Jeyna had missed running that morning because there was one thing that she believed very strongly, and that the importance of being a considerate lover. Even though she viewed Green flights as flings, if the rider of the Green dragon was interested, then she made sure to appreciate the Rider without the dragons involved.
And the male Rider of the Green Ragoth had flown was a regular "special-friend" of Jeyna's, so they had spent the morning together. Not surprisingly, when the Blue Rider came to the Hall for dinner, she was in a much better mood than she had been previously. A large part of that had to do with the fact that Ragoth was no longer feeling depressed or rejected.
Jeyna's carefully flattering but not girly clothing showed off her curves and form nicely. Her hair had that perfectly rumpled, but not look, and most importantly, she was smiling.

When Jeyna didn't show up to run that morning, Amneris had found other things to do. It didn't bother her that much, after all Amneris didn't particularly like working out. Instead she had played guitar and accrued quite the small audience. The song was fast, up beat and she thought fairly catchy. Labeth thought so as well. Maybe she should do more upbeat songs when Neory had her perform.
Amneris was lost in her thoughts and sat down at a Weyrling Table with the least number of people at it. She was in a dreamy sate and not really paying attention to her food. In fact she had not eaten much yet. I could play some of my own songs...I like them. Especially the ones about me!
How that dragon had ended up so conceited was beyond her. Still it made her laugh. Amneris never really thought that laughing outloud at nothing might be seen as a bit odd. It wasn't really that uncommon here at the Weyr. She eyes her roll but wasn't really in the mood for it. Instead she bit into a red fruit. One bite in and she set it back down on her plate. She didn't really want that either. Nice, juicy...red meat. That's your favorite, not mine. Fine don't believe me. That's what you want though.
Dragon, trying to butt in where she didn't need to. Amneris had been perfectly capable of feeding ehrself before Labeth came along. She could do so again. Of course, Amneris went for some red meat then and decided it was indeed what she wanted. She ate slowly, as if she had all the time in the world to eat.

Jeyna grinned seeing Amneris and headed over to her. She had gone jogging that evening after their last dinner meeting, because well, she had needed to clear her head, though she'd waited for Ragoth to calm down enough to get some sleep.
"'Neris!" She took the seat beside her, grabbing a roll. She would need to eat more, but she wanted to say hi first. "Look, I owe you for the other night. I was very much not myself, and I want to make it up to you. And then I stood you up for running this morning, so I definitely need to make things up to you."
Mine... you are flirting.
Not really. We were not ourselves the other night and very much owe her.
"Listen, I want to make it up to you. You had mentioned that your Labeth wanted to meet Ragoth. So why don't you and she come up tonight if you don't have anything else to do tonight? Ragoth would love to meet your lovely green."
While Jeyna might have been flirting some, she was not trying to do anything untoward. Honestly, she had decided, that for now (and not just because Amneris was a weyrling) whatever attraction she felt would have to be ignored. She would not risk the friendship she had with the younger woman.

Amneris looked up to see Jeyna back to herself. After swallowing the piece of meat she had been chewing she smiled. "Hi Jeyna. Don't worry about it. I knew you weren't yourself. This morning ended up a lot of fun anyway. I had an audience." She was pleased with herself, more like her dragon than she knew sometimes.
The Weyrlign wasn't really expecting that Jeyna would want to spend time with her tonight. Sshe knew the reasons that Jeyna was feeling herself now and they involved another person and another green dragon. The actual person was irrelevant, she just couldn't think of Jeyna with another person at all. Made her feel slightly possessive and a little waspish. At least Jeyna was herself at last.
"Labeth and I would love to. Ragoth could probably tell her all about Search riding. We have taken an interest since Weyrlingmaster Lan'ae went over it during lessons." I can fly and meet you there. When we are done. For now I need to eat and so does Jeyna.Of course, don't be all night. Labeth grew tired long before her rider did, so Neris understood the green wanted to be in bed on time.

"Wonderful, it'll be good." Then she heard the bit about Search Riding. "OH! That'll be great. I think you'd be a good Search Rider. Did Lan'ae talk to you about shadowing someone when they go Searching? Once your Labeth is able to fly with you, and between, you'll be welcome to shadow us."
Jeyna smiled warmly to the young woman, "And I'm sure your audience must have enjoyed your playing. I know I do." She grabbed a plate, "Do you mind if I eat with you? If you think it'll weird out the other weyrlings, I can go." She however did load up some food on the plate, having a much better appetite now that all was right with the world again. And there was enough food that it shouldn't be a problem.

