Jeyna's own new cards were all numbers as well. "Hmm, not by much." She showed her cards, "Id win because I have the Bronze, but neither of us really have anything. Do you want me to look at the cards you discarded, or do you understand how to make the choice now? Its really not always easy."
She looked at 'Neris' hand closely. "Oh, hun. That is annoying. If that seven had been a six, you would have won with a low Straight."
She grinned, "So, ready to play for fake marks?" Once they started playing more intently, and Amneris caught the hang of it, they'd be able to talk. Jeyna had to admit that she was curious about what the younger woman had been thinking about earlier.

"Yeah, tell me about it." Neris didn't know whether to laugh or cry when that happened. Frustrating as it seemed to be, she really did want to try again. Perhaps her luck would change or she would be able to fool Jeyna. Strategy would definately come too.
"I had a feeling that would happen. Just my luck." She smiled and then looked down at the chips. She could handle this. It wasn't as hard as it seemed. "Sure, I can give it a try. Can't really do much worse than I already have." Something told her Dragon poker was something that not everyone was good at. Many people probably lost a lot of marks playing.
"Dealer can I have about four Golds..." She giggled a little, as it was a joke. Amneris knew the Dealer had no idea where the Golds were nor was she allowed to peak. Some people probably knew how to cheat when they were dealer.

Jeyna grinned, "Hmmm... I don't guarantee anything."
The Blue Rider did know how to cheat. She just didn't do it. Partly because it was just rude. If you couldn't afford to play, you shouldn't. And if you can afford to lose the Marks, then there was no reason at all to cheat. She'd learned to do it just to see if she could, and had repayed those she cheated the one time she did it immediately. They'd all had a good laugh, and she'd not cheated since.
"All right, throw one in to the middle. That's just a way of telling the dealer that you're in for a hand. I'd suggest never playing in a game where the opening ante is more than an eighth piece. Not unless you're really good. And never play if you can't afford to lose the marks. Even when for money, its about having fun."
Once the ante was in, and Jeyna threw hers in too, she dealt the cards. "Ok, bet's to you. In a low stakes game, the opening bet is usually limited to half a mark." Some of the information wasn't so much for this game, since it was just chips, but just for Amneris to know if she ever did play a game. Jeyna didn't want her getting cheated!

"Well if I'm ever losing a lot of money. I'm having someone who knows how to cheat and deal me some good cards, help me out." Neris was joking of course. She would feel horrible if she cheated. Winning wouldn't be nearly as fun that way. She would have to work on having a poker face.
Throwing a card in the middle as she was told, Amneris waited for Jeyna to explain before calling the bet at 2 eighths. She didn't really want to give away too many marks at first. The hand would tell her whether to bet more or fold. She hoped she would get something good this time.
Looking over all five cards she saw that she had a Brown and a nine of the same suit, a five and eight of the same suit and a two. After deciding to keep the Brown and the nine, Neris said, "Three cards please." And she took the three cards she did not want out of her hand.

Jeyna chuckled at the comment about having someone deal her the right cards. "Just make sure you watch the dealer isn't cheating for others too." She winked, feeling pretty certain that Amneris was teasing. The Green Rider did not seem to be the kind who was willing to cheat to win.
She looked at her own hand, but did not show any reaction, though the cards were not good at all. She had a 2, 3, 4, 7, and a 9. The 9 and 2 were both of the same group. However, she decided to try for the straight and put down the 7 and the 9.
However, before she put the 2 cards down, she met the standing bet of 2 eighths and did not raise it. The risk was high of not getting anything, so she decided to not push it.
She then dealt the three cards to Amneris and with saying, "Dealer takes two," she dealt two to herself.
"Bet's to you. You start it and then I can raise it, call, or fold. Since there's just two of us, the first one to call ends the betting since you can't raise your own bet. So if you place a bet and I call it, that's it." She chuckled, "Its really more fun with four or five people, though I'm enjoying teaching you."

Amneris looked back at her cards with the three new cards included. Now there was a Brown and nine of the same suit, a seven and a four of the same suit and an Queen. Well thats what she had then. A Queen high. If Jeyna thought she didn't have anything it would be better for her.
"I'll raise you another two eighths." She was easy to read so no doubt Jeyna would be able to tell that she had nothing great. This card though, could make the difference. Funny how she got a Queen when she had wanted one. Jeyna was not the sort to cheat so Neris knew it was simply coincedence.
"I bet its harder with more people. I might need some wine if I were to play against that many." Neris did like wine, quite a bit. She didn't drink much of it but it was seen as inappropriate for a Weyrling to be doing much of that.

Jeyna dealt herself a nine and a five. She resisted laughing, after all, she was trying to teach Amneris how to play, and laughing because she, like 'Neris earlier, had missed a straight by one card would have been appropriate, but not helpful.
"I see your two-eights, and raise you another eighth." Jeyna didn't have much, and she really was not trying to bluff. Rather, she wanted to give Amneris just a little taste of how betting went. She was pretty sure that the younger woman was about at the point that she could play and carry on a conversation at the same time.
"There is usually wine flowing pretty freely at a game. However, I often find that it is smart to limit your own wine intake. When you start playing more, you'll notice that some people give away their hands, and the more drunk, the more likely tales are to become obvious. Staying the most sober player at the table does not guarantee that you'll win, but increases your chances."
