Character Info:
Name: Eisu (ee-shoe)
Age: 21 Turns, Spring Birthing Day
Gender: Female
Orientation: Heterosexual (straight) – As much as she distrusts men, she’d never sleep with a woman.
Rank: Journeyman Healer
Family:
Mother – Rahnasu – Deceased
Rahnasu was what many would call the jewel of the family and even though her family was from lowly origins, Rahnasu caught many men’s attention with her fair skin and gentle looks. A sweet voice and lovely smile, it was not surprising she found a husband at an early age. It was not until after several miscarriages, however, that Rahnasu finally managed to have children. The birth of her two daughters held complications that Rahnasu did not live through.
Father – Elinei – 52 Turns – Crom Hold
Elinei was born into a higher ranked family than Rahnasu, being the son of the Lord Holder’s cousin. As such, he was always encouraged to find a lovely wife who would raise his rank even farther. His family had been pleased at the sight of Rahnasu, but disappointed at how low ranked her family had been. Despite their attempts at introducing him to other women, however, he ended up marrying Rahnasu. While he struggled with both his family and the miscarriages, Elinei was happy to hear his wife was pregnant once again. When she began labor it seemed like a miracle that she had made it that far. When she was lost, Elinei was devastated. Not able to handle seeing her shadow in his two daughters they were fostered out and he eventually remarried to a woman his parents approved of. Today he barely keeps in contact with his daughters by letter.
Foster Father – Journeyman Quinck – 80 Turns – Healer Hall, Fort
Quinck is a man who, while having a knack for medicine, has never had much ambition to test for his master rank. Content as a Journeyman teaching classes at the Healer Hall, he spends much time with his students and when he is not in class he is at home spending time with his wife and foster daughters, though this is not as often.
Foster Mother – Rinna – 77 Turns – Healer Hall, Fort
Rinna is actually a rather simple minded woman. With a bad hip and a poor sense of memory, she had to be introduced to her daughters several times that first seven day. Even so, she has always been gentle and accepting of them despite her preference to spend more time with the one she can always remember, Quinck. While its no surprise that she confuses to two identical twins, she sometimes forgets that there is more than one blonde haired daughter in her life.
Sister – Elra – 21 Turns – Telgar Weyr - Candidate
Elra is Eisu’s twin sister, in fact they are identical. There was no denying, when seeing the two girls together, that they were sisters. For turns they dressed alike and attended classes together, the two nearly inseparable. It was entering their twelfth turn that they chose different path’s of life as Elra chose to apprentice as a Harper and later on a Candidate. Elra is not shy and easily the braver of the two. Many times it has been Elra who has ran to Eisu’s rescue.
Pets:
Upon coming to Telgar Weyr, Eisu has found herself with a puppy which she has chosen to name Tak for simplicity sake. The largest of the litter, Tak is male and will grow to be a rather large canine. Already closely attached to Eisu, he really is a one person dog, tolerating people only when his lady asks. As he grows older he will become very protective of the woman as well as be a comforting mass of fur within her bed as she doesn’t have the heart to tell the adorable thing no. He is surprisingly obedient and training was quick and nearly unnecessary.
Following pictures are Tak as a puppy and Tak as an adult.
Appearance:
((Elra in red, Eisu in white))
While there are many who would not be able to tell apart Eisu and Elra, there are a few, if very slight, differences. Most, however, would never be noticed at first glance and are still not noticed by those who have known the two sisters for turns.
Both young women appear almost regal as neither are found slouching or letting their shoulders hang. They are proud of who they are and it shows as they always stand straight, with their head high. A 5’8” man can look straight ahead and meet the sisters shared, hazel eyes. Both share smooth complexions with thin eyebrows and high cheekbones. One barely noticeable difference is found in their lips. Unlike her sister Elra, Eisu’s lips are slightly thinner and are more likely to be found pushed together in a thoughtful pose.
The twin sisters share a similar hair style as well which, just like their shared facial features, throws everyone for a loop when trying to remember which sister is which with their long blonde hair that falls to the middle of their back. Both have hair that naturally highlights itself when hours are spent in the sun turning it into various shades of blonde. While Elra is very fond of her and her sisters hair, it is Eisu who dares to put it up every now and then, mostly to keep it out of the why while she works on patients. When she does this chopsticks are used with practiced ease.
One of the smallest differences in the two young women can only be seen depending on the style of clothing they are wearing and if they are standing next to each other. While both are considered slightly on the thin side, Eisu does not share the toned quality that her much more active sister has. Even so, it is a slight difference rarely seen and if anything it allows Eisu to remain looking gentler than her twin. Both still share the same long, fingered hands and shapely backsides.
The biggest difference between the two women besides their personalities and crafts is their choice of dress. While if they are together they certainly don’t mind dressing alike and enjoy doing so, separately the two have slightly different taste in clothing. Eisu finds herself preferring to wear long skirts of various materials depending on the weather. Often times these are dark, solid colors which she most often tops with a white, long sleeved blouse no matter what season it may be. Eisu also finds herself always wearing a large opal pendant upon a beaded chain that the girls had been mailed by their blood father once he deemed them old enough claiming it to be her mothers. Elra had always claimed it looked more in place upon Eisu and so it is Eisu who can not be found without it.
