Character Info:
Name: Sh'dan, from Shadan. ((This name seems familiar from one of the books. If you recognize it, tell me and I'll figure out a new one. It's from a Sanskrit name "Shadan" meaning "cheerful; prosperous," which I rather though described the char.))
Age: 29, birthed in 1024.
Gender: Male
Rank: Zahra Wingsecond
Family: His mother, Sharan, is a rough, tough, no-nonsense kind of lady. She brought her boys, and others' boys too, up right to be fine, upstanding members of the weyr. She is a lower-caverns lady, lover to many dragonriders in her time, and mother to only sons. She never has had a daughter, though she wishes she would have. Sharan has six sons, from ages thirty-two to twenty, and Sh'dan is her second oldest and second to Impress. All of her sons except one have Impressed a dragon, from Green to Bronze. The one who didn't is a journeyman smith. Sharan herself is well-loved by most everyone who meets her. She gives the air of authority without being on a constant power-trip, and she loved children. She doubts she will ever retire from taking care of the Weyr's children, and no one wants her to quit. Even children who are not her own love her very much.
Sh'dan hasn't always gotten along well with his brothers, but they all have decent relationships with each other. His best relationship is with his youngest brother (the greenrider of the bunch), but he and his blueriding brother often have temper flares with each other over the pranks that Sh'dan likes to pull.
His oldest brother is R'ran, who is thirty-two. He is a brownrider. Stable and sturdy as the day is long, R'ran is the man to go to with a problem. He is known as a peacemaker and is very trustworthy. He is perfectly mated to Kilra, a greenrider.
Next in line is Sh'dan himself, the only bronzerider of the six.
Sh'lod is his next brother, and he is two years younger than Sh'dan. They have the same father. He is a bluerider with a bit of a sparky temper; he is well-suited in Pyralis Wing. He, like their mother, moves from lover to lover. It is doubtful that he will ever settle down.
Sh'wren is the next brother yet, and he is twenty-four. He rides brown, like his oldest brother, and has always looked up to R'ran. When they were kids, Sh'wren (then Shawren) played tag-a-long to R'ran constantly. But the older boy was very good about it, and sometimes claims in jest that the only reason Sh'wren Impressed brown was because R'ran did.
The oddball of the bunch is Ranrin, who is a very talented journeyman smith. Most smiths are twenty-five or -six before they get their rank-up; Ranrin had been trained in the weyr, in the smithy, at a very young age, just in case he didn't Impress. It turned out to be a good choice on Sharan's part to educate her boys in this way; Ranrin is a very successful smith. He is twenty-two and highly intelligent and mature for his age.
The youngest of them all is S'sren, a greenrider of twenty years. He is flighty, flirty, and sweet, and one of Sh'dan's favorite brothers. He's one of those genuinely nice people that most people have to learn to like because at first, he seems too good to be real. He has not settled because he hasn't found anyone he feels like he could be a lifemate with, although he has many lovers.
Sh'dan's father, L'odan, is of little consequence in Sh'dan's life. He is also the father of Sh'dan's next youngest brother, Sh'lod. Sh'dan knows who his father is, and doesn't harbor any resentment toward him. But to Sh'dan, L'odan is just another rider in a group of riders. Were L'odan in Sh'dan's wing, he'd give orders to him just like any other rider.
Appearance:
((Until I get home to resize this pic... www.iballer.com/malecelebs/carnes/images/c21_jpg.jpg ))
Basic stats of Sh'dan? He stands at six feet even, weighs 179 pounds, and has a medium to large frame. He has light blonde hair, bluish-grey eyes, a good complexion, and he has teeth, thank Faranth. However, if you get to look closer at Sh'dan, you'll see a little sepia in the blonde, you'll see intricate designs in his blue-grey eyes, you'll see a little fat to the muscle, and you'll notice a natural curve to his frame. He takes personal hygiene very seriously, and his smile is as brightly white as possible on Pern. He is what he considers to be very handsome.
He wears brown shades and blue shades. His everyday work-clothes, when not wearing his leathers, are very practical. He wears brown so that spots don't show so badly, and he wears good thick boots to protect his feet. He wears one piece of jewelry, a stone connected to a length of black cording. The stone is black onyx--nothing special, but sentimental to him. It was given to him by his youngest brother as a gift.
His gather-wear is only a little more intense. He wears a deep royal blue that brings out his eyes, and he wears black boots. The shirt he often wears to important events and Gathers is the royal blue, and he wears matching pants or sometimes black pants. The belt is black and has a silver buckle in the shape of, what else but, a dragon. He gets a little dressy, but because he always looks nice, it can be a little difficult to distinguish.
