"By all means," Enald replied politely, "Search away." Perhaps a Beastcrafter wasn't the smartest choice to give away, what with increase of unclaimed herdbeasts, but at least it wouldn't compromise a Hold's integrity.
He turned to look at the boy they were referring too, and blinked. He didn't know all of the Holdless they'd brought Telgar Hold, but he did know the ones who weren't going to be moved out into the minor Holds. This boy was one of them- he didn't remember the name, but he wasn't pleased. To be honest, he'd much rather not have anyone else know how desperate Telgar had been, but their was nothing he could do.
~~~~~~~~~~
Adreazioh wavered between two feelings. Curiosity wanted him to stay and see what the Dragons would do- the other was telling him he didn't want to know, and to leave, and perhaps get food. His stomach grumbled, and he turned to leave.
Food was more important than anything.
He is leaving, Mine. The green bespoke Hers, and Gwynhaver twirled around, she spoke sort of absent mindedly as she watched her potential candidate just walk away, "Yes, thank you Lord Enald." The greenrider walked briskly toward Adreazioh. Getting closer to him, she said in a firm, though neutral voice, "You, boy, would you talk with me a minute?"
She had her reservations, but the dragons said he would do. If anything, upon appearance, the boy didn't look to important that the Lord and Lady would object. Aurath lifted her head and looked around the hold, as if looking for others to find and Search.
Thoughts of food(perhaps the bread they'd had yesterday?) had meant Ario wasn't paying as much attention to his surroundings as he usually did. However, one did not live long in the Igen Holdless Caves if one wasn't careful all of the time. He didn't jump when the pretty, female voice spoke to him, but he had turned around, and almost gone into a crouch.
"You, boy, would you talk with me a minute?"
He pondered what that meant for a minute. Translating it into his sort of language, Adreazioh smiled shyly.
"C'ourse." He responded, with the one word he could say fairly well at this point.
~~~~~~~
Enald watched as the Greenrider walked after the Holdless boy, and looked at his wife. Speaking softly, he held her close.
"Do you think we can spare him?" Enald asked, with mock sincerity. A Holdless boy- the first one they Searched was a holdless boy.

She smiled sweetly to him, "Hello there, might I ask your name? You see, my green dragon likes you. She thinks you would be appropriate to send on our hatching sands." She hoped he understood, she figured most people would be getting where she was going with this already, but she proceeded, "I'm Gwyn, from Telgar Weyr, and our gold dragon has clutched 30 eggs. We feel you might have a chance to Impress, so we'd like to take you back to Telgar Weyr with us. Would you like that?"
She watched his face for excitment. If he did not want to know, she supposed she could not make him, though candidates were tight, and she'd much rather return with one. He was undernourished and dressed poorly, most likely not a very important boy in the hold, so Enald and Leshya would have no qualms about them taking him. She said with a grin, "Have you ever rode dragonback before?" She was pretty positive he hadn't. Especially since she had already deduced he was not an 'important' person of Telgar society. Maybe even a former holdless, the way he looked.

When the woman started talking, Adreazioh stared at her blankly. What did it matter that her Green liked him? Dragons didn't eat people- or at least, no one had ever mentioned that they did, and what were hatching sands? Impression? He knew what eggs were- birds laid them, and had their babies out of them. You could also eat them.
His expression remained puzzled, until she asked him if he'd ever ridden a dragon. He'd seen the people on the backs of dragons, but he didn't think the average person was allowed to ride them. He tilted his head to the side and answered her.
"No, ne'va bin onna dragan."
Maybe that was why it was important that her dragon liked him? The pretty green wanted to give him a dragonride. As for the rest of it- Impression, well, that probably something related to this ride.
"An' me nam's Adreazioh." For some reason it seemed important to give her his full name- not the shortened condensed version most people used.

She wondered why he looked so blank, so unexcited like other boys she had searched. Did he not want to go? Did he have some other obligations? Did he hate the dragonriders? No. That is not it. I would not have picked him. She searched his face, then perhaps it was that he did not understand? He spoke with a strange accent, it was uneducated, so maybe that was it then. He did not understand what she was asking him.
She smiled encouraginly, "Yes, you can ride to Telgar Weyr on my dragon." He then gave her his name, and smiled a little brighter, "Pleasure to meet you Adreazioh. How would you like to have your own dragon? If you come with me and these other riders, you could have a chance. When dragon eggs hatch, the baby dragons need a rider to take care of them. Are you up for maybe being a rider?"

They were offering him a baby dragon? Adreazioh was taken aback. He was a former Holdess! They couldn't give him a baby dragon! He stared at the taller woman in confusion. They hadn't asked him any questions about his history- weren't they suspicious?
Didn't the Lord and Lady know better than to send him off with Dragonriders?
He didn't know much about dragonriders, but in a place like the Caves, stories helped keep you alive. Stories about the legendary Thread and Dragonriders were often told, though he doubted much about what he'd heard of dragonriders was true. This woman here didn't look seven feet tall, after all.
He opened and closed his mouth, looking rather like a fish.
"Yuss?" He finally asked, unsure if he should or not.

