AIVAS; all are familiar with his achievements of bringing higher technologies to holds and weyrs, and ridding the planet of its eldest and most deadly enemy, Thread. A period of peace spanned for 400 turns, spurring dragonmen, holdfolk, and crafters alike to live more settled lifestyles. Multiple weyrs consisting of small populations sprouted up across country sides, while holds and crafthalls increased the size of their borders.
In the past hundred or so turns, new colors of dragons have emerged. Such mutations were weeded out by "the survival of the fittest" is past passes, but with no threat to the present dragon population, colors such as Reds, Blacks, Platinums, Pewters, and so on have emerged. Although rare, these new dragons are a mystery to most. Firelizards and whers have been displaying these genetic differences as well.
But unfortunately, all good things cast a shadow. Crime rates escalated, with dragonmen now serving as guardians and forces of justice. Rebels have already taken down the Lord Holder and his Blood in Southern Hold, choosing to anoint one of their own as leader and ignore the code of tithing to the Weyr. Murderers and thieves, bandits and highwaymen run rampant through the roads of Pern. Dragonriders, once expected to be able to control these troublemakers, are facing too many challenges to take on.
Yet an old threat seems to have returned, throwing the weyrs of Pern in a loop. Aivas has been sending mixed messages, all hinting at the possibility of threadfall's return. Dragonmen and women across Pern have hastily gathered up fighting wings, their worry-creased faces nervously turned towards the sky. Could the Redstar really be a threat again? How could such scattered weyrs protect the entire planet? Weyr leaderships have been meeting in private as of lately, discussing possible ways to make Pern once again a safe place. Will the new mutations be able to fight thread after all? Will Pern once again fight their old-time enemy?
