Amneris, just like most of the Weyr had been told not to congregate, obviously, one could not help but do so in the Weyrhall and other such places. Still she had followed what the Healers had said as well as she could. Nothing could have prepared her for the day ahead. She had laid in bed for just a few candlemarks like she did everynight. There ends the similarities. Amneris tried to sleep longer but found herself freezing cold and then burning hot.
Her cough had started yesterday with a simple clearing of the throat, the day before she had been sneezing. Now she was definately feverish. Amneris was too tired to move to the infirmiry, so she laid where she was though she was only becomming more and more tired and less able to help herself. Labeth, need help... The dragon had been sleeping until the moment that she felt the desperate touch of her rider. The green couldn't contact any humans directly that she knew of and the first dragon who popped into her mind was the one she had last seen. (Like most green's her memory wasn't the best)
Ragoth, something is wrong with mine... The little green reached out. Hoping that the blue would know what to do. She is so tired...won't move. The concern in her mind voice was fast becoming more than that of a worried dragon.

Support her. Talk to her. You did the right thing. Ragoth was not the most reassuring dragon ever, but he told the Green what he could briefly, knowing that he needed to let his know immediately. She would know what to do - even if she didn't care about Labeth's rider - and he knew she did - she tended to be the kind to try to fix everything.
Mine, Labeth's is not doing well. She says that something is wrong with hers and that she is tired and will not move.
Jeyna had been running about inside the weyr, keeping warm, but still keeping up her exercise. She had balked at the rule to not congregate, but had accepted it, albeit reluctantly. That didn't mean never being around another though, just being careful.
She in the barrack? There was a controlled urgency in her mind voice as she started moving to the weyrling barracks, not letting anyone get in her way.
The not moving at this hour suggests as much, yes.
Distance running was not about speed, but that did not mean she could not occassionally sprint. She ran without worrying about pacing herself, she just had to get to Amneris and get her to the healers. When she got there, it was fairly clear that Amneris had contracted the illness, with a muttered curse, she scooped the girl into arms, "Hold on, sweetie, I'm going to get you to the Healers."
Obviously carrying the young woman, she did not move quite as quickly. Amneris was not heavy, but Jeyna did not want to jostle her, and she was still person - so she was not weightless! Though Jeyna wondered if she shouldn't weigh more.
Reaching the healers, she called out, "I've got a sick weyrling! She needs a bed and medicine, immediate care. Someone help her, NOW." Jeyna might "just" be a Blue Rider, but she could be rather commanding on the rare occassions she decided to be.

Labeth told hers exactly what she needed to hear and nothing more. Help is coming, you may rest. The green, who was too big to lay next to Amneris in bed, stood next to the bed, trying to be strong, just as Amneris was trying to be strong. The girl didn't bother nodding or commenting. She thought only of two things and neither was she capable of at the moment. One was sleep, which her dragon knew she was unable to do, the second was water, something that would require Amneris to get up. The dragon could not get it for her.
The green just stood watching and waiting. Amneris had kept her covers over her eventhough she was sweating. There seemed to be no relief from the horrible cough either. When someone entered the barracks it took a couple moments for Amneris to recognize it was Jeyna. She managed a half smile for the bluerider but made no move or sound.
When she was picked up she wrapped her arms around the rider's neck. Amneris felt horrible for even putting her friend in danger. You said help...You did well Labeth, Jeyna will help me with the healers. Amneris had a lot of faith in Jeyna, partly because she held affection for the bluerider and partly because she had never let Neris down. When they entered the Infirmiry, Amneris was still coughing, but trying not to cough on Jeyna and her fever remained.
--------------------
Gidian had been sent to Telgar the day before, to help with casualities of this epidemic and to document how the Weyrfolk handled the illness. It would be compared to how the Holds and the Crafthalls had dealt with it. Also the death toll in each place would be examined. As a Master in his chosen craft, Gidian prided himself on his ability to treat illnesses. He liked dealing with cases that seemed impossible to solve. This epidemic was just his cup of klah.
The infirmiry was bustling with people, mostly he was giving out things to soothe coughs and bring down fevers and then sending people out of the infirmiry. He didn't want ill people congregating here either. When a woman's voice rose above the din, he looked over. She held a younger woman in her arms who appeared to be ill even from this far away. The woman carrying her seemed to have scared some of his assistants who looked at him to answer her.
"Of course. Lay her down on that bed over there." He pointed to the one closest to Jeyna. "I'll be right with you." He finished giving the man he had been talking to the proper dosage intstructions for the two teens with him and sent him on his way. The infirmiry was seeing mostly young people, which generally were healthier than other populations. This disease seemed to be targeting them in a way, he had never heard of before. At least it made things interesting.
"Now, let me look at her." He ran a hand through his thinning dark hair. Deft hands went to her head briefly, she had been sweating a while, that was apparent. Her cough wasn't as bad as some but her fever was much higher than most the people he had seen. This could be good for her or bad. If the disease didn't kill her, the fever well may. "Her fever is severely high. First thing you should do is get her laid down on a bed, under blankets and get it down. Wet some cloth and put it on her head and neck. You can even make her a tea, though it will only help her sweat which it is apparent that she is doing fine on her own. She is also dehydrated. Best thing to do next would be to make her drink water. After she has had the water, she can sleep. I'm going to give you some fellis to help her sleep. " With that he went to his stores and handed Jeyna the fellis.