Personality:
Eisu has always been the quieter of the two sisters, both as a child and later on as a young adult. It is this trait that leaves many thinking she is shy, and while that may be correct, Eisu simply prefers to think rather than speak. Often times she’ll sit through a conversation listening rather than talking, only putting in a few words when she feels they are most needed.
While a child in the harpers classroom, Eisu excelled in many of the lessons and was only third from the top of her class – beaten out by two boys, one who would later attempt to discourage her as an Apprentice within the Healer craft. Not as accepted as her sister, Eisu gained a reputation for sticking up for herself within the classroom. It was when the teacher asked a question that she would become more vocal, and while the teacher seemed to prefer to let a male apprentice answer there were enough times when none knew the answer that he was forced to call upon Eisu.
It is probably due to her loyalty to her craft that Eisu is only active enough to remain healthy. While she makes a point of doing a few exercises in the morning and eating healthy, she much prefers to find a comfortable chair and study or tend to the medicine garden. She loves to tend to the valuable plants and has a bit of a green thumb for those that need extra attention. Her room is full of various pots and fragrances coming from the herbs.
Unlike her sister, Eisu does not take kindly to men, most likely due to the way many had looked down on her at the Healer Hall. While there was always a handful that would be kind and polite, and even encouraging, there were plenty who were quite the opposite. Thanks to this Eisu is not friendly to those who look to flirt with her. With the same concept in mind, many men will find it difficult to gain her trust let alone her friendship. Women is a different story as she naturally gives them her trust, and while its not nearly as difficult, they still find it a challenge to coax Eisu into a true friendship.
Where Elra formed a temper, Eisu formed frustration. If someone yells at her or argues with her, Eisu doesn’t get angry, but rather frustrated that she can’t manage to get the said person to see the way she does or to understand the importance of it. While her sister can get violent, Eisu gets upset and tends to walk away or becomes silent. It is her easy frustration with those who look for a reason to put her and her beliefs down that make Eisu one to easily give up as long as someone’s immediate health is not concerned.
Thankfully, while Eisu can become frustrated with many, she has a knack with children so long as the child is not completely vicious to her. Her gentle hands and kind voice tend to help the children, and the fact that she is a woman makes her appear just a little bit more like a mother and thus a naturally safe person to be around. Eisu would never complain to a child falling asleep on her shoulder. Children make her eyes dance.
History:
The Birth
It was spring, with the snow dripping from the branches of the trees and trickling down the side of the mountain. The little cothold, beholden to Crom was quiet as the dawn light shinned and sparkled on the water that seemed to be everywhere as the snow melted to give way to the newly sprouting grass. Such silence is never meant to last, however, and that beautiful morning was soon broken by the screams of a child brought into the world.
Elinei wrung his hands as the healer told him once again that he was not welcome into the room that had held his wife all night long in labor. The screams of the baby were both exciting and painful in his ears. The joy of finally having a child was overshadowed only with worry of his beautiful wife, Rahnasu. Why was it taking so long? He had been told by other men that they were allowed in after hearing the child. So why was he not allowed in now?
His pacing in the room next to the one his wife lay in was suddenly stopped as a midwife stepped through the door. Instantly Elinei tried to pass her to catch even a glimpse of his wife and instantly he was pushed back once more. What was different this time was that the screaming baby was suddenly disposed of into his arms. Jaw dropping, Elinei stared blankly at the baby wrapped in towels before looking up to find the midwife already gone.
The thing looked too fragile. Carefully he shifted it and walked to the window to take a closer look. It was beautiful, in that way that every baby was beautiful… In the warmth of the sunlight and the comfort of its father’s arms, the baby quieted, its little hands tucked against it. Elinei smiled and after short examination found it to be a baby girl. They already had a name chosen.
“Elra.” He said softly, watching the little baby sleep in exhaustion. Elinei’s smile quickly faded, however, as he suddenly found himself repeating events that had already happened that morning. Wait, he can’t be, Elra was already in his hands. Why was there a baby screaming for the first time in the room where his wife was?
Panic gripped him. Women always had many children, but never at the same time. Moving forward, he banged on the door as he carefully held the baby close to him. “What is the meaning of this? Where is Rahnasu?”
His cries were ignored however, until he opened the door himself, finally ready to face the wrath of the healers in exchange of any sort of news of what was going on. The scene he found was a midwife holding a second baby girl… identical to the one he was holding. Shock took a moment to wear off before Elinei’s eyes could wander the rest of the room where he found his wife with four people around her. Bloody towels were everywhere.
“Rahnasu! What’s wrong with her? Rahnasu!” Suddenly the baby in his arms wasn’t so important as Elinei became hysterical with worry. Two of the women along with the one holding the second Elra found themselves having to forcibly push him out once more. His cries and struggles woke Elra once again and the three all called out together in their own voices.
Candlemark’s later found Elinei white faced and with an empty stomach as he had been sick after hearing the news. Rahnasu had not made it through the labor – the cost of so many miscarriages then attempting to bare two children at once. While the healers told Elinei he was lucky to have the two daughters survive, he seemed to hear none of it. In fact, he couldn’t even bring himself to look upon the daughters.
