Lan’ae had his hides spread out once more, three which looked very neat, but with little written on them, one holding a list of the entire --- class while several others just held notes and a few reports written at a number of different times. All three chairs were empty, one on his side of his desk and two in front, while the fire flickered happily in the winter morning.
He had decided to give his charges the chore of washing not only their dragons – who were now getting to decent sizes with the greens just standing over their rider’s heads while the larger browns and bronzes stood even taller – but of washing out the Weyrling barracks as well. With the oldest class freshly graduated, Lan’ae was going to have them move their things this afternoon into the other wing of the barracks where there would be more privacy for all of them as well as more room for their growing dragons.
Lan’ae himself, was at the window, propped open just a bit as he listened to the happenings of the Weyr outside. Lost in thought, he did not notice the time pass as he waited for his assistant M’ren and the candidate master V’nes to show up. He had asked them both to help him with the new, mock-wing assignments he wanted to do with the youngest class of weyrlings for both the purpose of training as well as chores.

V'nes had gotten the chance to speak with K'sah, and he found himself in a much more pleasant mood for the past couple of days. Yes, he knew that there was some tension with both of them controlling their physical desires, but the older man found that infinitely more bearable with getting to know each other. Perhaps with age, or maturity, or simply being less physically oriented than the younger man, V'nes knew that the emotional and relational part was much more important than the physical aspect of a relationship.
So it was that he came to the meeting with Lan'ae and M'ren smiling warmly and visibly light-hearted. That's not to say that there was nothing weighing on his mind, but he was personally happier than he had been in a long time. Though he was much more concerned about the situation with D'leon than he had been previously.
He knocked on the Weyrling Master's office door, but did not let himself in. Even though he was expected as the three of them had a meeting scheduled, a Weyrling could have popped in unexpectedly - he knew that Candidates tended to do that to him from time to time, so he would wait.

M'ren wasn't that late- one of the newly graduated Weyrlings had drawn him aside to ask some questions. He arrived as V'nes was knocking on the door, waiting for admission by Lan'ae. His clothes were slightly mussed, and what seemed to be a slight stain where food had touched the comfortable riding leathers.
He gave the other brownrider a nod of recognition, and thought about his Weyrling class. It was easier to think of these kids, instead of newly born child of his own. He'd been informed, during breakfast that morning, that late last night, Lisette had gone into labor, and had born a healthy son that morning. In true weyr style, he'd not been informed until after the child had been born. He'd nearly choked, but had managed to convey that he, M'ren, would be coming to see the child, and help name it after his very important, couldn't be canceled, meeting.
M'ren had been pleased by the little female greenrider who'd given him a good distraction asking about her rights, and how to request a Weyrmated weyr, as well as how she could sign up as a Searchrider.
It had helped, and now he was ready for work. And possibly a few drinks after work(and seeing Lisette).

The knock at the door brought Lan’ae back to the present and he closed the window gently before moving to the door and opening it. He was pleased to see the two younger brownriders both present and he lifted his arm to motion them in.
“Have a seat V’nes, M’ren. There is a pot of Klah on the hearth and my wife keeps the mugs fresh if you wish for something warm to drink.” He said with a smile, ever thankful for his attentive wife. “I’d like to get right to work.”
Moving around to his own chair on the other side of the desk, he picked up the list of the Weyrling class and spun it to face the other two riders. The list had been made by color with the Gold on top, followed by the bronzes and so forth. It was a complete list of the A11 class.
“I would like to split them up into three wings, giving the bronzers a taste of leading a group as well as giving them more a feeling of unity. Of course… There is the issue of D’leon, but at the same time I still believe I’d like to put him in charge of a wing, perhaps with a more reliable wingsecond to attempt to keep him in check.”
The hide holding the list read (for easy reference): Neory of Gold Sheluth D'leon of Bronze Myeth P'len of Bronze Nargoth G'eph of Brown Vanarth Sh'tan of Brown Xanuth D'neck of Brown Menimarth P'rin of Blue Yondrith Amneris of Green Labeth K'sah of Green Nariath Nisha of Green Barsamith Z'ian of Green Wenibath Rona of Green Taelith
(((It might also be noted that the ‘third’ wing I’ve filled with NPC weyrlings; Bronze x2, Blue x3 and Green x6. We just need to sort our currently named weyrlings into the other two wings… We also have an extra 4 blue NPC’s and an extra 5 Green to even out numbers.)))

