Half a turn ago, great tragedy struck Sylvan Weyr.
Sylvan Weyr had always been isolated in the South, protecting a single Hold from Thread while the contact to the Northern Continent grew thinner and thinner until it finally died down. Sylvan Weyr had been flourishing over decades, recovering from a Plague with ease... but when the Red Star showed up above the Starstones for the seventh time since the first settlers arrived, the worst happened.
Sylvan Weyrs Senior Gold went between when her rider died from an infection, leaving the Weyr without a Queen, without any dragon that could clutch. With the Threadfall nearing the prospering Weyr suddenly faced extinction. Their Queen had always been healthy, still young enough to clutch one or two golden daughters... but now she was gone. Wiped from Pern by a simple infection her rider had caught. Sylvan Weyr... seemed doomed. In their despair, Sylvan riders sought for help in their Archive, discovering a number of old documents that told them about the Northern Continent where other Weyrs - not just one - should be. One of them would surely help them out! They wouldn't let a Weyr die! The hold needed their protection, the Weyr had to be strong to face fifty turns of Thread! A party was formed under the Brownrider R'len, a trustworthy man who would be diplomatic enough to explain their situation carefully. They used old maps they had found to start their journey on dragonsback. Without coordinates they could not go between directly but had to fly the whole way up north...
With the hope of their whole Weyr resting on their shoulders, a small group of dragonriders left Sylvan Weyr, seeking help up North, hoping that a Queen would come and settle down in the much warmer Southern cimate.
Two months passed.
R'len had promised to return before the first Thread fell above Slyvan Weyr, promised to return no matter how far they had come but when the silvery rain begun to fall, the Sylvan riders had to face it without the small group of riders, without R'len. Without hope. But Sylvan Weyr was destined for doom. In the midst of the Fall, their old Weyrleader, G'ram died from a heartattack, sending both him and his bronze between to never come back again. The Weyr was in shock, loosing not one but both leaders so shortly after another. A'der, G'rams second, barely managed to keep the wings from breaking apart during the rest of his fall, distracted by yet another odd occurence.
A dragon had appeared out of nowhere. A red dragon. A female dragon, judging by how her slender wings were cutting through the sky, carrying her seemingly effordless towards the line of Thread. Red, yes, but going by her size A'der had hoped for a split second that she was a Queen - send from the Northern Weyrs to save Sylvan, hence her red hide! But the Crimson was not a Queen, she had chewed firestone and A'ders hopes went up in flames like the Thread in front of her. He felt hollow. Lost. He could not weaken the Weyr yet again by sending another group North.
The Weyrleader was dead and R'len probably was too.
Sylvan Weyr was without a Queen, without a Leader. Without hope.
Two Sevendays after her arrival, the Crimson rose to the first flight of her young life growing heavy with eggs after being caught by a brown. Nobody knows what these eggs will bring to Sylvan, nobody can be sure that the Crimson is truely their savior... the new Hatchlings - if the eggs are even alive - could aswell end life as it had been known by Sylvans inhabitants once and for all. Frankly, A'der has not stepped down for the Brownrider who won the Crimson, neither has Theresa been chosen as new Weyrwoman, the question of leadership still open...
