Name: Melora
Age: 16 Turns
Gender: Female
Rank: Holdbrat, daughter of the Lord Holder
Family:
Paternal Grandfather: Ashtin- He was the former Lord Holder. He was notorious for being strict and demanding. Her father threatens to be like him to Melora whenever she’s acting like a brat. For that reason alone, she dislikes the man and she never met him. Deceased.
Paternal Grandmother: Naline- She’s still alive and accommodated by Lord Merrek. Melora doesn’t care for her much. She’s just so…old.
Father: Lord Merrek of Fort Hold- Melora can’t stand her father. He’s so distant and cold and she just acts her worse whenever he’s around. The only thing she trusts him with is finding her a good person to join with and that’s only because he has Sulia to direct him.
Stepmother: Lady Sulia- Melora is one of the only people who likes Lord Merrek’s new wife. She idolizes the woman and is utterly naive to her extracurricular activity. She’s the only person that she actually listens to, literally.
Mother: Ralyn- Melora doesn’t remember her real mother. She sometimes wishes that she was still alive, but that was before Sulia. Deceased.
Aunt: Sayalea Lady of Keroon Hold- She hates visiting Keroon. She doesn’t like the lady holder aka her aunt. It’s probably just because she’s a bit jealous.
Uncle: Danul minor Lord Holder of a Hold beholden to Fort- Melora doesn’t really care one way or another for him.
Aunt: Liewryn married to another minor Lord Holder beholden to Fort- She doesn’t like Liewryn. Reason unknown. That tends to be the only reason Melora needs.
Uncle: Quahin- Mater Weaver
Brother: Delek- Heir and Seward to his father- Melora likes her older brother. She thinks that he’s actually doing something with his life.
Brother: Andros- Promised a minor hold- Melora thinks that he can do better than a minor hold, but he doesn’t listen to her. Therefore, she doesn’t like him.
Sister: Chaila- Like herself, Chalia’s a bit of a dreamer. She likes her sister and they get along, until Melora throws a fit.
Sister: Alsea- She’s always been a bit of a mother figure. As Melora grew older, though, she grew to disdain her. Their personalities simply clash, not that she needs a reason to dislike someone.
Cousins: Bennar, Rilla, Nebarcus, Prin, Selana, Illanart, Nevel,
Appearance:
Like the rest of her family, she has dark hair that falls down her back. It ends at the small of her back and is completely straight. According to recent fashion, she has shorter lengths surrounding her face complete with straight bangs. Melora’s quite fond of her hair and would never cut its full length. In fact, she cried when she was getting her bangs but. She grew to be fond of the style, but she hated loosing all that hair.
Unlike her father, Melora has very noticeable eyes. They’re a light color, like her oldest sister’s, but instead of green; they’re blue. Her bangs brush the top of her eyes, making them stand out more than usual. She has dark long eyelashes that hide along with her slightly thicker eyebrows behind the sweep of hair. Her other features are only slightly defined. Her cheekbones aren’t very prominent and her lips and smile are attractive but unexceptional.
Melora is about 5’7” and on the thin side. Her body has a few curves, but they’re smaller much to her distaste. She’s what people would describe as lanky, but like her older sister, she’ll most likely fell out just a little more. It’s obvious that she’s not going to grow anymore having leveled off height-wise since she was 13 turns. She enjoyed her few turns being tall for her age, but now she’s simply average height.
Her typical choices in clothing follow fashion appropriately. She loves the full, billowing skirts that drift to below her ankles. As style suggests, she wears soft slippers that have a hard sole that are raised a bit. She is almost always seen in dresses, though she will don more simple boots and skirts. Melora always wears a gold necklace with a glass ring dangling off of it, a simple trinket given to her by her mother before she passed away.
Personality:
Melora can be an insolent little child. She’s prone to sullen fits when she’s not getting what she wants or when she’s simply in a bad mood. She’s not especially vindictive and she doesn’t usually hold grudges. She’s simply childish at times and likes to be the center of attention. The only way she knows how to place herself in the spotlight is to complain and demand her own way. It works, but it causes her to be considered immature.
