Character
Name: Eamon
Rank: Journeyman Harper
Gender: Male
Age: 29
Origin: Fort Hold, Harper Hall
Appearance: A tall but slim figure, Eamon is a Harper through and through. He is not a muscular type, being a willowy, lanky man with precious little strength to boast, but he is not weak either. The man has decent muscle on that sinuous build, but nothing too impressive to speak about. The journeyman reaches the height of 6'2", and because of this stature he looks very scrawny. But, he is just a lanky man with a good height. He is relatively tanned from his journeys abroad, but whereas he used to be very browned, he is now just a deep tan, since he has spent the last few turns at Telgar. He has spent a fair amount of time outdoors, but not as much as he has indoors studying and playing.
An intelligent man, the Harper looks the part with white-blonde hair and lovely dark eyes, shadowed gray when he is merry and black when he is serious or angry. Eamon was born with his hair, though many seem to think it is sun-bleached, his mother birthed him that way. It is an ironic thing, since both he and his sister were born that way, but neither of their parents can boast such a color. Perhaps it is a trait from a grandfather. A face to match his body, the journeyman has a more slim face than many men, without a strong jaw or hard lines. It is slim, but not gaunt or unattractive, with a more gentle look, yet not feminine. He has the face of an aristocrat, really, and almost has the haughty look of a lord. His eyes betray a Harper’s kindness, though. His pale hair is long, reaching almost to his elbows, but is always pulled back at the nape of his neck and tied.
Harper blue is, naturally, his favorite color, and his clothing reflects that. A man of knowledge, not war, Eamon wears comfortable clothing that makes him look good. Long turtlenecks and tucked leggings make up most of his clothing, with some heavy jackets and cloaks for cool weather. He likes boots, however, and will never, never be seen wearing sandals. He hates them with a bloody, bloody passion, and has even joked that is why he was never Searched as a child. He would refuse to wear sandals for the Impression. The Harper does wear other colors, however rarely, and if not in blue, you will find his clothing something of an earth tone, like brown, black or tan, with a few dashes of green and yellow here or there, and white when he wants to impress. Red clashes with his light hair, orange makes his hair look too washed-out, and purple is too gaudy for his tastes. He is rather meticulous about his appearance. Eamon wears no weapons, either, though he does have a knife tucked into his boot for cutting things and keeping his nails trimmed. It is in his right boot, since he is right-handed.
Family:
Granddame—Ela (73): Once a drudge at the Harper Hall, her son now cares for her and she stays with his family. She worked hard as a single mother to provide Klamon with a good life, and so he deeply respects her. She is short and very thin, with grey hair attesting to her age.
Father--Klamon (51): A harper Master, he resides at the Harper Hall and composes ballads of teachings songs and instructs many Apprentices. He looks up to the Masterharper and respects him deeply. He has dark hair and bright eyes of brown, with the same build his son inherited from him. He certainly has a talent for words and a persuasive tongue, and seems to have a penchant for getting his way. Though many turns from his youth, he is still sharp as he ever was, and has a quick mind and shrewd way. He does not look to ever be Masterharper, though his voice is quite enchanting, there are others with even higher skill.
Mother--Yuvlana (45): Once at drudge at the Harper Hall, she found favor in Journeyman Klamon’s sight and married him. Elevated thanks to his status, she now enjoys being a housewife and spending the money her husband brings in. She is a kind woman, and loves her husband dearly and would never do anything to hurt him. She has long blonde hair and pretty eyes, which is what drew the Harper to her in the first place. She traveled with him during his journeyman status, which only proved her loyalty. She is enjoying some well-earned comforts now back at the Hall.
Sister—Lana (29): Eamon’s twin, she has the same build, eyes and hair as her brother, except her eyes are a lighter gray. She has inherited her mother’s sweet temperament, which she can attribute her marriage to. Apprentice Harper Delor thought the girl was lovely, and being a student of Klamon saw her frequently. After asking her father for her hand, they were married humbly. Lana’s future is now secure with a Harper for a husband, who adores her above everything. She likes to spend her days watching children while Delor is with Klamon.
Sexual Orientation: Straight as an arrow
Personality: More than just a Harper by appearance, Eamon is a true Harper by nature. He has an undeniable gift with words and a clever tongue, and a talent for getting his way. He is much like his father. When he speaks, every word comes out in a smooth, cool tone, and his voice flows like water over marble. He sounds elegant and cultured, and can be very convincing when he so wishes. Of course, as a Harper, his smooth, unruffled reputation is something that he was taught, not bred with. The true Eamon is a simple man with a decent, stark personality, but as a Harper he has been molded to be more. People naturally listen to him, which is why he appears to have such a knack for bending everything to his opinion. He has his own amount of pride in his talents, and he is at times too confident.