"Really?" Amneris had been told so by other people but to hear Jeyna say so, it was more meaningful. "Lan'ae said he didn't know as much about it as he would like and then there were some classroom disruptions. That new Bronzer, D'leon was giving a couple fo the other girls some trouble and he kept on talking while I was trying to listen about the Searchriding. Then a couple of the Weyrlings were having trouble talking to their dragons without speaking outloud so they ahd to practice. All in all we only learned some generic info. I did ask some questions though. Tomorrow I can see about the shadowing."
Amneris would love to shadow Jeyna. It would be fun and she'd be spending more time with a good friend. Labeth might like having a mentor too. Not that dragons had as much trouble as people taking on roles like that.
"Labeth says she'd prefer I sing songs about her. Since those are her favorites." She took a sip of her water and looked over at the few Weyrlings at the table. No one would even care if Jeyna was there. "Oh, please join me... they don't notice much anyway. Most of them are worn out and could care less whats going on around them."

Jeyna chuckled warmly as she began to tuck into the food with quite an appetite. "I'm sure she does. And don't worry, they don't really become any less selfish as they grow. But why wouldn't she love a song you wrote about her? Besides, it gives her something which makes her more special than any other dragon. No one else has their Riders writing and singing songs about them."
"Well if he didn't know much about Search Riding, then you definitely should learn from someone who knows a thing or two about it. I'd be more than glad to tell you what I know, and I'm sure Ragoth will want to do the same for Labeth. And we'd be glad to have you come with us." She smiled, "If Lan'ae needs someone to talk to your class about Search Riding, I'd be glad to too."
"You know, I'll definitely want to get to hear you sing more. You have a beautiful voice and really bring the songs to life." She ate some more.
"I'd ask how things are going, but I'm guessing they worked you too hard for the summary of the day to be much more than, 'ugh'." She chuckled, "I can't say I miss my weyrling days."

"Thats exactly what she says." Amneris was actually happy her dragon liked music but telling other people about it was not something she wanted Labeth doing. Bragging would only get them in trouble. It wasn't so much that Amneris didn't like her musical talent spoken of it was more that she didn't want nor could she take any sort of punishemnet for doing something wrong. She didn't think the Weyrlingmaster would approve her spending so much time singing songs when she should be working on lessons. That didn't include building her strength which she was neglecting entirely.
Amneris finished her roast at long last and tore into a tuber. She wanted filling food tonight. "That would be great. Really. Weyrlingmaster Lan'ae would probably love it if you volunteered. I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in Searching." Labeth probably wasn't the only dragon who was fairly empathetic either.
"I can sing for you and Ragoth after dinner if you like?" That would be nice. Jeyna liked her music, called her beautiful and then she was in such a contagiously happy mood, Amneris couldn't even be tired around her. "It wasn't so bad for me today. We did some flexibility stuffin our workouts as the theme for the day. The bigger guys had the most trouble with that. I am actually fairly flexible so it wasn't hard to do the workout." She doubted it could be called a workout if it was easy.

"I would like that. And I think Ragoth would as well." She felt an affirmative in her mind and chuckled, "Yes, he says he would indeed like that." Jeyna grinned at the young woman, noticing her digging into the food. Of course she was as well, but it still made her grin.
"They must be working you fairly hard, I notice you've had quite an appetite lately." That was not meant as an insult or a complaint. She preferred healthy women to emaciated ones - men too, for that matter.
When the bit about flexibility came up, Jeyna was taking a drink of redberry juice. It was everything she could do not to spit it out.
Mine?
I'm fine. Just... well, an enjoyable mental image actually, but wholly inappropriate.
How is it different from what you do with your other special friends?
Ragoth, we'll talk about this later.
"I'm sure you're very flexible. Glad you had an easy day." She winked to her. "Must have been nice to see the strong, bigger guys struggling for a change, huh?"

"I'll have to run back to the barracks to grab my guitar." This was said as a statement not as if it would deterr her from playing. "I'm just not nearly as strong as everyone else so I think I'm even more exhausted. Though to be honest I think my eating has more to do with growing than the amount of physical work I'm doing. I suppose it could be a little of both." She was going to have to buy new clothes soon enough she just hoped she would stop growing when it came time to get riding leathers.
She took a sip of her water before saying anything else. Her eyes all the while on Jeyna. She was admiring the blue rider for being so jovial and strong, wishing she was more like that sometimes. The wink and the words before it were bordering on flirtation, which Amneris had not partaken in much but had seen many times. Trying to disregard what that could mean she went on to say, "It was but then I started to feel bad for them." She had too. If she were having trouble with that she'd feel silly because it looks so easy.
Are you feeling alright? Yes, just a little confused right now... I will be fine in a little while. Good because I'd like to see you sing songs about me to an adult dragon and his rider. In other words she wanted to show off.

