Pets Adopted a puppy from Weyrling Amneris' canine, Tipp's litter. The puppy is athletic, protective of his people and all in all sweet natured. He is relatively calm till you get him in a room with his brother, owned by Greenrider N'zule. He is well trained, due to Rory's consistancy and patience. He named the canine Gadget because after all, Rory is a fix it guy.
(When he grows up:
)
Appearance:
Rory is a handsome man, to put it mildly. He isn’t as bulky as a rider but keeps in relatively good shape. His fingers are long and almost pretty to look at. There isn’t anything he can’t do with his hands. He has gray eyes and a slightly arrogant smile. Come now, whats wrong with knowing you look good? His chocolate brown hair is short but not buzzed off like many riders would. It’s short because that way it’s more manageable. Often a strand or two will end up in his face, but he pulls it back just as quickly. He has high cheekbones and a smooth complexion. His olive skin tone is the envy of many women.
For having so few problems with his physique its interesting to know that he is not a dragonrider. He stands at an even 6’. If one is paying attention one will see that he wears no leathers. Generally his dark pants are worn, well fitted but not tight to his body and are dirty from candlemarks of labor. His shirts vary in color. He isn’t afraid to wear any color, except possibly green. Green is an unlucky color after all.
Rory would prefer comfortable shoes when working but nice shoes or sandals when relaxing. As much work as he does, he often gives off a well groomed appearance. He takes pride in how he looks as well as his work. In fact looking good should be part of the job. Rory also has a love of nice smells and often uses good smelling sands to wash with so that he smells good while traipsing about the Weyr.
Personality:
Rory is a people person. If people didn’t love him his world would collapse. Not only is he a flatterer but he’s the life of the party. A popular person where drudges are concerned, he has a fire within him that most people find intriguing. Not only is he extroverted and fun to be around but he has a mechanical mind. He can fix anything in the Weyr. He understands life pretty well. Except for his own of course.
Wine is one of his major weaknesses; along with a good looking man or woman. Rory is bisexual though he normally prefers men. He considers everyone his friend until they do something to ruin that relationship. There are a few people on his bad list and they know who they are. He has a close relationship with his eldest sister, Allior. The two of them are as thick as thieves. They get drunk together and are pretty much best friends, especially since he saved her life and that of little Rorie.
The more he does in life the more he wants to do. He has a plethora of things that he has tried his hand at. He can cook, thanks to his sister. He knows how to clean everything, and fix pretty much anything. Handling the beasts at the Weyr is easy for him. He knows how things work and he has even helped with more mathematical things. Anyone that knows Rory, knows his brain is always thinking behind his gray eyes.
His opinions are well thought out and he actually enjoys discussions. He believes men and women should be equals in all things. Women as well as men had a right to pursue happiness. Rory believes that men who hurt others purposefully ought to be given a sound lashing and then sent Between forever. Either that or he could constantly beat such characters to a pulp and see how they liked it. He believes in the power of the little people. The ones who don’t get acknowledged but without them the Weyr would fall apart. He also is very fond of Bubbly pies.
History:
Rory was born and raised at the Weyr. He knew his family was drudges. Working people with no particular craft. His mother not only took care of her children but fostered many others. As he grew older he and his sister, Allior became very close. She was the only one who understood the way his mind worked and he found solace in her calm presence. When he was about twelve, his younger brother was taken to the Harper Hall for training. The boy had talent but Rory could not help but be jealous. So his mother decided to have him stand for clutches with his sister. Each turn was another disappointment for their family. Their history suggested that it would be unlikely that they would impress.
At about fourteen, Rory discovered that he was attracted to men. It wasn’t a big deal at the Weyr but no one in his family had been, as far as he knew. He only divulged this part of himself to Allior. He had not thought about it much until he was out fixing a fence post with some of the other boys and realized that while they were checking out the women of the Weyr he was comparing the boys to each other. One was a bit taller and had a really nice tan. The blonde was more than attractive… he was Rory’s crush. Coincidentally, Allior agreed that the boy was attractive.
It was a suspicion of his that his sister was bisexual too, so one day Rory asked her. She just smiled a secret smile and left him guessing. By the time he was sixteen, Rory had gotten himself helplessly involved with a bluerider. The man was not necessarily hot but he was young and very very wrong for Rory. He was enamored with the man’s fiery attitude. It only took a few days for Rory to realize the man had a Weyrmate. It wasn’t important to Rory but when the greenrider found out she was a bit less forgiving. Of course, Rory thought the woman had every right to be angry.
He moved on as always, though he still had not impressed and as his mother said, time was a wasting. Rory was finding that he was much better than other people at figuring things out. He noticed details, understood how things worked. The Headwoman took notice of his talents and made him her fix it boy. He was sent hither and thither throughout the Weyr fixing anything that was needed and then when he was done with that he helped wherever the Weyr was short handed. In the meantime he did continue to stand for clutches.