While she waited for the Healer to come, she gently laid Amneris down on the bed and stroked her hair. Now that she wasn't focused on running, she spoke to her. "You're going to be ok, sweetie. You'll see, it'll be ok." She did not cover Amneris, despite having found her under the covers, because she had felt how badly she was sweating and did not want to make it worse.
She frowned deeply as she watched the Healer checking over Amneris. Jeyna was not a fidgeter, not a lip biter, or a nail biter. Instead she focused entirely on the Healer and the young woman, watching for anything she could take as a sign as to how the Healer thought she was.
"Under blankets? Shouldn't she be cooled down?" She was all confused. The healer's suggestion of wet clothes sounded like a cooling technique, but blankets seemed to make her warm. "Water, I can make her drink water." She accepted the fellis, "How much?"
The blue rider hadn't even blinked that the man was assuming she'd take care of the young woman. She had seen that people were getting sent out of the Healer's weyr, and she had heard the rule about congregating, and just assumed it applied here too. Ragoth, let Eznorth know that Amneris is with me. I'll take care of her.
"Anything else? Is there something to help the coughing? What if her fever doesn't break?"

Amneris didn't move much from where she was placed. After all she was tired and it mattered little what position she was in. She heard Jeyna's words and watched her, clearly noting the woman was worried. The healer that came over didn't bother to touch her much. Probably for the better. He seemed to know what he was doing, so she listened and watched. Jeyna was going to have to take care of her. Amneris felt horrible for putting her in such a position.
Gidian aknowledged the fact that the woman was prepared to take care of the younger one. "As much as she will drink. I'd wager a guess that it will be quite a bit. If her fever does not break, there isn't anything anyone here can do." In other words she would die. Gidian knew enough not to mention death in a room full of sick people.
"Best thing to do now would be to quarentine her and yourself as much as possible. Even if you do not contract the illness you can spread it to others." The healer warned but said little else. "Now, off you go. We have a lot of people to see today." He needed the bed for the next person. Gidian however was off and looking at a feverish young boy, who looked worse off than Amneris by a lot.
The blonde understood what had been said. She didn't want to die. In fact, she was afraid of death. "Thank you, Jeyna." She looked up at her sadly. "I don't want to die." Her voice was gone, which was due to all the coughing so her words were barely audible.

Jeyna blanched at the answer about the fellis, "as much as she will drink." She was not dumb or even slow (most of the time!). And when the healer followed that by "if the fever doesn't break, there isn't anything anyone here can do" there was no doubt in her mind of what the healer was carefully but clearly not saying.
She nodded and secured the fellis before leaning down to lift the young woman back into her arms. "Shhh, you're not going to die, sweetie. I'm not going to let you." She cradled her, making sure to rest her head against her shoulder. She'd make arrangements through Ragoth to have food delivered to them. For now though, she wanted to get her quickly settled into her weyr with some water to drink. If she could between, she'd get here there without any time, but instead she simply moved as quickly as she could.
Once she got there she sat down on the bed and, holding Amneris with one arm, poured cold water for her to drink. She then gently held the cup to Amneris' lips, "Drink, hun. You need to get some water into you. Then you can sleep. You'll be safe here. I'll take care of you, I promise." She would make sure she drank two full cups before laying her down and giving her a small dose of fellis.