The young holdgirl is very close to her stepmother. Being the youngest of the girls from her father’s first wife, she knew her the least. She doesn’t really remember her, so her stepmother became much more of a mother to her. She looks to the woman for guidance and follows her lead even if sometimes she recognizes that it’s wrong. This draws her into conflicts with her sisters a lot, but she doesn’t care much. She’s close with her sisters, but only to a certain degree.
Melora is infatuated with a trader boy who travels through twice a turn. They claim to be in love, but she knows her father would not approve. So they keep a secret meeting up every time he comes through and a stolen kiss and a ‘profession of their love.’ It’s a childish relationship built off of the simply thrill of ‘being in forbidden love.’ She’s only told her stepmother, heeding her advice not to tell her father and to not take him to the furs. Even though Sulia is rather loose with her own favors, she doesn’t want her stepdaughter to be ruined for joining. She told Melora to flirt, encourage the boys, and keep her forbidden love but when it came time for joining, focus on making the best life for herself. Her stepdaughter, of course, followed and continues to follow her directions.
Which explains why Melora flirts. She craves attention and the approval of her stepmother so she flashes a smile and a cute giggle around guys her age. She has managed to catch more than a few eyes, but she’s leaving the final decision for her joining up to her father and her stepmother. She trusts them to create an appropriate matching. She “loves” her little trader boy, but she has no illusions of running away with him. It wouldn’t be fitting to her social status.
One of Melora’s favorite things to do is to ride runners. She’s always loved the beasts and when she was old enough, she began to rider. She doesn’t have a runner of her own, but she would love nothing more. When her sister got her runner for her eighteenth turn, she was very jealous. She didn’t talk to her for a week, but she got over it. She usually rides one of the hold’s runners; Dark Butter. She’s known for disappearing for hours on the trails. No one worries about her because they know where she is and that she always comes back. Some how she manages to never get lost. When she’s around runners, she’s the sweet young girl that she isn’t any other time. She’s kind and thoughtful and carefree. But she usually doesn’t let anyone come with her so no one really gets to see it.
History:
Melora was only two turns when her mother died. Her beautiful, intelligent, loving mother was lost in childbirth. Because she was so young, all she remembers is what her siblings told her about Ralyn. Natually she didn’t miss her because she didn’t know her, but sometimes she wonders how different her life would be if her mother hadn’t died.
Her sister, Alsea, took care of her a lot when she was young. She kept Melora in lessons and out of trouble even though the young holdbrat was a bit of a handful. She was insolent and bratty and she always had to have her way. Alsea didn’t put up with it much, but Melora’s attitude still persisted.
When she was three turns, she broke her arm, bringing her father out of the shell he’d retreated into after his wife’s death. Something about her injury made him remember that he did still have a family and children who needed him. But Melora didn’t give him the time of day. She was only three, but she was constantly prone to fits and she would always sulk when her father was around.
As she grew up, her attitude didn’t get much better. Melora still couldn’t stand her father’s company, but she became much easier to work with in lessons. She actually wanted to learn the lessons and become more of a lady. She slowly grew to be very proud of heritage and eager to live up to her blood. Melora wants to be a lady holder, highly prized and very important in the hold. She’s ambitious but it’s a quiet ambition because she’s scared of failing.
When her father remarried, it was one of the happiest days of her life. Melora quickly grew to love Sulia and admire her. She loves her sense of style and her ability to get what she wants. When Sulia talks, Melora actually listens; a rare happening. She trusts her stepmother explicably and would be devastated if she found out about her affairs. Of course, there’s a good chance that Melora would just ignore it if she found out, reasoning it away with the age difference between the pair. In her eyes, Sulia can do no wrong.
A turn ago, a trader caravan came through. One of the trader boys caught Melora’s eye. The young girl immediately decided she was ‘in love.’ At the Gather, they danced almost all night. Before they said goodnight, she told him that she loved him and he said it back. They meet everytime he comes through, but all they do is kiss for a moment then profess their love. Melora childishly believes she’s actually in love, but she would never run off with him. She’s too focused on finding a proper man to join with and she’s depending on Sulia to find him.
When the fevers swept through, she was largely unaffected, isolated from the sickness. She didn’t see any of the death of pain. She lives her sheltered little happy life, trying to focus all eyes on her.
