Name: Cezine
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Candidate
Location: Telgar Weyr
Family
Mother: Keryne, Telgar green rider.
Father: C’din, Telgar blue rider.
One half-brother, Kedan, related through Keryne.
No other known family.
Physical Appearance:
Standing at roughly 5'6, this young woman is fairly average as far as her height goes, looking up at most men and meeting most women eye-to-eye. Her skintone is a light golden brown, though it's hard to say whether it's sun-induced or hereditary. Perhaps a bit of both. Her hair, at first, can sometimes mistaken for black in dim light. It's very dark indeed, and spirals down her back in waves when it's allowed to run loose (which is very rarely). The ends curl into tight little ringlets, no matter what's done with them. In any decent light, however, it quickly becomes obvious that her hair is not black, but is in fact a deep, dark red, the color of fine red wine. Her eyes are a tad on the large side, but somewhat narrow, lending her a dusky, come-hither appearance. They are a smoky gray-blue in color and fringed with thick, dark lashes.
Fitting to her height, Cezine's build is not stocky or muscled. Rather, she sports a leaner, more willowy build. She is not 'skinny' by any means and boasts ample feminine curves. Her waist is slim and narrow, a bit on the long side, and while her hips can't be considered 'large' by any means, she has enough to make it clear that she's a woman. Legs and arms are long and slender as well. Her cheekbones are high and her lips full and inviting, especially when she smiles. All in all, she has the potential to be a very elegant woman, and at times exhibits a fair amount of grace and poise in her movements.
Personality:
Despite what snap judgments people might make of her upon first appearance, Cezine is a quiet young woman who keeps her opinions to herself unless she feels they're of vital importance. She is not prone to 'butting in' unless, again, she feels it's necessary. She has a quiet air of dependability, and she's an excellent listener. She is in no way set in her ways and is very open-minded. If she were to ever pass a snap judgment on someone (which she does very rarely), it would be kept behind a mask of blank politeness and never passed on to anyone. Along with this, she displays a certain strength and almost stubbornness even though neither of these qualities are readily apparent until some situation brings them out in her. The same can be said of her courage, though there's little that can truly intimidate her. Threats only make her angry and punishments make her more determined to not get caught doing whatever it is she might get punished for.
Ordinarily, Cezine's temper is not the explosive sort. She has a long fuse and is capable of taking a lot of crap before finally reacting. When she is pushed to the limit, hers is a slow-burning temper that can last for hours, days, even Turns. Grudges make up a huge part of her temper, and much of the time she is unwilling to forgive, let alone forget. She also has a penchant for being extremely petty to those who have angered her in some way, although she hides it quite well. Cezine finds it hard to believe in 'being the better person' when she feels she's been wronged somehow. Two wrongs may not make a right, but it sure makes /her/ feel better. Fortunately, she's not one to dwell on issues such as these; while it's true it's hard for her to forgive and impossible to forget, she chooses to focus her energies on other things rather than dwell on the negative and become bitter.
Probably her greatest fault is her tendency to turn things on herself. Cezine tends to take people under her wing, lead the leaderless, and provide support for whomever needs or wants it. She often spreads herself too thin, and when some calamity befalls her (major or minor), it's a great upset to her. She often turns bitter blame onto herself, whether said incident was her fault or not; she will always somehow convinced herself there was something she could have done to prevent it or lessen the consequences. Fortunately, rather than mope and cry for a sevenday, she quickly picks herself up and moves on, determined to learn something rather than make herself a burden for others to carry.
History: Cezine came about as the result of a green Flight; the only thing that saved her from a short hop between was that her mother was holdbred, and rebelled strongly against such ideas. However, once she was born, Keryne found that she had neither the patience nor the know-how to raise a child. Therefore, her daughter was sent to the crèche, where she remained for much of her childhood. At first, Cezine was easily overlooked, a soft-spoken and seemingly gentle child who didn’t go out of the way to draw attention to herself. As she grew older, however, more and more people began to notice that it wasn’t shyness that kept the girl out of everyone’s hair; it was independence. Why should she go out of her way to attract attention for something that is easier done on her own? She learned her way around the Weyr at an early age, and also displayed an aptitude for getting around any obstacles that happened to bar her way.
When she was five Turns of age, Cezine’s mother gave birth to another babe, a boy this time. While the girl had known for some time which green rider her mother was, she had shown about as much interest in the woman as Keryne had shown her. But when she learned of a younger brother, Cezine became intrigued. Just as she had been, he was sent to the crèche to live until he either outgrew it or became a fosterling. During his time in the crèche, Kedan was intently looked after by his big sister, making sure no harm came to him. She kept him under her wing even as they grew older. While it wasn’t true that they were inseparable, as Cezine liked to go her own way from time to time, she was reliable and he knew that he could always count on her to be there if he needed her. Anybody who gave him trouble earned his sister's deep-rooted grudges. Cezine didn't have the fiercest temper in the Weyr, to be sure, but she had an excellent memory for wrongs done.
But it wasn’t just Kedan who relied on Cezine. Through the Turns, she proved to the rest of her generation of ‘brats that she was a good person to go to if ever they were in trouble. There was an almost motherly sense about her; she would take care of anyone who asked it of her without complaint and see that she got the job done… whatever it was. The fact that she was but a child herself seemed lost on her. Mature for her age, she always seemed to have a wealth of advice for anybody who sought it out from her. As was normal for weyrbred children, she began Standing for clutches at the age of 12. Practicality kept her from getting injured, unlike an unfortunate few of her fellow candidates. However, something also kept her from being Chosen. Putting her quiet determination on display, Cezine stubbornly refused to quit; despite everything, the ban on girls Standing, whatever other obstacles she encountered, she vowed to keep Standing until she was too old, and anyone who knew her knew that she’d hold herself to that promise.
The massive restriction on allowing the girls to stand surprised and shocked Cezine; if the dragons were Impressing to them, why keep them off the Sands? But she was determined not to let it get in her way. When the plague struck, she found herself terrified that her brother would contract the illness. As far as she was concerned, he was the only family she had, and she wasn't willing to lose him. When Kedan fell ill, Cezine took action. Rather than take him where all the other patients were, she found someplace secluded, away from everyone else, and cared for him herself. Like most women of the lower caverns, she knew some healing and what she didn't know, she somehow managed to find out without the very busy healers realizing what she was about.
Miraculously, against all odds, Kedan recovered from his bout with the plague, weak but alive. His ecstatic sister (who managed to remain plague free herself) nursed him back to health and saw to his every need. Once they realized the scale of the disaster, both of the siblings were stunned. Cezine had been so singleminded in her care of her brother that she hadn't really realized how much effect the plague had on the Weyr. She felt devastated, until Kedan pointed something out to her. Surely now they would need candidates more than ever, if they were to have enough for the next clutch. It didn't subtract from the feeling of loss at what had happened, but she saw he had a point.
Life must go on.
