Ortath slept soundly on his ledge and while they had not been allowed to do much bathing at least not more than a couple dragons at a time, to avoid human congregating, his hide was doing alright. K'dyn however, was not. He hadn't seen anyone except at a distance for three days now and he was bored. Bored, bored, bored. If only he could sneak down the corridor to Kanoni's weyr without being heard.
Sadly E'riol knew his wing well and had someone watching the corridor to make sure no one was disobeying the quarantine. Ortath was too far along in sleep to wake now. He'd been arguing with himself all evening about whether to find a way out or not. He'd come to the conclusion he wouldn't lie in a cage waiting to become ill and die. Instead he opened his door so that it would not squeak as it sometimes did.
The guard's light was dim and he heard the soft sound of snoring coming from that direction. Luckily Kanoni lived the opposite way down the hall. K'dyn walked with practiced stealth down to the greenrider's room. Lightly tapping on the door, he hoped she was awake. If anyone caught him, at least he had tried and he would once again be pegged as the one who couldn't stay out of trouble.

I still say we just fly over a few ledges and see him.
"There's no way we'll ever make it, Yanth, there's watchriders everywhere! We'll get caught, and I don't want to be punished, not again." Kanoni shuddered. They'd snuck out not too long ago to steal some fruit from nearby trees, and been seen. After being duly punished, she had been sent back to her weyr with express orders not to leave again. She was actually afraid to.
There was a knock at her door, however lightly. She sneezed and went to answer it, tiptoeing. It wasn't her turn to moderate the corridor, and anyway, they wouldn't communicate with her that way. The current preference for communication was through the dragons. Pulling the door open, she shivered at the breeze incoming from the hallway. Standing there was her dear love K'dyn. She grabbed his wrist and yanked him inside quickly before anyone could see him. "Are you crazy?!" she whispered loudly, shutting the door gently behind them. "Oh, but I've missed you!"
And with that, she ran and jumped easily into his strong arms. She shivered again and wondered why she was so cold in a warm room, but dismissed it as excitement. "K'dyn, I'm so glad you came. Yanth and I were just discussing coming to your weyr."

K'dyn waited a moment, thought he heard a shifting sound inside the weyr. When she pulled him inside he was grinning like any kid would who got away with something they weren't supposed to get away with. "Ortath was a sleep or I would have informed you I was coming." Maybe... then again he liked the surprise she had written on her face.
He held her against him, feeling her shiver set him to thinking. She might not be well. "Are you cold?" He moved them closer to her bed where there was a warm blanket. "Theres no need for that now." He looked down at her face, eyes filled with concern. He wasn't so sure she was feeling herself. Kissing her forehead gently he could feel the heat coming off of it.
"Darling, you have a fever." K'dyn, who had never been all that tactful, laid her down on her bed. "You get comfortable and I'm going to see to it that you feel better." He was scared... after all why shouldn't he be. The disease had a high death toll thus far and he refused to think that Kanoni would be counted among them. In fact he began to brush all thoughts of death aside. He was a dragonrider and as such he put aside fear to do the right thing. He had to get in contact with the Healers. Daevon. He could have Yanth call on Daevon. He was an HAD after all and he would understand K'dyn's need for information. He just hoped that the man wasn't recieving tons of these messages every minute.

"Oh, just a little. It's nothing." She smiled, aware of his worry. "No, everything's fine. Really, I'm not sick." But she still allowed him to lay her down, and even giggled. Kanoni could see the fear on his face, and lost her own smile. She didn't feel sick, and she said so. "I think I'm fine," she continued. But she laid down; if it relieved his fears, she'd do it. Chances were, he was thinking of a plan anyway. She'd just play along.
Laying back, she watched him think. A thought occured to her. "K'dyn, if you tell someone I'm sick, they'll know you were here to see me. And since I'm not sick, you'll get in trouble for nothing." It was a terrible thought, and she didn't want him in trouble. "What are you doing?"

She was pretending everything was fine now but he wouldn't let himself believe it. "Kanoni, I'd rather get in trouble making sure you are healthy. Besides what are they going to do? Put me on hall duty?" He was already on hall duty. The healers were probably in need of help, which would be a good punishment except it would only prove he was right to go to a sick wing mate.
"Would you mind asking Yanth to contact Master Daevon... See if he could tell me what we may need should you have the disease. It would be better to make sure we are prepared for the worst." K'dyn went and got a cup and took some of the water stored in her weyr to fill it up. "If its one thing I know about having a fever, its that you need to drink water..."
The Brownrider would never admit that he knew so little about anything. He didn't dwell on his own ego in instances like these. Kanoni was important to him and he would admit his own faults as far as healing went so long as it helped her to become better.

