Janesa had kept Kia rather busy for the last few weeks. She had, not surprisingly, missed the hatching as she was directing the preparations for the feast, though her own precious firelizard had communicated the distress of Lara's Brown. She was, however, not able to get to her friend, and only discovered the extent of her injuries and that she had survived later.
Kia chalked the insane busy-ness up to Janesa's paranoia - figuring this was another attempt to cause the young woman to either fail or quit. As normal, the young woman managed to live up to the task, but she collapsed at the end of each night. Her social life had completely suffered, and while Kia was never a partier, she did like to spend time with friends, and she'd barely even had time for her sister Kitya.
She finally got time to take a meal with the others, rather than having to grab something to eat on the run and was gladly sitting at the Weyrfolk table, just glad to relax and be around people - without having to direct some chore or another or up to her elbows in her own work.

Kitya saw her sister sitting there and moved to be by Kiaran. They hadn't talked lately, and while at first it bothered Kitya, she found someone else to distract her. The hatching was a busy time for her too. Then the stress of standing got to her. She was secretly afraid to do that. She didn't want to be mauled or killed. A green dragon might be ecstacy but a gold was way too much for her to handle. Of course the dragon would know this, and what if the gold was unhappy with her and attacked her? It had happened before to worthier girls. The last few days before the hatching Kitya had spend a lot of time to herself.
As it turned out, she was not killed or attacked by the dragonet. She was not picked, either, just left there to fend for herself. Of course, the fact that Larissa was struck down next one girl over from her made her a little shaky. When she had gone down to check on Larissa that day, she had met some one to quell her fears, a healer boy named Herabin. Then she had been spending every waking moment with that boy. Naturally, a flighty and, yes, a little airheaded, Kitya figured it was love. . . Again.
Kitya was always a more deluded sort, falling in love with the drop of a hat or a sensual glance. Her idea of romance and sex and intamacy was different, and some times silly. But still, she could hardly keep her secret any more and was very thankful she had found her sister. Kia would understand, she had to. "Hello there, Kia, how's it going?"

"Kit!" Kia grinned. Her sister and she might be completely different from each other, but that did not mean that Kia did not adore her baby sister. "Just been busy. I think Janesa had another paranoia attack." She shrugged. She had come to accept that her boss would not realize that Kia was not looking to take her position prematurely until the older woman eventually retired. And even then she probably would not.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there to see you on the stands. I had been assigned to preparing the feast." She also knew that her little sister did not really want to stand.
"So, enough about me. How have you been?" She hugged her sister briefly and then offered her blue flit a bit of meat. "What have you been up to?"

Kitya smiled when Kiaran greeted her, yes it was a good idea to talk to Kia first. Kia would understand and support her, like always, like their mother. Kitya knew all about Janesa and her jealous tendancies from Kiaran, and was thankful she didn't have to be any one's assistant. Kitya smiled, "Oh, that's okay, I can understand. There wasn't much to watch."
Well, that was a lie. The gold dragonet certainly made things interesting, little Elfreth had brought good and bad. Kitya had wished that she had excuse not to be there, if it could save her from the blood she'd never get clean from her hands. Every one said that a queen was naturally vicious like that. Saharth had been before Elfreth, and she assumed they all mauled. Still, The sounds and smells and splatter would not likely be erased from her mind any time soon. Kitya was ashamed that she was such a weakling. What if she had been a stronger sort? Could she have impressed Elfreth? If she were stronger would she be able to follow her healer boy?
"Herabin." She breathed with a dreamy smile, her eyes unfocused in her little day dream. She blinked back to the present and answered, "I've been shadowing a boy named Herabin these last few days. He is rather amazing. He's a journeyman healer that was sent when the sickness was rampant. He's cute and sweet, and kind, and knows just how to make me feel better. He's wonderful, you'd love him, Kia. He's filled my days with thinking and healing, and, well, haha, um. . . intamacy. He's very good." She flushed slighyly.

Kia smiled softly. She was well used to how easily her sister fell in love, and while she'd never admit it, the truth was that she kind of envied Kit. Sure, her sister was flighty and kind of irresponsible, but she had fun and was rarely lonely for long.
"He sounds nice, Kit. I'd love to meet him." She offered the little blue flit another bite to eat and then turned her attention back to Kitya, "And he definitely seems to have made you rather happy. Which is extremely important to me as your big sister."
She tilted her head slightly, "Is there a 'but' here that I'm missing?"