Amneris nodded and held onto Jeyna as she was carried to the rider's weyr. It would not be the first nor probably the last she ended up in Jeyna's weyr because she needed help. Amneris didn't want to think about how much she owed Jeyna, in fact it would be better she didn't think much at all right now.
Jeyna still held her though she had sat them both down. At the offer of water, Amneris drank. She drank the entire glass before she knew it and Jeyna offered her the other, without much hesitation. Amneris drank most of the second glass but she couldn't stomach anymore. She was full up.
"I trust you." Was all she said to Jeyna's comments. She knew that the bluerider was saying them more to convince herself than Amneris that things would be fine. The fellis would be welcome now, for Amneris was tired. More so than she could remember being. Actually for the first time in a long time, she might sleep longer than a few hours.

"I know you do, sweetie." She hoped that trust wasn't misplaced. She wanted for this young woman to live. It would be a hard loss if this young who had become such a valued friend died, and Jeyna was not sure she would be able to face that loss.
She gently got her laid down and tucked in. She had not understood the direction to cover her, but she did. And once Neris seemed to be comfortable and asleep, she moved to follow more of the directions the healer gave her. She moved to wet down a couple of clothes. She rolled one and, gently lifting Amneris' head, put it around the back of her neck. Lowering her head back to the pillow, she put the other on her forehead.
Dogs were not dragons, but there was an intuitiveness they learned, perhaps a smell that humans couldn't understand. Pixie had been quiet, but once Amneris was settled, Jeyna picked up the little puppy and brought her over to the bed. The two sat on the bed, Jeyna cuddling with the puppy as a source of comfort as she sat watching over the sleeping woman.

Sleeping soundly, Amneris barely moved for candlemarks. Of course that was the effect fellis had on people. In that deep sleep her fever took a turn for the worse but only for a little while. The blankets on top of her made her sweat more and the cool rags on her head helped her cool down even more so.
When the fellis wore off, she spoke one or two words here and there. The main things she said were names. Mostly Labeth's name. Then her canines, now and then. Jeyna's name was said most often as far as humans went though that could just be because she was the last person Amneris saw when she was awake.
Almost halfway through the next day, Amneris woke because of her own coughing. Her fever was all but gone and she felt well rested. The blonde just lay there, eyes closed, listening to her own breathing. Labeth's mind voice entered her head immediately. You're awake!Amneris opened one eye. Uh huh. You alright? I feel hungry. Did you eat yet?No. Not hungry, you are. Sound better too!I think I can actually move, its a miracle what a little sleep can do...You've been asleep a long time. Amneris sat up in bed and looked around, feeling a bit bewildered.

Jeyna had paniced slightly when the fever had spiked. She had quickly re-wet the cloths and reapplied them. She even briefly considered waking her up to give her some tea to help her sweat the fever out more, but decided she needed the sleep more. Fortunately, the spike had not lasted long, and shortly after that, the fever seemed to start abating.
Ragoth had gone to hunt when he got hungry - the advantage of having an adult dragon - and reassured his that he could go a day or two without a bath if it was necessary, and that he knew it was today. Jeyna had been rather thankful for having such a wonderful dragon. She'd also made sure that he had checked to make sure that someone had fed the little Green. He'd reassured her that Eznorth's had taken care of it.
She blinked slightly at how often Amneris said her name, though she did smile when she heard it, as well as Tipp and Note and of course Labeth. She kissed her forehead and laid down, with Pixie between them sleeping contently cuddled.
When Neris stirred, Jeyna came awake quickly and fully. She pushed herself up on her arm as Amneris sat up, "Hey, sweetie. How are you feeling?" She then shifted to sitting up fully and touched her cheek, "Still warm but nothing like you were."

Amneris saw that Jeyna was awake just as the other spoke. Smiling she answered, "I feel much better." She made sure quickly that Pixie was in no danger of being crushed before she hugged Jeyna tightly. "Thank you Jeyna. You saved my life." That may seem an exaggeration to some but it was the truth. If Jeyna had not taken care of her, she could have died.
Labeth brought up that Amneris was still hungry. Something that made Amneris let go of Jeyna. "Do we have breakfast?" She asked curiously peeking around the room. Neris was hungry and thirsty come to think of it. Amneris coughed a little but even her coughing sounded better than the day before. She realized her clothes were disgusting from how much she had sweat and could even smell it on herself. A bath was probably in order too.
"I think I need a bath and some clean clothes. If Labeth were there she would say I smell horrible." That was the truth. Labeth was concerned about how they presented themselves. Amneris was too a little but she didn't really let it rule her life. It was sad but true that she had sweat enough to need clean clothes and a bath.

