"I never thought much about how much I ate before." Not to mention what or when. She had always been able to get food without worry and when she lived at home there had only been one choice. At the Harper Hall she had eaten well but they insisted she didn't eat enough most of the time. Amneris couldn't help it if she was the tall, skinny type. She ate enough to live on and then some.
She nodded, no harm would come to Labeth if she could prevent it. "She likes the flying stuff and she remembers it more easily than the other things we have been doing. I don't think the Weyrlingmaster need worry too much about us." Labeth didn't disobey Amneris when she asked her not to do something. If Labeth asked Amneris not to do something it was likely that Amneris would do the same for her.
"Oh I don't know. Not sure we are going to make it into as good a wing as Triveni. It is one of the top three. I haven't had the chance to fly yet myself." Amneris wasn't trying to sell herself short she just didn't see herself as a rider completely yet. If she was good enough, Triveni, Pyralis and Zahra were the best wings in the Weyr. Who wouldn't want to be chosen for one of them.

"Flying comes pretty natural to the dragons once they get over their initial clumsiness. After all, that's their purpose. So I'm not surprised that Labeth is finding it easier to remember. Also, do be careful. Flying isn't so much the dangerous part of Weyrling lessons." Though the fact that the two of them were taking it careful did make her feel pretty relieved.
"Pay very close attention when she starts chewing firestone. And 'Neris, always always make sure that you have a firm picture in both your minds when you between." A sudden wave of concern had washed over Jeyna, and she realized just how much she would miss the young woman if there was an accident.
"And, 'Neris, I would not worry too much about whether or not you'll be good enough for Triveni. As long as you work hard and pay close attention to lessons, I believe you will have your choice of wings." She grinned to her, fully believing that. The young woman had shown promise. "I believe we're here. I'd imagine you're not too crowded in there since women technically aren't allowed to stand for fighting dragons." Jeyna remembered her own time, they weren't crowded, but there were several of them. Fortunately for her obeying the rules, she had not yet discovered that she enjoyed women at least as much as men.

Amneris knew that dragons were good at flying but she had not been expecting Labeth to be as good as she was at first. The dragon had given a similair explanation to the one Jeyna had given. Of course dragons would be naturals when it came to flying. Noting the concern in Jeyna's voice Neris responded. "Not to worry, we won't be Betweening for a while yet. I mean we aren't even allowed on them. Weyrlingmaster Lan'ae has been talking about firestone and the dangers over and over again. " Actually it had begun to be a bit redundant.
Some people may need a reminder about how doing things wrong could hurt them or their dragons but Amneris was not one of them. She cared too much about Labeth to let anything bad happen to her. "Well. I'm not the best person in my class but Labeth is showing a lot of promise flying. Especially when it comes to landings. I'm sure she'd like to be in a good wing like Triveni." Labeth was as vain as her rider when it came to hher accomplishments. Sure they weren't vain as far as beauty went but when it came to things that they did well; they were well past full of themselves.
"Not nearly as crowded as the boys, there are a few of us though. There's Neory, Nisha, Rona and me." Of course the little Gold took up more room than the other dragons. Luckily she only had to room with three greens who were quite a bit smaller. The large room was not messy, not nearly as messy as the boys anyway. There was a little clutter here and there but most of it was clothing that they had yet to put away properly. There were only a few glows lit, this time of day but one could see clearly. Amneris's bunk was the closest to the door.
Labeth was waiting to greet them when they entered. She was growing at a normal rate and seemed to be about average in size. She had grown to be about half the size of a full grown green dragon now. "She's eight months old right now, if you can believe it." The green had grown much faster than Amneris had thought she would. Time seemed to have flied. Scratching the olive colored green on her right eyeridge, Amneris walked past the dragon to get her guitar. After strapping the instrument to around her back, she began to walk back outside.

