What exactly was the relationship between Gwyn and K'role? Some people wondered since they were not relatives and the were not lovers. So strange, people could be, as they told her a young man a young lady could not be "just friends." She had known K'role since she was sixteen, and he was eleven. Her mother Givella was the about the same age as K'role's mum, and they had been very good friends since childhood all the way until the present. When she had come to the Weyr to visit her parents (for her father insisted that if the couple couldn't raise the girls, they would be raised by family, hence, Gwyn's Holder grandparents) she was introduced to K'role and his sisters. Through the years she had been befriended by the other children, and was closest to K'role and his twenty three turn old sister. Now K'role was close to graduating, so as sort of a present, she arranged for a picnic where they could talk about anything and just hang out. Aurath was excited to be with his green, too, because she wanted some one to swim and gossip with.

Railith was all but bouncing in excitement over the idea of a lazy picnic day. She was too big now to fit in the Weyrling barracks, but she rushed her rider nonetheless, her mindvoice even hinting at her excitement.
Can't you change any faster? she nagged impatiently as the boy had instisted that he bath before they left, making them a little late, heavens forbid~!
The boy rolled emerald eyes as he pulled a clean green loose fitting shirt over his head, his hands catching the long damp ebony hair along the way and pulling it free of the shirt. He ran a comb through the hair one last time.
I'm coming~! he insisted, leaving the small quarters to join his dragon outside. He'd harnessed her before his bath so she was ready.. if not impatient. The small green landed only pausing long enough for her rider to half mount.
"RAILITH~!" The boy cried, hands clutching the leather harness tightly, pulling himself up. Insufferable green. Any other day she would had been checking and rechecking to make sure he was ready.
The small green's landing was much better than her take-off, and certainly more coordinated. Talons bit into the earth at the edge of the lake as wings stopped there balancing flapping, to allow K'role to dismount.... but of course, she was back to bouncing while he tried to remove the harness before Railith went scampering into the water.
Well.... there went a day's worth of polishing.....D:
K'role dropped the single piece of harness that he had gotten off, his boots treading lighter than any lady's as he approached his friend. One of few. When he sat, it was less graceful, and filled with a sigh of exasperation at his Green.
"Sorry I'm late, Gwyn," he said, offering the woman a small apologetic smile.

Gwyn smiled at the other pair's antics. She set down the basket of goodies she had and mentally reminded Aurath that their guests had come. The green came ashore to greet Railith. Aurath was very happy to have a companion today, as she was often bored. She was simple, like all greens, though she required quite a bit of social interaction. The snarky little thing. . . Oh, hello, Railith, you are good? and instead of waiting for an answer, she quickly picked up from their last conversation, That young blue, Yavith, that we had talked about, flew that old green over there not long ago. Evamith has to be thirty turns old!
"How is your mother, K'role? I packed some bread, a little bit of meat and cheese, and a I managed to get this," She pulled a bubbly pie out with a smile, "My sister actually got it for me. She's a little bummed there is no queen egg this time around." Mavilla was the same age as K'role, but had not Impressed with him. Gwyn was just glad her sister wasn't killed by Sheluth when she hatched. The greenrider sat down on the grass, putting the pie down so she wouldn't ruin it by dropping it.

K'role watched his green for a moment. What a goofball. He turned back to the other greenrider, with a slight nod. "She's fine. I haven't seen her much though." In truth, the boy hardly even saw his sisters. He'd been busy it seemed. This close to graduating, there was a lot to do, keeping a lot of the Weyrlings busy.
The boy's green eyes widened at the sight of the pie. His favorite~! He'd have to make sure he thanked Mavilla. At the mention of the girl, he looked back to Gwyn. "Maybe she'll get lucky and get a green instead," he said encouragingly with a slight smile. He knew the chances for that were slim to none as the Weyrwoman didn't want girls Impressing greens.
The boy pulled his knees up, his arms resting lightly around them. Mavilla would be disappointed with a green... this he knew. A pity really. "Thanks, Gwyn, you're great," he chimed.
The small green splashed happily in the shallows of the water. Hi Aurath! I'm gooooooood! The younger green chimed. Before Railith had the chance to ask the other how she was, the other snagged her attention with an old conversation. The dragon's expression almost looked surprised as it looked toward the old green at the edge of the lake. What a silly Blue! the young green chimed.