She very gladly returned the hug, with little Pixie contently sleeping, not noticing that the two women were no longer cuddling her. "I couldn't exactly let you die, now could I?" She smiled, though it was clear that it was more than just not letting her, but was actually that she cared about her.
"I tell you what, why don't you go take a bath, I'll set out some clothes for you - though I think mine will be a bit big on you, and have Ragoth have some food sent up. We're kind of 'stuck' here for a while, so we'll just go ahead and take advantage of the service." She smiled and poured her another cup of water, "I would imagine you're thirsty too. Drink."
She got out of the bed and moved to the bathing room to make sure the water was comfortable, "Anything in particular you want me to have Ragoth ask for?"

She shook her head. Amneris understood that Jeyna had been worried for her. Now though it seemed there would be no reason for her to be. In truth, she was relieved, more so than ever before. Few things truly scared her, dying young was one of those things. Jeyna seemed to be feeling well still. Hopefully she had not given her the illness.
"Sounds good to me." A nice bath did sound very good. Afterthat fresh clothes and breakfast it wasn't going to be a bad day. She moved to the edge of the bed, not wanting to leave the warmth of the covers. Eventually though she did get out of the bed. "Oh anything is fine. I'm not a fussy eater. Well just make sure he sends more than just greens." Vegetables were not her favorite but she did eat them. Her mother had grown vegetables and insisted they helped people remain balanced and healthy.
Now that she was standing and looking a little out of place, Amneris walked over to the bathing area. "I won't be too long." She said with a smile. You will feel even better tomorrow. When they let me out of quarentine, I'll see you first thing. I can fly to Ragoth's ledge as long as its not dark. As long as you know the way. After he comes back with food, we will see.

Jeyna did not hurry Amneris, but she did watch her as she moved to the bath. She wanted to get an idea of just how steady she was on her feat after all that, and was ready to catch her if she stumbled or even seemed to be more than normally weak after what she'd been through.
I heard. Be back shortly.
"Take your time, hun. You should relax as well as clean. You'll feel better." She smiled to her and when she was safely in the tub, Jeyna moved to get a clean shirt and pair of running pants, a nice blue, similar to harper blue, in color, as they'd be the most comfortable and could fit the best even being the wrong size.
It was not long before Ragoth was back with a sack of food in his claws. He dropped them gently and then settled on his ledge.
Jeyna went through the food, finding that enough had been sent to get them to dinner. They said to send me back when you want dinner, but this should get you through a meal and any snacks you might want. They also said to make sure you eat the citrus fruits, it will help Labeth's feel better and might keep you from getting sick.
There was some meat, but mostly white type foods, root vegetables, a bit of greens, and pain breads with only tiny bits of butter. Content, Jeyna set the food on the table then went to scratch her dragon, "Thanks hun. Next time see if we can get bubbly pies though." She winked, "And thanks for being patient.. I know you could easily feel neglected."
Mine was concerned. I am helping.
"Love you too, Ragoth." She smirked a bit and then coughed into her hand. Dismissing it as nothing as she felt fine otherwise.

Amneris liked baths. They were warm, calming and this one in particular was making her feel better. She dunked her head under water before scrubbing herself with the provided sweetsand. Her slim body was soon out of the bath and wrapped in a towel.
She walked out of the bathing room, towel keeping her from exposing any part of herself. "Are those for me?" She asked looking at the clothes Jeyna had taken out. She commended the blue rider on her choice of color. Amneris loved to wear that precise chade of blue. The Weyrling liked anything that was close to Harper blue in color. It was hard to get clothes that rich on color for most people, especially drudges.
Before a response came from Jeyna, Amneris saw the food. "OH! Ragoth was fast! I'll dress quickly." She was famished! As you should be. Labeth said, obvious relief in her mind voice. SHe had reason to be concerned, what with the death toll climbing on Pern and even within the Weyr.
