Character Info:[/u]
Name: Riella
Age: 18 Turns
Gender: Female
Rank: Candidate
Location: Telgar Weyr
Family:
Grandmother: Myella, drudge- She’s very close with her grandmother and is her eyes to the world since she lost her sight in the first wave of fevers. She’s her mother in all respects beside actually giving birth to her and Riella holds great respect for her.
Mother: Liari, drudge- She gave birth to her daughter and died shortly after. Her death had a large impact on her mother, but Myella made it through for the sake of her granddaughter. DECEASED[/color]
Appearance:
Riella is not an imposing figure when someone first glances at her. She has a delicate-looking small figure, only five feet tall and thin. However, she is stronger than she looks. She’s never shirked any physical labor, causing her body to be covered with an inconspicuous wiry muscle. She isn’t as strong as some of the more sturdily-built women, but she definitely holds more strength in her body that people would think.
She has thick curls that fall to her shoulders. Try as she might, it won’t grow past her shoulders. It’s a light brown, highlighted with strips of a light blonde. It has a nice cinnamon sheen to it in the sun, but it’s hard to control with its curls. Nothing straightens her hair out, not even water when she’s bathing. Combing it is quite a challenge so she usually keeps it tied back with a leather thong. Sometimes she just wants to cut it all off to end her daily hassles with it, but she probably never will. It’s too much a part of who she is.
Riella has simple brown eyes that mimic the color of her hair. Her eyelashes are short and light, doing nothing to highlight their normality. She has high, defined cheekbones that are very noticeable against her less prominent features. Her nose would be called a button except that it was thin and almost pointed. It was still miniature against the rest of her face.
She has a light tanned skin tone. It definitely retains a bit of bronze throughout the seasons, but it’s noticeably darker during the summer and spring. She wears earth tones that highlight her hair and her skin. Every now and again, she’ll don a blue shirt that makes her eyes stand out a bit, but usually she keeps to greens and tans.
Personality:
Riella has a very harsh personality. If she doesn’t like a person, it’s evident and it persists no matter what situation they go through. She either respects someone or she doesn’t. She goes off of first impressions and it’s extremely hard to alter her perception of anything. She’s stubborn and she can be quite unreasonable. If she respects someone, though, she’s a very loyal friend who makes sure that she does everything she can to help her friend achieve whatever goals she might have.
Despite how she feels about people, she gets things done. She manages to coerce and threaten people into getting what she wants. She’s somewhat of a bully, but she’s never violent towards another person. People grow used to her surly attitude and those who know her well, even if they aren’t on her good side, learn to how to deal with her methods. People respect her even if they don’t always agree with.
She has a very sarcastic sense of humor. She doesn’t think that cheap humor is entertaining at all. People around her learn to laugh at her dry jokes and put up with her insulting attitude towards those she doesn’t like. Most of her jokes stem off of her distaste towards situations or people around her. She doesn’t hesitate to share her opinions of people even if it involves saying it to the person. She’s simply not her style to hide her feelings.
Riella is not a flirtatious person. She’s practical when it comes to relationships which means that she doesn’t have any. She knows that she is a candidate and not yet established herself in her path of life. Maybe when she Impresses and gets out of weyrling turns, she’ll try and find someone. It would be a difficult relationship and it’d probably take a few tries with a few different men for her to find a relationship that worked.
History:
Liari was just another drudge, working hard in the Lower Caverns and the kitchens. She didn’t impose upon anyone or make herself stand out. She was content to work through her days and keep to her small group of friends at nights. She wasn’t loud, she wasn’t quiet, she wasn’t exceptional, but she wasn’t boring. Liari was loyal and young and happy with her simple life. One night her friends convinced her to indulge in a little too much wine and she lost of track of herself.
The next morning she woke up feeling a little odd. She was in her rooms, but she wasn’t dressed and she was sore. When she asked around, no one could tell her who she left the small get together with and she still couldn’t remember what had happened. She could only assume the worst and continue on with her life.
In about eight sevendays, the telltale signs of morning sickness clued the young woman in on the fact that she was pregnant. The first thing she did was run to her mother, begging for her help. The older drudge was ecstatic that she was going to be a grandmother, but she was worried for her daughter’s health. Her body didn’t seem to be adjusting to the pregnancy very well, leaving the woman eating as much as possible, but vomiting most of it up.
With her mother’s help, Liari made it through the pregnancy and gave a shaky birth to a young girl. She immediately named the babe Riella, combining her own name with her mother’s. But the birth left her vulnerable and the young mother succumbed to firehead. It racked through her body and she only lasted a sevenday before she passed on. Her mother, Myella, was left with the care of the newborn baby and the loss of her only daughter.
She coped with the death to the best of her ability and made through it, trying to care for the baby. She immediately weaned Riella to animal milk as opposed to having to use a wet nurse. It was hard and the baby was sickly for a while, but she made it through and grew strong and tough. In the next few turns, Riella grew and learned. She was quick to walk and talk early and turned from a sickly infant into a healthy curious toddler.
When Riella reached ten turns, it was apparent just how stubborn and harsh the girl would turn out to be. She was relentless and it was apparent when she was put to work in the kitchens. She worked hard at her chores and was a perfectionist when it came to any task she was given, no matter how menial. She was always a little bitter about how some people had not only a mother, but a father as well, but she didn’t let it affect her like some would have.
She didn’t dream of more than the life of a drudge, knowing how limited her opportunities really were. Just like her mother, she was content with her life and how everything just flowed. She was close with her grandmother and she didn’t need anyone else.
In her seventeenth turn, everything began to change though. Her grandmother caught the fever, but she managed to fight it off and survive. She was crippled though, completely blind. She couldn’t work and began to depend on others to provide for her, something that didn’t sit well with the elderly woman. Riella took care of her to the best of her ability and spent most of her free time, sitting with the older woman and describing the things that raced. Myella was quite unhappy with her crippled state, but she still enjoyed the presence of her granddaughter.
Riella, on the other hand, was much more affected. She withdrew into herself and her grandmother more and grew much more barbed towards everyone else. When she was Searched from the Lower Caverns, she was surprised. The thought of dragonriding had crossed her mind more than once, but she thought it was a far away dream. Her grandmother convinced her to take the chance, but she was careful to still retain their relationship even though she moved to the Candidate Barracks.
Color Preference: I think she’d be an interesting greenrider or goldrider. I literally have no preference.