Kanoni shook her head at his overreaction. Honestly, she felt fine. A little twinge in her head, but that was normal for this time of night, when she should be asleep.
Have you considered that you might be sick, and that's why you can't sleep? Yanth asked. I'm talking to him. She meant Daevon.
"Oh, Yanth...fine. Fine. If it will help you and K'dyn to feel better, do whatever you like." Really, she was a trifle perturbed that they were making such a fuss over practically nothing...although a little part of her liked the attention she was getting. It was rare for the greenrider to receive attention outside of her dragon's mating flight--she just wasn't a flashy kind of girl.
Yanth snorted audibly. I will. She then became involved in a conversation with the Master, and Kanoni turned her attention to K'dyn.
"She's talking to him now. Happy?" She pouted.

"Thank you Yanth." He smiled at the green before telling her rider. "I'll be happy when your are one hundred percent recovered. Until them I can only be partly happy." He knew she had meant it in an angry way but for his part he could never be angry with her. "Please drink some water..."
K'dyn knew he would be a worse patient than she was being so he didn't get upset with her for protesting. "You know, I can stay in here as long as I want, now that you've already exposed me it doesn't matter." Not that K'dyn hadn't been exposed to the illness at least a dozen times already.
He had helped the healers as a punishment for a prank, when the illness had just begun to break out. When most of the healers fell ill afterwords, K'dyn did not. Then that master healer, whatever his name was, from Fort, threw this word at him, like K'dyn would know what it meant. Immune. The healer had had to explain that K'dyn was never going to catch this particular strain. Something in his past may ahve prevented it or it could be genetic. Either way, he was not going to be sick.
"Kanoni, we do this because we love you. Yanth and I want to make sure you are healthy. If you were to get worse we wouldn't forgive ourselves for not doing anything. Besides you would do the same to me."

Her ego was soothed, and she was placated. "I know," she replied. "I just hate being a bother." His words added glee to her mood, however; she was pleased to hear that if she was sick, he could stay with her. "So, you say that you can be here, now that you've come. Does that mean you'll get sick too?" A thought occured to her: the illness wasn't usually fatal in people their age, but there were exceptions to every rule. "K'dyn! You never should've come! What if you get sick now too? What if you...if you die?" She looked down to her lap so he couldn't see the tears welling in her eyes. "I don't want you to die..."
Yanth crooned her concern as well, neither having any idea about an immunity. The green flapped her wings agitatedly. Tears splashed into the rider's lap, and Yanth squealed because of the discomfort both felt. You'll be okay, Kanoni, and so will he, she told her rider.
But Kanoni couldn't stop worrying. She began to get a little dizzy from the stressfulness of the situation, and started reeling. Nausea set in when her world started spinning. "Ooh, K'dyn, I don't feel so well," she said. Her stomach started doing dances, it felt like, and her head felt as though a harper were sending drum messages with it. Her eyes were swimming, and not just from sadness tears. "Maybe we shou---" But she was interrupted by the vomit violently erupting from her mouth and onto K'dyn's stomach and abdomen, who was standing in front of her. when she was done, she said, "Okay, maybe I'm a little sick..."

