Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Personality:
Dreamer: Bennik has plenty of ideas, more than suitable, his mother says. You could call him a dreamer easily. He thinks great things can happen, even with his rank. Ben feels that anything is possible. He believes the daughter of a Lord can come and fall for a mere apprentice. He has been called 'fool' for such notions.
Hopeless Romantic: He firmly believes in true love, though his sister Lambria has often told him to open his eyes to the real world. Of course Lambria was a romantic when she was seventeen too, but she had to grow up, and married the first man she thought she 'loved.' Ben believes that love and appreciation is important, and this gives him considerable attention from the girls. But he does not pay them much heed because he is waiting for a great love, and he also believes that fate plays a huge part.
Imaginative: As a child, he was the inventor of all of the little games. He came up with play ideas, and made up songs to teach other kids, and told the most fantastic stories. He thinks he can help change the healing world with his ideas, and perhaps he should have went into diagnostics instead of pharmacy.
Kind:Bennik is compassionate and kind, which gives him the good bedside manner he needs as a journeyman healer. Of course, this means he's never harsh or blunt, so he often beats around the bush. Perhaps a good reason why he didn't go into diagnostics. His mother wonders how he can be around the dying for the rest of his life, though he does it bravely.
Stubborn: When he wants something, he sticks to his guns, and you have to really persuade him if you think he's wrong. Persistence is on his side, and gives him that extra boost as a dreamer to do something about things. Of course, he is not perfect, and this stubborn streak has caused rifts and other people to be frustrated with him.
Hobbies/Skills: He is a good mix of both of his parents. He has a deep compassion for healing and helping people, but he also has a driving passion for music and poetry. From his father he can play a guitar and the pipes, but not as well as a true student at the harper craft.
Pets: A very small, male, blonde canine he calls Oshwind. The canine is very petite, and sweet, and cute, though showing the pernese terrier breeding at times. Oshwind does get crabby and snippy, even though he spends most of his day napping in Bennik's parent's apartments. And he's not much use for hunting tunnel snakes. Mostly there just cause he's beautiful! (Plus the girls love Oshwind )
Oshwind donning a gift from Platonia:
Sleepy, lazy Oshwind:
History: Bennik was born the third child of a healer and a harper. While his parents told him they would have loved him just the same if he were born a girl, he knows differently. His father and mother wanted a boy child because frankly, it was hard for a girl to get on in the world, and they had two to worry about already. After Bennik was born, well after, in fact, the couple were surpized with another child, a girl named Salene.
Since both of his parents were working journeymen, he was left with his grandmother Medraina, along with his sisters Lambria and Platonia. Those days were happy, with his grandfather harper coming home and playing them ditties on his beautiful wooden instruments, and his mother telling them tales of great friendship, betrayal, and true love. Since Medraina was such a romantic, Narwina figures she had that influence to her children. When he was eight turns, Narwina pulled some strings to get Lambria apprenticed at the Healer Hall. Much to Narwina's dismay, the girl only stayed in the craft until she was eighteen-five turns. Before Lambria quit, at the age of thirteen, Bennik was easily accepted into the Healer Craft. Not long after, Lambria announced she was getting married to a journeyman healer named Argos, six turns her senior. Narwina wasn't mad that her daughter was marrying, and sensibly too, but that she worked so hard to get Lambria in, and the girl quit. She was thankful Platonia didn't show any interest in the crafts. It was a great scandal to him at the time, but the wedding was nice. Lambria's wedding was small, quiet, though it was the first time that he got to drink wine. Four turns later she would give birth to a little girl, and now is going to have her second child.
He worked hard, like his mother before him, at the Healer craft. Some of his masters who knew his ambitious mother were harder on him, though most of the students and journeyman did not know his lineage and treated him just the same as the other boys. One master, his pharmacy master, favored him, and that encouraged him to pick the study of medicinal drugs for his emphasis. He was seventeen and in a turn or so he would become a senior apprentice.
Now, it was around this time that he noticed Alsea, the most beautiful girl in the world to him. He didn't care about the tales of the beautiful weyrwomen, nor the other pretty girls his rank. All he saw was Alsea. To him, none of them compared. Narwina in particular thinks it is all very foolish. Ladies marry Lords, end of story. It didn't matter that by this time his father was a Master Harper, nor that his long forgotten grandfather was once well known for his talents, nor even that his other grandfather was once a great instrument maker. Benny wasn't a Lord, and he was bound to get hurt in all of this business. Did she even notice her poor, handsome boy? No. And Narwina thought she must be a haughty little harpy anyway. No, no, that would not due! In her apartments no one speaks of the Lord's daughter Alsea. Ben's studies musn't suffer for that kniving little Delilah. Not that Narwina has ever met the girl. Still he longs for her, and writes her songs and poems. He will admire her from afar, though to his pride he has met her once. He accompanied his master to the major hold to bring some drugs for one family member. She smiled at him and said, 'Good day,' before passing. What sweet melodious voice had she!
Also, not long after, he was given Oshwind by his mother and father for his eighteenth birthing day. Narwina figured it might take his mind off of things, and rather distract him. Now, canines on Pern were bred for catching tunnelsnakes, terrier types, you might even say. Most were decent size, breeding over the turns changing their looks from other dogs. Breeding capability and natural selection produced a wide array. Well, Oshwind wasn't bred on purpose. His mother had been a small runt, from a smaller breed to begin with, and the beastcrafter at the hold who owned her hadn't even wanted to keep her. However his young daughter pleaded the dog's case, so she her father gave the canine to her. The beast crafter was so busy he quite forgotten about the little female, when his young daughter exclaimed that her canine was getting fat, and what a lazy little dog! It was confirmed that the dog was ready to pup, and from that litter came three tiny puppies, smaller than any pup he had yet to deliver. One died, one was given to Darred, who taught his son, and soon after, a visiting rich man found out about the dog's small size. He paid quite the sum for Oshwind's brother to appease his wife- who adored and pampered the tiny dark blonde dog. Oshwind, too, is quite pampered, sleeping away his days in his parent's apartment.
Now Bennik is getting ready for journeyman hood, though it may be a turn or two away.