V'nes nodded to M'ren when he joined him at the door and then to Lan'ae when he ushered them in, cutting across pleasantries to get them straight to work. V'nes had to smile at the man's enthusiasm, something he appreciated since he still considered these his students to a very large degree.
"Klah would be nice, Lan'ae." The brown rider did quite enjoy the hot drink, especially in the cold winters of Telgar. He took the offered seat and looked at the list when it was shown to him.
"Hmmm... I wonder what you are going to do with Neory. Its been a while since we've had a QueenRider Weyrling. When she graduates, she'll be in a completely different situation from the rest of the weyrlings, and I wonder if whichever Bronze you put her with won't have a bit of a leadership struggle on his hands." He really couldn't suggest whether she'd be better with D'leon or P'len, seeing the argument from both sides.
"I'd definitely suggesting putting P'rin and K'sah in wings separate from their older siblings. K'sah for obvious reasons. P'rin, I'm more concerned about him being too much in his sister's shadow." He looked over the list, "And I'm not sure whether G'eph would be a good wing second to balance out D'leon or if they would merely clash the whole time."
He shook his head slightly and grinned to the other two, "I believe we've got our work cut out for us."

M'ren, in true assistant style, slid over to the klah pot when V'nes requested some. It didn't hurt that Canora's klah was very good, and M'ren wanted a cup for himself. Checking to see if Lan'ae didn't want a cup, and then filling them with the requested ingredients(in his case, black, he didn't need any sugar), M'ren returned to the desk, taking the second seat, pondering the students very carefully.
He listened to V'nes' comments, and thought even deeper, frowning slightly when he caught sight of the stain on his shirt, which took him back to why he'd stained it, and that thought was cut off quickly, and returned to the students.
"Putting Neory with D'leon would not look good, and P'len, well, from what I've heard about him, he'll be unlikely to feel threatened by a woman who is a leader. Sh'tan, he's from a good Weyr family, and he might make a good balance for D'leon. And you might want to keep Nisha around her family- that's Z'ian and Sh'tan- she's more confident around them."
M'ren stopped talking, trying to decide if he'd covered it.
Lisren, that'd be a good name for the child. Or maybe Lisdren.

Lan’ae could not help but smile as M’ren moved to get the Klah as requested. Despite the man’s past, and sometimes current habits, he wouldn’t trade the assistant for any other. The man really did know what he was doing and did it with confidence.
Listening to their comments, Lan’ae nodded. He had known the gold rider would be hardest to place. Letting out a sigh, he picked up the mug of Klah M’ren had prepared for him and sipped it slightly before putting it down at and picking up his quill. On the more empty hide, he wrote at the top the names of the two bronze riders; D’leon and P’len. Well at least that decision was easy enough.
“I’m not sure where to but Neory either. While we would easily have a leadership problem on our hands with P’len, I do not trust D’leon with her. We must also remember she constantly has gold lessons with the Weyrwoman. Perhaps she would be best to not be assigned to a wing, but have her work with both – on different days of course. Perhaps I can come up with a lesson where she would need to take the leadership role over the entire class rather than individual wings. She’s a bright and confident girl, I bet she could handle that.”
Tapping the quill to his lip, he scanned the list and let out another sigh as his eyes landed upon Nisha’s name. He too had noticed her more confident around her family… but a number of factors came into play with her.
“I should take Nisha into careful consideration. I’m thinking we should put her, yes with her family, but also with a higher concentration of men. While it will probably not me comfortable for her, I think the men would have an easier time making up for her work when she begins to lighten up on it all…”
Pausing to think again, he found himself looking at K’sah’s name. “And with K’sah, I can’t help but wonder if he would do best with his older brother, or apart from him.” Looking up to the Candidate master he considered, “Where would you put him? With is brother or with P’len?”
Looking back at the list, he seen Amneris and Rona, both female green riders. Simply being female made them a challenge, then of course there was G’eph – unsociable in his own right, but at least he didn’t let D’leon push him around, of course that had ended in a brawl between the two… Then there was D’neck, another brown rider and Sh’tan…
Sh’tan would be placed with Nisha, along with Z’ian. With a smile, Lan’ae drew a line from the two male riders to the female. He hoped they, at least, would not complain when her workload was lightened. But what wing to put the three of them in? Under D’leon or P’len. The idea of putting anybody under D’leon made Lan’ae feel guilty.