Personality: Sh'dan, like most in his wing, appreciates a good joke. His humor runs more to pranks than actual joke-telling, and he orchestrates many of the misdeeds done by the Zahra Wing. He does know the limit however, and always tries to stop just short of actually hurting someone, whether it be physically or emotionally. He's messed up once or twice, of course, and apologized all over himself.
He has a very big sense of right and wrong. A more experienced person would call this a conscience. Sh'dan can always tell when he's done something wrong or gone too far, and he will do anything to win back the offended person's good opinion. His sense of justice is equally as large, and he believes that a punishment should fit the crime.
That being said, he's fairly easy-going as well. He likes to just hang out and have a good time. He's had many casual lovers, never anything too serious, and he knows he has children. Little Kreshad running around the creche looks too much like Sh'dan to be anyone else's, and Sh'dan had won the boy's mother in a greenflight.
Sh'dan is a great appreciator of women. He likes them in all shapes and sizes, from tall and slender to short and voluptuous. The bronzerider is a big fan of athleticism, though, and as such, doesn't like his women too skinny or too overweight. He wants them to be able to keep up with him...when running. ((*winks*)) He approves of women on fighting dragons; he says that keeps them fit.
On a deeper level, the man is very dedicated to his wing. There is no greater pleasure or honor than flying on Kendith in the Zahra wing, and they both dearly love their wingmates. Sh'dan considers the wingleader, E'riol, a very near and dear friend, and he would do anything for him. The Zahra wing has the reputation of being the cleverest tricksters around...but they are also incredibly hardworking under E'riol. "Professional jesters," "quickest dimwits," "Rule Makers/Benders," Sh'dan has heard all the euphemisms and agrees with most all of them. But belittle or wrongfully critisize his wing, and you'll quickly meet a very angry, very eloquent bronzerider. Sh'dan has a great love and understanding of words and their usage and is not afraid to use them to knock abusers off of their high runners. There isn't anything Sh'dan wouldn't do for the wing.
He likes to flirt, and all that, but he also likes to read and learn. As a weyrling, he had a reputation for annoying the weyrlingmaster with all of his questions. Sh'dan constantly questions the order of things, and only when he is satisfied that he completely understands how something works will he stand back, cross his arms, and nod his agreement.
But Sh'dan is not all roses and sunrays. He can be moody, cunning, sly, too inquisitive, nervous, tense, and superficial. He likes logic a little too much, and won't fight an argument based on emotion, even if someone is trying to argue with him. If things aren't going his way, or the way he perceives they ought to go, he can get sullen and quiet, and he tenses up like no other. His shoulders and lower back often show how tense he is; he knots up in those places when he gets upset. He's not always nice, and he can get rather spicy.
On a lighter note, the man likes fruit juices above any alcohol, although he'll never say no to a good Benden vintage. He likes fish and wherry the best of food, and herdbeast the least, although, like with the wine, he'll never say no to a good medium-rare steak. He likes fruits over vegetables, bubbly-pies over meatrolls, and white wine over red. He very much has a sweet-tooth, and he would probably live off of red-fruit juice and bubbly pies, if he was allowed to. Unfortunately, he has the ladies of the lower cavern making sure he eats what they say is "right." Sh'dan just scoffs and does what they say, with a good wink in hand for the ladies.
History: Sh'dan was born as Shadan to Sharan and L'odan at Telgar Weyr. He was always a pretty happy baby, if a little loud and obnoxious. L'odan never had much to do with his son, and it reflects in their lack of relationship today. But Shadan was loved enough for his father by his mother. She spent a lot of time and energy on her boys, and he was no exception.
By age five, he already had three brothers. They were all a rambunctious group, even Ranran, who was widely considered already to be a very mature and well-behaved boy. They liked to play around and play hide and seek in the lower caverns. The boys played with most of the other children and had a perfectly happy childhood. It's one of the reasons why they all grew up to be so successful, and even the bad apple of the group, blueriding Sh'lod, has a great sense of responsibility and a good set of morals.
Age twelve came quickly enough, and he found himself standing for Impression on the Telgarian sands. That first Hatching was a completely new experience for the boy, and he found that no matter how much the Weyr tried to prep him for standing, he was nowhere near ready to stand. A blue hatchling came towards him, and came crashing into him. He fell to the ground, scratched, bloody, and with a large gash running down his leg. The dragonet was helped up by another boy and was Impressed by him, and Shadan was left standing for seven more long years before he found his love.
At age fifteen, he dated a female of some importance in his life. Her name was Lolina, and she was also fifteen. They were candidates together. She was the best girl the young lad knew, next to his mother, and he knew it was love. Then, one hatching, they stood together, and she Impressed her green. She moved on, and he was left behind. Their link stretched and thinned until one day, it just ended.