Jeyna nodded, feeling much relieved. If both dragon and rider were taking the instructions seriously, then there was little chance of an unfortunate accident. Unfortunately, there was always a chance of an accident - after all that's why the were called "accidents," but they were greatly minimized by taking the right precautions. "Sorry. Kind of silly for me to be worrying, isn't it?" She grinned.
"Well, I'm sure that both you and Labeth will land in a great wing, and maybe I'll see if I can encourage the wingleaders of Trieveni to 'claim' you." Jeyna thought her wing was clearly the best, and was pretty sure that both Amneris and Labeth would deserve to be in the best wing in the whole weyr.
Jeyna chuckled as they entered the weyr, and she did indeed see how much space the gold took up. She also smiled a bit at the mention of Nisha, the young woman and Jeyna were also friends, and they had even been bedbuddies on occasion. She believed that a dragon would do Nisha good. "I'm surprised they haven't separated Neory and Sheluth into a separate weyr. Though, to be honest, I don't think its a situation that comes up that often."
And then the Green that was clearly Labeth came to greet her Rider. "She's lovely, Amneris." Jeyna bowed slightly to the young green, "Its a pleasure to meet you, Labeth. I know that Ragot looks forward to meeting you as well."
Jeyna began to lead 'Neris to her own weyr, making sure to take the most direct route so that Labeth could easily follow and even remember it to find it later. "It won't be too much longer before you do get to go flying with her, Amneris. And that first time when you get to do more than just hover over the floor to see if she can hold you, when you actually get to fly with her... well, for me, I almost wondered how I could have lived without that." Her expression was a bit wistful as she remembered that.

Amneris smiled, "It is nice to have someone care that much actually. " She hadn't had anyone care about her this much since she left home. Her family had been very loving when she lived with them. Actually if she hadn't been sent away because of her sister, her parents would have been the ones worry about her now.
Hello Wingrider Jeyna. Thank you. You are just as Mine described you. Labeth spoke directly to the woman, since she was not shy about talking directly to people.I look forward to meeting Ragoth as well. She only spoke to others directly if they were right in front of her and it took effort where talking to hers was effortless. Amneris followed the bluerider making sure Labeth was following, first on foot and then in the air. She is nice, like your other friends... Neris just smiled.
Jeyna wanted her in her wing, which was a compliment. "Thank you Jeyna, we will work hard so hopefully we won't have any trouble getting into the Wing of our choice." Labeth hadn't thought about the future much... which wasn't as suprise because dragons had no need to focus on anything but the present.
"That helps make the wait easier, really." Her tone was sarcastic eventhough she appreciated Jeyna's advice. The green didn't see why they needed to wait. She was big enough to carry the skinny thing that was her rider. Honeslty she probably didn't weight much more than firestone.

Jeyna smiled warmly as Amneris said it was nice for someone to care about her that much. "Well, never fear, 'Neris. I do care. I'm glad that you and Labeth are taking everything seriously."
The bluerider blinked slightly as the little green spoke to her. That tended to be extremely rare. In fact, she was not sure that someone else's dragon had ever spoken to her, and as far as she knew, her own Ragoth was not in the habit of speaking to other people. "And you are as clever as Amneris has said." She looked towards Amneris, with a grin and continued to lead the two to her Weyr.
She laughed as they reached the weyr. "Sorry. I suppose that was a bit mean of me, wasn't it? Not how I intended it." Jeyna opened the door to the weyr and gestured Amneris in, following behind her. "Don't worry. It'll happen before you know it. And I am sure that you will write a beautiful song about it. I'll want to hear it when you do."
She moved over to Ragoth's ledge to watch for the little green who would soon be joining the full grown blue. You will be nice to her, I hope.
Of course I will. I look forward to it. Ah, here she comes now. She does fly well for her age.
The blue then stood to greet the Green once she reached his ledge.

The young woman grinned. Jeyna hadn't meant anything by that, she knew, but it still made her feel a bit warm inside. "I forgot to warn you. Sorry, she likes to speak to people directly. I know it isn't normal but I constantly forget to tell people she is like that." Amneris knew only that it wasn't normal because of the reactions she had gotten from Labeth's other talks.
The little green was quite pleased at Jeyna's comments. But of course she was smart. The dragon didn't respond to the rider, because she had taken to the air and was concentrating. Amneris laughed, "I know. I just thought I'd make you feel bad..." She grinned childishly and walked into Jeyna's weyr. She had been there a couple times now and knew what it looked like. "It will depend on if I think I can put such a wondrous thing into words." She might not be able to.
Labeth came to Ragoth's ledge without a problem. She landed with great precision not expected of a dragon that was clumsy on the ground. "Oh that was a good landing, even for her." She smiledat her little green who didn't take up much space next to Ragoth.
Greetings Ragoth. The green said with enthusiasm. She was excited. This was her first time on a full grown dragon's ledge. You have such a wonderful view... Labeth commented. She couldn't wait till she had her own space and up high like this.