Deavon had gotten very mildly sick at the beginning of the outbreak, just enough to put him out of commission for a day and to innoculate him against getting it again. However, that did not mean that the illness had not affected him rather strongly, just differently from how it affected other people.
He kept getting contacted by dragons, or hearing their distress. And when the young gold had started keening, the man had had to grab ahold of the wall to steady himself. Fortunately, most of the distress of the other dragons was... just as intense, just a little less loud and panicky.
After talking with the Head Healer, the decision had been reached that the best thing for Deavon was to listen to the distress of the dragons and pass on whose Riders were sick. From there, one of the other healers who had managed to be established as immune, or to have already recovered and been declared clean and safe, would take baskets of supplies. He would also try to calm the dragons, and perhaps give advice to the Rider if the Rider was conscious.
When Yanth spoke to him with direct questions, Deavon scribbled a note and passed it to an assistant with Kanoni's name on it. He rubbed at his forehead slightly. He would not ignore the dragons to save himself the pain he was experiencing. However, Yanth cheered him a bit. She was asking direct questions rather than panicking - either indicating a mild case or that it was in the early stages.
If yours has a cough that seems bad, she'll want to take fellis. If she's not running a high fever, then just a little bit of fellis. With severe fevers, they were being told to be liberal with the fellis, as the chance of survival was lower. Plenty of water. If she's running a high fever, tuck her into blankets, or get her to tuck herself into blankets to try to break the fever. If that does not work after a couple of hours, let me know.
He listed a few other herbs and medicines that could help if they had them, and assured Yanth that a basket of supplies was being sent. Included in it would be a couple of orange fruits to help the body in the fight.

Glad that she was finally oming around, he waited for Yanth to pass on the information to her rider. "Don't worry. If I were going to get sick I would have been already. The healer said I'm immune. I am unable to catch this illness." He hoped that soothed her worries. After saying this though, it seemed to him that her face went a bit pale.
Not seconds later, she was trying to speak and before he knew it, she had thrown up on him. "You rest, I'm going to see about getting you a bowl. Try to drink a little water at a time. We don't want you dehydrating. When Yanth is done speaking with Daevon I need all the info. Meanwhile... I need to get rid of this tunic."
K'dyn walked away from her and though he didn't mind changing next to her, he just thought the puke smell would be bad for her current stomach unease. Taking great cares to keep the puke from falling onto the floor, K'dyn wrapped the shirt up. He placed it on the dragon ledge, outside where it wouldn't bother Kanoni. When Ortath woke, he could have him burn it.

"Oh, shards, K'dyn, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to---" She threw up again. "That," she said, smiling weakly. This time, the vomit was on her rug. Luckily, it was not one she particularly cared about. "K'dyn...I feel bad. I'm sorry." His poor tunic was laying on the ledge, soaked with dinner and water. Remembering what he told her, she took a small sip. It had the double benefit of clearing her palate and hydrating her, and she perked a little bit. "I feel a little better now. Maybe it was something I ate?"
No. You are sick, Kanoni. She turned to K'dyn and nodded, indicating her completion of the conversation. The shy, small green hadn't gotten to talking to K'dyn yet, but when she mused on it, Kanoni was sure that she would someday. Right now, it was hard enough getting the dragon to use his real name. Yanth flicked her tail impatiently. He'd better get here quickly, she snarled. Yanth didn't like it when Kanoni was sick--it meant that, at least mentally, Yanth had to be ill as well. She didn't mind the connection with Kanoni, but she reflected Kanoni's dislike for sickness.
"Oh, K'dyn, I'm glad you can't get this. It's terrible." She vomited again, and all the water she'd drank came back up, as well as the remainder of the night's roast wherry supper. The rug was now properly soaked, and worthless. "I gotta get something to do this in." she said, sighing. Her throat ached, and she started to cry a little.

"Here you are." He handed her a bowl. "I'll clean it out after you've been sick again." K'dyn went on to clear out the rug. When he came back he saw the tears. He didn't know what he was supposed to do. After thinking about it, he figured she was in some sort of pain. He propped up the pillows behind her. "Lay down a bit if you can. This illness seems to be causing exhaustion..."
K'dyn knew this from when he had helped the Healers, no matter what the other symptoms were most people were brought in barely able to lift their heads. "Rest as much as you can.Yanth will keep an eye on you. I'm going to see if I can't rouse Ortath." The dragon was sleeping soundly but there were ways to get him up. He if was in some sort of excruciating pain for instance.
He held on to that thought for a couple moments before successfully waking Ortath. What is wrong?Kanoni is ill and I need you to make a stop at the Weyrhall.Food, medicine and supplies.exactly. As Ortath prepared to fly off his ledge, he recieved a message from Sheluth. K'dyn...The dragon's voice had that I have bad news, tone. What's wrong?Sheluth says Neory is ill.
He was in a state of shock for a moment. Is someone caring for her? Yes, a couple of people are there.Inform me if Sheluth says anything else about her condition.I understand. He walked back over to KAnoni. "Ortath's gone to get some things for us. Sheluth contacted him on the way. Neory is very ill too."