His sister too continued to stand until she became pregnant that is. At the time Rory thought it would be wonderful to have a niece or nephew. Boy was he wrong. Not only was Allior unpleasant for the most of it but he ended up doing most of her work for her the last month. He often wondered if it would have been better if he hadn’t suggested he help out with the birth. Then again, his first niece was the prettiest thing he ever saw. He spoiled her rotten, or as much as possible. Allie’s father wasn’t really around much but the crèche took care of her when Allior was working and when she was home she watched her. Life was going great for Rory again. He was having fun and he had a new member in his family.
At the age of twenty he stopped standing for clutches. There was no longer a reason to. He had life going the way he wanted. He was out partying and playing dragon poker at night and during the day he worked and explored new things. He really had nothing to complain about. Except that he was lacking in a love life for quite a while. That was until Allie was three. Allior was back out and looking for love, as much as he was. The two of them together worked their magic and both found at least people they could enjoy. Sadly, Allie ended up pregnant again. Before his niece was born he broke up with his mate of about ten months. He was crushed but he didn’t let that stop him from being at Alene’s birth. The next turn he had numerous lovers, but nothing long term. He learned about painting and ended up mixing this learning with a little loving. He was always more about loving than fighting. His nephew by his sister, Telina, was born. His first nephew.
The next turn sped by without any important happenings. He didn’t really care about Weyr politics much anymore, as he noted that Rankers didn’t really care what he thought. He didn’t care much for them either at times. He was getting older and it began to make him wonder what exactly he wanted in life. Rory realized, his wants changed all the time. So he decided that to be happy he would always be pursuing happiness.
He was twenty five when amazingly enough he had three births in the family. His niece, Aine, by Allior was first then came Telina’s son Telon. His brother, now a journeyman Harper at Fort Weyr had his first son, Tobren, with his wife, Breann. It was a cluster for certs. His mother began asking when he would be having children but Rory didn’t have the heart to tell her that he wasn’t attempting to have children because he was attracted more to men. Not that Rory didn’t have flings with women as well as men; he was just more inclined to seduce men.
The next turn was suprising too, in that Rory’s youngest sister impressed a dragon. At first he and Allior were a bit angry and got very very drunk. After the anger passed, there was jealousy. After jealousy passed they allowed themselves to be happy. Still, how that skinny brat had impressed was beyond them. At least it had proved that their family was not cursed. Maybe that meant the kids could impress someday.
Rory’s life became predictable at one point. He became seriously involved with a greenrider. The passion was there and more than that. The emotional attachment was almost too much to bear at times. Rory was in love for the first time. He didn’t consider flights to be cheating, he understood a greens need to mate but when his mate began to see men outside of flights Rory left. His sister, meanwhile had gotten herself into a relationship, worse than his own.
Allior was seeing an abusive man, well he was only abusive when he drank liquor. She began to miscarry which the man suspected meant she was taking rides from riders. Allior finally got the courage to leave with her brother’s help but it seemed the man was unstoppable. Allior was seven months pregnant when he came at her. He went on and on about her carrying some other man’s seed…which was entirely untrue. Luckily, Rory was out late that night and fought the man off, pretty much beating him to a pulp. No one messed with his sister. He threatened the man to leave her alone or he would take it to the Weyrleaders. That was the end of that. When Allior gave birth to her third daughter, she named her after her uncle, who had saved them from a raging drunk man. Rorie is now two turns old.
His latest relationship, with greenrider, N’zule, which lasted a little under a turn, came to an end recently. The greenrider was entirely too angry over nothing and Rory was sick of dealing with the man’s alter ego around flight time. After all, Rory was the one who had to sit back and let his lover be intimate with another person. The hardest part for Rory now is that he isn’t one to fall in love or go for long term relationships.
Of all the people in the Weyr the only one he trusts completely is Allior. They are so close in looks and age it is often thought that they are twins, even now. It helps them pick up men. At least that’s what they think. Rory is currently using his talents to fix things around the Weyr and often finds himself helping out with tasks that take more initiative than what a lazy drudge would. Allior has found her niche in the kitchens as a cook and is doing some fostering which Rory is all to happy to help with. For being so promiscuous the man has a fondness for children especially his namesake. Rorie died of the illness that went quickly throught the Weyr in turn 1053. She was two.
Recently, under strange and difficult circumstances, Rory slept with N'zule's niece, Nisha. They didn't talk fo the even again until she found out she was pregnant. Nisha recently impressed a green dragon. The raising of the child would be up to Rory. N'zule found out about this and made an already strained relationship more so.
Nisha gave birth to a baby boy, whom she named Nishor (with the help of Rory). While he was a big baby, he was also a very easy one to take care of. Rory found the little one had entirely stolen his heart. Gadget, his canine, also seemed very fond of the new addition and took to gaurding the door.
The drudge has tried in vain to get over his past relationship but it only seems to make him want N'zule more. In all other ways, Rory's life has taken a turn for the better. If there was something he could say to make things between them better, he would say it. Nisha, the mother of his son, is a very dear friend whom Rory will always treat as family but neither of them has ever felt a romantic connection in any way. Rory worries that N'zule thinks there has been.
As the Turns seem to pass N'zule's anger has waned. He still knows there can never be anything between them and so Rory has tried to move on as best he can. Love is never easy.
