H'rzet wandered over to his own bunk with a usual smirk on his face. His dark brown curls were shorn even shorter now than they were before. Despite his wicked temperament he was actually a good looking youth. H'rzet was a small man, at about 5'6" in height and he seemed to carry a wiry strength rather than the men who were larger than he was.
The brown sleeping nearby twitched his tail slightly as dawn came upon them. He would wake soon and then it would be feed me time. H'rzet knew better than to feed him straight away but he always brought him a little snack to tide him over till breakfast. Laerth was a challenging brown but with his own, he seemed quite happy.
The nut colored brown, enjoyed his sleep even more than his rider did. It sometimes took quite a bit of energy to get the dragon up. Laerth was certainly a lazy one. Chuckling to himself, H'rzet watched his dragon. Everyone else was too busy with their own dragons to really pay him much mind.

All except A'kere that was. His Nayath had woken him at the crack of dawn, squealing inside his mind about how gorgeous the sunrise was that day, and how he had to get up right then. As Nayath did this both in the morning, and at sunset, A'kere was fast growing used to it, and had stumbled bleary eyed, and watched the punishing sun rise up into the sky. And then Nayath had demanded to be fed, to have her itchy spots oiled, and a quick bath. And then she'd taken a nap, and had told him not to wake up until lessons.
Which was the first time he'd had more than three or four seconds where he wasn't doing anything. And it was then he realized how long it had been since he'd spoken to his friends. Nayath had so effectively become more than a friend, and the only thing he needed, he'd not even realized how much he was with his dragon, and only his dragon. And since he had a least three minutes before he had to wake up Nayath and go to lessons, this was as good a time as any. Making sure his leathers were in order, he wandered over to the Brownrider.
"H'rzet! How've you been?" A'kere asked with the early morning cheer that didn't often appear in his voice.

"Mornin' A'kere." The brownrider stretched his arms out above his head and then looked back at the blonde boy. "Better than ever. Who wouldn't be with a dragon?" On the tip of his tongue was brown but he didn't feel like starting trouble today. Besides one day he would be in more of a position to say those things. Right now he wanted to get through Weyrling training. HE had had enough warnings about his attitude.
"Speaking of dragons, how is your Nayath?" Laerth seemed to not mind greens but they were a nuisance at times. A'kere was a nice enough kid but he certainly got the color dragon that best suited him in H'rzet's opinion. Laerth would agree but the dragon was still asleep. He somehow managed to impress a dragon that liked to sleep even more than he did.
With a smile on his face H'rzet glanced around the Barracks. Some people were moving about but most of them were either gone or still abed. "How annoying is that Goldrider? I mean she tends to be a know it all and then she treats us all as if we are beneath her all the time. It can't help that the Weyrlingmaster adores her..." H'rzet hated Laszreen... with a passion.

Tossing a besotted look behind him to glance at his Nayath, who was making little wuffling sounds that would be called snores in any creature but her. The smile of joy that tugged on A'kere's lips was sincere, and in no way forced. There was nothing better than having a dragon: a Green, to be exact, but it wasn't like H'rzet would understand what he was missing.
"Nayath is perfect." He said brightly, finally turning back to look at his old friend. "And how is your Laerth?" They'd been learning etiquette during some lessons, and A'kere enjoyed the tight formalities they taught. And, enjoyed even more, to follow them.
His happy face froze slightly when H'rzet mentioned Laszreen. It wasn't that he disliked the newest Queenrider, it was just that she scared him. A lot. Jenafa, who'd been the Queenrider he'd best known in his short life was the kind of person he would expect on a Queen; warm, friendly, and strict with those who forgot their place. Laszreen was cold, and focused, like she had no true feelings at all. She creeped him out, but he wasn't about to announce that to the whole barracks. So, the Greenrider sought a polite phrase to hide behind. Not that he could think of any.
"I'm sure it's just the stress of being Queenrider." A'kere stated. It should have been a sympathetic phrase, but it wasn't. It was a phrase that shouted of the boys dislike, or fear of the Queenrider, and it was painfully obvious to any who paid attention to more than the words A'kere spoke.

H'rzet was not the kind of person to say doting things about his dragon. He most certainly wouldn't call him perfect in front of others because then it would be implied that browns were better, not that they weren't, and he would be in trouble again. "Laerth is doing well. He is rather lazy but I too enjoy sleep."
He watched A'kere's reaction with dark brown eyes. H'rzet saw that it was taking him a moment to figure out what to say. It was good to know that he wasn't the only one bothered by the woman. H'rzet knew better than to say anything in front of anyone who would defend her, like Bronzeriders.
"Perhaps but I think she was worse before she impressed. It wouldn't be so bad having her around if she wasn't so far ahead of the rest of us." How H'rzet despised women, especially women who had power over him. His father would understand and his grandfather. All of them were brownriders and none of them knew a single woman who would stick around long enough to care about them. Women were changeable and unsteady. They did things as their emotions would dictate whereas men were easier to understand and they were more steadfast.

"Getting extra sleep would be a plus." A'kere agreed, but knew that in his heart, he preferred being awake and spending time with his Green. Even if she liked to watch every single sunrise, every single morning.
"Maybe more time with her Queen is all she needs, and then she'll relax into her place." A'kere tried again, hoping for H'rzet to drop the subject. If the Brownrider wanted to say anything about the Goldrider, and wanted an honest answer, he could pick a different place to say something about it.
"So, uh, I have to go to lessons." It was inelegant, and dropped heavily from his mouth, but A'kere wanted to be away. And it was a real reason, too. He bounced up, smiled awkwardly, and then jogged over to Nayath, and reawakened her. Pushing the conversation out of his mind, for a while at least, he and Nayath headed out.
