Jenafa opened the door to Shaye's room without knocking. It wasn't like she was going to find the woman sleeping with anyone, and as far as Jen knew, there was no information that was secret from her, so why bother knocking? Besides, she didn't want to miss Shaye jumping up or squeaking at sudden loud noises.
Sticking her head in through the door, she glanced around. "Shaye? Are you in here?" The dark woman was in to discuss her last flight. It hadn't been that satisfactory, but that wasn't what she was there to discuss. She wanted too request more bronzes, but that topic had to be eased into.
No, she was there to see if J'var had to be Weyrsecond. He was barely graduated, and Jen wasn't sure if they could trust him with all of the duties a Weyrsecond had. Of course, she could have talked to A'stin, but talking it over with Shaye first might leave an opening for requesting new bronzes. And Jen worked tirelessly for that goal.

Shaye's head snapped up when she heard her door creak. She refused to work the annoying sound out of it for the sole purpose of people who didn't knock before entering. People like Jenafa. Even with the creaky warning, the senior Weyrwoman almost had a panic attack when the door swung open. She had been perched at her desk doing paperwork, and she nearly knocked over the open inkwell placed in the middle of her papers. The feather pen ended up being held like a throwing knife, as if the pointed tip would do any sort of damage.
Her eyes narrowed when Jen's head poked into her room, and she forced herself to calm down before the other woman saw too much. Taking a deep breath, Shaye settled back into the chair and decided on a grumpy frown. "Yes, of course I'm here," she snapped at the dark woman, not bothering to get up to greet her. There was no fondness between them, and Shaye didn't care to pretend. Jen knew how she felt about most things, so why bother to hide it.
Sending a pointed glare to the other, her eyes slipped back down to the record she had been updating. It was something incredibly boring like how much weight on average past weyrlings had eaten. She was going to calculate how much they might need for Saharth's upcoming clutch based on her previous clutches. Horrible work, but it was better than...talking to people. Careful to keep an eye on the other in case she decided to many any other quick movements, she dipped the end of the pen in ink and started scratching away again.

Though she knew that most people would assume that she and Shaye had never been close, they had, once a long time ago. If she was being honest, Jen would have revealed that she had liked that better. If only Shaye could see outside of her own Weyr, then maybe they could be close again. Not that it was likely to happen anytime soon. Or ever, if Jen was being honest still.
"You know, you're being predictable." Jen didn't add to that statement, but the little risk for the pleasure of seeing Shaye squirm was worth it. "Anyway, I've had a flight, and we have a new Weyrsecond- barely, of course. We almost had a Weyrleader who was also a Weyrsecond. Would have been interesting, right?"
Waiting for Shaye's reaction, Jen looked at the light haired and skinned woman carefully, gauging each reaction carefully. The Goldrider didn't want to miss anything, any flicker of an eyelid that might help her achieve her goal.