The choice was made by Elinei’s parents, as Elinei had refused to discuss anything; that the children would be fostered out. His parents foresaw his heartache as a possibility to marry him to a more promising woman. The job was passed to the midwife to name the second child, who was given the name Eisu to match the simplicity of her sister’s name.
Eisu and Elra found a home some weeks later at the Healer Hall, their foster father being a Journeyman Healer and their foster mother a rather simple woman.
Childhood Playmates
Childhood was simple and pretty common to what other children grew up with, except each daughter had their best friend right from birth. While their foster mother was a simple woman who needed more help with the household chores than she could accomplish no her own, the daughters grew up to not mind helping in the least. In fact they found ways to make chores together into games. If they had to clean, they pretended they were cleaning for a grand ball and if they had to cook dinner, why they were cooking a feast for the Lord and Lady!
While their foster father, being far from simple minded, was unfortunately at work or studying more often than he was at home playing. When he was, though, they played fun, but intellectually challenging games. One that the twins enjoyed in their early turns was the finding game. Their foster father would choose a letter and they had to find an object that started with the letter. The game was initially started to help Elra with her spelling and it worked wonderfully, especially with Eisu being there to encourage her sister.
When their mother was distracted and their father not around, the two sisters didn’t have any problem entertaining themselves. If they were not pretending to be Ladies of the Hold or fierce Dragon Riders, they were playing doctor with their father’s spare equipment. There were also times they could be found beneath a tree, Eisu quietly helping Elra with the homework the Harper gave them or reading to her more athletic sister.
Different Paths
Reaching their teenage years, the two sisters found themselves at odds for the first time. While they have yet to be in a serious fight, the two were defiantly downhearted when they learned that each wished to continue schooling, but in different areas. Elra begged her smarter sister to join the Harper Craft with her, as Elra had always loved to sing and wanted so dearly to learn how to play any and all of those beautifully crafted instruments. Eisu, however, had her own heart set on joining the Healer Craft as there were so many more answers she longed for about life in general and it seemed the Healer Hall would be the place to find such answers.
After many disappointments, the two finally decided it was probably best to allow the other to follow their own dreams. The first few weeks apprenticed in different Halls was hard on the two who had been together since birth. It was not long before they made a point of seeking each other out in their spare time and study or simply relax together. It was a routine they finally managed to fall into.
Heroes
A changing point in their lives came on a summer night at a gather, and it changed them more than their decision to apprentice to different crafts. Attending the gather together, they had dressed alike more than happy to show off how identical they really were. Just like any gather, there was much drinking going on as well as dancing. While Eisu never touched the stuff, Elra had a few drinks and it was not long until she had finally parted with her sister to dance with the small number of men who were willing to pay her attention.
Eisu never minded watching her more spirited sister dance, and in fact she envied Elra’s ability to move. But as the night wore on, she became tired and finally left without a goodbye, unable to get ahold of her sister on the dance floor. Thankfully Elra did not take long to notice her sister had left and she followed shortly behind, for two men had followed Eisu out, believing her to be Elra.
Elra heard the cursing first and it stopped her dead in her tracks. Then, as if feeling the slap herself across her face, Elra ran toward the cursing to see one of the men had slapped Eisu. Eisu did not hesitate to knee the man where it hurt, however, and was quickly running. Being more athletic, Elra had no problem catching up to her sister. Dragging her into a doorway, she quickly whispered for her to hide and let her take care of it.
While Eisu never was one to ask Elra to do something for her, she was terrified of the men and the bruise was already showing on her cheek. Elra jumped back out of the doorway just in time for the men to catch sight of her. Being identical twins they were easy to confuse…
The next morning Elra made it back home with few marks on her, having been able to eventually outrun the heavier men. After that the two made a pact that they would come to each others aid, though Elra made her sweeter sister promise to let her take care of the physical problems while Eisu would take care of Elra afterwards or help Elra in other problems that needed more brains than brawn.
Since then Eisu has made a point of teaching Elra the pressure points she learned in her anatomy classes and Elra has come to Eisu’s rescue several times.
Today
Today the two sisters have momentarily parted ways. Rather suddenly, Elra had found herself searched by a Telgar searchrider. Elra was unable to shake the dream that she had a possibility of turning one of their childhood games into reality. She accepted the blue rider’s invitation.
Not at all sure if her sister would approve, however, after she had taken so long to warm to the idea of Elra being a Harper and not a healer like herself, Elra finally decided to tell her sister that she was leaving with a Master to perform in Ruthia Hold. She would write Eisu often and hopefully tell her the truth after she was able to prove she could be a dragon rider by impressing at the next hatching.
What Elra had not anticipated was Eisu doing so well on her journeyman tests. Three weeks after her sister Elra left, Eisu accepted her Journeyman Knots. After relentless hours of arguing with the masters who were reluctant to post a woman, they finally gave her a post at the slightly secluded Telgar Weyr. In all honesty, they expect her to give up the hardships of such a demanding post and ask to be brought back to the Healer Hall.
Eisu promised she’d to prove otherwise.