"You want me to come with? Its not like the weyrling barracks are that far from Triveni that I'm not willing to make a little detour for some wonderful music."
Mine... I think you need to tone it down.
Why?
Her dragon is still a weyrling and you keep telling yourself that you do not want to be with her.
I ... She's a friend. I don't want to ruin that.
Jeyna rolled her eyes and looked at the younger woman, "Ragoth can be quite nagging at times. Silly dragons, think they know better than their Riders." She grinned warmly to her, "Why don't we go get your guitar."

There wasn't anything left on her plate so now would be the best time to go to the Barracks. Labeth had already been flying for a couple sevendays so she didn't worry about the green making it to Ragoth's ledge. Of course, Amneris wouldn't get to rider the green for a few more months.
"Sometimes they do." Amneris had to say, Labeth was correct more often than she was wrong. The truth was just a pain to deal with and people often acted adversely to very logical points. Dragons often didn't take into account human emotions which are generally vital in making a solid decision. Amneris had to agree with dragons, their way was much less complex and it was easier to see solutions. There was no way she was going to say all that outloud right now though. Too many repercussions to such ideas, especially when she didn't know what Jeyna had been discussing with Ragoth.
"I'd enjoy the company. Besides I'd like to walk Labeth as close as I can to Triveni, so she can find herway to Ragoth's ledge easier. She's still learning to navigate the ledges. She's more agile than I would have thought, judging by her on foot clumsiness. I have to say she isn't the clumsiest green. I just expected her to be the same in the air her first couple times." Really Labeth had suprised her.

Jeyna rose with easy grace, but conscious of the conversations with Ragoth, did not extend her hand to Amneris this time. If she was sending out the signals tha her Blue told her that she was, then she definitely wanted to back off. The fact of the matter was that she meant it when she told Ragoth that she did not want to do anything to damage the burgeoning friendship that she had with the younger woman, a friendship that was already closer than any of the relationships she had - though she had very good friendships, it was just that they often devolved into pure physical or casual friendships.
"Maybe. Sometimes, however, they are interfering busybodies." She grinned as she said it. Jeyna harbored no hard feelings towards Ragoth - even if he did not understand everything that was going on.
Jeyna laughed at the description of Labeth even as they headed towards the Weyrling barracks. "Even if she was the clumsiest Green, she'd still probably be more agile and graceful than the browns or bronzes. And while I have the highest level of respect for our dear Queen Riders, I'd imagine the 'little queen' is the clumsiest of the bunch. Greens and Blues are built for grace and agility the way their larger brothers and sisters can never be. Some of the 'higher colors' like to pretend that their dragons are better, but the fact of the matter is that all are needed. Strength and endurance are important, but so is agility and speed, and that, dear 'Neris, is the strength of our beauties."
Fortunately, Triveni was a good wing that understood that, and while the latest pattern had been a bear to learn, it definitely played up the strengths of its smaller dragons.

Following the bluerider's actions, the younger woman stood though not with the ease that Jeyna had. She was sore and a little stiffer than she would have liked to admit. It wasn't easy being one of the weaker people in Weyrling training. She just hoped that eventually she was at the same level as the other girls. Although, now that she thought about it, Nisha didn't do the really strenuous stuff. Rumor had it that she was pregnant. Not that that was a bad thing and the dragon must have impressed her pregnant for her to be this far along.
Giggling a little, she said, "Mine had the audacity to tell me what to eat today. Like I don't know what I want." Amneris was the last person who would admit not knowing what she wanted. She always knew what she wanted and had no trouble making decisions because of it.
Jeyna was right about the larger dragons. "Labeth is definately agile. Don't know about the speed yet because well, she's still learning the basics. Weyrlingmaster doesn't want any of us to have any accidents." Amneris was always a chatty person and it wasn't going to end anytime soon.

Jeyna had to laugh at that. "I don't think Ragoth ever had to tell me what to eat, but I've never been the kind of woman to eat light. Maybe its from being a runner or maybe I just burn it pretty quickly, but I've never really been overly concerned about what I eat." And she didn't. Some of the men always teased her that she hate like a man, and she knew that, to some degree that was fairly true.
Jeyna appreciated that 'Neris tended to be chatty. It made her easy to talk to, and the blue rider enjoyed listening to the younger woman. "And you need too listen to him on that. Accidents have been known to happen, and I'm glad that the Weyrling Master is someone who takes that pretty seriously. Of course, I suppose if he didn't, then they would not have made him the Weyrling Master." For example, while Jeyna would never endanger Weyrlings, she did not have the ability to discipline others, so she'd never be considered for that position. And that was fine with her.
"I know its still pretty early for you to be thinking too much about this, but have you thought about which wing you think you'd like to be recruited into? I'm obviously biased, but the truth is that all the wings are fairly good."
