J'var was a sore looser, and he hated to be loosing to some unnamed bronzer for Laszreen's affections. It made him frown, nearly pouting, when she said that's not all I want. Yeah. She wanted a good shag with mister hotshot bronzerider. That's what she wanted. How could he have been fooled by her boldness? She was just after the next best thing, wasn't she? She was a gold digger- pompous, and so determined to get her way. And he wasn't good enough for her to crush on. Shard it all! Women were so frustrating. The only one he wanted spurned him into further bitterness.
"And I hope you get all that you want." He wouldn't stand in her way if it wasn't J'var she wanted. He wasn't that dumb. "However what I want is to keep up our friendship. I've got to go now and talk to A'stin. But you keep watch for Io. 'Kay?"

Laszreen couldn't know what he was thinking but she couldn't help but feel that something was going on behind those dark eyes of his. Something that was a discredit to her. Well she couldn't be sure and never would be, after all she had made it perfectly clear that they were to be platonic as much as it might pain him. "Time will tell." She said as if time was going to take forever and she was unfortunate to have to be at the mercy of time.
"I will and good luck with A'stin." Laszreen said the Weyrleaders name without title and realized it might be taboo after saying it. Faranth she needed to work on that. She watched him leave and when he was out of earshot she said quietly, "Until we meet again..." a slow sigh escaped her and she regained her colder composure. Her hand rested on her glass of water which she finished off and then left the Weyrhall herself.
(The end...)
