Character Information:
Name: Kiaran
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Rank: Igen Assistant Headwoman
Location: Igen
Family:
Father - K'tel, Rider of Brown Earruth, Wing Rider of Namib Wing. He was a younger son of a minor holder in Keroon, and because of the large number of older brothers, he was about to be sent to a crafthold to apprentice when he was searched (and as he sees it rescued). 46 Turns (dragon: 31 turns old).
Mother - Saran, Weyrbred. Drudge who works primarily in serving food at the Weyrhall. Known for her beauty, even now past her prime, and her stability, she is permanently on duty to serve the head table at dinners. While she is more than content to share a bed, she will not go lower than a Brown, and does not like to admit that K'tel is his favorite, though he has made several attempts at making their arrangement permanent. The only children she's kept are from him. Her duties have allowed her to raise the children herself, and even foster a couple of others. 44 Turns.
Siblings:
Brother: - Sr'tel, Rider of Brown Kineth (Wynneth's 6th Clutch). 26 turns (Dragon - 12 turns). (I'm not going to write anything about him so if anyone wants to claim him, he's open)
Sister: - Siatren, Drudge (also open for adoption). 21 turns.
Half-Sister: - Kitya, Drudge. 19 turns. Fostered by Saran despite the fact that she was the product of an attempt by K'tel to make Saran jealous.
Foster Brother: - Lydel, Candidate (also open for adoption). 16 turns.
Children:
None yet. Kiaran is too focused on her personal goals to have children at this point.
Appearance:
Longish light auburn hair falls to just below Kiaran's shoulders. If there is any bit of vanity in the young woman, and there is, it is focused on her hair. She loves the fullness of it and the coloring of it in the sun. Kiaran believes the only bit of her mother's legendary beauty she inherited is her hair.
Her eyes are brown and are set in a cute face. Her face is slightly plump, though she is over all thin, just enough to be healthy and rosey. As the assistant headwoman, she never had to worry about having enough to eat, though she does not over eat. She also does not have to worry about making a point to exercise as her work pretty much keeps her active.
When she's at work, she dresses accordingly. When in the kitchen, she tends to wear loose pants, but a top that short sleeved and tight so as not to be a fire hazard, both in a light color. When supervising other areas, she tends to wear dark clothing - liking burnt oranges and deep teals, which she feels goes well with her light complexion. The clothing was usually slacks and a shirt, as she felt she had more freedom to move about in that kind of clothing.
Personality:
Kiaran has big dreams for herself. And she never saw herself riding a Gold. It wasn't that she didn't think she had the right qualities - she most definitely was a natural leader; she just did not want to pin her future on an egg or another being at all. Instead, she worked her butt off, and proved herself to be a natural leader.
Soon, she was an indispensable aid to the Headwoman, and while she is content to learn from Janesa, she is ambitious enough to assure that when Janesa is no longer able to do the job as Headwoman, Kiaran will be her successor.
She has a lot of respect for Janesa, and though she knows that her superior is paranoid, she has no desire to knock the woman from her position before her time. She knows that she is young yet and has much to learn, and respects the position that Janesa has won for herself.
In her personal life, Kiaran has had a few rendevous with a few riders, but always Bronzers and frequently finds herself on the furs of another woman. She finds her parents' situation amusing, and believes that love can be a reality, wondering when her mother will break down and accept her father's offer. However, for herself, she has no plans to settle down. She wants to make it clear that whatever position she reaches is from her own hard work and worth and not because she happens to be the favorite or even weyrmate of a Ranker. She has decided that once she has proven herself and left no doubt that she will be Janesa's successor, that then she can think more about lasting romance.
History:
Kiartel had been fascinated by life at the Weyr. He was impressed by his Brown Earruth at the young age of 14, after having been at the weyr only 6 months as a Candidate. From what he had gathered, he had been a lucky one, as very few seemed to impress in their first few turns on the sands.
Earruth won his first flight when Kiartel was 17, shocking the young man as he woke with a man. While he has been with men a few times since then - even outside of Flight - he soon found that the young woman Saran, was who he felt most right with.
Saran had been selected for serving duty when the then headwoman noticed that she was quite a pretty young woman at the age of 15. After only a few times on that duty, she was permanently assigned to serving duty, as she was quick and light on her feet, graceful and balanced, and seemed quite deft at making each she served feel like a person of significance. By the time she was 16, she had accepted the advances of a couple of Brown Riders, though she was always careful to avoid pregnancy, or to get a Green Rider friend to take her between if she was afraid the timing had been off.
K'tel had been one of the young Brown Riders whose attention she had caught. By the time she was 17, she was frequently spending time in his weyr, and at 18 turns, she decided not to ask for a ride between. While she would not admit it, she had fallen in love with K'tel as well as he with her.
Two turns after her parents first born, her big brother, was born. Saran again decided to have a child with K'tel, and Kiaran was born 9 months later. K'tel tried to convince Saran to move in with him permanently and become weyrmates, but despite the fact that she did not really have other lovers, Saran refused. K'tel has never given up on trying to convince her, and while both have had other lovers, they are most often found together - though Saran would never spend the night as she chose not to foster her children out and would want to be with the children at night.
Kiaran and her siblings grew up learning that love was real, but questioning the value of commitment. Looking back, Kiaran does not entirely understand her mother's motives, since she was content with her position within the weyr. When she asked her mother, she was informed that while drudges could be allowed to keep their own children and foster other children, Dragon Riders were rarely allowed to, and if she had been weyrmated to her father, she would have had to foster her children out. Kiaran does not fully understand that, since their father was always a very active part of their lives, but that was just how Igen worked. Something Kiaran hoped she'd be able to change when she was Headwoman, since fostering was in her area. She suspects her parents will be together as soon as Lydel moves in fully with the Candidates.
Kiaran got along well with her siblings, and though she was not the oldest, she was often the leader of their little group - which included them and several other children of the same age range. She often came up with games for them to play, and more than once lead them on adventures - which often ended up with her or one of the others sporting minor injuries.
Siartel (now S'rtel) tended to be a calming influence on his exuberant little sister, though that tended to mean that he simply refined her ideas to not loose the adventurousness, but to include a tiny bit of caution to reduce injuries. Kiaran is pretty sure that he's the reason she's still alive.
Of all her injuries, only one left a lasting scar, on her upper thigh of her left leg, where her thigh was impaled on a sharp rock. It missed the artery and major muscle, but left a rather nasty looking scar on her leg.
Like most young women in the weyr, she started being assigned to various duties as a drudge. It soon became clear that she possessed a self-assurance and understanding that caused people to listen to her, and organization skills that made listening to her a smart move. She was soon put in charge of organizing the laundry room and quickly moved up from there when she caught the attention of Janesa, the Headwoman.
She found little ways to make the Headwoman's job easier, handling small disputes that didn't need to be brought to her, making sure she always had fresh klah and juice and that the reports she needed were easy to find. Never trying to take any authority away from her, but making herself absolutely indispensible.
It worked. Now at 23 turns, Kiara is officially the assistant headwoman, with all the authority which comes with that position. However, it was not long before she began to notice Janesa's paranoia, and while she has not let up on her duties at all, she has made attempts to make it known that she is content with her position for the time being. Her main concern was with cementing her own position as Janesa's successor, while she was content, for now, waiting for the older but still young woman to retire.