Jeyna saw the green land and smiled, it was quite impressive given the age. "That really was a good landing, 'Neris. You've not exaggerated. And Ragoth is impressed as well."
Greetings, Labeth, you are welcome to share my view. And I wish you to know that I am very impressed. Your flight and landing are quite beautiful.
Soon after the Green landed, Jeyna's attention was drawn from both the dragons and the young woman who was in her weyr by the slight sound of whining. Jeyna laughed - which might sound like a cruel response, except that she had learned to recognize the different whines and this particular one was, "You're ignoring me!"
She glanced over at Amneris, "If you'll excuse me for just a moment." Since the little one was not yet weyrbroken, Jeyna had made a make shift pen for the puppy, but one with plenty of room for the little one and with some toys and bones to keep her entertained and a bowl of water. It was just helpful to have a set area so that when Pixie made a mess, it would be contained and on nothing she could not easily clean up.
She scooped up the little one, "Heylas, Pixie. Look whose here visiting us." The little puppy gave her person a face bath with her tongue and then yipped happily at Amneris before returning to snuggling with her person.

"Sometimes I think she lands better when she has an audience." Amneris was of course suggesting that her beloved green loved and craved attention. Not that she didn't at times as well but not nrealy as much as the dragon did. "I think she prefers landings to take offs. Why I'm not quite sure..." The Weyrling was thiking out loud and did not really expect a response to her musings.
Thank you. She responded to the part about sharing the view. Labeth was entirely too thrilled at having impressed an adult dragon. I have been practicing. She explained because there was no way she was going to deny how obviously wonderful she was, nor was their any need for her to comment on herself. With that said she preened a little about the landing and flight being beautiful which in her draconic mind meant she was beautiful as well, and walked close to the edge of the ledge, peering about at all the other ledges. She was getting an idea of where exactly they were.
Amneris was immediately distracted by the whining pup. Jeyna had been taking great care of her. "And to think, you tried to give her back to me. Look at her. She belongs with you. Its quite obvious, you are now owned by a canine..." In her opinion it was better than being owned by a human.

Jeyna laughed slightly at the description of being owned by a canine, "Yes, I am. I have to admit, I find it odd. I never thought I was the kind who would want a baby of any kind. Ragoth was more than enough for me in that way. Having said that, I think this will be the only kind of baby I'd ever want." Pixie might pull out a bit of the maternal in Jeyna, but it was still very limited.
It shows. Keep practicing, and you will definitely be a magnificient jewel in the sky. Jeyna might deny that she'd ever want to be a relationship with the weyrling, but Ragoth knew better, and decided that gaining the favor of the Green might not be a bad idea. Besides, it was true. Her color might not be the most stunning, but her flying ability at this age and landing was quite remarkable.
"Your dragon likes to have an audience?" The sarcasm was rich in Jeyna's voice as she set down on the bed and put the puppy down. The little one was allowed on the bed when Jeyna was there - so she could be taken off quickly if she showed signs of needing to pee or make other messes. "I never would have guessed that." She winked. "And landing makes sense. She does it while in flight, when she's the most graceful. If she's still the slightest bit clumsy on the ground, take off would be more difficult."
Jeyna glanced over to Ragoth. "We wound up having to practice take off in private, but he got it."

"Babies aren't all bad. I remember when Tavier was born, my little brother. I was the youngest until he came along when I was about six. He was actually kind of cute until he cried. Can't believe he is nine now. When I left home he was still a toddler. " She wasn't sad about not seeing them but she did miss home at times. She had lived there for the first eight turns of her life. Not something that was easily forgotten. "But you are right, puppies are more fun than babies and they grow up faster. I already raised two myself." She grinned. Tipp and Half Note were silly most of the time. Tipp lately seemed very tired.
You really think so? The little green liked the compliments even if she didnt' know what he hoped to gain from them. I pratice every day. Mine says we need to work extra hard so we can get into the wing of our choice and become part of a Search party. Labeth wanted to Search so she coudl see all the places hers wanted to go to. The way Amneris described it sounded great to the little green.
"It could be that she takes after me..." Amneris grinned. She too liked an audience and she wasn't about to deny it. Singing wouldn't be nearly as fun if there wasn't anyone around to hear it. " I suppose thats true. She isn't the most graceful dragon on the ground. The other greens seem to be doing better on the ground but I guess it makes her flying seem like more of an improvement than the others too."

