J'var was staying away from Laszreen now that she had Impressed. It wasn't that he was mad at her, or that now they had been with eachother he tired of her. It was that the temptation was too much. J'var couldn't look at her with out thinking about kissing her, and he didn't want to do that. Not for approximatly two turns, at least. It was better that they just stayed apart, wasn't it? J'var could get Laz in some real trouble by staying around, and he didn't want to do that.
Of course, those grab hands in her Weyrling class would have better access to her. What if one of those brats stole her away in the two turns he kept his distance? What if she was mad at him for staying away and not being stronger? What if Ionuth couldn't catch Elfreth when the time came? Did her Impression make him loose her forever?
This made J'var's eyes move to the great bronze, which by now was falling upon a frightened herd beast. Ionuth was young, powerful, but arrogant. The dragon sank into the beast with ruthless hunger, eating to his content. Now J'var had some doubts about whether or not he could catch Saharth. It had happened the first time and he was sure it could have happened a second time- if only the senior queen didn't up and die like she did. Now Saharth was the only mature queen at Igen, and by catching her would make him the Weyrleader. He was hungry for that power, but there lay some misgivings in his heart.
J'var felt he was too young for that kind of responsibility. He was keeping up with WeyrSecond, though how long this would last, he didn't know. Janesa encouraged him, by saying he could do it. And he agreed, he could probably do it in ten turns. J'var didn't command the majority's respect yet, and he didn't have a lot of experience. It wasn't enough for J'var to just be Weyrleader, he wanted to be a great Weyrleader. His mother tried to perk his interest by muttering that as the mate of Saharth through Ionuth, it should be J'var that was made Weyrleader this time. He mulled over that for a while.
If he could get over that, it was wonderful, but there was just one more thing. J'var hungered for Laszreen. Now that she was a queenrider, he felt loyal to her in a way he was afraid to fly another queen if it wasn't hers. Sharding women and their seductive ways! If he had never met Laszreen, he'd be perfectly happy with being Jenafa's lap dog, and have fewer misgivings about flying other queens. J'var kicked a rock and it tumbled a few inches away from him. He kicked the rock again, and this time it went about a foot. J'var grunted.
Yes, maybe he should get his mind off his addiction, off his Laz, because she only made him worse. And better. But mostly worse. Ionuth took a second beast down then. Maybe what J'var needed was to just focus on butt kissing and his duties. Maybe he needed a fling. Ugh. Women were poisonus to a man!

Elfreth was full of her usual defiance today. Laszreen, as always, was prepared for the battle of wills. Until the two of them had bonded more, she doubted things would be easier. The petite brunette, had followed the Gold to the Feeding Grounds. Elfreth was to put it mildly, a little spoiled. She seemed to be able to eat a whole beast herself already and though it may seem to be a lot, the Gold was growing at a faster rate than her clutchmates, even the Bronzes seemed small compared to her, in Laszreen's eyes.
Now we'll just see if any of the adult dragons will mind hunting something for you... They shouldn't. I am their Queen, they should obey my every whim. Of course but you mustn't let them think you expect it. Otherwise they won't want to do those things, even if they have to. You are very wise, my Laszreen. Only the best, for the best. Laszreen smirked, which caused her features to look more childish than womanly. She was in fact only sixteen though most people seemed to guess her to be older. She figured it was because of her usual demeanor.
Who should they find when they came to the Feeding Grounds but J'var. Laszreen, who wasn't afraid of anything, felt a lump catch in her throat. Perhaps they should come back later but it was too late, he had seen her, at least she was sure he had.
The young woman approached slowly, with her dragonet. "Greetings. I hope all is well with you, Bronzerider J'var, and your Ionuth." She could be the cool courtier still, even if she found it hard to think of being so with him. J'var was probably the only person she had met, other than Elfreth, who understood her and now she had to pretend they knew nothing more about eachother than ranks and dragon names.

Then J'var happened to look over his shoulder, and there stood the bane and reason for his existence. What luck! (However, at this time he could not figure out if it was indeed good or bad) A smile flashed upon his features before dissapearing into mere curtesy. She looked as though she was going to turn away from him, though she didn't. Proper woman, (or girl) she was, probably just trying to make nice all the while she was fuming at him inside.
"Greetings Queenrider," he answered just as cooly, "I assure you that both myself and Ionuth are excellent. Peak of health, really. And might I enquire after yourself?" Of course this was meant to sound as curtesy, but he really was curious. He wished she would tell him she was miserable with out him, and jump him, but he knew she wouldn't. He knew she shouldn't, for the sake of the young gold, at least.
Elfreth, how are you faring? Ionuth said sweetly to the dragonet queen. She was blossoming every day, though it was much too soon for the bronze to woo her. She was just a baby! So the feelings he got from His about Hers was confusing! The fine bronze dunked his head in the water and then shook his mighty head. [/b]The water is refreshing today.[/b]

