The afternoon was a bustle of people walking here and there. He was not surprised seeing it was peak hours for the Weyrhall. Unfortunately his chores had made it impossible to come to the Weyrhall at any other time. So there he was eating lunch at the Candidate table, hoping to see one of his few friends. He had some silly woman serving him food and she didn't even remember to get him his water. He'd love to talk to the person in charge of this shift and remark on the poor service but then thats what you got when silly women were allowed to do important jobs.
Hiding his impatience by devouring his food, he tried to think of what to say to the insolent woman without being too commanding. He wasn't about to get up and get his own drink. "Excuse me, but I did ask for a drink a long long while ago. If you have forgotten how to get a cup of water, I can ask someone with more experience or better yet a man." He rolled his brown eyes at her flushed cheeks and scurrying form. She was probably irate.
That was another problem with female kind. They had no control over their emotions. He cleared his throat when a different woman brought him some water. She slammed the cup down hard enough that water nearly spilled on him. His eyes flashed up at her, brown orbs locked on blue ones. A battle wills it seemed but Hierzet never backed out of anything. "You, will bring me a towel for the mess you made and since you seem to have lost all manners I'd like to speak to the shift manager. If that is denied me, I will have to take this to the Headwoman." She quirked an eyebrow at him and gave in, moving away. He had no doubt she wouldn't be back either.

Kiaran had watched the whole exchange. She'd seen the rudeness of the Candidate, she'd seen the young and new drudge trying not to cry, and she'd seen the more experienced one make it quite known how she was angry about it. While she'd discipline the young girl later, she'd make sure that it was a lesson in the correct way to express anger rather than anything too serious.
She didn't wait for the other to approach her, nor did she think too much about the fact that it was so much easier when she dropped in to manage a shift anywhere other than in the Hall. "I don't think the Headwoman would really care about your petty complaint." Kiaran always carried a towel with her when she was working a serving shift. She no longer had to work directly like this, but she liked to rotate her supervision so that she could keep an eye on all the drudges and working conditions. She dropped the towel onto the table.
"As for the shift manager, that would be me tonight. I assure you that the servers will be reminded of their duty during shift; however, young man. I would suggest that you take your own manners into account in this matter. After all, it can be very unwise to anger those who serve you food. And while I'm sure you just know that one day you will ride a Bronze and not have to take anything from anyone; for now, young man, you still sit at the Candidate's table."
Kiaran made a note to be sure to remember this young man. She often had Candidates sent to her for punishment when the Headwoman was busy. She would personally make sure that this young man was reminded that as a Candidate, his rank was only slightly above that of the lowest level drudges.

Of all the presumptuous twits to come along, this one was the worst. Not only was she pretending to be better than he was, she actually believed she was. Then she had the nerve to tell him what he was thinking. How would she know? Women really were the lowest form of drudge imagineable. He scowled a moment and lost interest in taking it to the HEadwoman. She had issues with him enough but it seemed his bluff would not work on this one. FINE.
Clearing his throat and in an obviously strained voice, "You assume too much. If you think I'm going to sit here and listen to a drudge tell me that I'm JUST a Candidate and that my aspiration in life is to impress Bronze. You are sadly mistaken. In fact if you don't clear off, I'll see to it that you have a sore face tomorrow."
He meant it. Every word of it. She was angering him more than he already was. Bronze... ewww. As if he wanted to be with those women serving, pretty boys who dreamed of mating to have power. He'd rather not impress at all. It was as bad as impressing green. The feminity. It was nauseating. No, he'd prefer Brown like his father and gradfather or even blue. But Bronze.. if he had his way she'd be eating those words.

She raised an eyebrow at that threat. If this boy was enough of a dimglow to hit someone who outranked him, then quite frankly, he'd deserve whatever consequences came to him. Momentarily she wondered if it'd be enough to get him thrown out of the Candidate class, but was not sure, and while she knew she wasn't gorgeous, she really didn't want to sport a black eye. Though she was not going to back down, and her big brother had taught her how to fight.
"Like it or not, boy. You are just a Candidate. And I'd warn you to be careful who you assault or threaten if you want to maintain even that mere rank." Eh, hitting her might not get him tossed out, but it would definitely be another strike against him - she figured he must have several - and perhaps move him closer to gone.
Eyes flashing with anger she leaned in momentarily, "Learn to control yourself, boy. Or you'll learn to regret it." With that she turned on her heel and walked away. There was no storming, just a calm, confident stride. And seriously considering suggesting that the servers start spitting in his food and drinks.

Hierzet listened or half listened to what the woman was saying though he quite honestly no longer cared about what came out of her mouth. HE had gotten to her, whether she wanted to believe it or not. Hierzet got to most people when he was in a bad mood, much like he was today.
It wasn't enough that lessons were the same things he heard every year. Or even that he got the worst chores possible and double the amount of a normal Candidate because of his so called attitude. No, he had to deal with being treated different than other people in the Weyrhall because he wasn't flirting with the new girl and hence wasn't getting served.
To top it all off, it was insanely hot outside for this time of year and all his chores were outside. A little bit of water was all he had wanted and now he was pissed. "I never regret the things I do. Only the things I do not do..." He scowled, drank his water and got up from the table. There was nothing to be done about this fowl mood or the service or the fact that he was going to go sweat his ass off again.
