Name:
Adreazioh(Pronounced by mother as “A-dree-ah-zoh”) Calls himself Ario (“ah-ri-o”)
Age:
16, still looks about 12(1039)
Gender:
Male
Rank:
Weyrling of Brown Austranth
Former Candidate of Telgar
Former Adopted Holder Of Telgar
Former Holdless Of Igen
Family:
Grandparents:
Unknown
Parents:
Hiscoben, Father, Former Steward, Holdless, Deceased
Siscibi, Former Drudge, Holdless, Presumed Deceased
Uncles and Aunts
Unknown
Adoptive:
Tengen, Foster Father, Holder, 37
Ebin, Foster Mother, Holder, 34
Sofea, Foster Sister, 14
Tesren, Foster Brother, 6
Gessie, Foster Sister, 5
Siblings:
His father had three legitimate children, two boy and a girl, by his wife while a Steward. When removed from his Hold after stealing Marks, his wife chose to stay with her children rather than follow her husband into the caves of Igen as a Holdless. Ario has never met these siblings, nor does he know their names.
Of the children his mother and father might have had in the cave, most miscarried, and the two that were birthed, one was stillborn, and the other died shortly after.
Appearance:
Blonde hair is raggedly cut, and long, covering eyebrows and a high forehead. It doesn’t cover his eyes, which are greenish blue, nor a nose that is fair sized in his face. His teeth are slightly crooked, and sometimes hurt so badly he can hardly move. His ears are decent sized, and look a little far back in his head.
A sickly child, his nose is often running, and his eyes are often crusted when he wakes up in the morning, he doesn’t scream healthy, but he’s survived thus far, and he’s started to look a little better ever since he started eating more.
His body is skinny and scrawny, and he looks turns younger than he actually is. His skin is very, very pale, which some might think is not possible when he lives in Igen. However, as Ario has never had a job that required him to expose himself to the sunlight, and the caves where he spent most of his days in, are dark, it’s really no surprise- after all, most work at Igen happens at night. He’s also short, hardly reach the 5’1 he claims.
Personality:
A true survivor, Adreazioh has been doing everything he could to live another day since he was born. A sickly baby, he in turn became a sickly kid- this might have worked to his advantage as he’d already had lesser infections of the sickness that allowed him to survive(though barely) the first plague, as well as the next one.
He has a quick nervous way of talking, and is highly intelligent. He can, with a great deal of effort, almost sound like Holder’s child- if the person he is talking to is very drunk. For the most part, he uses Holdless Cant(Something that in no way resembles a normal way of talking), and the twisted version of Pernese English. He has exceedingly bad accents from every part of Pern- most Holdess end up in the Igen Holdless Caves, after all.
Hungry every moment of every day, of nearly his entire life, Ario will, if he can, overeat to an outrageous point. When first allowed into the household of Tengen, they allowed him to fill up his own plate, and discovered that was a bad idea. He ate himself sick, and wanted more- since, he’s been given a plate, and not allowed any extra, and Ario doesn’t disobey for fear of loosing precious food.
Food is more important than family, and Ario would probably sell out his best friend for a good meal. Though some might find fat a slight turn off, Adreazioh finds it fascinating, and would love to be a fat man.
With eyes that still unconsciously check to see the difficulty of stealing something, Adreazioh tries not to steal anything from his new family. Or from the people he’s made to work with, but it’s very difficult, and with food, it’s almost instinctive that he takes a piece or so of whatever’s left laying about.
Ario is also defensive, noisy, playful, and almost manic with his emotions. He’s never learned decorum, or how many times a week you should bath, nor to clean your face before coming to dinner, and it shows through.
He loves being warm, and having small chubby children who laugh at him, even if they don’t understand what he’s saying, and cuddle with him, and he likes cats, and dogs, and even ovines and bovines. The beastcrafter who he usually works with has claimed that if Ario had come earlier, he would have sponsored the boy into Beastcraftery himself.
Having never been exposed to love, acceptance, or food that didn’t come at a price, Ario is suspicious of anyone who offers them, and makes sure that he repays debts so that no one can call them up at bad times.
Adreazioh doesn’t kiss on the mouth. He’s old enough that he’s had some experience with girls, and has decided that kissing on the mouth is a bad idea. For one, mouths taste and smell awful when you don’t brush them. Also, it makes it easier to steal from you, or blind you to the large hulking man who is going to bash your brain in, or by virtue of a bitten tongue, keep you from moving fast enough to avoid said bashing.
Ario’s ambition in life is tohave keep his warm clothes, good food, and keep the lack of an immediate fear of being thrown back into the Holdless camps.
History:
Ario would like to claim that he was the son of a very close family, but nothing could be farther from the truth. His mother, a drudge, was very impressed by the fancy Steward, and ended up with a child who survived- her one and only. His father, brokenhearted about loosing his precious wife, cared not about some meaningless drudge he knocked up, and only a very little more for his son.
His mother, for all her faults, tried to take care of her son, but the woman truly needed someone to take care of her. Not knowing how to speak any better than the Holdless who’d been Holdless a generation or two, she couldn’t teach her son the language that would allow himself to free himself from the Holdless space he’d been born into, and Adreazioh was raised with the expectation that this was as good as it was going to get.