V'nes accepted his cup of klah from M'ren with a thanks and took a drink, not waiting for the hot liquid to cool. He appreciated the drink, not just for the energy boost that it tended to provide, but he personally enjoyed the taste. After savoring it for just a moment, the brown rider set his mug down on a coaster, his attention quickly returning to the issue before them.
He reflected for a moment on the proposed "solution" regarding the young Queenrider. "I think that sounds rather promising. She'll need to learn to work with all kinds of leadership styles and personalities, but her duties are different from those around her. I didn't have much time with her under my instruction, since she was a drudge until the queen egg was laid, but if you feel like she could do that, I think that would work without threatening either bronzer or creating an unhealthy leadership situation with D'leon."
He was quiet while he considered the question of Nisha. Like Neory, she had been a late addition to the official candidate roster, but he had quickly recognized that she liked to do what was right and to be a good girl. "If we're keeping Nisha with her family, then I do not think having her under D'leon will be too much of a difficulty. As long as you believe that her family will stand up for her if D'leon tries to pick on her." And as a Brown Rider himself, he knew that Browns frequently had personalities as stong as Bronzers.
"K'sah needs to be in the wing separate from his brother's." V'nes did not even hesitate to offer that answer. "He loves his brother, there's no question about that. However, he needs to be allowed to have space to grow out from under his brother." V'nes did not entirely understand the relationship between the brothers, but he knew that there was a closeness - even if it was not healthy - and he suspected that the young Greenrider who had so completely captivated him was overly dependent on D'leon.
The others he required more thought on. G'eph too could stand up to D'leon, but he could also be a strong second for P'len. The question would be would Sh'tan be the better one to stand up to D'leon or G'eph. V'nes was not entirely sure the answer there.
V'nes was not overly concerned about Amneris. He had heard how well she had handled the situation with the puppies and even how she had snapped at both Neory and D'leon in class. He was sure that Amneris would thrive under either Bronzer, and that she might challenge either of them. He well remembered that she was not the kind to be overly concerned with rules or authority, which might make her amusing under D'leon, but also might create an untenable situation for the other Riders.
Rona had also showed that she was not one to be pushed around. She was quiet and tended to try to win others over with showiness, but he was fairly certain that she had been through difficult enough situations to learn how to stand up for herself.
He did not have easy answers for these, and he picked up his mug of klah to take a drink as he tried to relax his mind to be able to consider these less than obvious questions.

Listening to the candidate master and confirming the comments with his assistant, Lan’ae drew a few more lines upon the hide before finally scratching the names into a fresh hide splitting his entire class into three wings; two with ten weyrlings in each and one with eleven. Pausing a moment, he scratched out two names and switched the wings they were in before finally nodding to himself and turning the hide so the others could see. Hopefully there would be approval of the choices.
Class A11 – Wing Alder D’leon of Bronze Myeth G'eph of Brown Vanarth Sh'tan of Brown Xanuth* P'rin of Blue Yondrith* NPC Blue Nisha of Green Barsamith Z'ian of Green Wenibath* NPC Green NPC Green NPC Green
Class A11 - Wing Baltin P'len of Bronze Nargoth D'neck of Brown Menimarth* NPC Blue NPC Blue NPC Blue Amneris of Green Labeth K'sah of Green Nariath Rona of Green Taelith* NPC Green NPC Green
Class A11 - Wing Corta NPC Bronze NPC Bronze NPC Blue NPC Blue NPC Blue NPC Green NPC Green NPC Green NPC Green NPC Green NPC Green
(((In attempts to have two played wings just for conflict purposes… hehe… I tried to keep three active people to each of the two wings and follow the ideas given. Tell me what ya think and if I should switch any of those played – I won’t mind. The stars are named weyrlings but the players I either couldn’t find or haven’t seen in a long time.)))