Shadan was left broken-hearted and angry at the world, in the typical teenage angsty way. He refused to stand at the next hatching, choosing instead to sit in the stands and watch as a way of protest. His mother was furious. "What, exactly, are you protesting, Son? And you better answer correctly, or I'll have your hide!" When Shadan couldn't think of a good enough answer, she threw her hands up and sighed at him. "You should be ashamed of yourself. What if you lost your lifemate today to someone else?" Shadan was properly chastised, and he learned from the experience the best he could.
At age nineteen, he stood for yet another Hatching, and managed to Impress bronze Kendith. He was just standing, arms crossed on his chest in boredom, and staring off into the distance when a rough-and-tumble dragonet ran into him. The little dragonet left a gash on his other leg, though in the same spot as the original slash from his first hatching. He still has scars on his shins from both injuries. My name is Kendith.
"OWCH! What? Your name is what? Sorry," he said, eyes beginning to faze as he started to understand the little bronze's mind and thoughts. The two minds meshed.
Kendith, the little bronze replied, a trifle irritated. Start paying attention to me, he said, headbutting the candidate's legs.
"Could you NOT do that?" now-Sh'dan asked.
Kendith ignored him. I'm hungry. Feed me.
"Demanding little thing, aren't you?" he replied, but on his face was the largest smile ever. In the very old and very cliche way, he yelled, "His name is Kendith!"
The two were decent at most things during weyrling training. They weren't usually first to anything, or worst at anything, but rather, they had their talents and deficients. They were the second or third flying, and the fifth betweening on a regular basis. Kendith is also a fairly large bronze, so they were often used for carrying things around.
Sh'dan proved his worth to the Zahra wingleader soon after being adopted into the wing. He was with Zahra for about six years before he was raised to Wingsecond rank. The wingsecond he replaced was a rather older man, who retired to simple Weyr-watching duties. Sh'dan took his place with great gusto, and made his first real duty as Wingsecond to play a practical joke on his wingmates. It won him a lot of friends and just a tad bit of respect in the station, and he's enjoyed good popularity ever since.

Dragon Info:
Name: Kendith
Age: 10
Color: Bronze
Appearance: Kendith is a copper-bronze. Naturally, since he was the only bronze among his clutch-mates, he was the largest hatchling, but he is also a fairly large bronze. He is perfectly proportionate, and his elegant limbs are muscular. His legs are lightly dappled with specks of brown and green, but he is obviously a bronze.
Personality: Kendith appears to be a reflection of Sh'dan, but he also has his own quirks that endear him to others. Like Sh'dan, he tends to be joyful and cheerful, but he can also be perverse and just as moody as the rider. He is very much a simplified version of Sh'dan, and he reflects the pride in the Wing that Sh'dan has.
The bronze likes to fly with his rider above all else. He likes chasing greens and golds with equal abandon, and is a shameless flirt in and out of mating. That is where he differs with Sh'dan, who just doesn't flirt all the time like Kendith does.
He likes carrying things, since he knew that at a young age. He just loves the way things feel in his pendactyl claws, and he likes being strong enough to lift anything he thinks he can.
History: The bronze broke the egg with a few good hard taps of his head, and rolled out a little less than gracefully. After a good shake to get all the goo off of his delicate and fragile wings, he stood and headed toward all the energy in the room. His eyes cleared and he noticed all the boys standing in white clothing. There! There was one off to the side. The energy from him was different than the rest...the dragonet approached him, but the boy still did not notice. Kendith stumbled over his own claws and managed to gash the boy's leg open. My name is Kendith.
"OWCH! What? Your name is what? Sorry," the boy said, beginning to understand that Kendith wanted him. His eyes glazed over and he mumbled something or the other. Kendith ignored it and repeated himself.
Kendith. Start paying attention to me, he said, headbutting the candidate's legs.
"Could you NOT do that?" the boy-- Sh'dan--asked.
Kendith ignored him. I'm hungry. Feed me.
"Demanding little thing, aren't you?" The boy sounded proud though, and Kendith couldn't imagine what there was to be proud of. "His name is Kendith!"
The two progressed into Weyrlinghood, which Kendith liked. He liked to learn all the new things, and his favorite thing was learning to fly. He had a good time learning betweening as well, and he made many friends in those two years.
As an adult dragon, Kendith has never caught a gold, but he has won several greenflights. He likes to keep his rider on edge, and so sometimes, he won't fly a green just to throw Sh'dan off. But he always chases the golds. He's a bronze of the Weyr; its expected of him.