Good at hiding his emotions, Eamon never lets anyone know how they are making him feel. He never shows anger, sadness, irritation, or unhappiness outside of a very tight circle of trusted acquaintances. He is too much of a diplomatic one to show such weaknesses. However, because of his emotional rein, he appears very tactful and cool, which leads more of those in power to lend him their trust, or at least their ear once in a while. The journeyman has a way with words that lends to this. He is, however, open with his merriment and amusement, and will be the first to laugh at a well-spun jest or pun. Cool and collected, Eamon still likes to have fun and is, in turn, a fun guy to be around, when he is not playing the diplomat, anyway.
Being a Harper, he almost leads a double life. When relaxing, he likes to have fun and joke around, but before the Lords and aristocrats, he appears cool and completely together. Eamon knows the only way to get a noble’s ear is to impress them, which is why he is the epitome of Harper decorum around them. Being a journeyman, he is well-used to this two-sided life, and plays it well. He knows etiquette, and follows propriety and decorum, especially around ladies. Faranth forbid he insult one of them.
Still, Eamon would rather be with some friends having a good time than trying to impress the holders, considering his passion for music outweighs even his ambition to become a famous harper. He had many peers at the Hall that he spent much of his time with, and they practiced together many a time. Spinning melodies and weavings words is his favorite pastime. Though, he can still be considered the social type, for as a Harper he is naturally good with people. Most consider him a kind individual to meet, and it has been said by more than one person that he gives good advice. As far as his passions outside of music, the journeyman reads a lot, and he especially enjoys studying the history records of the Holds he visits. He likes people too, and he is not above sharing a good drink…or two….or three, with some acquaintances. He is not a fan of quickal, though, but he does enjoy wine of many vintages and can hold it pretty well. A drunken Eamon is not something that is oft seen. He makes friends easily, but there are very few that can consider themselves close to the Harper. Eamon does not open himself easily.
Hobbies/Skills: Eamon can claim talent on many instruments, and can practically play anything he picks up. He plays by ear instead of hide music, and picks up melodies by listening to them a few times. The journeyman spends the time he has alone writing his own songs, and is composing a ballad that he is comparing to Moreta’s Ride. He compares himself to the best, so he harshly critiques his own work. The Harper’s skills all lay within his Craft.
Pets: None.
History: Eamon was born into the Harper Craft. His father, Klamon, never knew his own father, because he left his wife when the Harper was only ten months old. Klamon has never forgiven him, and to this day still does not know what happened to the man. Nor does he care. His mother, Ela, was left to fend for herself, but found it easily done. Already working as a drudge in the Harper Hall, she had a future set before her, albeit a grim one, and a crèche to leave her son in during the day. She has never told her son what his father looked like or what kind of man he was, but it was a wide-spread fact that he had been a Harper as well. Although, it seemed that many were sour at the man for leaving the Hall and his wife without any warning, and he is rarely spoken of, and never in a good way.
Klamon aided his mother when he grew old enough, but it was not long before his father’s talent manifested itself in him as well. At an early age, he was apprenticed to one of the Master Harpers, and grew in skill until he himself matched that rank. He married Yuvlana when he was 23 turns of age, and she 16 turns. The woman, who was a very sweet and gentle girl, gave birth to twins that very turn, but was extremely sick during her pregnancy. She nearly died in giving birth to the twins, and has never been pregnant since, a fact that she mourned until recently. Now she is too old to want more children of her own.
Their mother cared for Lana and Eamon lovingly, though she was a bit over-protective since they were the only babies she could call her own. Eamon, like his father and grandfather, was a talent discovered early, especially since Klamon was eager to teach his son to follow in his footsteps. Lana, though possessing a lovely voice, was never taken into the Craft, for though her voice was pretty, it was not exceptional, and that was required for a female to enter a craft. She took after her mother, and before long another of her father’s students want her for his own. A good man with a gentle heart, Klamon liked the boy and gave him his daughter, whom Delor adores more than anything.
When Eamon was promoted to Journeyman, he first set out for Benden Hold, partially because it was the first Hold his father had visited as a journeyman, and partially because he wanted to see the famed vineyards. After playing there a few turns, he then traveled to Crom as a messenger for one of the Lord’s daughters that had earned his favor, but there he was not as comfortable. There is bad blood between him and Lord Holder to this day, though he has told no one of the disagreements they had about the riders and Thread. He stayed there a mere half-turn before taking his leave. He traveled back to Benden, then to Ista to explore the beaches and enjoy the sun, and even spent a couple of months at Bitra. He wanted more than anything to be a well-learned, well-traveled harper.
In the recent turn, Eamon traveled to Telgar Hold, though he was slightly reserved about visiting a Hold that had close ties to Crom. Though, no one has brought up the bad blood between the Harper and Lord yet. Though a smooth operator, the Harper has yet to establish any substantial ties between himself and the lord or lady, but he looks to gain their audience and favor some time soon. He has also paid close attention to the tithing trains, and does not like what he sees. Eamon is a supporter of the Weyr, and looks to push for them, even though the Weyrleaders probably do not know he exists.