Laszreen was careful not to let any of her troubling emotions surface right now and thankfully, J'var seemed to have taken the hint. If she were to act like she had strong feelings for him, it would upset Elfreth and who knows what she would do at this age. He would probably not think about it in such a light but she had to.
"Weyrling training has been boring thus far. Elfreth seems to think its a waste of her time since she knows everything..." Laszreen rolled her eyes at the young queen who affectionately nudged her rider. Unfortunately an affectionate nudge from a growing Queen dragonet was more force than a petite Laszreen was ready for and she felt herself get shoved forward. "Elfreth...." She said warningly. The Gold was unapologetic.
"How about you J'var? I know A'stin is retaining leadership until Saharth flies. How have your duties been as Weyrsecond?" It was almost unfortunate that she couldn't ask the questions that really bothered her the most. However, they would start seeing eachother more and more as Elfreth got older because she would be working more and more with Jenafa.
I am hungry. Elfreth said honestly. Then went on to remark, My Laszreen said that we would wait and see if an adult dragon could hunt something for me. I'd really like that... She watched the Bronze dunk his head in the water and wondered if it really did feel that good. She had just had a bath and oiling because Laszreen had insisted that those things come before food. We just came from the Lake. Elfreth added to explain her point of view on the water, as if that statement were all she needed to say. The light Gold dragon was behaving for the most part. Besides Bronzes were always soo nice to her.

J'var smiled a little and snorted, "Yes, weyrling training a bore sometimes. Wait till you get to fly, it makes it all worth it." Of course she wouldn't care about the firestone lessons, if they even went through them at all. And why should they? thread wasn't coming back, so what was the point of firestone other than pyro tricks? He looked at the "small" gold and stifled a chuckle, "At her age, my favorite time was just before bed, when it was just me and Io talking about everything. He was always full of questions and remarks."
"I assist A'stin in anyway I can, really. I fetch him stuff if he needs it, I talk to people for him if he's too busy. I'm getting the hang of it. Also enjoying the privledges, like an allowance, the nice things, stuff you'll be getting, if not already." Of course, there were more rank poachers, though he tried to ignore them. Only other women with rank really held his eye. The one he desired most of all was unattainable. He'd always be comparing them to her, and they would always fail, so what was the point? Maybe, when he got really lonely he would submit, but he never got to the point where he had to have one of them.
Hungry, then? I will get you a nice fat wherry. Would that please you? The bronze was only too happy to hunt for the little gold. The bronze flew over the pens where the feeder animals waited to be plucked off. Ionuth dove towards a flock and took a wherry fluid movements. Before they knew it there was a freshly killed wherry before Elfreth, and Ionuth stood proudly by. J'var snorted a laugh, "Ionuth is very honored to hunt for the queen. "

Laszreen caught on that he was in a good mood and decidedly went along with it. "Oh sure, but thats months away." She said with an impatient sigh. Every Weyrling probably felt the same way she did but her Elfreth didn't get much chance to shine when doing ground drills. The dragon was clumsy at her best and Laszreen knew she was better and would be graceful in the sky, she had to be. She was a dragon. "She isn't one to stay up late, not later than the other Weyrlings. I prefer to think of the answers before she has to ask the question. She is a quick one. Most of the time she comes to her own conclusions before I say anything."
Laszreen was only on a Weyrling's salary at the moment, which even for a Goldrider wasn't as high as what she had been used to before coming to the Weyr. "It is not nearly so much as I will get as a full rider." She hoped. Laszreen was used to a much more padded lifestyle than she had known here. Not that J'var didn't understand that. He himself had a mother and father of means. "I think that after Elfreth learns to fly, we will be moved into a real weyr. The Weyrlingmaster said that Elfreth would be too big for a Barracks by then." Laszreen knew that they were the Weyrlingmaster's pet pair. Friggin Bronzers.
Speaking of which she heard him talking about his duties but made no comment. She knew he would be working hard. Whether he was seeing anyone, well she knew better than to ask him about that. They couldn't bring any of that up and even the thought of anything like it could affect her Gold. A Gold who was currently ignoring her to get what she wanted out of the Bronze.
That would please me greatly.Elfreth was obviously hungry though she did take the time to compliment the Bronze on his hunt. That was well done. Thank you. Some of that was Laszreen's influence some of it was the Queen truly being grateful. "As he should be." Laszreen said in a tone that was reminiscent of her own Gold.