Gwyn was actually surprized that Aurath had remembered an old conversation. Greens didn't have the best memories. Gwyn didn't get to see her own mother as much as she would have liked, either. She saw Mavilla often enough since the girl was a female candidate who was assumed to be a drudge, and Gwyn was an adult rider. She liked to treat her friends, and got some satisfaction knowing she pleased K'role. "She wouldn't mind a green, really, of course she'd like a gold, but with no gold egg she has no hope at either."
Of course she Impressed from the stands, unexpecting at sixteen. But she understood that it was rare to do so, so she didn't bring it up at all. The greenrider wished that her sister would Impress some how. Maybe she could put in a good word for her somewhere. However, even the Weyrling Master couldn't be of much help, it was Weyr policy.
She smiled at being thanked, it made her feel good. K'role was like her brother now, and she liked to spoil her relatives. It was gave her reason to think she'd be a good mother, if only she had time. And having a weyrmate she wanted to procreate with helped things. Perhaps she was too much a romantic to live in the Weyr. But as a child growing up at the hold she thought she was too romantic for arranged marriages her Lady grandmother plotted for her.
Aurath was pleased to have a gossip friend, Yes, very silly!

The boy considered the older rider's words for a moment. He didn't like the restriction on female riders. Seemed silly to him. Women were just as good a rider as any... if not better. As far as K'role was concerned, women were better at a lot of things than the men that they lived with.
A small frown knotted the neatly groomed dark brows at his path of thinking. "Well I think they should let girls stand for whatever they want," he said, probably the most bold of statements the boy would ever utter. He wasn't one for often expressing his opinion. But he was with Gwyn, and his shyness of her had long ago vanished.
Obviously, K'role was not a big fan of Elisha and her new policy. If they kept up on this path, they'd und up like Igen. All males. And males obsessed over power and rank. It wasn't a good thing. He boy shook his head again, damp locks of black hair dancing with the movement.
The small green splashed happily in the water, inadvertantly sending a spray of water descending on the patrons around the edge of the lake with her play. She'd already forgotten about her conversation with Aurath. She was still a ways from her next Flight, so she was hardly concerned over some silly blue.

Gwyn unpacked the basket hand handed him a slice of thicke bread and set out the stewed and seasoned meat and sliced cheese. The greenrider enjoyed the domestic activities such as arranging picnics and planning dinner parties. She some times wondered what life would be like as a wife of some Holder, like had been planned. But you would not have me. That is true, Gwyn thought automatically. What would she do with out her dragon? She said softly to him, "I hope you like our fares. I also brought a wineskin, though it is filled with juice and not wine."
Aurath swam with great stroke for a little green. Her hide glistened, though it was because she was in the water, and Gwyn was reminded that it would not be long before Aurath rose again. Probably won by a totally different rider too. It was the way of the Weyr, though she doubted she'd ever get used to that aspect of it. She sat wither her knees propped up and her arms wrapped around them, looking out at the lake. "Is your Railith close to rising, K'role?"

The younger greenrider simply smiled in gratitude as she handed him some of the prepared food. Brushing, a strand of straying ebony hair back from his face while she continued to unpack things. He set his food beside him before he leaned over to get said wineskin.
"It's great, Gwyn, really," He reassured her with a boyish grin. Retrieving two cups, he poured them both full of the sweet smelling juice, passing one to the other greenrider.
His hand tightened, tense on the glass at the mention of Railith's next Flight. "Not for a while, no," he managed to get out, setting the wineskin down, and stuffing a piece of bread in his mouth hastily. The emerald eyes shifted to look at his equally green dragon blundering about.
Railith, heart, calm down, he pleaded.
The small green paused her play to glance at her rider. Whyyy~? the dragon whined, slowly making her way to the shallows towards the pair of greenriders, water dribbling over the smooth hide.
