Tempus Fugit - An Adventurous Pern One hundred turns into the Sixth Interval, Pern is quiet. The plague is gone, though not forgotten; ballads celebrating Moreta, her colleagues and kin are experiencing a revival of popularity after a sixty-turn slump. Economies are generally in upswing and the crafthalls thrive, but in the last two decades the storerooms at Weyrs have begun to seem a little bare. No one's hungry yet, but tithe is not what it used to be, and dragonriders regularly work as messengers and carriers of cargo for their beholden areas in order to maintain quality relations with their Holds. At Telgar Weyr, the trials of Interval have been compounded by a situation more common during Pass: a sudden influx of travelers. The Caminar, a loosely-knit clan of traders particular to Telgar's southern territory and some of Igen's, have been flowing into the Weyr wagon by wagon since the snow began to melt. At first it seemed the traders were just coming to do their business, but it's well into summer and the caravans show no signs of leaving. Since the newcomers have already sold to the Weyr everything it could want from them, to many locals it seems that the traders have no purpose at the Weyr but to eat Telgari food and take up Telgari space. Matters were not improved when the queen's mating flight months ago inspired a rowdy invasion of the lower caverns by the young men of the Caminar. Weyr objectors from wingleaders to cooks have complained about the situation to the Weyrleader J'fel, demanding that he turn the outsiders out. Accustomed to deferring in domestic matters to his Weyrwoman Aderes and the Weyr's staff, J'fel has stalled, claiming that hospitality becomes a Weyr - even when Thread's not falling. And the wagons haven't stopped coming - though with the latest group of travelers came an explanation at last: the traders are fleeing persecution in the holds' lands. Children have been going missing out there, it seems, and the trader folk have been unjustly blamed. With a new class of weyrlings and failed candidates choosing to remain for a future clutch swelling the Weyr's population, supplies are at a premium. Holdfolk and weyrfolk alike wonder why the Weyr's been so slow and so quiet about investigating the missing children, and there's been talk of involving Harper Hall. The pressure's on: will anyone break? Tempus Fugit is a Dragonriders of Pern roleplaying game designed to permit a wide variety of character types, a vast world in which players may subject their characters to a variety of experiences, and mind-bending plots whose outcomes may not become clear - and in fact are rarely determined - until the PCs have played their roles. The game's setting is currently close to canon. At Tempus Fugit, the actions of PCs will change Pern's history.
Sooner than they think.

August 2008: Weyrling RP is riding high with several threads highlighting weyrling life and dragon development. Check 'em out in the newsbox - several are open to non-weyrlings, too. (Anything 'open' that's not happening in the Weyrling Barracks is especially fair game!)
Our plot in the Sixth Pass is starting to come clear - or is it? The arrival of the Weyrleader M'tani might make the work of our adventurers more interesting - but his reputation precedes him, and the chances that he's going to make their work easier seem slim. The outcomes of these events are not predetermined - we encourage involved players to take risks and be bold, and for others to read and try to imagine how these events in the past might affect the present!
Just a few of many ways to get started right now: Weyrlings from our recent A Moment In Time clutch are available for adoption! A few girls riding green may be applied for and will be impressed as a result of plot progression. Wanted: Sailors and holdfolk from our story arc, set 'back in time' during the Sixth Pass!

On the fifteenth day of the 11th month, after over four months absent from Telgar Weyr on mysterious business of the Weyrleader's, the wingsecond P'nset, wingrider G'tet, and Caminar Aleda returned to Telgar Weyr. With them came an unknown brown and his rider as well as another non-rider, a woman. On this day several other interesting events occurred. The wide majority of Telgar Weyr - indeed, the wide majority of Pern - has no idea that anything changed; these people are unaware of the fact that history has changed, for as far as they remember it hasn't. The world has just always been this way (and for details about how it is, see the State of Pern and Timeline posts - they've changed!). For a select few, however, the fifteenth day of the eleventh month was likely the strangest day of their lives. For these people, it seems that they simply woke up one day and found the world just changed. Suddenly Telgar Weyr was home to three women riding green dragons, two of them weyrlings. Suddenly the Weyr's territory was said to be rife with gambling dens and runner races. Suddenly M'tani was a hero. In fact the only big things that seemed to be the same were bad ones (most would say): The Caminar were still camped out in the Weyr's bowl, and the Holds and Halls of the region still seemed to be missing a significant number of kidnapped children. These poor confused souls include about half of the Weyr's current weyrling class, a small handful of dragonriders, and all members of the party that J'fel sent to stop the plague (or investigate missing children, as many believe), returned or not. This is a great time to join Tempus Fugit. New characters from new walks of life (casino sharks, anyone?) and traditional (riders, including some ranking positions, crafters, weyrfolk and all the rest) will find it easy to get involved in this RP-rich time. It's also easy to get 'caught up' with just a little reading - check out the State of Pern and some standard character/profile information and you're well on your way! Characters established now will be poised to be involved in upcoming plot arcs - and we're planning a hatching within the next IC year. Join today!