As soon as he was old enough to think at all, he realized his mother got even less food than the other Holdless, having no skill to earn food or marks- instead he joined up with a gang of ratty boys and girls(Th’ T’n’ll’Sna’k’s) who got food anyway they could.
He was taught Holdless Cant, and how to steal a man blind without the man noticing. He ran errands, and tried to figure out to get himself out of the caves, and realized it would be useless.
When the first Sickness hit, the Caves smelled like rotting bodies for months. Nearly every old and young person died- three of newest members of The Tunnelsnakes died. Several other members didn’t recover from the sickness, and died weeks later from a different sickness.
Ario himself, always sick, got sick during the sickness, and while he was close to death at points, he didn’t die. With a great deal of the people from Hold and Holdless alike dead, the survivors came into a deal of extra food. The Igen Lord gave all spoiling foodstuffs out to the Holdless, because he didn’t have enough Holders to eat it all.
That was a good time, but it didn’t last long. When the last food was eaten, life was back to the way it had always been. Less people were in the Caves, and the remaining Tunnelsnakes were able to get more jobs, despite lacking the speed and strength they’d had before the Sickness.
There was more food for a while, and perhaps there would have even been a baby boom at some point, for children could be born on the amount of food they had at that point, but it was all for naught as the second wave of sickness hit.
His father, who’d survived the first wave of sickness, was struck down quickly, and Ario figures his mother was as well, though he hadn’t seen or heard from her since he’d left to join a gang. He merely thinks she’s dead, and before the sickness, someone would have found him and told him she was dead.
Of the once proud Tunnelsnakes, only six survived both waves of the Sickness. As they tried to decide which gang to join then, rumors of Telgar Hold taking in Holdless who would swear their very lives to Telgar- and to the Holdless, even the lowly position of a drudge would be better than where they were.
When actual recruiters came to speak to certain Holdless- Ario wasn’t sure exactly how they decided who to approach, but he was spoken too. After finding out whose son he was, the interview became easier for the boy. Still shocked that recruiters could speak more than Holder talk, he let more be known than he should have, and while he is unaware that his foster family knows about his perchance for stealing, they do.
When taken by convoy back to Telgar, Ario was scrubbed, had his hair cut, and given clothing that was more cloth than patches, and given to his new family.
They’d lost most of their older children, though they’d been spared the younger ones. Ario was taken in, and while for the most part, his family has no idea what he’s talking about, they treat him well, and make sure he’s given enough to eat- and they keep him from overeating.
They live at the main Hold, and Ario is never allowed to work with anything valuable- like a server at mealtimes. Instead they have him work in the fields, and at first the kitchen- after realizing that was a bad idea, they had him with with animals, and while it’s apparent he’s good with kids(his Foster Siblings being a good example), no one wants to let him near any impressionable children.
He’s starting to be more confident, and due to the lessons with the harper, his language is starting to loose it’s incomprehensibility. Sometimes people can almost understand him before he goes off on into mime mode.
Life is better than it’s ever been, and there isn’t any way it could get better
Edit:
But life did get better. While working in the immense herd of Telgar, Dragons landed, and while Telgar had issued a limited Search to the Holders, Adreazioh was deemed unimportant enough to be Searched. And Searched he was, by a beautiful green dragon. Then he was brought to the Weyr, and while it’s large, and confusing, it is worth it. For Adreazioh, son of a disgraced Steward and a Drudge, Impressed to Austranth, a Brown of impeccable linage.
And so, he’s a Weyrling now, and desperately trying to keep his Brown satisfied, and feeling happier than he has ever been, in his entire life.

Name:
Austranth
Age:
1
Color:
Brown
Appearance:
A decent sized Brown, his rider is very impressed with his size. While he’s more agile than a bronze, Austranth will never be major competion for the Blues. He’s built on lanky lines, and stretches like a feline. His brown is a fading dark brown, that fades into sunshine, shadows, and night. He looks soft, like a brown velvet, and feels almost as good as he looks.
Personality:
While not shy, Austranth doesn’t like attracting too much attention. His rider’s fear of being too public has infected the brown, leaving him to admit that sometimes it’s better not to attract to much attention at the risk of attracting the wrong kind of attention.
In his open heart, the brown does his best to defend his Rider, knowing the boy has more trouble than him. Austranth learned to speak from other dragons, and thus, is a better speaker than his rider. Whenever possible, he speaks for the pair, better able to make their wishes heard: not that he would ever dream of speaking to a non-dragon other than his rider. He tries very hard to make sure no one thinks poorly of A’drazo, and loves eating and sleeping just as much as his rider.
History:
Once hatched, Austranth strolled lazily over to his rider, bonding them for life. He was fed(as was his rider- on the same food as himself), and they’ve spent the last turn getting to know each other better. Much of their time is spent conversing, and Austranth trying to help his rider understand normal speech better, though it’s had a nice effect on their bond.
Austranth has no complains about his life, though he’s glad that a bronzerider showed A’drazo how to scrub, oil, and otherwise bath. Life is much better now.