I do think so. Keep practicing, it is obviously paying off. Ragoth's eyes whirred at her and then he looked back over his view. Mine Search Rides. I get to see new places and she gets the freedom she needs. It is good.
"I don't mind babies when they're being cute or sleeping or cooing. However, there's all that fussing and crying and pooping and throwing up stuff." Jeyna physically shuttered, "The waking up in the middle of the night, and pregnancy... yuck!" She ruffled the puppy's fur, "No, Pixie is just right for what little maternal instinct might have slipped in when I wasn't looking."
"So, Pixie, would you like to beg 'Neris to play for us? We may not be a big audience, but I think we'll be an appreciative one."

Amneris laughed. "Yeah the pregnancy thing isn't so bad. Its the giving birth part that seems painful...not to mention it kills people." She shuddered at the thought of dying so that some little baby would live but the baby could still die. "Pixie knew that before you did." Amneris had too but she wasn't going to tell Jeyna that and be accused of manipulating her into taking the puppy.
The green wasn't used to much attention from other dragons and found Ragoth's words flattering. She liked her clutchmates well enough but adult dragons were much more interesting. Where do you go on these Searches? I want to go many places.
In the few moments since she had last talked, Amneris had moved her guitar forward. "This one is for Pixie..." She smiled looking down at her guitar briefly to set her fingers straight. She begn to strum lightly. The soft sound of the guitar, soon joined by Amneris' voice.
" Come stop your crying It will be all right Just take my hand Hold it tight
I will protect you from all around you I will be here Don't you cry
For one so small, you seem so strong My arms will hold you, keep you safe and warm This bond between us can't be broken I will be here Don't you cry
'Cause you'll be in my heart Yes, you'll be in my heart From this day on Now and forever more You'll be in my heart No matter what they say You'll be here in my heart always Always "

We go many places. We usually go to places where people are, but we always appear outside of where everyone is so we don't accidentally hurt anyone. Not because he was clusmy with appearing from between, but because the mental picture was remembered, not and people could be where they were not before. Mainly we go to Telgar and Crom, though sometimes Jeyna goes otherplaces. Some people are nice. Some are not.
Jeyna scritched the little one as she barked at a bump in the bedspread, on her imperfectly made bed. She chuckled slightly at the obviously accurate claim that Pixie had somehow known that Jeyna had this tiny little kernel in her. "I suppose she did." She looked suspiciously at 'Neris, but before she could accuse her of knowing as well, she was setting her fingers on the guitar.
When she started strumming, Pixie sat still and watched her attentively, her little tail wagging. When the song ended, the little pup yipped softly and Jeyna, who had been smiling, listening attentively and petting the puppy, smiled even bigger. "'Neris, that was absolutely beautiful."
Pixie moved over and nuzzled Amneris gently. "I think Pixie agrees." Of course the puppy did not understand the words, but it sounded pretty and both her person and her mommy's person seemed happy, based on their voices.

"Thank you." She petted the puppy on the head. "And you as well." Amneris needed to visit Tipp and Note tomorrow. Tipp easily adjusted to life, working for the Weyr but Note seemed to have issues with the beastcrafters and Neris was forever having to find ways to keep them from getting rid of her. She only had one master and wasn't prepared to listen to anyone else's commands.
Labeth was a little excited about the idea that they could go anywhere. There will be a lot of people I hope. She liked people, a little too much at times but most people had been nice to her. Even if she seemed to catch them offgaurd at times. Labeth also liked other dragons but few of them took the time to speak with her. Beynath had bespoken all of the new Weyrlings. She immediately liked the old Queen. She liked Ragoth too. Not that she was at all picky.
Mine?Yes?Do you think we will get to travel like Ragoth and Jeyna? That depends. We have to practice and we have to see if you can pick up on who would make a good candidate... The green didn't press the matter further, she constantly asked about it because it was also on Amneris' mind.
She shifted her guitar back. "It seems like she has settled right in. How does Ragoth feel about having a pup around?"