She laughed a little bit, "Well do you? You have to be very sure, since you will be leaving your life here. And there is no guarentee that you will be a rider. All I can offer is a chance. Do you want to take a chance, Adreazioh?" She had a feeling he would. No one had asked her, Aurath had found her in the stands. Though she felt she would readily agree to it if she had been asked to stand. Being a dragonrider was a great chance for some one who had no rank in ordinary society. Things might have been different if she was a Lord Holder's daughter instead of a Lord Holder's granddaughter.
She looked lovingly at Aurath, no, she would always want to be a dragonrider. When men failed her, she had the unconditional love of her green dragon. What boy, if he was holdless, would pass up such a chance? Oh she was sure he'd choose to come with her. And she'd try to look after him too, almost like a protoge, she supposed. He would certainly have to get adjusted to Weyr life.

"Yuss." That was more firm. A pretty dragon- a green or a blue(he didn't see any other colors, and decided that there were no other), all of his own. He could do that. He wanted that.
He might not be tall, or strong, or handsome, but he could do this. He could follow this woman to the Telger Weyr. He wasn't sure why he wanted to. But he did.
A dragon. Then he couldn't be thrown back into the Holdless caves. That was reason enough, he decided.
He didn't think that was the only reason he was willing to follow this dark haired rider(speaking of that, since when did females Ride? He'd never heard of any female riders.)
Would it be green? Or blue?
No part of his mind really wondered about his erstwhile family. They'd be given another Holdless boy if they asked, he was sure. He couldn't comprehend a holdless boy being a limited commodity.

"Great!" Gwyn beamed, he was certainly a most interesting boy to be taking back, but the right one, she was sure. He would adjust, young people were good at that. She said to reassure him, not that he needed it, "You will like the Weyr. It is a big place, and nice people. Well," She thought a moment, "mostly nice people."
They have found another. And Gwyn knew the other riders have found another prospect. She could only hope that they would come out fruitful. Though with one candidate already, it was a fruitful search. She decided she had better not just dump him off somewhere. Good, tell the others I am taking a candidate back to Telgar now. It will be done.
"Hey, come on, you'll ride with me on my green. Don't be frightened. You will get to sit behind me." She motioned him to follow her as she walked back to Aurath, who shifted a little, staring at one of the herdbeasts. That foodbeast looks at me funny. She smiled to herself, then turned back to the boy, "Ha, what am I thinking? Do you have to say goodbye to any one before we left? You have to tie up loose ends. Be sure to meet me back here once you are done telling your family you're leaving to Telgar Weyr."

Feeling scared, and slightly worried, he followed her to the simply beautiful Green. The dragon was bigger than he, and the closer he got to it, the more convinced he was that it was a She. When they reached a spot close enough to mount the Green, Adreazioh waved up at her. He wondered if there was a formal Holder phrase he should know to say to her.
When the Rider told him to go talk to his "family" Adreazioh was unsure of what to do. The family he had here, they weren't really a family. Just people who doled out his food, and clothed him. He was sure someone would tell them what had happened, and he didn't want to spent hours trying to explain to them what had happened.
He shook his head.
"Nah famley 'ere." He told the Rider plainly. "Leve no'?"

"Oh, okay, well let's go then. I'll mount first and then help pull you up." Gwyn nodded, a little surprized he didn't have any one to say goodbye to. Though it was fine with her, faster they could get to Telgar. She, as slowly as she could, mounted Aurath. She hoped he would get how she was trying to show him how to do it. She held down her hand, with this other tightly gripping her riding straps. "Now do what I did, though you can grab my hand so I can pull you up. Okay?"
She wondered if his real family would worry about him, if he had any. He could be an orphan for all she knew. Gwyn still was happy they would bring in a few candidates, perhaps not all that should have come in, but there were a few. Who knew? Maybe Adreazioh would Impress, maybe even a ranker, all was possible at the hatching. "Aurath is sturdy, though I should warn you between will be a tad bit chilly."

It was entirely possible that Adreazioh would take a chill from the ride back to the Weyr. His clothes weren't that bad, but they weren't heavy enough to keep the wind out, much less the chill of Between. He didn't know that, however. To him, it seemed like they would simply be warmer the higher up they moved. Warm- like Igen. Sometimes, when he was shivering in clothing that should have been enough, he wished back the oppressive sun of Igen, but it never lasted long.
Wondering what Between was, Adreazioh waited for the Rider to offer her hand, and used it to launch himself up onto the Dragon's large back. Aurath? Was that it's name?
How did you know what the dragons name was? Had the Rider named it herself when she was given an egg? He wondered why she'd picked that. Not that it wasn't pretty, but what would he, himself choose?
"B'twin?" He asked, once he was settled behind the Rider.

"Aye, between we go. Hang on tight now!" And she gave her green dragon a little tap and Aurath rumbled a little bit before springing up into the air. She was much more advantaged than Adreazioh in that she wore riding leathers, though still the velocity of going up pressed upon her, and she was latched in. She made sure with one hand to grab a hold of his wrist around her waist.
Once up in the air, Aurath knew that it was time to go home to Telgar Weyr. Ready? She yelled over her shoulder, "Ready to go between, Adreazioh? Here we go!" And the turqoise hued green blinked between, back to the Telgar Weyr bowl.
