he’s been wearing since he was born. Enjoys lighter colors to keep himself from looking sickly, and browns.
Edit:
After the Sickness that he caught, Enald’s left ear slides from mostly deft, to totally deaf. His left hand also has problems, shaking uncontrollably sometimes, and suffering from minor weakness all of the time. The hand has trouble grasping and holding things as well. He is unable to share with anyone his weakness, and avoids talking about it. Not even Leshya knows.
Sexual Orientation:
Heterosexual
Personality:
A calm and stoic man, he’s aware that his entire life was decided the second he was born- his father’s first son, after four females- but he really doesn’t mind. The life he was born into suits him, and he does his best with it. He’s not the type of man to rebel against the way things have always been. It’s worked for him, and for everyone in his family, so it can’t be that bad.
As a Lord Holder, he sees it as his duty to make sure his people are happy(and prosperous, though that usually walks hand in hand). Men who are known for being unusually cruel are not appointed as Lord Holders in his court, and should one try for major Lordship, he’d do his best to convince the others not to confirm him. He does his best not to overtax, and sometimes, this means making sacrifices. The Weyr doesn’t have an immediate effect on him, and so he has no problem with sending them enough to not be slacking, and yet not really offer anything more. The better supplies are bartered off, and the populace of Telgar prospers a little more- always important.
Now that Leshya has produced a baby daughter, the pair of Holders have something other that the question of Leshya’s fertility to worry about. Instead, the question of parenting has come. Hopefully, he will be a capable father.
Though not selfless, the man doesn’t tend to put himself first- his Hold is first, Leshya and Kimlye, Leana, and then his parents, then himself, and then the rest of his family. After those on the list, who comes next really depends on who needs to be considered.
Though aware that his wife is his mental equal, if not superior, Enald knows that she could never be his physical equal. Hence, he agrees with Telgar Weyr that women should be encouraged not to stand for non-Queen clutches. Queenriding has more to do with mental than physical, and a Queen that is physically challenged can always get someone to help her. Greenriders can’t, though he supposes a few are necessary for the male riding population of the Weyr to be happy.
He has few friends, and even less close confidants. He leaves most of socializing up to his more than capable wife, and since that was what his father did as well, most people don’t comment on it.
Hunting is something that he enjoys, but he doesn’t often partake in it anymore- it’s dangerous, and he isn’t sure his younger brother would be capable of running the Hold at all.
Breeding, and bloodlines are something he’s fairly good at. While he didn’t arrange his own marriage, he did manage his youngest sister’s wedding, betrothal, and dowry, and is currently looking for a very capable woman for his younger brother.
The only one of his siblings he’s very close with is Leana, as she’s the closest in his age, and he put a good deal of pressure to ensure her a hold near his own, and makes sure she appears in his court a good deal. Other than his wife, she’s his closest confidant, and he does his best to look out for her.
Hobbies/Skills:
Like most Lord Holder’s sons, he was given a major task to do while an heir- in this case breeding runners. Not racing runners, as Telgar already has a program in place, trying to get somewhere, but runners that would have a thicker coat in the winter, and a much lighter one in the summer, eat little, and tend to have an easy time maintaining a body heat.
It was more of a refinement than anything, but Enald did a fine job. It’s still his hobby to go see how the program is continuing, but for the most part leaves it up to capable Telgarians, and Beastcrafters.
Pets:
While fairly sure the felines in his study have been there a while, Enald has nothing else that could be even construed as pet
History:
Born the first son after four daughters, Enald was much loved by his parents. He was brought up carefully watched over, though not enough that he ever felt like he was being watched. He got into scraps, fights, and got lost, and even skipped Harper lessons(something he was punished soundly for). Basically an average boy, and though he was Heir-apparent, a second son gave his father the freedom of choice.
At age fifteen, he was confirmed as Heir, and then his life began in earnest. He was given to a steward as an assistant, and worked long hours everyday. His reading, writing, and persuasion skills were stretched, and grew with every hour. He was placed in charge of a selective breeding program, and his time for flirtations with girls were exceedingly restricted(something he still believes was Delach’s way of preventing children born outside of a union), and while he still had little flirtations, it never progressed much past kissing(or so he claims).
At eighteen, he was fostered out to a different hold to get a feel for how they managed things, and to get used to being in a court. The people of Igen treated him differently then those who’d known him since his birth, and he grew used to being a confident, commanding fellow. He kept all of his flirtations there even more distant than at home- Igen had nothing that Telgar needed, and so a match would not be advantageous to either Hold. He made good friends, however, with the Lordship’s second son, and has considered saving him from Spare status, and offering him a post in Telgar. It would be nice to have a friend who has no reason to hold secrets over his head, and he knows that the other man hated Igen with a passion.
At nineteen, nearing his twentieth birthday, he was returned to Telgar, a different man, though in a good way. He was given a position as a steward in his own right, and retook up the reigns on the selective breeding program, approving choices, and offering limits on spending for it as well.
The next few years passed easily, though the search for the perfect bride was started. None of them seemed to work for Delach, as he wanted his son to have a woman who would be perfect. In other words, a woman much like his mother. Quiet, well behaved, not very smart, but pleasant. Good to have on your arm, raising your children, and good in bed.
It didn’t seem like the search was going well(finding the right girl, then a good dowry, as well as other things), and Delach’s health was going down hill. It appeared that he had heart problems, and all of the stress was not doing him well.
Finally a short list was created of girls who passed the examination, and Enald’s father began the process of stepping down. A girl was picked, a date was set, a dowry decided on, and the process of getting to know her began.
Leshya seemed pleasant enough, and Enald was fine with the idea of spending his turns with her. His only shock about her was that she had been with another man before even knowing about her betrothal. The only reason he was able to deal with it was the fact that she’d thought they would be married, and because he had done the same.
It was still a rather large shock for him though, though not as big as the time she beat him at stones. He realized that she was intelligent, and the idea of being with her forever stopped being merely pleasant, and the idea that she might have more surprises made it seem like it would be fun experience. He decided that was when he fell for her later, though at that time it merely felt like he was getting into something good.
They were married, and after a pleasant honeymoon of two months, they were installed as the newest Lord and Lady of Pern, and have been ruling Telgar for about a year now.
Now that the Sickness has struck Telgar twice, Enald has been sick, and Kimlye has been born, many things have changed for Enald. While since it resulted in Kimlye, Enald probably wouldn’t change anything, but he does wish that the sickness didn’t mess up his body so much. However, he can still run his hold, and he still will.
All of these recent changes have simply forced him to become an even better man, and he wishes he could spair his family from his own refining fire.
